When they have 500gig SSD drives for $200 bucks each ill jump on board in a heartbeat, but till then i can live without them, though the speed is awesome without a doubt .
-
Yeah, RAID0 will have to work for me until the price comes down and the size goes up a bit on those SSD's.
Admittedly very impressive performance gains though. -
I've always been a great supporter of SSD's and I would get one in a heartbeat as soon as they become more affordable. Samsung already has 250GB ssd's on their way with great specs. But i have no idea of how much they would go for, but it wouldn't be cheap. I think the SSD's will take over from HDD's much sooner than anyone anticipates. My guess is that by mid 2010 most notebooks and most enthusiast desktops would have SSD's in sizes of 250GB to 500GB.
-
Has anybody gotten theirs yet or ordered theirs? I hope i can have mine before i come home stateside
-
been using raid for a while now myself. decide to try the ssd's. i have about 8 computers so one with ssd drives is fine by me. i will take full advantage of them just like i do my raid setups. plus i have a 640 gigs of regular software/music/mp3/video file storage. (raid0 setup for storage or 320 single drive. havent decided yet. still testing.)
check this guy out quadzilla
24 ssd's in raid. 2 GB in throughput.

It should be possible to do that.
-
Yay, finally got mine ordered off newegg. Got the wife involved and we have been diligently checking for it to go on sale.
-
Thats good. Now run that beast in the ground!!
-
Ok that is it..... **** Newegg...... I've been cheking it just to make sure for the past 3 hours. My patience is gone. -
A few of us. The X1's have been trickling out of Newegg for about a month now and the A1's shipped just this week (mine arrived Friday).
-
you getting any benching in yet?
-
SSDs will still have access time as a win versus a RAID setup. Compound that with the amount of random reads and writes an OS does concurrently, and you start to have a big gap benefit. While I agree that RAID 0 is not for everyone, SSDs are. The prices right now are too high for most people, but even a casual user will see an immediate and tangible improvement from getting an SSD.
Although this isn't exactly on topic, but slightly since Striker was asking about them earlier.
-
for sure!
hey, i was trying to do a raid, but i see these two drives are not compatible for that..lol
thought i was going to be doing some 300+ MB reads and writes....lol
guess not. -
You know, there are currently TWO X1's for sale in the NBR marketplace, if you want an X1, you might as well get one of those, you'll even save some cash.

Thats pretty darn good, if your max was 35.7 and your average was 27 that means it stayed pretty much in that area most of the time and that one low hit must have been a very brief moment.
-
Does anybody have benchmark results for crysis/warhead for the A1? and is there a signifcant framrate difference versus the X1?
-
ViciousXUSMC Master Viking NBR Reviewer
Its going to be one of the first ones I do, I should get it tomarrow night. I'll take a handfull of games with me to work and let them install while I do stuff, then let them bench while I go do more stuff.
I prefer games that have there own benchmarks or benchmark tools available.
So Crysis & Devil May Cry 4 are two that come to mind. -
any progress been made with drivers yet?
-
Mrzzz sadly you were are only hope for the moment as you had some of the best ideas going of how to get them working but that ended when you said you were jumping ship . No one else has stepped up to the plate yet with any other ideas. I Currently have Win7 and a fresh install of vista64 waiting for some drivers (supposedly some of the error code43 issues were based around needing a fresh install) So hopefully someone with some ATI understanding will figure it out . Also i just got the latest build of Win7 and it blue screens because it installs a 4870 driver before even finishing the OS installation so i had to revert back to the last build of Win7 to even get it fully installed.
-
I dont know how I want to buy used unit, even if it was used for a week or two. I'd rather have new one, but thats not happening as we know.... Thanks though for the info.
-
what, two units for sale?
-
-
what, two of them for sale and no one is jumping on it? why is that?
-
:/ unno guess every one doesn't know most the issues were fixed with the bios release ?
-
wished i had known about that earlier
-
So the W90 can't update to anything over Catalyst 8.12 yet?
-
lets hope so
-
No it can not sadly . If someone wants to take another crack at modding some ill be happy to be the guinea pig

Im working on getting games on right now.
Got UT3, TF2, & Portal off of my Steam account.
Starting to get Warcraft 3, Warcraft 3 TFT, & Starcraft off my blizzard account,
Just got done installing CoD4 off of disk, and installing Crysis off of disk as we speak.
Im also isntalling Devil May Cry 4
I think that covers a good enough range of games for benching. I cant wait to play starcraft for some reason
This is what you call multi tasking

not in dmc4. I ran it stock, overclocked to 3.2ghz, 4 cores and dual core. and not increase what so ever.
-
will the 4870's fit in the m17 or are they propriety ( cant spell)
-
proprietary is the correct word i believe...
And IIRC, the card have the same physical form like in M17. -

Fine by me if you stick with that opinion, but its not true. I have explained the benifits of quads many times over again.
There may be a few games that the fps is lower due to cpu limitations but as long as the fps is still high enough to play thats all that matters.
If I tell you to encode the same video file as me and when its done you can play your game. Im going to be playing in half the time you are
Its important to note that built into the software is a 2.3ghz overclock and we can go higher than that once we find the PLL.
Somebody took the 2.53ghz QX9300 up to 4ghz so we have proof that its possible.
All we need to get is about 2.8ghz and no game will be a problem for sure and that should be pretty easy to accomplish. -
how large is a vista install? asking here cuz its so active lol
like exact GB so i know if i can fit it on my SSD with win 7 -
like 15ish gigs .
-
i wish i had a q2100 to push .... i got my t9400 to 3.2 before i ran outta voltage using set fsb..
i think its stupid to let it only OC 5% i saw their cooling system its more then enough -
Vista Ultimate SP1 requires you to have at least 15GB partition. It will not install if you have less. After installation, the OS will occupy about 12GB (2GB of Microsoft bloatware included).
-
thanks sorry to go off topic but this thread is so busy i knew i would get a answer
i have been looking on google but i can find any results for the PLL here. I was just looking to see for ya'll -
Since when has any enthusiast ever stopped at what the manufacturer's software allows? Nobody runs even close to stock on an Intel Quad.
-
dondadah88 Notebook Nobel Laureate
what do you mean? I am within safe clocks. I am going to push to 3.33ghz. that's safe. lol.
-
yea when you push a t9400 to 3.2 is starting to get <strike>unsafe</strike> SAFE
-
electrosoft Perpetualist Matrixist
That's with the standard "We need to protect are rear ends" utility.
Once someone *cough* Quad or Viscious *cough* opens up the W90Vp and finds the PLL along with dissecting it and giving us pictures of everything, the FSB can be adjusted manually. -
yeah, i never really understood that...
5 percent over clock
max system over clock
gpu over clocking
bios flashing
vga card flashing
memory upgrade
hard drive upgrade
cpu upgrade
voiding a warranty.
guess this is what defines an enthusiast vs a regular user... -
hey now i am a enthusiast but i do like a warrenty
specially when your brokeish...... i just cover my tracks
has any one thought about a vga flash on the 4870's ? also can u use amd gpu tool?? -
I cracked mine open and removed one of the heatsinks off the VGA's Sadly my iphone sucks so bad at taking pictures i did not bother . the chip though says ATI M98 followed by some numbers etc. The way everything is packed in on the motherboard im not sure yet where to look for the PLL chip and im praying its not on the flipside of the motherboard.
-
a crappy iphone???? how you the only person in the world with a crappy iphone??? lol people talk about that phone like it was the god of phones.
me personally..i got an htc touch pro. never liked iphones till they came out with the second one. -
im actually looking at that phone is it slow gimme some feed back in a PM tell me if its worth it pleaseeeeee
-
The iphone itself is an amazing piece of tech to say the least , the camera on the other hand is a turd.
