How much is it from newegg? I would much recommend going through ken @ gentech. thats where I got mine from.

heaven forbid you did have any issues ken can take care of you, plus you can get the full fledged A1 model.

nvm I checked, $2,350 @ the egg for the X2
and its $2,419 @ gentech for the A1 - Link

The differences being the 2nd hdd on the a1 and the blueray drive, thats easily worth the $70 difference (even without the upgrade the service is worth it) but I see gentech has none in stock :(

You may want to call them and see if they have some coming in soon, if you have followed this thread you will have seen both many people exclaim how great gentech and its service is, and how bad newegg and its service was.

I would get it from gentech but they only have the A1 model and it's not in stock and a few pages back multiple people said they called in and were told that they were not going to get any new ones in :/ Newegg is the last carrier of the W90, and I think once the X2's all go there wont be any more to be had

Sucks, it was 2199 on newegg 2 weeks ago but I didn't have enough cash plus I was still deciding

Well as I said 500 posts ago, the W90 is dying, Im glad I got rid of mine, Until ATI starts bringing out laptop driver like Nvidia I will always stick with Nvidia. I dont know what was screwed up in the making if these laptops but they are a flop I will never forget

Nvidia just recently started doing the laptop drivers, before that it was all community moded.

Even if ATI did make mobile drivers its not like they would work on the W90 due to its odd setup. Otherwise it would just be a 30 second ordeal with mobility modder like it is for other laptops with ATI cards.

True Nvidia just started that, but its started, and thats more than ATI can say. Blame Asus then, they scared me away from ATI and I wont go back unless I see something change. BTW Vic, Im still messing with that article, I just cant get it simple enough yet still filling in all the details. Ill get it to you sooner or later.

Well I pretty sure sometime down the road (I really do hope soon) that ATI will start facing the fact that gameing lappys are a big market that is really profittable than the desktop counter parts. But anyway , I probally gonna turn into a lanbox guy later on ....(had one of those TT Lanbox Lite laying around here ...so might as well put it to good use lol)

I can say from my experience with ASUS they are hands down the best computer company I have dealt with ever and I have owned a lot of different "commercial" brands (Dell, IBM, Hp/Compaq, Toshiba, etc.) and dealt with each ones Tech and Customer Service Departments and ASUS has been head and sholders above the competition.

Now while I am sure "results may vary", but for me ASUS has been a breath of fresh air. Always helpfull, never rude and prompt. I had three seperate repairs each one was sent overnight each way (on their dime) and I never waited more than a week to either have it fixed or replaced. Both Customer Service and Tech kept me up to speed on the progress of my laptops either via email or phone as I had requested.

Even with all the "issues" I had with my W90, I was not hesitant to buy another ASUS product just because I knew that if I had a problem I would be taken care of and not considered an annoyance like so many other companies who are more about selling and forgetting then selling and servicing.

***EDIT folks lately have been making a lot of noise about the AW's however looking over their warranty information I can find references to them being willing to pay both ways for warranty repairs however they make no mention/claims as to the speed. I would guess they are not going to do it "overnight" so at minimum you are going to have a much longer time "without" your laptop if in fact it needs to go back to AW just based on their choice of carrier and method (regular ground). Its no secret that ASUS ships overnight for repairs and they are proud of being able to offer it by making it something that is highlighted in thier Ads.

You say Asus has great customer service? What kind of service is releasing a notebook that was quite obviously premature. And what kind of service is promising new drivers and never delivering.

If you UPGRADE to Win7 rather than doing a clean install you will have zero driver issues except for the video cards. Following Vicious's guide completely resolves that issue.

    See above!

See above, but anyway the latest drivers are available on the Realtek site and they are a noticeable improvement over the stock ones.

Hey Scubahalo, what drivers are you specifically using? Can you provide a link to the download area of the Realtek site or let me know exactly what ones worked. I downloaded and installed a new driver (there are many to choose from) but I lost my sound after doing that and went back to my asus cd to reinstall stock drivers.

Asus is definitely not "cheap." Though they did possibly jump the gun on this system before fully QA'ing it, anxious to put out the best gaming system for the time I guess.

If it makes you feel better, you can buy the more expensive equipment and have the same or completely different issues... at least you paid more for it.

Can everyone stop trying to infect people with their bitterness... how about we start working on some solutions to the problems instead of whining. Not everyone has a bad W90... let get some comparisons between the working and problematic ones.

My W90 has been working flawlessly as well. The only thing I'm waiting for is a new driver release from ASUS or a community modded install for the 9.6 Catalyst drivers. Other than that, my blanking screen has seemed to fix itself, although I still might RMA just to be safe. I've been cruising along with all my games and apps just so smoothly, and I'm really satisfied.

EDIT: Also, please don't come to our forum to compare your $3000+ laptop to our W90s, you have to realize how unintelligent the comparison is.

Check the "I accept" box then click "next". It's the Vista/Win7 driver (in blue). Either the WinZip or executable file. There's a brand new one up.

QFT. I don't go to AW forums gloating how I got a laptop with similar performance for $600+ cheaper... with a better warranty and screen. And have you ever dealt with Dell's "VIP" customer service? Holy sh$t they're bad. I still have an awful taste in my mouth from an experience with an XPS.

For the record, mine has been running perfectly for two months now. Not one BSOD or failure of any sort, knock on wood.

Now let's focus on getting those 9.7 (just released) drivers working...

That's what they told me, and I thought the same thing. Not sure why they would lie, considering I was asking them if they would get more because I was thinking of switching my order to one instead of the G71GX-A1. The W90 is more expensive, so they'd make more money out it.

I also agree about more postive posting, I realize people with no issues don't have as much of a reason to search the forums for similar issues and fixes if they have a good machine.

Thanks Scubahalo, I'm downloading it now. I'll see how it works for me.

Regarding this whole AW vs. Asus vs. Sager, and so on and so on debate, let's just focus on actually discussing the Asus W90 not a constant comparison and complaining about it and how much better everything else is. I had to RMA mine due to a VGA card and bad screen however it has been great since. My only complaints have to do with lack of driver support (which Vic helped us deal with) and Vista. I love this computer, it's a great machine for a great price. Anyways, Asus support was great, actually fluent in English (I'm sure others have experiences with companies whose tech support barely can speak English) and very helpful. I would buy Asus again.

    My W90 rocks!

On a different note... Has anyone taken advantage of or have any advise on the eSata drive capabilities with the W90?

I am looking for a fast external drive but I haven't done a lot of research into eSata.

I'm typing this from an Asus W90 now. I'm just testing the internet and the whole white screen problem first. Haven't installed VGA drivers yet, so I'll give you my impressions later on, though it's kinda hard to adjust to the keyboard on this thing ;)

the w90 has been discontinued. my lawyer called trying to get answers for me. the asus rep said the w90 had too many law suits against the w90 that they figured it would be better to stop making it and move on then to keep producing them and have errors. as to fitting another graphics card, it would have to be fully user custom. which voids the 2 year warranty. someone here going to put their w90 up for lab rat tests? i wouldn't do it. something goes wrong and there goes $$$.

if you're going to try to upgrade the gpus, you're safer and better off selling and buying something else. there will not be a newer driver release for the w90 gpus. at least not for vista. asus tech confirmed this. i'm still hoping that they will release a gpu driver for win 7. but doesn't seem so either. they'll just say the w90 doesn't support win 7.

asus isn't cheap quality. but other high end laptops aren't either. i'm just disappointed that it has trouble playing newer games.(prototype so far) i've got some new games to run tests on as soon as i get my RMA back. if even 1 game doesn't play flawlessy, it's going bye bye.

Asus guaranteed my laptop being here this Saturday at the latest. seeing that the status is still "under repair", and have not yet told me the parts that were replaced, i would not be surprised if it didn't get shipped out tomorrow. they'll just make up some other excuse for failing to achieve what they said they would do again and again. it has been 4 business days since they received parts for my laptop. it's been 2 weeks since they received my laptop. it doesn't take more than 5 hours to replace parts and reboot.

gaming laptop means it plays every game out there today and for the next year or so. and it should play them rather well. i will test prototype again when i get the w90 back. if it doesn't play well, i'll let it slide because it favors nvidia. but other games like bionic commando better play maxed out no problem. it's embarrassing to have a newer gaming laptop that doesn't run newer games as good as an older laptop.

my m1730 8800m gtx gpu drivers were from 2007, yet it ran every game in 2008 and 2009 flawlessly.(except for crysis/warhead) i don't want to low ball w90 owners, but the w90 is dying. dying fast. only 6 months and it's already discontinued. that means something. i should have bought the m17x from bestbuy for $2200. performance is about the same with the 260m sli and could always upgrade parts whenever.

I just want to say that I recently bought this notebook(X2 model) from Newegg and I have been very happy it. I have been using it now for 2 weeks and have not seen any signs of the problems some people on this forum have mentioned. Thanks to Vicious’s guide this I got this thing is running extremely fast. I also must say my experience with Newegg went pretty good. I ordered the notebook on a Monday did the standard 3 day shipping and received it on Thursday of the same week.

I do have a question about how high I should let the temperatures for the CPU and GPU get. Using Vicious’s guide I was able to get the CPU to 2.7 ghz and run the full Wprime test with no errors. The core temps on the CPU got as hot as 68c. Is this temperature ok for the q9000 chip to get to or should I lower the speeds. I have the same question for the graphics cards temperature. I currently have their speeds clocked to 600/900. I ran the Resident Evil variable benchmark 4 times in a row to try and put stress on the cards and their max temp got to 82c. Yesterday I played Warhammer online for a little over an hour and the max temp on the cards got to 80c. I alt tabbed a couple of times through out the gamming session to check the temperature and it looks like they were staying around 73c. I also had the CPU at 2.7 ghz during this session and the hottest it got was 62c and for most part stayed around 55c- 58c. What is the highest temperature the CPU and graphics cards can get to without causing any damage to them?

more updates for you guys. just talked to asus. my guarantee laptop arrival this saturday is now bumped to next thursday. man it keeps getting better. their policy has changed again. the rep said that after asus recieves the parts it will take up to 5 days to install parts. then it will take 4 more days before it is shipped out. this is ridiculous. how was everyone else's RMA? anyone not get their laptop back for 3 weeks? first it was 1-2 business days for repair. then 1-2 business days for repairs after receiving parts. now it's 5 days after receiving parts and 4 more days before shipping. why don't they just tell me that i'll never see it again and that i wasted my $2200. looks like i'm not going to call my lawyer. I'm gona have to set up a time for a real whooping law suit. i'll keep you guys posted.

    Are these your Lawyers?

    J/K I couldn't resist.

Again, sorry your having issues. Most have had positive results with ASUS RMA's including myself. I did have to wait a while as I mentioned in an earlier post when they didn't have screens in stock. I guess if a company has a 99% customer satisfaction rating, it doesnt help if you are in the other 1%

Hope you get it sorted out. BTW, I play prototype on mine maxed out without issue with the 9.4 drivers.

    Sorry about your luck mazdaspeed6.

If any Canadians out there are thinking about buying one of these, I just saw that newegg.ca has the W90 on sale for $2,249.00 CDN. That's $200 cheaper than what I spent a month and a half ago, what a steal! Try configuring an m17x with the same specs and you are at least $1,200 more than that!

Even though there's a chance of having to RMA it for screen and vga issues, my experience with Asus Canada was great, very fast turnaround and fixed perfectly.

really? no lag when running around? or when you are buy the park with the brown trees? i gotta run it again when i get mine back. just talked to the "lawyer", his name is tom by the way. he said that we should wait until the laptop is returned to me, and if there are still issues, then we can file a law suit, otherwise we have a hard case against a powerful company. yea, i thought he might say that. w90 is still a good laptop, just wish i wasn't part of that 1% that gets bad service.

why get a new one just to find out that you have to RMA it back and end up waiting 2 weeks for it. I'll sell you mine for $2300. it's practically brand new. not a scratch. comes with 2 hard drives in raid 0 and a blu ray drive and everything else included. I only had it for 4 days. asus has had my laptop longer than i've had it. you won't find a better deal. it will cost you $2500 to have the same setup i have, and you might have to RMA it. i would say 20% chance a new one will be RMAed. if you change your mind let me know.

It would be a damn shame about the w90 being discontinued if true. Asus really had something there selling a top-end gaming laptop at a pretty reasonable price. In any respect, I'm glad I got one while they were available.

For the guy who said his lawyer called and got info... I'm a little doubtful on this one as ANY company's CS will direct all inquiries with a legal dispute or background directly to the L&L department without answering answering further questions. This is a cardinal rule of call service. Try it. Call Asus and say you are representing so and so -- they will take your number and a legal rep will call you back that or the next day and politely ask for an official statement of intent.

With whom did your lawyer speak? When you call Asus support, believe me, the poor tech on the other end has little-no knowledge of what production management is doing.

i dont know who my lawyer talked to. i don't ask him questions when he gives me answers. and yes, i believe someone called him back a few hours later. if anyone was to call and ask questions, every asus rep would just say, i can't give out that info. i don't think the w90 is being produced anymore. there really isn't any way to find out for sure. asus likes to say one thing, then do another.(sometimes only) i don't even think asus has decided if they are going to cancel or not.

Both gentec and xoticpc have told me in emails that they will be taking down the w90 off their pages because Asus has discontinued the model. However, i'm not sure it has to do with issues they've had with it, albeit they haven't helped. I read a review of one dated in early May, and they said that despite having just recieved their review laptop, that Asus told them that the W90 was nearing its EOL. The editor was guessing that it was a test run for asus to see how they would fair trying to make a top of the line machine or something along those lines.

I guess that makes the W90 current W90 owners, owners of a rare and nice collectors item :D

Im really happy with mine, its doing its work horse duty without any complaints.

::Yells at W90 overclock to 2.7ghz and go encode me some more videos NOW!!::

I also got my Wiimote hack stuff working the other day, so now I can control my W90 from across the room with my Wiimote or play games with it.

Also I talked about this before, anybody that has 2d issues like the lines or a crash, I know this is not a fix but its a work around that I came up with that will greatly if not completly reduce the chance of a crash happening.

    <object width='853' height='505'>

    <embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/nqiE-uwHNzs&hl=en&fs=1&rel=0&hd=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width='853' height='505'></object>

Basically I am always listening to music while on my laptop, having that running in the background keeps the laptop in 3d clocks on the video card taking away the risk of a 2d crash incident.

I monitored the clocks some of the presets do use 2dclocks though as I guess they are not intensive enough for 3d.

There is no lag it just wont record without lag.
