off topic:
my picture looks bad***
on topic what ichime said. -
Ran CPU test and GPU test - 15 mins like you guys.
88C peek on the HD4850 Mobility (for 1 minute in total before it shrank again)
66.8 C on core 1 - 2 - 4
68 C on core 3 (this core always fluxuates above the rest :/)
75C on the northbridge which is nominal concidering realtime 100% (wprime1024) kicks it to 72C so im happy with this.
Seems the 4850 is ok for power and heat...for now lol. -
dondadah88 Notebook Nobel Laureate
your fine then. i like the cooling of the msi.
-
Im just amazed at what a single fan is capable of
This is from MSI' web, ive lost my camera so i cant get any of the inside, but they are exact -
dondadah88 Notebook Nobel Laureate
that's a serious single fan then. i have 3 fans in mine and i can keep the heat down(4 when i sli it. lol.)
http://www.anandtech.com/GalleryImage.aspx?id=3713 -
Ahhh Crazeh 4 fans :S thats bonkers, each component gets there own breeze
Im thinking of modding in a GPU fan i have, just to go cooler on the GPU. -
dondadah88 Notebook Nobel Laureate
Lol. yeah each gpu gets there own. the cpu, ram, NB, SB, share two fans.
this is a better pic

Im suprised micro liquid coolers dont exist yet with all of them fans.
Im quite suprised they didnt use more heatpipes though to be honest, they could have a really good circulation (for whatever compound that sits in the heatpipe) that should work quite effectively.
Is it loud?
There is one huge annoying thing about my machine.... -
dondadah88 Notebook Nobel Laureate
not at all which i'm surprised. my whitebook with two fans was much much louder then this. (but not as cool
)
what annoys you about yours. or is it the fan. I thoughtit was quite. -
Edit: never mind I just saw the title of the pic. -
Look what they did, the cut out is 1/3 of the total area of the fan intake :S
Why didnt they cut the whole area out? lol -
OK i noticed this, does anyone else have the same....?
QX9300 with 6GB ram = 3.15 max cpu fsb
QX9300 with 12Gb ram = 2.92 max cpu fsb -
dondadah88 Notebook Nobel Laureate
take out a stick of ram and bring it to 46b and see what happens.
also I notice with the whitebook(since voltage was holding it back.) did the same. -

Help please............. I just received my W90VP laptop back from RMA service - and am still getting a score of 8900 on 3DMark06 with the setup in overclocking/power mode. I called their tech service number again........... and they said that they are looking into it. I do not have a crossfire enable button on the ATI CCC - should I? Device manager is indicating two cards though. The tech said that I must not have the crossfire driver installed - sounds like bullsh&t to me? They will get back to me when they have it figured out. Yeah right! I just went two weeks without this brick so they could correct the crossfire issue as well as multiple crashes to blue screen, mouse and sound not working when hard booting, etc... The paperwork I got back with the laptop from service center says they got 10460+ on 3D Mark. Corrected issues by updating BIOS and reimaged (?) unit. I thought the BIOS update only corrected one issue that I actually wasn't having. These clowns didn't do anything - nothing was corrected/fixed. The tech this morning had me again pull battery, reset, etc... reload software to get the mouse and sound to initialize again - that fix didn't last the last time they walked me through it to correct the same problem. Not happy with their service or this laptop so far. Can someone please tell me what the situation is with the crossfire setup on this laptop - should I see crossfire in the ATI CCC? Should I demand another RMA to correct the crossfire issue/low score? Are they (tech support) playing games with me or are they just inept? Oh, and my laptop went to Indiana for repair - came back with the top all scratched too - pricks! Would not recommend sending yours their should you need to RMA. I will request their US headquarters location if I have to send it back again. What a bunch of crap.
-
Hmm very odd, i would wait a bit more for some of the w90 members, more specifically, viscious should be able to help you with this problem alot as he knows how to deal with the present crossfire issues.
Out of the box though, a signel 4870 should be hitting over 10k in 3dmark. -
depends on the processor, if it's a Q9000, that 8900 score sounds about right. Also, are you (suribachiae21) able to detect the 2nd video card in your device manager? And what are you getting for Vantage scores? because another possibility could be the CPU not returning to standard clocks and running on power save mode (1.6ghz).
-
Not for a 4870? I get 10k out of the box with the 4850 and q9000.
-
really? guess I'm wrong about that. Could be a processor issue with this guy, but let's wait till we get more info on his system.
-
I have the T9600 CPU
Not familiar with vantage
The device manager shows two HD 4870's
CPU is set at high performance as indicated when clicking on the battery icon
Had the over clocking option on in turbo gear -
-
I installed GPU-Z it is indicating ATI xfire is enabled however also says unsure on Vista 64
-
hmm, could be a driver issue, but then again, Asus said they got 10.4k, when it should be getting in the high 13k range. Have you tried Vicious' guide yet?
-
Yeah, the GPU should definately be capable ichime, i think 7-8k would be single gpu for vantage prehaps, im not too sure.
Do you think it could be a temperature problem? I hear ATI has card downclock sometimes. -
dondadah88 Notebook Nobel Laureate
I know with the quad at 1.5ghz i scored 8500. and the dual and one gpu, it's 8500. so that is one gpu.
and forgive me for my bad spelling. I just type and reply. no corrections. -
Haha, me too, i also know low power could be the cause of this, but then so could overheat if its downclocking itself.
-
-
No, I was hoping to resolve the issue through ASUS support, if it is indeed a hardware/driver/software problem before attempting to "tweak" the system using external methods - shouldn't have to do that. ASUS marketed this laptop stating it can obtain a 16000 score, I expect them to make it happen or refund.
This whole lack of ATI driver support as well as other nagging issues with this particular model laptop is rediculous coming from a well known large manufacturer. Seems either their techs are morons or they have been instructed to act as if they are totally unaware that this model is a brick. How long have we all been led along about the new upcoming video driver which will be released at any moment, its in final development/testing - a couple of months now I believe.
This laptop seemed to be a great bargain for what was described to be under its hood, too bad they didn't check to see if the thing worked as designed. Wonder who pulled the plug so quickly on this model - Newegg or Asus? Appreciate everyone's input. -
hmm...well, they said they only updated the BIOS and reimaged the drive, which wouldn't solve the issue seeing as it is a GPU related one. Do your scores change when you use overclocking? And what temperatures are you getting for each GPU? (you can check this in Ati overdrive or in the BIOS). This could be telling of the problem as it can tell a few things (i.e, fault GPU, poor application of thermal paste, etc.).
If anything, they should have replaced the GPUs rather than update the BIOS. The feedback on Newegg.com for these models suggest that things improve a lot after RMAing when they replace the GPUs... -
Does anyone know if the OCZ ddr3 1066Mhz new RAM is really working on the W90 as they advertised? or even the new kingston DDR2 1066Mhz designed for mac, because if the feedbacks are any good i might resell my "almost " new 12Gb and buy any of those...
-
I forgot to mention I have the Q9000 cpu, no idea if that makes much difference from the T9600 cpu. -
-
I've been thinking, Asus has my W90 for a month now. At what point do I have some recourse or can cry foul? I mean what if they keep it for 6 months or a year (hypothetical)? To me even 2 months would be unacceptable and it won't be long until I'm there.
Seems to me that at some currently unknown point in time I could force them to do *something* such as replacement or refund.
Any thoughts? -

I wouldn't be upset as long as the replacement works 100%, if you get back a bad unit thats when I would start to get irritated. -

Quick question and sorry if i missed it in the threads, but I couldn't find it.....I have the W90VP-X2, I didn't see the need to spend the money on another hard drive and Blu-Ray since i have a brand new hard drive the same as the first in the system that I bought for my Travelmate 8204 that the cooling fan decided to die out, so anyways I put in the second drive, my question being is it worth redoing my computer to run in the raid config? and would it be as simple as putting the drives in raid through bios and then using the restore disk? Or would I have more problems since my restore disk might not be set for my system being raid since it purchased the X2 version of the W90???? Any help would be appreciated.
-
You shouldn't have any problems setting it up in RAID -- setting up mine was a cinch. Just turn RAID on in BIOS, set up the array in the config screen (CTRL+I), then run the recovery disk.
-
Anyone have any dealings with Newegg? The W90VP-A1 isn't available at any other dealers here in Canada.
-
Thanks again -
RAID0 (striping):
Adv: larger R/W speeds. Not double as you might theoretically expect, and I think some people noticed it was not really that significant in real life.
Disadv: reduced reliability. Whereas before if one HDD failed you would have lost only the data on that HDD, now you would lose ALL the data. In mathematical terms, the probability of failure increases to roughly double. So: have recent backups!
RAID1:
Adv: Increased reliability. If one harddisk fails, you lose no data. The probability of a failure resulting in data loss (i.e., both HDDs failing at the same time) is not exactly reduced to half, because the HDDs are in physical proximity (heat etc.) so their probabilities of failure are correlated. Even more so if they come from the same batch at the factory. But it is significantly reduced nevertheless.
Disadv: Because 2nd HDD is just a copy of the 1st, you lose the capacity of 1 HDD. -

I just talked to my tech rep at Asus since I need to RMA my G1s -- He told me there are beta drivers for the W90 out now that fix all the gaming issues . He said he would email me with more information.. He said no flashing of bios involved just simple driver download for the 4870's.
Does anyone know what hes talking about? Sorry if its in this thread somewhere...
Again, it has nothing to do with Viciousx's master/slave flashing at all but a beta driver that has the fix for low fps and game crashes.
thanks in advance ~
