I haven't seen any Amex cards around up here but then again i don't use credit cards myself, however i do know that the platinum visa offers more or less the same thing. You get theft protection as well as an extra year of warranty if you use your gold/platinum Visa.
"Extended Warranty Insurance automatically doubles the original manufacturer's warranty, up to a maximum extension of 1 year. Your Extended Warranty Insurance starts immediately following the expiry of the original manufacturer's warranty, but in no event shall the combined Extended Warranty and original manufacturer's warranty exceed 5 years, and is subject to the terms and conditions of that original manufacturer's warranty, in addition to the terms and conditions outlined in this Certificate of Insurance.
Items covered by Extended Warranty must have been purchased using your RBC Royal Bank Visa Gold Preferred card, or acquired with your RBC Rewards® points. Included are personal property and items you give to family members. The purchases can be made anywhere in the world. The original warranty must be valid in Canada. "

The do give them out but they put them inside baby seals to make getting them more interesting.
Since ASUS does offer a 3 year warranty, I was wondering if it was available on the-X1. -

Well, so much for that. I get an error from RBE stating the model string can't be edited to be longer than the original. In other words, changing it from M98 to RV770 is going to be a pain. I really don't feel like busting out a hex editor to fix it because I'm feeling really lazy right now.
If I'm feeling adventurous, I might do it later this evening.

what happen when you changed these numbers in the bios to the ones in bold(if havent done already) anything happen?

Strange.... -
To all the hardcores (ViciousXUSMC, Quadzilla, etc.) my hats off to you all. I just finished flashing my GPU and installed CCC 9.4 as per ViciousX's fantastic guide/download and am loving the results! Keep up the good work and many happy returns to you all from those who want to mod the heck out of these beasts!
-
Did I miss something? I've been watching for the guide and I didn't see it. Is it posted in this thread?
-
Yet another great guide,
Vicious you are the MAN!!
Copy and repped !! -
Happy Easter everyone !
Now this is interesting..
Using the modified overclocking BIOS from Vicious I'm only getting a GPU score of 11009 in Vantage (Performance). This is with my CPU at 3.29GHz and video clocked to 610/940.
So really I'm seeing worse results than before flashing to this moded BIOS.
Any thoughts as to why?

Hi everyone.
Is there a quick way to see if both cards are working properly in crossfire on the A1 ? My ccc shows 1.ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4870X2 [Default LCD]
Does the X2 mean that they are both working ? It is the only thing available in the drop down menu. -
Yes the way this machine works is like a true X2 so no crossfire option . In your CCC just leave it at standard under the catalyst AI . If you have not had the chance to Read Vicious's guide about flashing the GPU then you should as this will allow you to install the new 9.4s which make a world of difference in many games .
-
Sometimes going to far on the OC will have diminishing returns but thats not what i would call a Massive OC by any stretch, so im not sure TBH . i havent felt the need yet to OC my GPUs much till i get the Qx9300. -
thank you Quadzilla
i will read guide and install the 9.4's -
-
The couple benches that i have run seemed to be almost exactly the same as pre 9.4 but the game framerate differences are huge in some of the games im currently playing ie mirrors edge,godfather2 where the framerates more then doubled because 8.12 didnt offer crossfire support in these games.

any one knows if the new asus W90vp-A1 will be available in europe and when?
-
HI guys!!!
I have been following this thread for awhile....long one....
I have some question, hopefully i dont have to go through the 400+ pages to get the answers!!!
I have the A1, what is the stable OC for the CPU that someone got with the Q9000???
What stable OC for the GPU was obtained???
If i modify the BIOS for the GPU's according to the Vicious guide.
Would i be able to update the drivers with ATI/AMD future releases?
Also, mine was sent in for RMA, i was getting an Average read of 2.69x with Nero DiscSpeed, anyone else experienced this issue???
Thanks guys!!! Nice work by everyone! -

I always like to verify they "stuck" with gpuz after I do it.
Im not seeing any gain with gpu overclock myself but I think its due to my cpu speed. The performance test is too low of a resolution and causes a cpu bottleneck, The high test I think has a very slight bottleneck. I wish I could do extreme. -
I also forgot to ask. With all of the mods, would the Turbo button still function??
-
ViciousXUSMC Master Viking NBR Reviewer
Yeah it works, but it doesnt
Meaning if I raise my cpu to 2.75ghz in standard mode and then turn on overclock mode, my clocks stay the same but my cpu voltage goes up like normal with the program so it does that part.
Other cpu's use higher voltage by default looks like (Quad and me were talking about this) so not everybody gets that benifit.
Id assume the QX9300 wont have anything happen as it only gets a 2% overclock on turbo gear. -
Do you have any answers to my previous Post, Vicious???
As in what is the stable OC you obtained with the Q9000?? etc etc -
-
Anyone tried upping the voltage to 1.2? This would mean every option under "Clock Settings" in RBE that has 550mhz core and 850mhz memory be set to 1.2 rather than 1.1. This doesn't mean every clock option, just the ones that has 550mhz and 850mhz. -
well ya better do something...seems a gtx is still on your heals and has no cpu or fsb over clocking....
-
Yeah but that looks like a customised run in Vantage.
Notice how theres no overall score and no CPU score!
- So the question is... what vantage settings were used here to acheive that GPU score? -

Its not the cpu its my ram, if I got higher rated ram I can go higher. -
so..
what you need to do is not run the last 8 test and only be focused on the gpu test.
test 1 and 2. do not run the others for right now. your trying to get a gpu stable over clock and for you to get this, you need to focus on the main gpu section only. -
well since i got the Intel® T9800 dual core in mine i wonder how much will i be able to wring out of it? Question is IF i get mine in time before i go home
-
Vicious, I'm definitely getting lower scores in vantage with your "M98-2 Overdrive (Master Increased Overclock Limit)" BIOS.
I'm really not sure why this is. But with the same settings I scored 11002, I'm now barely breaking 10900 on the GPU. -

If your using the new ones your probably getting error XX and only using one card(unless you can flash back to slave after the new drivers are installed, I have not tested this yet)
You want to flash M98-1 Overdrive to both cards, thats the master bios, and you need master on both cards for the new drivers.
Thats my guess and I have logic to back it up as my bios mod did not have any tweaks to performance, only overdrive was changed. -
I was/am actually using the Master BIOS (M98-1). I had just cut and pasted the name of the slave bios file here but forgot to change -2 to a -1
Anyway, still no dice after a reboot.
Maybe I need to re-install the 9.4 drivers? -
your only running the gpu test right(1 and 2)? no sense in waiting 10 extra minutes to find it didn't work.
-
-
-
have you tried reinstalling back (other driver) to make sure you can still get those number?
-
Flashed back to the original master BIOS on both cards and am getting scores that are more aligned with what I would expect to see.
Vicious, you have the A1 right?
Is it possible that the cards BIOS for the A1 is slightly different then that of the one shipping with the X1's?
(Just a thought)
Anyway, I'm out to dinner.
Catch you guys later. -
Did you match up the bios version in GPUZ to check and see they were the same ?.
-
ViciousXUSMC Master Viking NBR Reviewer
No it actually uses a physically different slot than ddr2 and the system bios would have to be programed to use it also.
dont worry DDR3 is not really going to do you much good right now and its still pretty expensive. -
ViciousXUSMC Master Viking NBR Reviewer
I'll have to do this myself tonight and confirm. I got higher scores in everything when I flashed and overclocked so it seems strange.
Few things: make sure overdrive is disabled before you flash the new bios.
When you turn it back on after the flash be sure you make the new gpu clocks stick by testing them and confirming/oking them and make sure you do it for both cards. -
over all scores? -
ViciousXUSMC Master Viking NBR Reviewer
vantage test I really need to do 1920x1080 to get good gpu readings performance is for sure cpu limited at my speed, and I can/will confirm that tonight.
High is not so bad but I can still see a bit of cpu bottleneck there.
Whats I will end up doing is running a custom test set 1920x1080 to test this stuff, the score wont do much good for comparing to other systems but you will be able to see the changes to my system.
So going to do many runs
Current setup modded drivers overclocked 2.75ghz performance
again 2.5ghz
again 2.0 ghz
to show the cpu bottleneck
vantage high
2.75ghz
2.3ghz
2.0 ghz
to see if there is cpu bottleneck in high
Then the custom tests 1920x1080
gpu overclocked to max
gpu downclocked some to normal max overdrive
overdrive off
then change bios over to original ones
that test set should give us a lot of information on what is going on with the gpu and if we need more cpu mhz to be really using these gpu numbers at these resolutions. you dual core guys over 3.2ghz are probably ok but I am pretty sure my 2.75 is not enough for benching. -
i can save you the time.
ati is mhz driven...
we found this out already. -
ViciousXUSMC Master Viking NBR Reviewer
if you have a hard to render game though the cpu wont be the limiting factor the gpu will. Vantage 1920x1080 should be enough to do this, but with 2 cards its even harder to take the cpu out of the equasion.
my desktop 4850's are still <s>turtlenecked</s> @ 3.6ghz for 3dmark06
edit: lol I said turtlenecked, I think its time to get some sleep. I meant bottlenecked. -
mobile platform only.
seems to be so confusions going on....
1: there is no cpu bottleneck
2: you will get the same exact cpu score if you run 1 core vs 4 cores.
3: your gpu score will take a very little hit when going from it's low level speed to it's high level speed
4: when over clocking using just the multiplier it will not change much either.
5: when using setfsb to raise the system speed, it will start to change allot.
6 you only need to attempt to over clock your gpu and leave everything else alone. since with a d901c. that is the only thing being over clock. so no it's not going to be the same thing. ( jamie is over clocking his whole system to get where i got with only gpu over clocking) gpu over clocking with nvidia cards (9800m gtx)nets like a 3000 point increase (vantagemark) where as ati doesn't. this is why we sit and wait for the m980nu to come out fully. this is the only machine running dual 9800m gtx or higher nvidia cards that may have cpu/fsb over clocking then we can see what happens.
you have to look at the bigger picture. this is why we are trying to push the w90 to the upper limits now. because if that other machine is allowed to do all these things..it will leave the w90. 20k 3dmark score or not. now if it's released with no over clocking and a locked pll...then it's a wrap.
this is why we say mhz driven. you only have to over clock your gpus to find out how much of an increase you get...
if i could raise my desktop cpu to 1600 mhz fsb....do you think i would still be sitting around the scores i am now?
remember...the bigger picture...
for the record...crysis regular can be played with a 2 core and still get the same numbers as with 4 cores. and can be played with one core.
