maybe you should run stock first and compare...if your system ram isn't keeping up...it will also stutter bad...im finding this out now on a desktop..(speculation for your situation)

Cards wont throttle or anything till much higher, under 90c is considered green temp zone for a gpu. I managed like 87c I think on my card with a stress test. But I also am in a cool room on a flat desk with ICD on my cards now too. (though I admit the AS5 install on there already was nearly as good as the ICD)

I have deleted more than a fare share of posts. As this is an owners lounge its designed to help others help each other just like every other thread on this forum is intended to do. If you have nothing constructive dont say it.
To the three who did argue one of you have received and infraction and next time if someone comes and posts inflammatory posts report it the first time rather than when it is out of control and has confused many users.
NOW YOU HAVE ALL BEEN WARNED -
Isnt their like three different rendering modes? AFR, Scissor, Interlaced. How do you use these other ones? It there any way to get to these options?

Cat AI is the only control you have I think.

Hello everyone, I do own a w90 and fully happy with it, but i'd like to purchase the 12Gb memory as well, i saw it is only possible on newegg and they dont ship overseas.. And since i do actually live in france, would it be possible for vicious or striker to get them for me and then ship them to me? (of course i'd pay them first via paypal or something, based on a trust-trust deal...)...??
Thanks for your quick reply guys...
Doope!!! -

Why is it only possible on newegg?
Just get the 3x4gb sodimms and toss them in there.
There has to be a place that ships to France that sells 4gb so-dimms. -
Ok, I notice that with Cat A.I. disabled their is no activity on the second card. So dose Cat A.I. completely turn off xfire?
-
ViciousXUSMC Master Viking NBR Reviewer
This is one of those things I would have to research to figure out. -
Yeah the really odd thing is that I get 60FPS solid on Burnout Paradise but randomly get these stutters. But I can disable A.I. and get 35FPS but no stutters. Really odd. I guess I chalk it up to xfire incompatibility. I still love this machine however, even 1 card outdose my FX with 9800GTS

Also I have this new program called fps limiter that may help too. -
Vsync is on by default, I dont think there is an option to turn it off. What is FPS limiter?

ViciousXUSMC i really wold like to se you run a Far Cry benchmark in your W90
the alienware m17x stock (vga and one Qx9300 @ 2.53 Ghz) and in get's this results
Far Cry 2 @ 1920x1200 with all detail levels at their maximum level.
min 30
max 46
average 36
Crysis Warhead @ 1680x1050, on Enthusiast setting with no AA or AF.
min 23
max 38
average 30
Can you please test thsi with you CPU @ the same speed and settings ?
Bguard's m8
edit:
BTW ViciousXUSMC, what is your score in 3dmark vantage, and 3dmark 2006 with your cpu @ 2.8 and teh VGA's maxed out ? -
dondadah88 Notebook Nobel Laureate
the m17x had one gpu in it???
my average for fc2 in 32 and i think i was stocked.
my 3870x2 was 61 average no gpu overclock. -
with what settings dondadah88 ? im talking about FC2 @ 1920x1200 with all detail levels at their maximum levels

yap you are right.... Crysis is a bit nvidiaolic lol
; any way Far cry wold be really nice... i think you cold test it this the Demo (not 100% shore dow) ... it wold be a nice REAL WORLD COMPARISON to see ... Im with you m8, "drop it like its hot"
-
I'll give FC2 and Crisis Warhead a shot too, but there is no way to replicate the benches in the Driverheaven review. They don't use the canned game tests, but take an average FPS of several in-game run-throughs. There's no mention of where the run-throughs were done in the games.
-
yap that is right but still it wold be to see if The asus is one pair with the alienware m17x , one more fps one less fps that dosent his a big deal i think...
btw: BTW ViciousXUSMC, what is your score in 3dmark vantage, and 3dmark 2006 with your cpu @ 2.8 and teh VGA's maxed out ? (i really wold like to know ) -
Haven't installed Vantage yet, but over four runs I average just above 15000 in 3dmark06 at 2.8ghz and 600/900 on the GPUs. Still using shipped drivers. -
harmattan you need to upgrade the drivers and test vantage... 3dmk 06 is verry Cpu dependent vantage is the best way to compare Overall systems
-
Sweet! I didn't realize it was out on the PC yet!

Hey you guys, I have a question about Vista I was hoping you can answer..
When Ken and I uninstalled my drivers/vbios/ccc a few windows sounds disappeared... I checked in my sounds tab, and found that windows sounds are enabled.. However, when I open a folder, or click on a link, there is no *click* sound.. Anybody know how to turn this back on? It is frigging anoying the heck out of me. -
Decided to request an RMA, just too many problems with this laptop - periodic BSOD indicating HDAUDBUS.SYS issue.............. Second vid card either not enabled or faulty batch accounting for unobtainable mark06 scores as advertised by ASUS.............. mouse and sound not initiating/working after hard boot and/or coming out of sleep mode which requires multiple soft boots to enable both........... wireless keeps losing signal even though the signal is indicating strong................... double letters during typing........................... I have never had any major or even slight issues with prior new laptops by Dell, HP or even Lenovo - maybe I was just lucky - I wanted a powerhouse gamer this time around and went with the W90 because it certainly appeared to have the best bang for the buck. Very dissapointed especially after coming across this forum and the official ASUS forum and finding out that the issues are numerous and maybe even inherent design flaws. Can't wait to go without my computer for an unknown period of time, see if they can even correct the problems, and ship it without having any kind of cosmetic damage occur to my laptop. Just plain sucks.

its quite nice
their is the employee purchase program 7%
the dell prefered account is 4 %(easy to get and do) -
http://ve3d.ign.com/articles/news/48255/Street-Fighter-IV-PC-Benchmarker-Released -
I priced out a dell-alienware M17x with:
Q9000 cpu.. dual 260m "2GB" sli ... default 4gb 1066 ram
single 320gb 7200rpm hdd.. 17" 1920x1200 WUXGA rez screen
DL DVD burner (no Bluray)
and with a 3yr Ltd hardware + in home after remote diagnostic
would be $2773 except for the fact that I live in NYstate which means big tax from dell, so it comes to $3047. ($29 ship, $245 tax).Thats a big difference from the $2250 for the W90vp-X2 at egg, and the X2 comes with 6gb ram.
2yr to 2yr warranty would be $2950 post tax alienware vs $2250 w90vp-x2. So far there's a $700 difference, which is considerable to me. Up it to 6gb ram with the alienware configurator and the gap grows to $1100 difference out of the box if you go with preinstalled ram.
However with dell preferred account, the cost with default 4gb ram is $2832 with 2yr warranty, and preferred + student discount = $2625 with 2yr warranty. So, if you get the full 11% discount, the gap narrows to $375. Thats if you stick with the 4gb ram default, choose a single 320gb 7200rpm hdd, and no bluray optical, and IF you can get the full 11% discount. I know this isn't exactly apples to apples since even the X2 comes with 6gb ram and the 18.4" screen, surround, speakers, etc.. but it suits my budgeting/mockup purpose.
So I'm still tagging along without buying... still hoping that asus straightens the W90's out.... I'd much rather go with mobile ati gpu after the nvidia mobile fiasco burned me personally, and I like asus' support and the 18.4" screen. I just thought I'd pass along some number crunching / option weighing I did in case things don't work out with the W90's. -
Wow elvn . I just fell in love with you .
-
ATi Catalyst 9.6 is out, do you think one of you guys can try it out, and lets see if their is a change.
http://game.amd.com/us-en/drivers_catalyst.aspx -
I hope ATI can keep up with this: http://gizmodo.com/5290473/nvidia-geforce-200m-graphics-cards-just-made-your-notebook-old-and-busted
If they update teh 280M GTX too, this would be an insane increase.
They are using GDDR5 in the GTS 250M and GTS 260M now (with the G200 architecture).
I wonder if AW will update the graphics cards to this.... -
Just spoke to my tech rep at Asus ( my old G1s was in for mobo/gpu fix) and he told me they are so close to releasing the beta drivers for the W90. He has been working on getting Warhammer to run without crashes plus other games that need performance boost ( WoW perhaps?) lol...
He told me to disable crossfire in the bios and run one card to see if it helps in World of Warcraft -
He also mentioned something regarding the bridge to crossfire being bad architecture(?) in the stock drivers or something of the sort -- Anyway,, they(Asus) are very aware of everyone's distress and have drivers almost ready for public release.
He is going to email me when they are ready for download.
All in all, the W90 is running beautiful in most other games I play besides WoW. I agree on the W90 being a great value. -
Ok just tweak 9.6 file for our video cards. Will test when i get home.
Thanks Kuranei for the find. -
the dual 260's should out perform we should see
also 6 gigs of ram is expensive with ddr3 and kinda use less(for me) -
The reality is no matter what laptop you buy or bought in the past, it will become outdated practically before it arrives at your door. The W90 is a solid performer and has a very good bang:buck ratio. You could spend a little more and get a little more. It boils down to how much do you want to spend and for what? If you wait for the next best thing to come out, you'll hear about the new laptop on the horizon and be in the same place as you are now.
If you are on the fence, you can be assured that the W90 is an excellent laptop in every way. RMA's are the nature of the business and unfortunate that the W90 has seen more than normal amounts. When you get one that works solidly, it is just that, a solid laptop for the price.
I have no regrets buying this machine, even if next week something 10% faster comes out for 10% higher price. If you are on the fence, decide your price point and min spec's you'll live with and take action from there.
It comes as a great relief that Asus is on the verge of posting updated video drivers. This means they are committed to advancing the quality of the laptop, as us consumers should expect.

My only hope is that when I get my W90, Asus doesn't release an updated version of the W90 with GDDR5, or more features for the same price.
-
OK just got my w90 and alas wireless is not turning on. I have connected to wireless network then had to restart and now wireless is not turning on. I know there is a switch on the side but it only controls bluetooth for me. Not sure what to do, don't see any other switches.
BTW already had one BSOD, was installing WOW and tried to access the media controls via the laptop buttons and boom BSOD. I hope I don't have to RMA this thing -
you should have a an application running in the systray to select whether the BT and wireless lan is enabled. It should be a blue circle. Do you have this?
-
-
As far as the driver update, I'll believe it when I see it. Hopefully they'll have 9.4 or above.
On a side note, I just installed the new 9.6 on my desktop and the improvement in Crysis is phenomenal. I can finally play at 2560x1600 with most enthusiast settings. -
-
Wait guys so the driver is finally out ?

UPS showed up today with my new W90, I must admit I was a little bit worried about what I would end up with after seeing the horror stories about open box units, previous damage, etc. Well, lucky enough, everything looked perfect, no open box unit or anything like that.
After starting it up it went through the initial asus setup program, etc, and for some bizarre reason the screen brightness was going up and down the whole time while it was doing this initial setup. I was pretty worried that it was defective however after it did it's thing and went into Vista, it stopped doing the auto adjust up and down of the brightness.
I installed Far Cry 2 and ran it at 1920 x 1080 with details on very high and it was very smooth. I'm very impressed with the gaming performance. I proceeded with installing a bunch of other programs, no glitches or hang-ups with stuff, everything installed very fast, the 6 g of ram and the quadcore make this thing quick. I was playing a video though in half the screen while installing numerous things at once and I did get some glitchy white lines the odd time across the screen, it didn't seem to like me playing a video while performing a bunch of other tasks. When I full screened it the problem went away. Just a minor inconvenience, I'm not overly concerned about it.
Coming from my 3 year old Dell Inspiron 9400, this laptop is far more impressive. The screen size going from 17" to 18.4" makes a huge difference, and this screen is way brighter than my Dells. I really like the full keyboard with the number pad.
A few small annoyances include the media controls above the volume buttons, I've hit them a few times while trying to turn up the volume while playing games and it opens up the stupid asus multimedia program thing. The flashing white hdd activity light is also annoying in a dark room, I think I'll just put some black paint on it to dim it.
Anyways, hopefully I don't get any big glitches with this thing, off to a good start so far. I absolutely love this computer and once the drivers get resolved it will be even better. -
Well I contacted Asus today about my W90 RMA. The CS rep tried to get a hold of a tech but (my bad timing) they were out to lunch. Anyway the CS rep tells me she'll find out what's going on. She called me back a couple of hours later and told me they're going to replace the VGA cards and are waiting on stock.
I was impressed to get a call back with details.... Keeping my fingers crossed for fast vga restock.I'm forlorn for my W90.
Grats RPM_MX, welcome to the club...! -
-
Haven't installed FC2 yet (stupid 16-hour work days...). Good to know it runs smoothly, and good to see I'm not the only person in the world who actually likes that gameNot sure if I'm just lucky, but I've had nothing but greatness from the 6 games I've run so far.
Now just download SetFSB and see how high you can crank
I've got another w90, an open box X2, coming from Newegg to play with tomorrow. If it ain't broke, it's going to a friend for $1650 (what I paid...) because I'm feeling generous. If not, returd. -
