Great question! If I knew that answer, I'd be seeing the pic.

Anyways, i am 1 of the future owner of the W90 so i have been following you guys since page 1.
I was going to get 1 off ebay but was to scare to get a problematic one so i will just wait for the A1.

I can feel the bitterness in your writings...

Oh, come on dude, I was joking...

Does anyone have a suggestion for a quality cooler for this beast?
I'm thinking this. -

I ordered the A1, so I have no experience with it yet, but I'm here in Iraq, and it gets a little warm in the summer when that time comes. I figure it's just a good precaution to take. Nothing wrong with it if you have teh moniez right? -
omfg, is there a cure for your stockholm-syndrome?
note2self: dont press read-button on strikers posts, had a good reason to put him on ignore. -
what is stockholm syndrom?

Stockholm Syndrome weird
There's a haiku for you about Stockholm Syndrome, or at least what I think it is before I go to Wikipedia and find out if I was right or wrong. -
So the NBR's review of W90 said the laptop had sub par 2.0 speakers
Computer Shopped said its got "robust" 4.1 speaker sound system?
Asus advert mentions clean and crispy 5.1 audio system?!?
NBR:

Asus:

I don't suppose Asus has 3 or more different variants of W90Vp?
-
Nah, some guys in this forum says it is good, and very loud
Some says it is pretty bad though... but one thing for sure, it will beat my TC4200 sound system
-
dondadah88 Notebook Nobel Laureate
Lol. can someone be more descriptive about the sound system.
if i were to make a 5.1 the top two will be tweeters, the middle two would be mid's, the bottom would be center, and then i'll try to make the sub play as much bass s it can and only bass. -
dondadah88 Notebook Nobel Laureate
i think e-wrecked got around this score with the x9100 and the 3870CF but his was heavily tweaked. what is that just out of the box. or did you tweak some stuff on your system? -
Would someone mind typing out the score since all that appears to me is a white box with a red X. Thanks
-
The score is 15226

Hey all. I was just about to order an OCZ DIY laptop when I ran across this thread. Can anybody tell me how upgradable this thing is? i.e. cpu, vid cards etc. Thanks!
-
guys, can you post pic of W90 with backcover opened?
I want to look at the hardware layout. -
Everything is upgradeable in it, hard drives ,ram ,cpu and if ASUS ever released new video cards and you could find a way to buy them and they were compatible etc etc, then those would be upgradeable as well .Keep in mind though upgrading your CPU and possibly video cards down the line would probably void your warranty, unlike the DIY OCZ. -
Thanks for the info. I'm sold.
-
sold to which one?
W90 or OCZ?
-
The W90. The OCZ would be a little cheaper. Tiger Direct has it for $1680 after rebate + cpu, HDD and RAM. It does have Blu-Ray but only 3870 cards. The W90 looks better and I don't really care about Blu-Ray all that much. I can always upgrade later anyway.
-
Then I suggest you to wait for the new batch.
-
No, this was with a pretty well stock system other than the CPU overclock.
I haven't really gotten around to tweaking it yet and I'd imagine playing with the video drivers could easily boost that score a bit. -
ok striker, i updated with your single card runs. have to wait till some of you guys say it's cool first or we get what we had a few pages back.... nonsense.

I Just Looked At His Score And It Is 15862. And At Quad, What Did You Decide On. I It The Whitebook. I'm Happy With It.
-
Havent decided yet mainly because i wanted to see some pricing of the M98. honestly im leaning more towards the W90 because it fits into what i want to spend on a machine and i get the itchy feeling the M98 is going to be a chunk of change more then the W . -
dondadah88 Notebook Nobel Laureate
Well My Two Cents Is That If Ocz Was Still Selling The White Book, To Get That. Remember The Whitebook Costs More Bebetre It Has Ddr3 Ram. A Better Screen And Higher Res. Warranty Isn't Affected With Hardware Changes. You Can Overclock In The Bios Which Is Better Them Any Software Overclock. If You Go Out The Battery Life Is Higher And More. But I'm On My Phone And My Fingers Are Killing Me. Lol.
-
Lol@typing on the phone
Not really interested in the whitebook TBH, i considered it awhile back though . Right now i have my eyes set on the 18.4 inch machines because i dont need it to be portable at all, just something i can move from room to room
.
-
performance/price ratio, Asus W90 is better than Arima W840-DI, yes?
-
actually, no
the whitebook is like 1800. if you can find one. -
hey guys, can you please give me a brief update?are new w90 still bad?
-
Roger. I didn't read through this whole thread but I thought the problems had been resolved. Anyway, I'm holding off on purchasing anything until the end of the month.
-
dondadah88 Notebook Nobel Laureate
Yes John There Is Some Places Were You Can Still Find A Whitecool But It's Hard. If You Are A Simple Dude That Can Really Care Less About Changing Parts And Just Want A Laptop That Will Last Period Then Go With The Asus.
-
BUT... Arima W840-DI use 3870 CFX, not 4870 CFX.
So i think the $400 price difference is justified as to upgrade the GPU.
I think...
And so, W90 vs W840 will be tied... in term of price/performance ratio.

I Still Have Yet To See This Asus Demolish My Benchmarks With My T9400 Stocked With There's Stocked Also. Excluding Crysis And Aa/af On Games.
btw New Cpu Is Coming Tomorrow. I Con't Wait. -
lol...Windows Vienna x64
yes. currently -
ummm, nope.
might as well say add 400 dollars more and get a d901c and call that even as well.
again no.
why, because the 4870's haven't even really beat out a 3870 as of yet. and this pertains to dual core mode only. perfect example. far cry 2. check the numbers. the 3870's still scored higher.
3dmark06 the 3870's still win.
vantagemark they did win
and quite a few games they are even or behind.
dmc4 they won, but waiting on them test to be re ran, because bob said that some where ran without aa and over clocked, but he posted them as being ran with aa.
edit: let me state this loud and clear. THIS IS BASED OFF OF CURRENT DRIVERS. ONCE DRIVERS MATURE HOPEFULLY THINGS GO UP FROM HERE!
all you have to do is run some test of your own when you get time ichime. -
dondadah88 Notebook Nobel Laureate
Lol. Yeah I Wanted To Sound Different. Windows 7 Is To Blah. But It Was Out Of Vienna Or Blackcomb. And Vienna Won.
did You Overclock You Quad? If So What Clock Speed. And Is It Stable? -
go ahead and get one quad. so we can run it through the ringer like every other laptop we all had..
i just can't make that purchase right now...not till i see what clevo has and is tested by the standard user. -
dondadah88 Notebook Nobel Laureate
I'm Trying To Keep Up But Being On A Phones Kills Me.
but Yeah When The Quad Comes I Can Still Benchmark In Dual Core Mode. But Yeah John, I Think That The Core And Clock Speed Is Way To Low To Outperform Anything.
edit: Yay! i'm on a desktop. but it can also be that the dual coreis holding this back. i remember somewhere reading ,where when you have crossfire or sli, you need more cores to utilize it better at very high res.
http://www.guru3d.com/article/core-i7-multigpu-sli-crossfire-game-performance-review/
there is a better article but i'm looking for it. -
Well, since you like to be technical, you're still wrong because if you want to base it off how many instances (benchmarks and games) that the OCZ accels in vs how many the W90 accels in, 1) the W90 does better in more games and 2) the OCZ system you are comparing the W90 to still costs more. Unless you're buying a used system from a good friend, you're not going to find a Whitebook with a T9600 for $1800.
And I did run some games that have been tested on the W90 thus far. Whether it's running on a single card or not, this system is beating me in Grid, Bioshock and WiC. I'm beating it apparently in UT3 and Far Cry 2.
Also, you of all people should know that 3dmark06 doesn't truly measure GPU performance, lol -
rjtech had it for about 1650 so add a t9600 and that puts it at what 1900 or so. nice try though. (this was before they took it off their site)
a 3870 should not be beating a brand new 4800 series card at anything.
tell it to asus who now uses it to market their w90vp and so on..
and to the many people who bought because of a 3dmark score..whether they choose to own up to it or not.
i already mentioned it grabbed my attention when it first surface.
so im owning up.
