32bit os i think sometimes takes into account your video memory as total system memory, i found another ORB score which shows 2816
He's running 32bit OS as well which is where i figured that whacky number came from![]()

nice find Quad..
-
yeah, but that's xp.
high settings @ 1680x1050
extreme@1920x1080
madmech's
-
Ya thats why in the link i put hes a running a 32bit OS and didnt specify which one ,just pointing more to the fact that is a 32 thing overall be it vista/Xp .
-
ah, gotcha quad. makes sense.
-
It shows a 0 because you're using a modified Vantage settings configuration, it doesn't and can't give you a Vantage score.
1800 MHz is the effective memory clock of 900 MHz GDDR3.
You're really going to have to run at 1680x1050 to get any kind of useful result because the W90 is 1080p, johnksss and every other internet benchmark result is 1920x1200. -
OK, so are you saying that you would like me to run another test at different settings? I can do that if you would like.
-
that's what i was thinking. on all the above.
where ya been at bill? working?
yep, but only do the high settings as is. click high and run it. you dont have to run the last 6 test though, but you have to run the first 4 or it wont record. -
Work, been out, reading, etc.
My technology interests comes and goes in waves.
-
OK, so here are the scores re-done.
One is with no OC at all. One is with no ASUS OC but ATI Overdrive enabled and one is with all OC turned on.
No Over Clocking at all:
No ASUS but ATI on:
All Over Clocking on:

Hi everone. Im looking into purchasing the ASUS w90 but just had a question. The video cards. Are they 1gb each of vram or 1gb TOTAL. Newegg says 1gb and a site with w90 benchmarks says 2gb. Thanks in advance. BTW cant wait til newegg gets them back in stock
-
so those are dual 4850's ran in that picture?
2 separate cards at 512 per card.
seems like over clocking was making things a bit worse... -
1gb. Still not bad for the price. I was so looking into the Sony Vaio AW290 with the same GINORMOUS 18.4" screen and then was so close into ordering the alienware m17. But neither can touch the dual 4870's in the w90.
-
lol the m17 is getting true 4870 so asus w90 cant touch those

Problem: you can probably get two W90's from asus for the price of the 1 from AW.... -
HAHA...i gotta admint though, the alienware looks fierce. Too bad i cant afford it. I guess having a 12LB frying pan on my lap wont be too bad
-
5 hours straight spent reading this..... 4 in the morning and I
ll go get some sleep, but CAN"T decide buy it or not, plus newegg is out of stock again, and as it looks right now, probably not getting any in soon. Guys rig looks like a nice buy,but what is the score so far, how many had to RMA??? I'm torn....
Oh and yeah I'm new to posting here, but been radinf these forums since my first Asus ..... -

Until I actually see Alienware delivering M17's with 4870x2 GDDR5, it is all FUD.
Personally, I think they will phase out the M17x, move the M17 down the line into mid performance and rebadge a OEM SLI/Xfire model somewhere else.
I mean, I would LOVE a 17" 840 form factor dual Xfire 4870 GDDR5's, but I just get the funny feeling I get when AW promises something and for some reason I am compelled to press my back up against the nearest wall to protect myself. -
If you buy one from Newegg when they get back in stock you should be ok, it was only the first and some of the second batches that people had problems with. If your BIOS has a date of 2/25/09 or later, you should be fine. I have had mine for 5 days now and not one problem. Since I have had no problems, now I am going to start to delete the software I don't want, tweak Vista, add a Blu-ray DVD and a second HD.
-
Oooh, I want Alienware to completely discontinue GPU upgrade support for the M17 and introduce like a m17z
Just want to see the look on all those who purchased a m17 looking for an upgrade to 4870s
(sarcasm) -
And how are you planning to see their looks over the internet? Gunna hack their webcams?
Little Known Secret: Hidden in the M17's Facial Recognition software there's code to spot nerd-rage and send a warning back to AW-HQ.

Miss Malevolent Notebook Consultant
I have a question...I saw in a video about this machine that it would hold 12MB of RAM...true?
-
Miss Malevolent Notebook Consultant
Yeah cause the Rep said in the video 12...so you're saying the bios is locked at 6 though? -
Its a decent chunk of change to go tossing 3x4gig sticks in there just to say it i tried it and it works

or if you buy it this way and get someone to go in half on a third its a little more reasonable.

Ok so I am on the brink of getting a laptop, between the W90 and the M17. I have read most of the 246 pages on this thread and there are a few benchmarks for this beast out now. My issue is I was never a benchmark person so I am not really sure what I am looking at. Can someone help me out with this . . . I will be playing Fallout 3 and (hopefully) GTA 4 while overseas then WoW when I get home. Can someone put some numbers up comparing the 2, like the same benchmark for both machines, or similar benches for both so I know how different they are. I am hesitant in getting the M17 cause I have been burned from AW before with their "world's first notebook with upgradable graphics" that was never upgraded! So, anyway, if anyone can help me out I would appreciate it. My only concern for the Asus, is I will have limited access to download updates . . .
-
Lol i was not even paying attention to the 6400/5300 specs on them, more just the insane prices which seem to close on both fronts
-
I explained everything in detail as well as outlined the issues experienced on this forum. They said that they are going to try and update the BIOS and track down the video errors. They have to justify and "show their work" to enable a replacement so I think that's what's happening now.
I will let you know when I hear anything new. -
Hello everyone,
This is my first post but i've been following this thread from the start. Even though i decided a while back to go with the A1(or the mystery model) when it becomes available in a few weeks, I feel like i've been riding the W90 rollercoaster of emotions with you guys. I just wanted to thank all of you for all your insite and hard work that definately made me a smarter laptop consumer.
Would anyone know if there will be any Canadian companies selling the A1 ?
Thanks again !! -
i sure hope you already download all your games and benchmarking tools so all you have to do is load her up
-
Lol thats why i was hoping he was getting it to day
but tomorrow will suffice.
-
Yes. I mean it's not at all surprising based on the clocks (Desktop 4850's have an extra 93 MHz on the memory and 75 MHz on the core compared to these Crossfire "4870's"), but it's still rather disappointing.
-
They just called me and they are going to DOA it. Should have the new one soon.
-
Wow that was fast > Congrats
.
-
let me think about that for a moment....ummm...NO!
im sure i remember you asking for loads of benchmarks in the ocz section so get to benchmarking..lol( and even if you didn't.im saying you did.
)
nice!
yeah, im still thinking it was an oki-doke there. they pulled a fast one. them are 4850's(sorry if all of the ati community gets mad, but it's what im thinking)
4850 over clocked to 4870
4870 under clocked to 4850
4870 with gddr5 but released with gddr3
4850 with the ability to run gddr5 but released with gddr3
and the list goes on...i wonder what the real facts are...
give him plenty of time to hear our mouths for another 24 hours..

I just called and spend another 1/2 hour of my life to find out that my DOA RMA won't be shipped out until the 23 or 24th. So I guess they opened your box first -=$tR|k3r=- as ours arrived same time same date! lol, I'm not hating on you
They do not have any in stock to send out to me. So now I get to wait another week. This whole trip with ASUS has been disgusting to me.
-
Anyone found any good solutions for a Blu-Ray Burner???
-
Brand new unit.
-
Naw, luck of the draw -=$tR|k3r=- thats the breaks
Yeah, a week won't kill me but man, I cannot believe all the BS trying to get a strait answer from ASUS. I don't want to bash them completely as I understand that I am just one case in many. But they really need to have better communication within their company. The old left hand doesn't know what the right hand is doing!
So I will lurk for another week and post when Humungo2 arrives.. -
still sitting on hold with asus tech =-/
so people have been able to use the bios update succesfully? -
They did not go into what might be the problem. He just called me and asked me if I wanted to just DOA it. They also asked me to bring in my box and stuff as I will be getting a new box entirly including mouse and backpack etc.
I am not going to ask any more question until I have the new unit in my hands. The fact that they only had it for about an hour before they offered a DOA speaks volumes. -
Yes, they are going to overnight ship.
-
well some guy sent me a bios update to email, flashed with it, and get pretty dots all over the screen
newegg finally wrote me back and told me to call asus and if they determine it to be defective they will exchange it.
how is it not defective ?
with the new bios update it sees 3gb ram, freezes on the post screen with nice pretty rainbow dots all over. and no i cant flash back to the previous version, as it freeze's on boot.
why oh why are they giving me such a hard time about it?
its like they dont understand what im saying and i dont know how to dumb it down anymore.
I CANT FLASH ANYTHING. IT FREEZES BEFORE THE BIOS FINISHES LOADING.
like what the hell dont they get
after i updated and called back, i got the same moronic indian guy who doesnt belong doing pc support. he said they sent me the wrong update and tehy will send the correct one tomarrow or the next day. ummm ok. thanks genious...... so i restated i would be unable to flash anything because it wont even POST (freezes when calculating memory) and he just said ok sir we will send you the updated correct version.
for sale: 2400 paperweight.
