Ok, so now that Xotic is offering the Dualcore options for these, I will probably order this laptop next week with either the P9600 or the T9550 . . . What is the difference between these two other that power draw? Which would be better to have for any reason (other than batt life). One last question, the drivers this comes with . . . do they work well for most games like Fallout 3, WoW, GTA IV and Company of Heros (RTS)? Remember I will be overseas, with limited access to actually download new drivers, till at least the end of the year. There are the games (with the exception of WoW) I will be playing to occupy my time. Thanks for any responses you can give on these games.

I know it was mentioned by Justin when they started their testing of the A-1 model but I found it funny that ASUS has now removed 17% as an option for OC'ing the CPU on the X1's.
I had a first run (first day) X1 and it just recently got RMA'd for a new X1 and now the OC function is limited to 15%. O'well wonder what version/CPU is going to be OC'd up to the 25% they claimed in thier press release flash.
Also anyone notice an abnormal amount of "bounce" in the top media bar above the keyboard?
****EDIT. I also see where XoticPC now offers various CPU configs, just adding a 2.66 Duo sets this pup WAY more $$$$$ than an X1? A BR player (not writer) and a second 320gig HD no where makes up for that not to mention 2.66 (A1) < 2.8 (X1). However you want a 2.0 Quad the A1 is the only way to go. -
Bounce?
The duals from XOTIC are more because their models are all A1s, which means they are delivered to them with the q9000. If you want another processor from them, you are paying for the hardware swap and xotic's warranty as Asus won't warranty a chip that they did not include in the machine. -
Anyone notice this latest review of the W90vp-X1 on Newegg?
"it gobbles
Reviewed By: content on 3/28/2009 Tech Level: high - Ownership: 1day to 1 week
Pros: the box is nice
Cons: DOA. im sure it would have been nice."
I wonder if this was the new batch? -
I noticed the immediate response to the review by the ASUS support team, so apparently they take the negative reviews seriously. I would imagine that if enough people who have had bad experiences post their reviews it might "light a fire under their asses", so to speak, as an incentive to fix the issue.

For those of you who ordered at Xotic, has anything changed in your order status? Mine went to Phase 2, and then a post in the forums by Justin indicated that (obviously) not enough laptops came to fill all orders, however, gothicaleigh from here also pre-ordered and his never even got to Phase 1 yet. So I'm just wondering if it hasn't been updated, or if I'm going to be waiting until next week for the next shipment.
I'd ask on Xotic forums, but I can't get on there for some reason. -
That may be the case but unless you have money flowing out of your arse why in the world would you order the Dual from xotic and pay more then just getting it from Newegg. (Well other then the fact that Newegg has no return policy)
-
Maybe if they wanted a BluRay drive and second harddrive? Not sure what the cost difference would be, but acquiring an X1 from Newegg seems to be like playing the lottery at this point. XOTIC's may not have shipped yet, but at least you're gauranteed to receive one before long.
(personally I wanted a quadcore in it, even if it is "just" the q9000)
XOTIC's first shipment just arrived today. My status is still at "Phase 1 (Pending Parts or Item Arrival)", so I am hoping that it's just not been updated and not that I missed the cut-off for the first batch.
-
I'm leaning towards troll on that one. The reviewer doesn't have the "this item was purchased from Newegg" title, and honestly where else are you going to get an X1?
-
Just ordered mine from the Egg
.
-
you just couldn't wait...now could you? LOL
you know me and E are gonna be on you about testing it right.. so be prepared..lol -
Sorry if the question has been asked a bunch of times in this thread, but searching through 3500 posts is a little daunting. Are there benchmarks posted anywhere on these 4870's? How do they compare again with the 9800m GTX?
I've also been reading about some problems, but majority of people are alright with this laptop, correct? -
Just received confirmation that mine has entered "Phase 2 (Sent for Custom Building / Testing / Burn In & Final QA)". Yay!
-
Oh im prepared bro dont you worry
i have a million games i can test on it and multiple operating systems so it should be some good times ahead
. Now lets just say a prayer and hope someone figures out how to get some bloody other drivers to work.
-
yep! just another day in the life of a computer enthusiast!
-
My point is they shouldn't be charging retail (full price) on the A1 then charging retail again for the dual core processor. It seems to me like if you buy from xotic and get the dual core you are paying for a Q9000 quad and a dual core also to me that is just a little extreme
On a side note man I am sitting here hovering over the buy now button on New Egg. I want this pc but I really really hate new egg's no return policy.
So for those of you wanting it right at this moment new egg is letting you add to cart instead of auto notify -
Here are some benchmarks
http://www.say-it-loud.com/w90bm.htm
As for problems the first batch maybe 2 had bios issues. Havn't had any complaints of late other then by people trying to mod drivers. As for a compairo take the benchmarks as you will but most of those are from semi troubled machines and the results vary. Also since the 9800GTX isn't available in this machine right at the moment a true compairo is impossible. -
Interesting thanks for the link fright

Am wondering here, what major differences betweenm the W90Vp-A1 and W90Vp-X1, besides HD. I mean cant I get a W90Vp-X1 and drop in a second HD myself ?
-
Core2Duo versus Core2Quad (better clock on the duo though)
DVD versus BluRay
1 320gb 7200 HDD versus 2
...is pretty much the extent of it. -
Yeah, but you deal with Newegg instead of the Justins. ::swoons::
-
Which is the reason I havn't ordered yet. I don't want to buy from new egg but I don't want the A1 no need for BD player or extra hdd and I think I would like the Dual core better and don't want to pay for 2 processors. Ahh well maybe Asus will smarten up and broaden their distribution system -
You scared him off.
-
Do it this thread hasn't been the same since your terrible loss. -
Annnnnnnnnnnd it's gone.....
That's right newegg is back to auto notify -
Do it!!! You know you want to...besides, three times is a charm
-
Wow it went fast again . im glad i didnt mess around this time
.
-
Hey its good to see you back
I guess when you said you were selling you were not joking .

I fully understand Newegg's policy and I have bought many a desktop part from them in the past. My reluctance stems from the fact I have always limited my notebooks to a 15.4 display because while I don't care for portability I never really wanted anything bigger. I am not 100% sure I can live with an 18.4 display it may just be to big for me. So far every W90 owner that decided to get out of it has had good luck selling them on the forum or elsewhere but I think that stems from the low availability of these machines. Once they become readily available I think just deciding to sell it might be a little tougher.
However this all is making me very tempted to go down to BB buy an 18.4 machine and use it for a week or 2 return it and make my decision.
Also given how close I was to just ordering the dang thing when I had it in my cart 30 min ago I have a feeling that within a couple weeks if there are no startling announcements about other vendors selling them I will probably break my no pc's from newegg rule and just order the dang thing. -
I build my desktops by ordering parts through newegg. Luckily I have not had to deal with their infamous return policies yet.

oh man quad. I thought you were going whitebook.
-
XOTIC has begun posting QX9300 benchmarks on their site.
-
Just saw that but it only offers a 3 and 5% OC with a Qx9300 ? kinda sad, but hopefully there is a way around that .
-
Yea my question about the W90Vp-A1 and W90Vp-X1 differences were more acedemic than anything, I have a order in for the W90Vp-A1 with Xotic.....still in phase 1 though
hoping that changes to Phase 2 soon
-
Do you have a link to this?
-
-
I guess that's pretty good, I'd like to see it with a higher overclock to get into the 17,000's and plus.
-
Yes the driver issue does have me concerned , hopefully it can be addressed as i have been complaining about this abit lately myself, but then i went and ordered one anyhow lol . Ive been abit bored lately in my spare time and wanted something new to tinker around with and i think this will do just fine
.
-
Striker, I can sell you mine. It's still in pristine condition....
Works great, but it's just another toy I don't need.
-
Has it had the bios flashed? Has it been RMA'd at all -
OMGOMGOMGOMGOMG
"New status: Phase 4 (Order Shipped)"
Wheee!!
::happy dance::
-
Oh common now!!!! I've been refreshing ALL day, how could I miss it! Quad ggrrrrrrrrrr!!!!!
-
/sigh Hadis i figured you would have got one today
it lasted about 45 minutes in stock .
-
Apparently you can't even walk away to grab a bite, when you are on the hunt for W90. 10 min to reheat some left overs, and 15 to eat, and no W90 for me today.

Aonther new newegg W90vp review:
Reviewed By: Snoman on 3/31/2009 Tech Level: high - Ownership: 1 day to 1 week
This user purchased this item from Newegg
Pros: Beautiful screen, clarity and color were excellent with no dead pixels. This product is outstanding best suited for students or someone that does not have a desktop. The fingerprint login works well and the webcam even takes a picture during login for security record (though useless if performed in the dark). Minimal preinstalled junk utilities and those that are can easily be removed. Fast boot times, wireless, USB, DVD seemed to work well.
Cons: The Radeon 4870x2 was non-functioning when I received mine early March (the self extracting install/set up died 15 min after starting the computer), this was confirmed by ASUS tech dept to be the primary cause of apparent DOA status. ASUS had me removed the accelerated drivers, affectively making the video card work at 50% efficiency, there may or may not be an updated driver available at this time. The laptop completed its self extracting install and worked fine after removing the drivers. The bios was also out of date. The battery life is non-existent, even turning down the monitor settings I never got more than 90 minutes of useful life. Do your research; there are similar comparable products for hundreds less.
Other Thoughts: I was duped by the original 16:10 WUXGA advertisement of this product (since fixed). Six weeks later, I am still waiting for my full refund. ASUS support was have been very helpful in finding a resolution for me. -
Has anybody figured out how to overclock this laptop to the 4GHz needed to break the 20k barrier? The turbo POS is only allowing a 5% OC which isn't nearly enough. I need something to adjust the FSB.
-
i really don't think they have sold 1000's just yet..i think they are still working on a hundred or 2....
-
I would really like to know what he was referring to here.
-
no need to send a link. the only people that we're selling it was newegg and they aint sold a hundred working machines yet.
-
Well im still excited lol even though it suddenly started to rain in here with all the negative
but i knew that going in, so im prepared .
