Sounds good in theory. However it seems like Asus has been talking about these 'beta' drivers for a while now. I'll believe it when I see it. My system is working great after flashing the cards to master/master and installing the 9.4 drivers. Hopefully whatever they eventually give us is an upgrade, like 9.6 drivers.
-
How about posting his/her name so we can call and get this verified, ASUS has promised a lot, and along with the resellers, delivered on almost none of those promises. -
The only rep I talk to is Paul Munoz ext 5053. -
I've been getting discouraged with the problems this laptop is having so I took a quick look at the price of the Sager NP9850 and that's really depressing.
I hope they sort this thing out.
Why are there so few W90VP-A1's available? Only Newegg seems to have them. -
Excitement!!!! I just logged onto Asus Repair Inquiry and it showed a status of:
Repair Finished()
Their statuses go Product Received > (Waiting) > Repairing > Final Testing > Packing > Ready for Shipping > Repair Finished
So woot I hope I get it back this week. The anticipation!!!
I'll post the results. -
Wow... I was told the cards would not arrive until mid July, and then testing might take another 2-3 biz days... Hopefully yours works out well.
Im anxious to get mine back to see whether I will be keeping the 9262 or the W90 -
dondadah88 Notebook Nobel Laureate
i think you will keep your sager overall with performance. with features the w90 wins
-
My only gripes with the sager is that the plastic seems too cheap. Already have broken plastic from movine the screen too much. Also, my wife thinks the W90 looks waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay better... and she wants me to keep that one. I dont anticipate upsetting her by getting the other unless its justified, or she will cut me off. -
dondadah88 Notebook Nobel Laureate
stand up and let her know.
(you didnt heat that from me.)
-
hide it from her

Lol. you can do that also.

I just purchased an ASUS W90VP-X2 and it arrived yesterday. Other than uninstalling some bloatware, the first steps I took were updating to ASUS' latest 4870x2 drivers (although these are still quite old). After finding that these drivers would not install, I uninstalled them and loaded up the factory drivers once again.
After downloading 3dmark 06 and running the benchmark, I was very disgusted with a score of around 6000 marks in standard mode (not overclocking). The device manager shows both cards and gpu-z is also detecting both and monitoring their clock speeds separately. Performance in Half-Life 2 and similar (source) games seems to be well below what I expected out of this machine.
I don't understand what the problem is but it seems like they just aren't putting out the power they're supposed to be. If anyone has any suggestions, feel free to share. I can't tell what kind of issue this is, but I'm ready to RMA if need be.. -
I have a feeling the W90 won't be around long. Too bad as I would have loved to have had this computer.

I can't find anyone other than Newegg that has this laptop.

First off... when I stand up to her... she just gives me a sexy look... its like kryptonite. (I know... Im weak and its sad)
Second... hide it from her?!!? nah... I swear she can smell when something is new or out of place... even if she is not around.
just went through some more stress tests on the 9262... based on what the W90 was putting out when i had it... i dont think it will be competing with this guy... things are looking grim for the asus. Im rooting for it though
Don, seriously man... you need that second card... words just cant explain. I took one of my cards out, then put it back in... and its like a cold wintery night vs high noon in phoenix az in august... its that much different. -

LOl. i would love for you do do a full comparsion on both. (a thread with a full review.) i know eletrosoft did his with his whitebook vs w90 and he keeped the w90. but there's alot of stuff i would like to know about both systems and since you have both i would love your response.
i understand about the girl -
My fixed W90 arrived today and so far I'm relatively happy.
It came with the factory ATI drivers again. I was hoping for something better though. I used ATIWinflash to dump my current master vbios and apply it to the slave card without any issues. Applied 9.4 modded drivers and Vantage reports my GPU and CPU scores back over 10k.
My 2D crash issues appear to be gone. I surfed the web for hours tonight even on the pages that would cause me to crash consistently in the past.
So far everything appears to be rock solid. I hope it stays that way. Tomorrow I'll do a little o/cing just for fun.
Interestingly the enclosed "Notebook Repair" sheet shows that they replaced the Main System Board and the USB Board. When I called they told me they were waiting on VGA boards for my system so I wonder if those were replaced as well.

Unlike mkinasz, I have to wait until mid July (or so they say) to get the replacement cards.
Hey mkinasz, feel like running the burn-in test to see if things are really working? http://www.passmark.com/download/bit_download.htm -
Just called ASUS and they said it is sold out. I asked if it is still being produced and she said she is not sure.
Strange. -
Orion, I'm gonna try the 2D test. Will post the results shortly.
{edit}
FAIL.. The passmark 2D test still blanked my screen. I was able to hit my Windows key, right arrow, enter and it did successfully shut down so it wasn't frozen. Guess I'll have to hope everything is well going forward. -
Need advice.
It looks as though the W90VP-A1 is discontinued. So I've been considering the new Sager 9850 but she's expensive.
Do I go for the W90VP-X2 from Newegg knowing full well there probably won't be any future driver support?
I mean is this laptop really worth it? It seems as though it is -

why not look at the m17x
just wondering. -

oh ok. well the np985 is going to be faster and they improved there cooling so i guess if you can wait, you can make a better decision.

right now i like it. i'm not sli'd yet so i can't give my full opinion on it. but the i like the quality of it. the touchpad and the keyboard on it feels good quality. it
s easy to disassemable and put apart. the cooling on it is very good as well. there's alot more i can say but i don't know want to know about it. -
-
dondadah88 Notebook Nobel Laureate
sorry. i'm getting tired. i meant to say. i don't know what you want to know about it.

Thats it. (personal opinion of course)
I have the W90 (Currently out for RMA) and I have the 9262...
Processing power, depending on what processor you have, cant be beat by any of the current SLi/Crossfire notebooks. There are those notebooks that have the i7, but they only have single GPU configs. The 9800m GTX is really not far behind the gtx 280m at all, especially when OCed ( im running 600/1500/900. could go higher... but why bother)
Im not big on benches, but johnksss held numerous records with this system. And games... IMO run more fluent and crisp than the W90. (hopefully vic wont flame me for that one) The cooling is perfect... CPU idles @ 39C and 62C at full load, GPUs 41C idle and 73C full load. (others may be cooler, but they are not OC'ed)
As far as build quality... its pretty solid. there are two slight weakpoints in the plastic in the back of the system below the lcd, but nothing to stress over.
Personally, im not really much of a fan of nvidia since the 8k series (burnt out cards) but ati's/asus' driver support (or lack thereof) put me back in the nvidia market... which im sure is happening to a select few that had the W90.
Still trying to wait for my W90 to return before i pass judgement... but each day with the 9262 makes me favor it more... but that could be because I have had the 9262 in my possession longer than the W90. (even though I bought the 9262 about 2.5 weeks ago, and bought the W90 April 13th)
-
Looks like I can get the Sager at a pretty good price so I've given up on the W90, which I would have liked to have had.
-
dondadah88 Notebook Nobel Laureate
i would of like them also. but i'm glad that someone has the same system as me and prefers it over the w90 (at least for now. we have to see which one goes up for sale.).
-
So I take it there will be no more driver updates for the W90?
-
I doubt ASUS will release anymore driver updated for the W90. Graphics drivers or otherwise.
Has anyone tried driver heaven's mobility modder tool with the 9.6 drivers?
Has anyone tried the Windows 7 9.6 Beta Drivers in Windows 7 with both cards flashed to master? -
-
-
dondadah88 Notebook Nobel Laureate
i was going to also. i really was going to. i had w90 money. but there was so much stuff going on with it.
-
Yeah I'm pissed with ASUS. My W90 is on craigslist already. They should let you return this crap.
-
I only have a couple of gripes with the W90. I got the generic screen and the viewing angles aren't that great. My Q9000 ONLY overclocks to 2.59 stable (which I would be happy with if I didn't know people were getting 2.7 - 2.8) and I would have appreciated hardware accelerated audio. Other than that this thing is sweet. I'm playing everything on max with no issues.
Speaking of audio - go to the Realtek site and download the latest drivers. Makes a noticeable difference. -
We should all email ASUS, Ken @ Gentech and XOTICPC and let them know we really appreciate them screwing us all over. I know I am going to.
As for Win7 drivers, I will have 7 soon as it hits technet (I have a sub) and will have it on my other systems, and will try it on this and see what happens. -
The bold and underlined should be yelled at, not the others. What sense does it make to yell @ Ken if all he has been doing is trying to help with the issues.
In your eyes they would be wrong no matter what huh? Ken sells the W90 prior to anyone knowing they had issues, and then takes orders for those that could not get the notebook while it was in stock. Then finds out that there are GPU issues and tries to help with them... so 3 things could come of this...
1.) Ken ships the latest shipment to the people that ordered them and they receive them with the said GPU issues, and now you think its his fault that the item was faulty because he didnt check it before he shipped it out. Sad.
2.) Ken receives the new shipment of the notebooks and opens them and checks them to make sure they are ok, then ships them to the people that ordered them. Now you're pissed because the box was opened and the notebook has fingerprints on it. Sad.
3.) Ken receives the new shipment and does not ship to the people that ordered them because he thinks theres something wrong with them. Now you're pissed because you have been waiting for the laptop for so long... you probably would think he didnt have the thing in the first place and was trying to scam you. Sad.
Seriously... what sense does that make? How is it his fault?
Same goes for Xotic. They dont manufacture these things... it goes from ASUS, to their hands, then to your hands. Thats it. I understand your frustration with the issue. Im frustrated too... but the difference between me and you is im pointing the finger at the ones that deserve it, ASUS!!!! NO ONE ELSE... JUST ASUS!!!!
And on that note... im done with going back and forth on this.
For the record, Asus doesnt care that the thing has issues because they figure the warranty will take care of everything... not realizing that they are losing customers due to people having their $2500 investment out for RMA longer than in their possession or customer service/tech support not having a clue what is going on and just giving dipsh*t advice like, "You can solve your display issues by downloading the updated driver from the support website." (which is the same freakin driver that the system first shipped with.) or just not issuing refunds to those that are fed up with the issues of the laptop. -
And regarding your little list above, I never said anythng like that, dont know where you got it. My whole issue has been they have been knowingly selling defective products, just like ASUS, which you seem to have no problem with. They could have verry easilly have said I am not going to sell these laptops with these KNOWN issues.
