so...any far cry 2 updated benchmarks yet?

 

SLI 260? Thats a rare choice most are going to want the SLI 280's

 

nope 60% sli 260's

30 % 280's

10% single 260's

from what i have seen in the order lounge

260's are not that far away from 280's

 

Hmmm...just got finished playing eve-online and I am concerned that my 2nd card isnt working....

This is what I am seeing:


Something doesnt seem right. Notice the temp on the 2nd card....Any ideas for me ?

And yes I got this back from RMA and I am hoping I am reading this wrong.

 

temp monitor wont do you any good unless you run it while your in the game, also the 2nd card is always about 10c cooler on my unit.

 

Hmm I wonder, always the difference was pretty big in the past, about 20% of performance. I dont think 260's are going to beat the 4870's

 

no the 4870's could beat the 280's not by much though

yea 260's run 10-15% slower then a 280 but SLI 260's are more then enough for now

me personally i am getting a single 260( can't afford more now, and im going to play the field and wait on 4870's (i like ATI prices))

 

We gotta get the 9.6's working on the W90, finally a performance boost we need, both Crysis & Warhead like 12% boost on multi-gpu solutions.

Maybe that puts us next to SLI for Nvidia

 

Just ran 3d Mark V on my system got 8613 GPU score, suspect that my second card is not functioning. When I try to autotune in CCC it never goes above 50% of processing. Also the temp on the second card is 0 every time I check. Any suggestions?

 

Is that with an OC? I was getting around 9k prior to OC'ing to around 2.6ghz, then I got around 10k in vantage.

 

Damn, that sort of sucks. I think we have similar issues, so we might be awaiting similar parts... I'm RMA'ing later this week... let me kno if you get an update with the parts.

 

No OC'ing, didn't really look into that. If you tell me how to OC I will do so and reran the test. Still 8.6 is low. Thanks

 

i wouldn't count the 260 out mr moo. it's got the same shaders as the 9800m gtx and that's still doing this in sli



but with your choice...you'll be able to run ati or nvidia, so that already puts it at the all powerfull level.

 

my single card score is only like 5.8k so thats not a single card score.

 

Yea you gotta get those going . I hope this time its really 12% and not like we saw from the stock drivers to the 9.4s which also promised something like 10% increase in crysis. Also hopefully its not 12% with 8xAA or some such junk and just a straight boost in performance, sometimes when they put those stats out there the conditions which they saw such a boosts is unlikely for all but the top 4% of rigs.

 

Can I bench FC2 with the demo or do I need the real game?

 

Whew, that made me feel better. So I shouldn't be too worried about this?

Next test is installing WOW

 

Have one user report that it let him on his computer (not a W90) go from medium to high settings, and that the boost was very noticible.

Also that last crysis performance boost I am sure it was single card only, this time its multi card.

I just tried to mobility mod it, they install but do not work right.

Mouse lag at startup, linked adapters in the CCC, but my vantage score is only like 5.8 for the gpu showing only one card works. Something in the .inf file needs to be changed to make it work right.

I wonder if I took the working 9.4 .inf and just used it for 9.6, would it basically keep the same performance as the 9.4's or would it maybe work and install the 9.6.

I think its odd that ati has Win 7 mobility drivers for the 4800 but none for Vista.

 

that's a good question...you should be able to bench the demo as well.

Im not to sure about the INF swap but its worth a shot , as sometimes those things work but other times not .

Wish E-wrecked were still around he never comes around much anymore as i think Real life as taken front seat for him .

 

I dont think there is a Farcry 2 demo as open world games and demos dont always mix well together .

 

3dmark v is not letting me see my test (beyond the first test) results without paying for a non-trial edition key. Is there any way around that?

Been messing with the .inf files, made some headway.

I can see how its put together, you have a card type reference and then it references to several sub settings sections in the file.

I think I can copy the M9X settings from the 9.4 INF over the R7X settings the mobility modder is using, I just have to have more time on my hands and make notes as I go so I do not lose my place.

With luck after I have converted everything the new 9.6's will work.

 

you sure you can't just change the desktop id to the mobile id's and see if it will detect that way?
and in the lower sections if it is also listed?

 

No not really its missing that stuff, so I have to outright convert it.

Its just one or two settings keeping it from working correctly I think.

I may have to do it for both files too, not sure.

 

I coverted the 9.6 for the 4870x2 and it doesnt work. Somethings changed from 9.4 to 9.5 and 9.6.

 

hummmmm, hadn't counted on that stuff not matching up...

can you use file compare to list the inf files side by side to see what is missing? i think it's called file compare 4.0 or something. it shows missing stuff in different colors and things like that...

I think I just found a fix for you guys that have 2d crash issues.

Well not a fix, a work around, but a cool one

If you use winamp and listen to music like I do your already 99% there.

Use the visulization Milk Drop 2 and run it in desktop mode. The vis actually replaces your desktop background. There is a bug in Vista where it covers your icons even though its not supposed too, but thats OK! I have a fix for that too.

You can just pin your desktop folder to your start menu since the task bar is still there, or do what I just did, install Rocketdock and put a shortcut to your desktop folder on it.

Now the card stays in 3d clocks 99% of the time so it should reduce the chance of 2d clocks crash to almost nothing and at the same time you have the coolest desktop ever.

I have to make a video of it in action.

 

A1 owners, what software are you using to play Blu-Ray disks?

 

I use the standard Asus media player knock off by the way does anyone know how to remove the turbogear symbol from the top left corner?

 

I was able to get that to go away by simply cycling through the turbogear options. I am unable to play Blu Rays from the menu using the Asus ai touch media center. It pops up the controls but no option to play the movie.

I ordered an open box X2 on a whim last week and was a bit hesitant, but figured it was no risk since a) if it worked ok I'd resell b) if it was busted I'd returd it for a refund. It arrived today. I have been testing it in Prime, Orthos and 3dmark06 for 6 hours OC'ed... absolutely flawless. What's more, it came with all accessories, was not registered for Asus warranty and is in absolutely perfect condition.

It OCs even better than my retail w90vp at 2.82ghz (my original w90 gets to 2.68ghz) and GPUs are running just as cool. This one's a keeper. I'm spreading the love and my original is going to a friend for $1800 $150 more than I paid for the open box (is that wrong ).

I'm now at 15328 in 3dmark06. Downloading FC2 now for some benching.

 

Thsi screenie was taken while playing eve,cl;early shows both cards in my system, but only one seems to be working looking at the temps. As you can also see, linked also. Any ideas whats wrong here ?

 

Im not sure what you are lookig at in that screenshot, but that is only the temp and activity for the first card. You have to click to little lock thing to enable overdrive and then use the lower drop down menu to switch to the second card and see its temps and activity.

Click the circled lock, then click the drop down that the arrow is pointing at to select the second card. Its the one that dosent say default LCD.

I found that file the other day but did not download it, as that is not Far Cry 2.

That is Far Cry Demo #2, the first sign for me was look at the OS list Vista is not even on there

The second more blatant thing is the date of 2004

 

This might be kind of a noob question. With the GDDR5 memory in the 260M GTS wont it be better than the 260M GTX? Or even the 280GTX?
