one person flaming the sellers is not a flame war.

you guys and these internet forum diss words be killing me..lol
i guess they mean something to some one who cares about that sort of thing....

    anywhoo...
the rma's out weigh the good machines....hopefully asus is finally getting this right and this nexdt shipment..number 5 if im not misten.. hopefully it will be wit all the work this thread had done, with a few addon mods by asus...if not....don't know what to say there...

for the record..my 9262 did not run flawless out of the box...
it took me switching my cards and replacing a bad card to get it to flawless. which it has been running since nov of last year.

I wish asus would be a little more vocal on what the exact issue is. They delay and delay to release a new 'fixed' version that still has issues... What was the delay for? what did you 'fix' asus?

To the guy who was a little miffed at my comment about the 512 vram. This is something i knew when i stepped into this buy. I knew it was something that either i would live with or would constantly annoy me. I took the step and ive lived with the repercussions of that. In reality i probably wont sell the machine but instead knock the resolution down (something any enthusiast hates to do). Despite the advertised 1gb or ram it is like said by a few others only usable at 512megs. It just the way crossfire and sli work.

The w90 is still a great machine but if you plan to milk it for all its worth (read qx9300 ocing and what have you) then its not the best route to go. I understand why asus doesn't want to release a vmod bios because to many people would end up overvolting and overclocking this thing like a desktop. Just disappointing that the enthusiast is left behind because of it.

This machine still pumps great frame rates and will for a while to come, I just like to get the most out of whatever I buy and that always leaves me with regrets in the end. Dont let my annoyance with the vram influence you, as the problem can be solved by dropping resolution, just something i dont like to do :)

When you say size i think of you meaning bigger not smaller lol :) yes the alienware is smaller and IMHO better looking but this one may not have that nasty glass on the screen and would sway me in this direction , But then there is the glossy palmrests on the M98nu(YUCK) and thats almost just as bad as the glass screens ( damn i cant win) lol. That glass screen in a brightly lit classroom(where your headed is going drive you banana's no matter how sexy the M17x is)

Haha all of you were wrong in answering his question.

That is the new flash type, it has nothing to do with the bios.

Yes you can use the guide, except you need to look at the end page where Ken posted his boot cd for ATIFlash, your going to use ATIFlash instead of WinFlash as the WinFlash program seems to not work properly on the new flash type.

Im going to scrap the old guide completly and have all users use ATIFlash ultimately since its safer and faster. But for now Ken made it as easy as possible for somebody to do by having all the bios and tools needed on a single burnable cd .iso

My guess is these new flash types are a newer card, perhaps a fixed card? My unit came with one new one and one old one, and I have no issues, so you have two new ones, maybe you can pass that 2d test posted 10 or so pages back before the forum version of jerry springer was started.

lol. it'd be tempting if i had another 1k to burn.. to bring it up to q9000, 6gb of ram, another 320gb hdd, and added warranties you are looking at around 3.3k.. sorry, not worth a slightly better rig that would drive me INSANE because of how glossy it is.. i think the w90 is bad enough with the gloss... any more than that is just gloss-overkill.

i can't agree with striker or wwoods for the most part; i believe it is asus' fault, and that the resellers have little to no liability. i mean, come on, ken really doesn't have to help anybody.. best buy sure as hell won't, they'll just tell you to go to the geek squad kiosk. btw, how is ken selling an inferior product? it isn't ken's job to ensure that the laptop works... it is his job to sell them - nothing more.

Why is everyone dumping on me, LOL!

I simply said that I understand what wwoods was saying, since no one seemed to grasp the concept. AND, I WAS NOT SAYING ANYTHING POOR OF KEN..... GEE WIZ...... PLEASE READ FOLKS! I also said the I understood BOTH opposing points of view, but somehow that got missed in my post.

NOTHING in my post was directed toward Ken, and as a matter of fact, whatever I purchase....... another W90, or the new Sager NP9850, will be VERY MUCH dependent on Ken's evaluation and testing of BOTH machines. Ken has been VERY helpful and honest with me, and his opinion is HIGHLY valued. His recommendations and thoughts are very much a factor in my current position, and will greatly weigh my decision. For me, there is no better place to puchase a notebook, than GenTech PC!

Ken also is offering the new Sager, and again, I think it's nice we now have choices. Again competition can be a wonderful thing.

    http://1toppc.com/Merchant2/merchant.mv?Screen=PROD&Product_Code=Sager-NP9850

I have NOT abandoned the W90, but I feel there are reasons for concern, and admittedly I am a bit miffed in this experience. Should the new Sager meet my expectations, then so be it, but both are in the running right now. Ken's honest evaluation of the two systems will tell the tale for me! I am ready to purchase again, but I am NOT going to do so hurriedly this time.

So I hope this clears up the skewed FACTS, inferences, and misperceptions!

    :)

Im also hoping Ken gets a Sager unit for testing soon, I just found out he carries it now.

Sager has is history of issues too, I browse there forums now and then and honestly I think I see more bad stuff on most other brands sections than the Asus one.

The W90 is perfect through and through except the gpu issue, Asus has to do something at some point about it they cant just keep paying overnight RMA service for 2 years for each person.

I fully and honestly think I would like the W90 better. It looks thinner, its better styled, it has a better warranty, its much cheaper for what you get, and we know it runs really cool (one of the main issues I am concerned about with the sager) + more.

The sager has not enough good things going for it to make it better than the W90 for its current cost. There are W90 owners with good units, so I still say its a bad gpu issue. I think this new flash type is a sign that they have started changing something in the physical gpu itself, also if I have to I may start editing the gpu bios 2d & low 3d clocks to see if I can fix the issue.

Yes, Ken's analysis and comparison of these two machines will be interesting. Can't wait! :D

No doubt the Sager will be more costly. Though I have already purchased key hardware, with the Sager, there will be the additional cost of DDR3, warranty, and OS. For me to opt this route, the Sager will have to make a very good showing. Also, a major concern for me here, will be heat, fan control, & noise mgmt...... and of course we already know the W90 is a stellar performer, in this dept.

    Again, we shall see!

    :)

i was just saying it isn't the responsibility of the reseller to ensure quality. i just used ken as an example, because he honestly doesn't need to "go the extra mile;" he does it because he wants to, and cares about customer relations, and the customer in general. i'm just saying, at best buy, you go and buy a laptop and they tell you to f off, or contact the maker of your product.

like i said earlier, the sager is nice, but i can't afford it.. the w90 is a great deal with the warranties and stock components. lol, not all of us can buy 12gb of ram, or qx9300s...

i'm wondering though, what will you do if you do get the sager? return the ram, and buy ddr3? ddr3 ram is hecka expensive. fyi striker, i take free ram donations!!

I was saying that earlier to wwoods, just because you buy another laptop doesn't make you exempt from having any problems.. Asus does have problems, but eventually they will have to do something about it, otherwise they will never make a profit off of it.

What about free? I'm poor enough as it is.. lol. College = lots and lots of moola.

But yeah, I wasn't that interested in the m980nu because of its looks. I like the W90 because it is plain lookin'. I don't really want flashing LEDs on the outside of my lappy... Same reason I stick away from AW, that and I am scared of heating issues that my friend had experienced... and the prices for upgrades are a tad high.

    W90 = poor man's high-end lappy. haha.

i think we talked about this before? i am not so sure about the model, i don't know that much about AW.. but i'm pretty sure it was an m15.

the frame also had cracking.. so iono, what laptops of AW have had heating and cracking issues?

i know their products are of higher quality now, but i feel like people who buy AW could get a better deal somewhere else... but they just want the looks, which is fine, but i'm not going to pay for LED lights that just add to the wasted battery life. i think keyboard lighting is were i draw the line.. i don't mind that.

My response from ASUS support after asking that they please update the video drivers is to have me update the bios to fix any gpu issues

I don't think contacting ASUS support is going to do a damn thing in our quest for updated video drivers. We will just get a canned response and the issue closed.

    Maybe an online petition?

I have had my W90 since March and only had problems with booting up. It seems it always needs the power supply connected to boot up or it never boots in Vista 64.

Other than that it runs cool and I have been using it non stop since March. Mostly playing WOW, Flight Simulator and Crysis. I have a super duper desktop but it seems I am spending more time on the ASUS laptop.

You guys are scaring me with almost 900 pages of complaints. Maybe I am the exception but so far so good with mine. Keeping my fingers crossed lol.

There is only 50 pages of complaints... The rest is benchmarks and drivers, lol.

Same here except I don't have any issue booting up without the power plugged

Aside from the out-dated driver, I've had no problems yet. Freaked out once, however, when I was getting BSOD after an OC too high, but powered down for a few seconds and it gracefully came back to life

I have an open box X2 on the way from NewEgg. After doing some good testing to make sure everything's ok (crossing my fingers), I'll be reselling at a serious discount...

I have to say then,, Why doesn't mine get the same FPS in Dalaran? I run at 12-32 and that is with setting at mid and no shadows or lighting effects running.. CPU OC'd at 15%
but not the cards OC'd. I have an excellent dedicated line for connection also.

Mine is stock too.. why such a difference?

And I have to say also.. WoW is the only game so far that doesn't perform as well as I wanted it to.. It's just a driver issue - not a W90 issue completely.

It's a pain, but try going with default WT(ee)F and Addons folder. Just rename them to WT(tee)F.old and Addons.old. The (ee) is added for profanity filter.

My server is not super populated so there's less activity there. If Dalaran is packed with people and you get FPS drops, that might be why. You can also try reinstalling the stock driver in case something is amiss. Lastly, the blizzard repairtool can be used to check for bad files in the installation.

    Good luck!
