Esp for bad advertisement, they have it right in there policy that description listings are not there problem and that they are required to do nothing about it.

You could always lower the db settings for all the regular speakers but keep the sub high. Then to get the same volume from the speakers, you'd have to crank the sound up higher, and the sub would be boosted. Artificially enhanced bass I guess, but it could help.

I don't think the sub actually produces any real bass frequencies per-say. A driver of it's limited size just can't do that.

In fact I'd agree that the overall sound of the W90 is kind of hollow.
I'm not sure why the Computer Shopper review gives the W90's sound system such high marks? I would say it's OK for a laptop, but nothing special.

Now plug in a set of headphones and things do get a lot better.
Still it's nowhere close to the Auzentec Prelude in my desktop PC. (But that's to be expected).

    Hi

I wanted to know if the cards could be upgraded at a later date.
I see the questions had been asked before but no one's fully answered them.
    Correct me if i'm wrong.

Well since DDR5 cards only exist on paper at this point no one knows .

In the future if ASUS sells the W90 with DDR5 cards and its using the same motherboard and same connectors etc, then sure you could upgrade, because the cards do come right out of the machine. The hardest part will be finding a way to order said cards when the time comes, but im sure it will be possible, at what cost, again no one knows.

So, this rep from Asus.. is he just here to say hi and make an appearance? Or, is he here for a good reason? Good to know a Rep showed up.. but we also had RyderOCZ show up in the OCZ forum and he never really contributed much.. Anyhow, just hoping this is different.

    Thanks for your response Quad.

I really want to get one but being in the UK we're being Royally shafted by Asus in terms of what we're getting for what we're expected to pay.
In truth all major companies do it.

Anyway i was thinking of ordering an A1 from a resller in the US that will ship to the UK.....it appears that ordering from the US i get a better spec'd system and even with shipping and duty charges it works out cheaper than the UK version.

    does anyone know this company?

lol that's because the OCZ forums were akin to a mass of unruly people brandishing pitchforks at anything OCZ (the whole driver issue). But that's not just contained to OCZ - happens in other forums . Justin and a small handful of other resellers are the only exception..most get eaten up and chewed up by the forums ;).

So with my w90, I get an occasional screen glitch that turns everything into white/blue vertical lines covering the entire display, which was what I was experiencing before I RMA'd. The laptop I got sent back had the new BIOS which I assume was the only change/fix they did. I wonder if this screen glitching issue is hardware related or software/driver/bios based... I'm not sure if it only occurs once it wakes up from sleep either, cuz it immediately occurred within a minute or two of web browsing after I woke it up.

*ahem* Something vendors need to understand is that consumers appreciate answers. And, those answers shouldn't be fabricated or indirect. If someone asks a yes or no question, they don't expect the answer "maybe". It just doesn't fit. Smoke and mirrors will never solve problems.. only direct assessment and involvement will resolve an issue. Anyhow, not gonna beat that horse.. I think it already got turned into Elmers Glue.

Now, in this case, Asus is a different beast. They are known as a computer retailer..not a computer importing scheme for money laundering and outsourcing(low blow, whatever). Asus will make things right, and I assure you they won't be throwing their hands in the air cause of frustration. And if they do, it will be followed by a comment such as.. "We will fix this immediately, once we smoke a cigarette to calm down"(the only problem solving smoke). Anyhow, welcome to the forum. We all look forward to your goodwill and assistance. :)

I know man.. I need to find a home. Well, I'm finally back to work and yea.. once I get ahead on cash I'll be picking something up and calling a new forum my home. In the meantime, this is good for me to see what's happening on the good side, and the bad side of all the other rigs. Tell ya what tho, I think I was addicted to benchmarks. No lie - lol. It's all I did! I mean, not ALL, but really..mostly.

Theres no hardcore testers amongst the owners that have these machines . They buy them, run a few games, benchmarks etc then back to there normal lives or MMOs what have you . One of us needs to take the plunge and im sure it will be me first as i am ready to buy . I saw some pricing for the M98 and while the place that is preordering them is clearly not from this planet when it comes to pricing, if that is any indication of of how much, i know ill be getting a W90.

but umm...they are still only 3870's and 4870's should be killing them right?
i don't see any pictures of it so it's up for speculation... :D

ok, so i went to eurocom and checked...thing is like $4200 usd with the a second vga and a qx9300
edit: never mind, their pricing page is still jacked up. they have the same price for a hd $303 bucks

also i hear the gtx280m is to cost about 430 bucks and the gtx260m to cost about 360 bucks. if that is so..euro is trying to make a killing fast.

Kevin's review is frustrating the hell out of me because he insists these cards can address 1GB of memory, when it's simply not how CrossfireX works.

He also insists it's an X2 card and not 2 separate boards.

I just want to say "What the **** dude, we hammered all this out weeks ago in the user lounge, get your **** together".

Lol ya man my side almost split in two when i saw the pricing .

Sad part is its only 592 to upgrade to a Qx9300 which is one heck of a deal for a oem CPU so there pricing is all over the map .

Sadly i get the feeling there not going to be far off from what Xotic may want except they want $400 for harddrives lol and $800 for ram . :D

seen that too and did your famous "face palm slap" :D

if that was the case, best believe it's an es. or one of the es versions that don't show. oem pricing starts @ 1k for 1000 cpu's. so not sure what euro is doing at $600. and ebay/shebay oem out the store is still $850 or better
so if that's how they are really pricing...then they are making up for it on them 75 dollar drives (aka 350 bucks)...rotflmao

    but we shall see...

uhmm... "The ASUS W90 was designed with one goal in mind; blow all other gaming notebooks out of the water. The W90 features two ATI Radeon Mobility 4870 graphics cards connected in CrossFireX" is the first couple lines in the review.. as far as the specs he listed, that's prolly cause he cut/paste them from somewhere. Otherwise, I counted 4 places where he made it clear it's 2 seperate cards in crossfire.

As do I. If you examine an ATI driver, it can't change the name from "HD 4870" to "HD4870 Crossfire" as it can't distinguish between the two. It just installs proper driver settings with vista and the distinguishing card IDs are setup to be named the Mobility x2 - meaning 2 cards in use. Not a dual gpu card. Talk to ATI man, it's their naming scheme. But the short of it is.. the .inf names the cards. I've modded enough of these drivers for the 3870s in crossfire which also reports as 3870 x2, to know exactly how they work. Had I removed one GPU and installed the same drivers, it would STILL report as a x2. That's just the description via ATI/ASUS/OCZ or whoever.. just move on man.

Stop talking down to me and get over yourself, you are not the ATI God that these forums have clearly gone to your head by implying.

I know how drivers work, obviously you do not know how Crossfire memory functionality works.

It's large and in charge in the living room since my Man Room somehow became a storage room, go figure... ;)

I'm keeping an eye out on the W90, NP5797, M98 and D900F as my travel and play laptop. Still can't max out WoW, full eye candy all settings high (Shadows off) on the HP without some chop chop here and there and serious frame chop in Raids, so I'm going to need something with more punch than an 8800gts @ 1680x1050.

Dude.. you have issues. You're going off on that guy about something out of his control. And all I'm saying is these cards aren't desktop cards.. it's an ATI thing, and like you it bugged the hell out of me when I first came across it. But it's ATI's way of distinguishing, that's their gig. And as far as memory, I really could care less whether ASUS advertises it as 512MB synchronus RAM between 2 cards, or 1GB total VRAM between 2 cards. They don't pay me to advertise for them, but whoever they do pay was smart by advertising as 1GB of total VRAM.

    Side note:
ATI God? I hate ATI. Thanks. However, I am extremely familiar with their BS..

    Edit:
I just wanted to apologize.. I wasn't trying to be rude, and didn't mean to be perceived as talking down to you. That wasn't my intent. I don't like to argue, and prefer to debate.. but, truly the naming scheme is some dumb @$$ ATI naming scheme. I do agree with you, to the extent that it is slightly misleading and somewhat confusing marketing. In any event, I apologize.

Arguments aside, naming aside, NBR does not need to further perpetuate this misleading naming scheme by using it in their review when it's not the actual card setup.

I'm not into arguing over every minute thing either... I just place a very high value on precision, especially in front page reviews.
