I have my laptop with me running Vista X64...I tried these 9.5 drivers that were posted here, and they are behaving the same as the 9.5 Windows 7 drivers are with our W90s....shows crossfire, lets you enable or disable it in the CCC...either way benchmarks come up with single card results (3dmark06 = about 10,000)
Please note, I am running in the Master/Master config.

Kenpachi is like the most awesome Bleach guy but he is not the looker, esp that hair style lol.

No the installer works with these...verified that they loaded and were running...just strange with crossfire acting like single card performance-wise

this thing is frigging massive, man... i like the keyboard, but the touchpad seems "off." i had to adjust its sensitivety... it is better, but my fingers don't slide across it that well for some reason. oh well, i suppose i can get used to that.

Wondering, since was tested with a master/master setup, they are intended for a master/slave setup maby ? Dont have my laptop here at work with me today, will flash back to master/slave and try these new ones tonight I guess, unless anyone wants to try a master/slave before I do :)

Well i havent tested it with Master/Slave with these drivers under x64 Vista ya...but i DID with the Windows 7 ones...and they didnt work (second card would have exclamation point over it in device manager)...My hunch is the same thing will happen under vista x64

Ive run vantage (mind you i dont know if theres different years of vantage) but i dont experiance any issues in the jane test or while its loading. Only question i had was about the cpu test with the planes, i get some of the planes incorrectly assembled... is that normal or a form of my cpu artifacting?

I had the exact same reaction to the size, keyboard and touchpad. The first thing I did as well was check if Facebook was working... works just fine, just wish I could OC it :p

Your s/n indicates the production date with the first number indicating the year (it should be "9") and the second number the month e.g. mine is 95... meaning May, 2009.

No way I know of to turn off the volume button. Really annoying... I had the General in FO3 Operation Anchorage down to his last once of health and I hit the button last night obstructing my view... he deaded me.

yeah, mine says 95.. thanks for the info. man, that volume thing is SO frigging annoying... i keep hitting it.. the keyboard takes some getting used to, too; it seems "off-centered," but that is just in comparison to my old lappy, so i'm sure i will get used to it...

hmm, if ken installled latest drivers, and setfsb... what do i need to do? i can't think of anything...

amd yeah, this thing is a frigging beast... haha. it takes up half my desk... wowwwsaa.

the mouse and backpack that were inlcuded were very nice... i have an mx revolution, and i prefer the asus mouse.. it could lose the LED lights, though.

Not sure if this was mentioned yet, but the Asus W90 is now the fastest notebook in the world, according to the Guiness book of World Records. This is different from the run Kinc from Xtremesystems.org did but it's only a 3dmark06 run. I'm sure it would destroy vantage and other benchmarks as well even though they didn't test them. It's in Asus' Press Release:

    http://www.asus.com/News.aspx?N_ID=fCzsgUkVu6pYzE8C

Edit: So, if these numbers can be achieved, with a QX9300, there must be something they did to give the QX9300 more juice. We already know the X38 chipset allows for high levels of FSB overclocking and the limiting factor seems to be the voltage on the CPU.

On a second look it says a computer thing in Norway or whatnot. Score very close to Kincs wouldn't surprise me if it was him again.

I wish I had someone to install the 9.4's in mine, but the replacement came with 9.2 --

I am going to pick up a G71Gx whenever they come out and give the W90 to my daughter. :)

Such a shame installing new drivers in the w90 requires advanced technical knowledge to do so properly.

P.s and yes, the w90 is whisper quiet.. I can hardly tell its running!

I bet if it were a pair of nVidia cards you'd be saying something different ;)

Edit: But I would expect so seeing that SLi scales better than Crossfire in that benchmark anyways

Yeah, it is insanely quiet with great temps.

Sorry to hear about head-to-wall issues with the W90Vp, but I'm sure your daughter is going to be happy.

My 17yr old daughter encodes/decodes videos and will play Sims3 (along with all the Twitter, Myspace, etc... gunk).

after my $1600 hp dv9339us (dv9000) and its nvidia go7600 fried 6 mo. past the 1 yr warranty, I shrunk from dropping big cash on a DTR for awhile.

I'm a little jealous of the people using their W90's... I'm writing this from my acer aspire netbook. The netbook has its place and still would if I had a DTR , but presently I'd love to have W90 in front of me lolz :p

I'd also like to know if issues/glitches, and screen anomalys are still popping up for people with the 'new batch'... and if people are getting the power of both gpu's on their games and benchmarks. It would also increase my confidence if I heard that WoW , TF2, fear2, fallout3 , COD4, etc were all kicking with the crossfired cards both working. I've been waiting for several "All Clear" 's before I would consider buying one.

btw if/when I do order it would probably be from newegg so I wouldn't have to wait, unless there was definitely stock at another good reseller.

My unit was an April 09 build and it has been running flawlessly with a QX9300 OEM under the hood. Did I go over it with a fine tooth comb inside? Ayup. That and a clean install of Vista (which I would do anyhow), and it has been running like a champ.

okie thats one all clear I guess... hope your machine stays that way. :) You are getting full performance from crossfire/both gpus I assume.

I'd like to hear more from people with the newer builds. I hope none of them get the lines in the screen, synch issues, or one of the cards not adding to the crossfire performance, etc. Also looking forward to some gaming and bench feedback.

RMPG505 if I owned a W90vp already and had read the guide(s),took notes on all the updated info and procedures and got it all working on my own unit, I'd offer to help walk you through it... but that might be a little while yet for me.

So far, my -X2 from the Egg is working fine. I had some video tearing issues in TF2 with the original drivers but all seems well with the 9.4, master/master combo.

Huge screen, great cooling solution, not bad keyboard, unnecessary soft touch controls, lots of o/c overhead.

One thing that keeps cropping up...if I play with the CCC running it will, inevitably, reboot the computer. As long as I don't start the CCC or if I close it after I'm done, I don't get any reboot issues.

As far as minor irritations, I'm still not all that pleased with the screen. I dig the size but not the rather narrow viewing angle...especially vertical axis. It seems that if the screen isn't angles just so, it washes out.

I'm giving it time to see if anything else crops up. Overall, I think it's the best value out there...no regrets.

The screen thing isn't uncommon on laptops.. the angles on most laptops are really bad, bad even for TN screen. Most laptops aren't 18.4" though so its not as noticeable. I noticed it on my 17" hp (glossy) and had to always tilt the screen perfect for a direct eye line... so when I'd switch from sitting upright to slouching, etc, I'd have to grab the panel and adjust the angle. Otherwise it had a solarize effect almost. Its not what I'd prefer but I can live with it long as it looks good head on.

I appreciate your honest impressions thanks.

Yup, full performance. Vantage GPU = ~10.3k. WoW performance 30-50% > than my old OCZ Whitebook (which was no slouch on its own).

    Vantage GPU on 3870x2 = ~6300
    Vantage GPU on 4870x2 = ~10300

what are you talking about? point me to one run..just one. and since i have the record for that at the moment. 11,064 gpu. guess it means im the fastest in the world.. :) when it comes to vantage mark...that is.

we already knew it did well at 3dmark06 when the 3870's came out so it was no real surprise that the 4870's wouldn't do well either. but no desktop ati cards are doing well at it so why would the mobile version be different?

Hey guys, sorry to ask this, but nearly 800 pages is a little daunting.

Have there been any significant updates to the video card drivers/bios? I followed Vicious's guide about two months ago (Custom master/master 9.4's), and can't tell if his links have been updated or not. I read about 9.5's and crossfire, but I can't seem to find it all in one place. I'm running Vista x64 if it matters.

I'm still getting semi-low performace in WoW (I have to turn down some settings, and I shouldn't have to) as well as graphical glitches in TF2.

    Thanks in advance.

I need someone to do me a favor. My W90 sudennly wont power on at all, I mean no charge or power light and no boot. Can someone take their battery out and see if they can still boot? I just want to make sure I can take the battery out of the issue to see whats really wrong. My power brick light is on so I dont think its that. Asus said they relplaced my mobo, guess they may have goofed.

Ok, I took the battey out and the AC adapter and held the power button down for a few seconds to dicharge. Replaced battery and plugged it back in, the battery charge light is now on and I think the battery was completely dead. But when I push the power butoon it flickers on for a second then goes off while the battery charge light remains on. But if I remove the power cord and put it back in the battery charge light wont come on unless I again remove it and discharge. Any suggestions? Right now Im letting it charge the battery a bit to see where that gets me.

Second Edit: Ok I am still charging battery but if I do the whole discharge thing then put only the battery back in the system acts like it is about to post then power of, as opposed to just a flicker when on main. I suppose that there is a problem with the mobo.......... guess Ive got to RMA. 3rd times a charm right? Also I noticed, if I push the power button once it wont try to boot again, but if I use the CMOS reset button it will. Perhaps one of the GPU's or RAM or CPU is "tripping the system? Is it worth it to try pulling some of this stuff?

It will run without a battery I am sure without even testing it, sounds like your power supply is messed up or some other critical part inside the W90.

Sounds like a RMA situation for sure, I would go for DOA replacement this time, not a repair and get one of the new units.

Just wanted to drop in and catch up a bit here, still havent installed the 9.4 drivers haha, I guess I am happy with the performance with stock drivers as it stands! elvn, mine is an all clear (after a couple of original glitches that have not shown up for over a month) and I passed Fallout 3 already. Not really liking Empire Total War due to the troops constantly getting "stuck" on walls and bridges causing the troops which dont get stuck to be killed, needs better AI!

If it can be clocked to around 700mhz core stable, it's possible. Only thing I see as an obstacle is if the MXM 3.0b cards have the same flashing method as the MXM 2.x cards...and also if it's locked like they did with some of the 3870s in the M17.

You are. Didn't argue about that. Heck, you might want to call Guiness now before that record goes away since you're only .06% above the fastest W90 GPU score so far. All I said is that the W90 in question would probably do very well or "destroy" Vantage given how well they scale with CPU speed. I don't see why you're so up in arms about that given what we've seen in this thread.

Which test are you referring to in that last sentence?

Dose anyone know where I might find a dissasembly guide for the W90? I figured out my problem is something loose within the laptop because if I start it up at the right angle and dont move it it works fine, but as soon as I move it a bit BAM blackout. So I figure if I can get far enough into it Ill find it, there is no turning back now, Ive removed the warranty label. Guess I live dangerously lol.

Theres another sticker on the battery :) and as for a disassembly manual - doubtful. Id just go at it and if need be label every screw that comes off it in a little baggie if you feel you might not be able to remember placement.

Update on my machine, issue with it shutting off the display while in a game menu. I was helping a customer while starting up trackmania and i have the monitor timeout set to 2 minutes, i come back and bring it out of sleep mode to get a terrible out of sync issue. Anyone else get that when coming out of the monitor 'off' mode?

You are. Didn't argue about that. Heck, you might want to call Guiness now before that record goes away since you're only .06% above the fastest W90 GPU score so far. <----hummm... yes....06 percent...and yet they haven't beat it. old tech and no cpu/fsb/memory over clocking.. .very interesting......but then i already know why.
and in the end...all that mattered to me was...i accomplished that. oh and by the way...they don't go by gpu scoring as a singular..only we do..so your a bit farther than 06. percent away as a whole..

All I said is that the W90 in question would probably do very well or "destroy" Vantage given how well they scale with CPU speed. <---and all i gave was an opinion on it. that it wouldn't. if it did that great...the same people who posted about 3dmark06 would post about vantage mark as well..seeing how they are international over clockers.

I don't see why you're so up in arms about that given what we've seen in this thread. <---up in arms about what? i gave an opinion as it was stated...not sure what your seeing or getting out of that. i thought it was quite simplified to be honest.

Which test are you referring to in that last sentence?[/quote]
    lets see...ill give you 3
    extreme/high/performance.
bet my percentage is quite a bit higher in high and extreme...:) and a lot higher than 3870's...all given for...3 year old technology.....but like they say...your machine is only as good as it's owner. so i can probably make 4870's scream..if i decided to go that route.

Well, since you seem to know alot about benchmarking and such, please do explain why. I, and I'm sure others, would like to know too.

Btw, the G92 mobile is only two years old, not three. And the 9800M GTX specifically is not up to a year old. I know you like to exaggerate things, but c'mon. We already get that the g92 mobile and the G80/g92 architecture itself is an awesome design.
