At work downtime starting, installing Windows 7 7100 RC right now so I can start testing getting both cards working in crossfire in Win 7.

I didnt bring any games to install but some of them may just run from my Vista partition, and the most important test Vantage I know does run from another partition.

Give me some time for the new guide, I'll need some time on my hands to go through and write it so its easy to understand and take screen shots and mark them up and all that jazz.

For now though 99.9999% can use the old guide and just flash the slave to a master, the only reason to flash the master is for higher overclock limits and so far from what I can tell a higher overclock is doing next to nothing in most cases.

Oh I installed ICD on everything today except the northbridge and the part of the gpu that had the double thermal pads. I didnt see any of it ooze out when I put the heatsink on so I hope my ram chips are covered all the way, the ICD7 is thick enough to replace the thermal pads but its hard to squeeze out and you need a lot of it. Since I had to do 2 video cards and did the cpu 2x I think maybe I didnt put enough... but temps on the cards seem fine (though no temp monitor for the ram....)

Edit: Doh! The disk I burned today was Win 7 32bit....

Now Win 7 tonight, I'll have to find the right image and do it tomorrow night.

Yeah I will but cant my drivers are for 64bit lol, I need 64bit Win 7 so have to wait another day.

Like I said I am actually going to try my theory first instead of your guide, just install the CCC over my package drivers. I cant see why it would give a different result than your guide. If it works we will have an easier/faster method to get it working.

If my way doesnt work then I will follow your guide step by step and see if I can figure out why it works. After that I will try to see if I can get 9.5 working. Not because 9.5 is better than 9.4 but just because I want to know how for future drivers.

I freaked out in Win 7 when I went to go open my drivers on my Vista desktop via "my computer" my vista drive was not there and then I saw "old windows" in the C: so I though I installed Win 7 over Vista.... Turns out for some reason I had to assign my Vista partition a letter in the drive manager, I also still have a old Win 7 entry in my boot loader I need to get rid of some how.

EasyBCD is the best way I know of.

I'm more interested in vista64 for awhile. Perhaps Win7 later on once game performance is on par or better than vista64 's, and once I'm sure all my hardware has win7 drivers (incl peripherals). From reports on desktops, win7 builds take a performance hit on games vs vista currently.

I'm trying to work out home finances to get the W90vp sooner than later.. will see how it goes. I have some work being done on my house that is going to cost what I consider a lot of cash currently or I wouldn't hesitate and would have ordered one already. Kicking self for missing that refurb at egg as I prob would have jumped at $1500 even if it would have needed the RMA and didn't mesh with my spending schedule. There are days I'm all over the deals and threads checking all day.. that day I happened to be doing landscaping/yardwork for 5 hrs and missed out.

The other reason I have been waiting is the RMA issues and the driver/performance issues with the crossfired cards. I was hoping that when the smoke clears on all that to my satisfaction, I would be in a comfortable buying position time/$ wise.

Asus told me to call ATI/AMD about the driver support for the 4870x2's... :) So I did.

Ati told me that ALL W90vp owners should be calling Asus and complain for them to be contacting ATI to update the mobility drivers for the W90.
This is a process handled "internally" as he put it and it has to be initiated by Asus.

He also told me the fact that sites like this (NBR) are proponents of modding/flashing/tweeking to make something work are one of the reasons ASUS doesn't put more effort into getting better drivers for their average-joe customers..
    * Asus is basically waiting for the complaint on a case by case basis, and if you are tech savvy enough to come here looking for answers, its one less problem they have to handle.

I can see his point - what a double edged sword --
Is this information I was given sound correct to all of you? I'm amazed it's so complicated.

So , I ask all W90 owners to call Asus and tell them you want new drivers now! Power to the people. :)

I somehow doubt they will put a voltage cooker bios update out right away considering notebook chassis' low volume to high heat issues (even with the decent cooling on this model), their strong warranty having to back up any resulting issues, and the number of RMA issues they've had already.

Although I would welcome a voltage mode bios update that would open up more options like desktop motherboards, I just have doubts that it would be in their interest at this time. The only reason I could see them doing so currently would be to get higher benchmarks in reviews to drum up sales - but it doesn't seem like sales are a problem as they can't keep up with the orders. I feel that they should to get the "hot rod car" running stable and proper before they "add more nitro to the nitro button". Thats just my opinion, especially since I'm waiting for the dual cards issues and other RMA issues to clear up a bit more before I personally order one. :p

Very true but there always has to be someone chomping at the bit to get the ball rolling :) And considering this is basically a desktop motherboard with a socket p they better give me the voltage option at some point. Sooner then later says my impatient side :D

What's odd is that out of the box, mine ran WoW fine with the stock drivers, which is what has be wondering about RMPG's issues with her notebook. I did do a clean install of Vista because a lot of the eye candy options (like I don't need a graphic icon every time I touch a control) were useless. I'm definitely a meat and potatoes notebook user. Flashy design/colors/lighting, etc.... don't do it for me and can actually turn me off from a potential purchase sometimes (See: Toshiba Qosmio line).

With just a clean install and stock drivers, my Vantage GPU score was already near 10k. With 9.4's and some flashing, it hit 10.3k+ (all stock settings with a QX9300).

What are your framerates in Dalaran? They should be 30+ even with heavy congestion. If you could manage to do a partial (or full) clear of even let's say Plague wing, that would give me an idea if you are in the ballpark.

Ramping down to WSXGA+ and details to medium and still having low frame rates, something is amiss.

Sent in my W90 for RMA today for the 2D graphics issues. Relegated back to my G2S-A1 for a while. Interestingly I find that I actually prefer the G2S-A1 keyboard to the W90.

    Hope it comes back soon.

My replacement goes out for RMA tomorrow. I shoulda known it was too good to be true... Production date was 4/09 and got a couple white screens and random calibration cycles (alternating from red to blue to white to gray to vertical lines to squares then back to red.) Only took about 2 weeks to surface.

Guess i wont be getting a replacement til august with the way the current backorder is going.

On Win 7 build 7201 now, downloading & installing drivers.

Did not have to turn off the 2nd card to install so that means they fixed the dual monitor/gpu issue.

I RMA'd my laptop and they fixied it and returned it to me. It is working good and I would say that anyone RMA'ing this thing should request that specific unit be fixed and returned to them. Asus tech guys will make sure it is working correctly as opposed to giving you a new machine which may or may nto have graphical issues. Ofcourse someone out there probably got their laptop back that still had errors but the chances are slim. Just a thought.

Yeah oddly enough for me, they emailed me and said it was on its way back.... I called really suprised cause it was only 5/23 when this happened, I asked them about the issue they were waiting until 6/2 to fix and all the people they had offered their old systems back to while they waited to get the new ones in and they said mine was fine and wouldnt need replacing, and it is :)

How so? The X2 I got a couple days ago from Newegg is running perfectly. Been running stable all day at 2.8ghz, 600/900ghz.

I've decided I'm going to hold off until Asus posts an official Catalyst update instead of tweaking myself. The 8.5 drivers are working great for the games I play (FO3, FC2, TF2, LFD...)

Also worth mentioning the NewEgg stock appears to be new. My s/n is 95... (2009, May...). They did jack the price up $50 in the past day however...

I didn't say I knew the newegg stock all need RMA I said I am wondering if they are all from earlier production that needed RMA. I was asking a question. If anyone knows please let me know.

Glad yours is working good though harmattan... please keep us posted on whether you get any lines in your screen or other screen artifacting, restarts/lockups, dual gpu problems or other issues that the other people RMA'd for.

edit--- just reread your post about the production date.. thats a good sign.

I played a bit of TF2 last night on mine, for the user that said he had TF2 issues what were they?

My biggest problem is I am not use to the screen & mouse for gaming. I usually play at home on my MX518 mouse & 37" screen.

    Hello at all,

look at this german guy, he swap the stock 9000 quad to the 9300 quad with overclocking. No modded ATi drivers he has used the stock ATI drivers. 3040 MHZ ist the limit of the 9300 because the core of the mainborad ist to low.

    Hi All

Just wanted to see if anyone had any info on the ETA for the A1. I have been trying to find one, but to no avail! I am quite surprised that it isn't available yet, and it seems like most sites keep pushing their dates back....

    Any thoughts?

My issues were reltated to certian textures looking like they had a sync error. You'd get scrolling lines generally outdoors on dirt looking ground texture. 2fort would do it, map called ballon race was pretty much unplayable due to not being able to see where the wall ends. Upside was i could see people through walls and coming around corners but it just bugs my eyes out hardcore after a while.

Weird thing is that sometimes it would go away on its own, if i played long enough eventually it would just stop and everything would go back to normal. I thought it was gone with the new bios update and it was on 2fort but i jumped around to another few maps and bang it was back, mind you it wasnt as bad as before (from what i saw the short time i played) but it was still there in sections.

Why would they label the 4850 X2, but not the 4870 X2? In 9.4 we are = ati2mtag_M9x, PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_945A., but they change it to M9x8. Hmm.......i wonder it 945A is Master and 945B is slave?

why are they being so shady about it? and if they aren't putting it in their m17x, then ?

$486 seems really cheap for 2x 4850's, too... but i suppose that is just the upgrade cost..

Hmm desync that sounds kinda like the issue lots of us had, but I only saw it in game menus, though never played TF2, best test to see if you have the problem is 3dmark09 Vantage, the first test "Jane" always caused sync errors while loading.
