Gonna be part of the W90Vp owner's club in May when I upgrade from my G1S-X1!!! Can't wait!!!

I was going to go with a Clevo that has a GTX 280m, but my friend told me that its just a rebadged 9800m and that the W90 with full desktop GPUs was twice as fast so I'm down!

So any negatives to this thing I should know about? My G1S had lots of thermal negatives but I fixed them myself.

Its true the 280m are rebadged 9800s but theres little doubt in my mind that the M98 will be faster just by what Johnkss has posted thus far comparing the 9800gtx to my machine . So if the 280m are 50% faster (doubt it) then the current 9800s then its going to be quite abit faster then the W90 (speculation) . But the one thing i can bet you on is for a similar specced M98, say 2 cards a decent processor ram etc will probably run you a pretty penny more . So if you can wait you may as well, but at the same time i could not be happier from what i have seen the games run at so far on my machine. If money is no object and your not in a huge hurry then just wait it out and see what happens but when the m98 hits i know this forum here will be filled with Trolls up the whazoo comparing the 2.

    1: leaning more towards a quadro fx 3700m than a 9800m gtx
2: twice as fast? i think that's a very big wide speculation there.
3: desktop gpu? some of our more experienced ati users say it's not a full fledged desktop gpu
4: quite a few negatives have been addressed, but one very big one still remains....ati/asus whoever driver support.(this is to cover all envolved or not mentioned)

    ^That machine gets 160000 3DMark06 points.

    The W90VP-X1 with a 2.8 C2D gets 150000 points.

The only reason the Sager one gets an extra 10k points is because of the Quad-Core CPU.

Yeah, it appears I'm wrong. Its only slightly faster.

As for not being a desktop CPU, it has been verified that it is. The only difference is that the desktop unit comes paired with DDR5 RAM while the W90's only has DDR3 (to reduce heat since the cooling unit had to be minimized)

Embarrasing mistake to make for an engineering student :(

and so far a w90 has not beat out a ocz whitebook running 3870s in dual core mode 15.8. at 3dmark06. if we we're just going off of that.
the best a sli 9800m gtx will score is 14.8 in dual core mode stock cpu. (in a non over clocked system only(fsb/bios/cpu over clock)
kind of why we all wanted to see what they would do under the same conditions as the 4870s with an over clocked cpu/fsb pump in dual core / quad core mode. :)

Keep moving the goalposts. You plainly said "a W90" had not beat "a ocz whitebook running 3870s in dual core mode". There is "a W90" that has accomplished that.

I'm sorry for the mistake again, I mean't desktop GPU, not CPU. Doy!

So you're telling me a whitebook with dual 3870s scored 15.8k? Please provide me with a link, cuz I have to witness this myself lol.

14.8k for the 9800m SLI+c2D set? Thats impressive alright.

But, mind you, the W90 scores 15k out of the box. I promise you sir, I will come back by the end of May with a score of 16k OR I CHANGE MY NAME!!!!

I don't mean to be a troll. Please don't get me wrong. I'm just very driven and my hobby since I was 12 has been tweaking things for optimal performance. My G1S did 3.4k out of the box and now it does over 5k, with some room still left for improvement so I'm confident that with a good drill and a screwdriver, I can do something like that again.

I can't wait to do that and get paid for it this summer.

OEM typically means just the CPU, no heat sink fan, no little Intel sticker, no fancy packaging and manual, nothing but the CPU. Can be a great way to save some cash because you're not paying for things that will eventually be thrown away anyway, but make sure you know whom you are purchasing from, as these are easier to make forgeries of (relabelling other chips and other nefarious things).

So if not difference in performance why not buy non? Ebay has non's for 400, i think.

I edited previous post, it was non OEM, people were trying to make some money on me!!

    hey quadzilla:
going by this picture here...it looks like kinc's quad was in fact an oem version as well.

an example of the last stage es or qs will look something like this with no es markings, but once booted it will read es in all software reading the chip.

but as striker suggest.. your voiding your asus warranty putting a qx9300.

im thinking as long as you get a qs or oem, your doing well.
and besides, if you get the oem....your covered from intel for 3 years. with an es, your lucky if you get 30 to 90 days. (this is where that added money spent becomes a life saver)
both chips should perform identical though.
and like mr moo said...your name is quadzilla...not dualzilla...lol
"mr moo killed me with that post"
    lol

    striker:
yep, warranty right out the window! :D

I think most considering the QX9300, have already resigned to 'flip-flam-fluewy-there-Skippy' on the warranty, LOL! :D

Does CPU-Z make a distinction between 'OEM' or 'RETAIL BOX'?
no, it doesn't. only the distinction between es and oem...(speculation) everest may tell a different tale. it might make that call. if we can get someone like dodadah or ichime to run theirs through everest..we might be able to get some idea as to what it sees. probably sissoft sandra as well

You are correct. Intel will only warranty their Retail Box, OEMs need to be warrantied by the supplier (if a warranty exists).

    1) PIB, NIB, or RETAIL BOX= CPU / Processor which includes manufacturer's heat sink & fan, and has a 3 YEAR WARRANTY.

    2) OEM or TRAY CPU/Processor= have NO manufacturer's warranty. Warranty is supplied by seller.

Guess that would be one more reason to go QS . The only thing that makes me want OEM more then the QS is possible stability or maximum OC potential . Id have to do alot of research though to really get to the bottom of whether one could potentially be better then the other and not to mention anytime you buy any CPU, it can be luck of the draw on just how high it can go.

gonna get to the bottom of this oem stuff. someone has to have the updated answer over there. because now im wondering if the cpus that i have sent back to intel we're in fact retail. which still doesn't make since, because i know they we're oem. matter of fact, one came out of a uniwill laptop

yeah, not arguing it. i understand. i was thinking of something slightly different. and you bought yours from new egg so it wouldn't have that and it would be a trayed cpu.

but if it we're to have bought from xoticpc or another system builder, they would have given you the box top containing the serial number for warranty purposes(if requesting a retail cpu-qx9300). retail being 3 years and oem being trayed and no box top....
    *thinking out loud here*
