Lol nah its an 9.4 thing :) in the next couple days maybe ill load some other sets of drivers on here and test em . I had serious issues with the 9.3s that E-modded with inverted colors and other weird issues so they came off right away.

    side note:
my ssd drive has been running full steam in my desktop computer and it has no heat. feels about as warm as you holding your mouse.

so someone was telling stories... think they may need to go back and retest a few drives....

Could you tell me how the hdx18 compares to the W90Vp screen quality wise and audio quality? My main usage will be watching movies.

also is there a overheating problem with the laptops when putting them on my bed and watching a movie? (not gaming)? I'm asking this because my current HP just overheats and shuts down when I put it on the bed

you shouldn't put no laptop on the bed. it will overheat unless the compenents are really low end where it doesnt generate no heat. regardless you are killing your laptop.

i recommend if you have a old desktop to take off the side cover and use that as a hard surface for soft areas(bed!!!!!!!!!, sofa!!!!!!!!!!)this is what i do it and it and it is well worth it.

Is there such a thing as a laptop cooler that I could put on the bed? one that works well with the W90VP?

no because the fans are located on the bottom and it will serve no purpose. unless there isnt a hard surface for you to put it on to then put it on your bed, don't put it on the bed.

A laptop stand will probably work better for on-bed use. I've seen laptop stands that are hollow in the middle to allow for bottom ventilation. Tho might have to look around for something that will fit a 18.4".

Yep, get it on something hard which will allow your fans to work. I have an old breakfast in bed tray that I use for this on the rare occasion where my lappie gets in bed with me.

hey everyone. ive been following this thread for a while and ive learned a lot of things about the W90, but I got a question. what would be the main difference between going with the base processor Intel Q9000 2.00 GHz Quad Core over the Intel QX9300 Core 2 Extreme Quad Core 2.53 GHz. would it lessen the playability of high end games? I really dont want to spend an extra $1,000 if it wont make a significant difference.

yes i think it does make a difference. even from me going from 2.53 to 3.2 is a jump in proformance in games

    Air Jordan,
As far as performance goes - When overclocked, the q9000 yields playable fps in all games I have seen benchmarked, but if you go with it you will most likely want to look at vicious's limit breaker guide. That said, the qx will provide a significant increase in performance, but depending on your opinion the qx's extra performance may be unnecessary to game adequately.

    Also,
It is true that it is $1000 more for the qx, but there are many places that sell the processor for approximately $400 (e.g. Ebay). If you find you still want the qx processor, you could save a lot of money by installing it yourself.

    -Hope this helps

thanks for the reply :). if i get this laptop, i really do want to get the most out of it that i can, so i may just buy the base processor and purchase the QX9300 to install on my own. ive never installed anything like this on a computer. would it be an easy install? also, i have heard that with the qx, the overclocking feature is disabled, can anyone clarify if this is true?

if i buy a better processor seperately, would there be a better option besides the QX9300? ive been looking at other processors and ive found ones such as the Intel Core 2 Quad Extreme QX9650 12MB 1333 MHZ and the Intel Core 2 Quad Extreme QX9770 SLAWM processor. would these be faster processors than the QX9300 and would they even be compatible with the W90?

Currently the best you can get is the Qx9300 . What i would do is buy the A1 from Gentech or Xoticpc with the Q9000 then down the road if you feel that is not enough CPU power move up to the Qx9300 or what ever the fastest is by that time. The Q9000 overclocked is plenty fast and the best bang for your buck IMHO.

Then the W90Vp is not for you. If movies are a priority on a surface non-conducive to air flow, an HDX18T with a P series processor is your best bet to keep the overall thermals down.

My daughter uses her GX720 (9600M GT GDDR3) with a T9500 in it on the bed, couch, pillows no problem. Temps are 10 higher, but well within norm.

You definitely want something with a mid range/cooler CPU and a mid to low end graphics solution. an HDX18T w/ a Blu-Ray drive and something like a P8400 or Q9000 makes sense for what is your primary function.

But don't expect to run games with max details, native res and get serious frame rates. But it will handle light gaming duty.

yea i see what you mean, and it is an amazing deal for all that power. there is always the possibility that if i wait long enough, an even better processor will come out that i could replace the Q9000 with, or the price for the QX9300 would drop. but i think ive made my decision and i will buy the W90 with the base processor, i just cant stand not having it lol. thanks a lot for your help :D

Ty for the replay, if I do get the HDX18 i'm going to get it maxed out (qx9300,8gb ddr3,etc) I don't mind buying a laptop stand, cooler, food tray to put the laptop on the bed just want to know what i'll enjoy more when watching movies (screen quality, audio)

    Quadzilla,

When you dropped the QX9300 in yours did you have to tweak anything or change the BIOS etc. Will it work as is if I just drop it in. Also will the pre-release E0 Stepping versions work with the w90vp? I am seriously considering this. Thx

Thats how my crysis bench tool looked in Win 7 with slight corruption of the buttons and things.

Did you get around to installing Win 7 yet?

I should try to run some Crysis with the original drivers to see if they work better as I had major losses with the modified ones.

I would go with the asus. More power overall and the screen quality is second to none. I havent heard the sound on the hp so can make no comparison there. Since sucks is as good as it gets with laptop sound anyways rather than trying to figure out which has the least suckage i would go with headphones on either one anyways. The backback which isnt too bad is a value added bonus since your likely to need one. My two cents....

Yep its simply just a drop in and go . no bios updates nothing special .I also formatted(ghosted my drive first though) just to see or make sure i wasnt losing anything by not. all benchmarks were the same etc, so it will save everyone the time or the thought they may want to reinstall there OS because of going from say a Dual to Quad etc.

I'm in the market for a gaming laptop, and strongly leaning towards the w90Vp. I only have a couple of questions first.

    1. To any one fortunate enough to have the qx9300 in their w90, how fast does it run on factory oc??

    2. Is crysis playable, or fluently playable in full res?

    3. Driver issues. Whats going on??? Still lacking; currently being resolved; or getting better?

    4. I know this is kind of a dumb question, but dies the warranty cover it if i get a bad video card??

1.Edit lol i read factory as farcy: 5% Overclock 2653mhz for now.Setfsb will take it up to 3.0ghz comfortably.

2.Yes crysis in fully playable at native res though@high settings much better then very high but again depends on you defintion of playable. @very high my score was 29fps@veryhigh in the benchmark, scroll back a page or 2 and youll see.

    3. No driver issues any more so nothing to be concerned about as theres an easy solution to it .

4.The machine has a full 2 year warranty for anything that should go wrong and 1 year of accidental .

Your guess is as good as anyone elses . Not really the throne claimer so to speak either as the Sager 9262 with a desktop CPU and dual 9800gtxs pretty much run neck and neck . More like there sharing the throne for the moment.

The only other notebook on the horizon that may take the lead and very well could is the M98 from Clevo coming with Dual 280m (rebadged 9800gtxs basically clocked faster) but since its not out no one knows for certain.

The machine handles Raid no problem, as for Raid on SSDs i dont see why not but im not certain as i have not went down that path yet, i dont think anyone who owns a W90 has either.

    Me, its instant.

I had a short wait due to ordering while they had none in stock, but I think they have some in stock right now, just PM GentechPC on the forums and ask if they are in stock.

Though I think there site should also say if they are in stock or not.
