Vicious seems to be very stable at 2.75 . Farcry2 Ultra high ? ya its a no brainer for this machine . average frames at those settings when i ran the long benchmark are somewhere around 45 fps cant remember off hand.

-
Ok, thanks Vicious for the emailed stuff. Now just need to know what all drivers to dowload from AMD? Just the display driver, or the one with the CCC package? I just found out my 500GB will ship in a month . . . forunately i dont have over 360GB of stuff to load up yet
-
dondadah88 Notebook Nobel Laureate
was that farcry2 with the qx9300. i got alittle more with higher resolution. the screen shot is in the sign.
-
Alright so my laptops been ordered finally
just a waiting game now. There anyone else thats attempted some setfsb overclocks on the q9000. I want to know for sure if the 2.75 barrier is ram limited or if its something just related to chip stepping or the need for moar voltage. Would love to push this chip to the 3-3.2 ghz range. On that note does anyone have the timings of the stock ram out of curiosity, at 800mhz (pc6400 speeds) Anyone care to check?
-
dondadah88 Notebook Nobel Laureate
i think crossfire wasn't working when you did the benchmark what driver were you using when you did it. one easy way for find out is to check your temps for your gpu's to see if it is close or try a different driver.
-
Last time i ran the benchmark it was on 8.12s before i was able to load the new drivers . I had john send me his FC2 benchmarks for comparisons sake but never got around to actually benching it again since then. Either way be it 45 or 90fps its more then playable and i think thats all he wanted to know. Ill have to run some benches on it later when i have more time to sit thru ranch long .
-
dondadah88 Notebook Nobel Laureate
yeah it takes forever. i press run benchmark and leave it for a while. just post them up when you get a chance.
-
yes friends... if the game is getting 30 plus frames while playing...then it's considered playable.
60 fps with vsync on and the game is considered fluently playable (personal opinions) -
Thank you quadzilla, My last graphics card was geforce 5950 lol. I can't wait to test some HD videos I have at home. I was thinking in sending them to you to see the performance before I buy it, But now, I bought the A1 already so I hope it will be able to play. The videos are MP4 1280 x 720p 60fps 12mbps, and the 1920 x 1080p 60fps and 1920 x 1080p 60fps at 24mbps. I've tried on many computer but they can only play the 720p 60fps skipping frames to compensate. Now, Do you think that HD videos like that takes more from the CPU or Graphics card?
-
Its going to play everything HD you throw at with out a doubt .All the new HD software these days offloads alot of the work to the cards . As for 60fps cant say ive seen to much 1080p stuff at that speed as movies are encoded@24fps unless you disable the pulldown and have them run at 60hz.

No problem, yeah just find the x64 9.4 display driver only package. -
So we don't want/need the newest ccc?
-
Hi. I finally got this "beast" and so happy now.
I love this laptop. Quiet..stylish..heavy..
I have three questions..need help.
I tried 3dmark06 and screen looked unstable and through out the whole test, graphics had lot of glitches.. Is upgrade to V's 9.4 driver will fix the issue? by the way got 11,384 pts stock .. no OC.
Second question is I used HWmonitor and only saw CPU and HD Temperatures.. no GPU temperature.. What is the cause of that? and is there another program out there I can use?
Last question is with Q9000, what is most stable OC range?
Asus 15% OC or setFSB to 2.75 ?
Thank you.

No, just follow the directions in the guide to update the driver only, Asus probably as some special code in the included CCC for the mobile 4870X2 if you update the CCC you wont be able to open it (though everything still functions) -
ViciousXUSMC Master Viking NBR Reviewer
I doubt it will fix it as the stock drivers are probably going to be the most stable, maybe you have a bad card unfortuantly.
The temps, I dont know, its a new card so it has new sensor addresses and things. Even GPU-Z does not pick up the temp of the cards. For now you can open the included CCC and see the temps in the Overdrive section.
For overclock, 2.3ghz is going to be fully stable as Asus has preset that as a safe limit, 2.75 is the max I was able to get that is stable.
Your mileage will vary, you may get 3ghz or just 2.6ghz. -
Hey V ~
I need help..
I tried to follow your guide and get BSOD twice while try to use Winflash program..
Help me.. Thanks -
So I should stick with the stock driver and do not update to 9.4 ?
I'm little confused...
According to GPU-Z my driver are atiumdag 7.14.10.0621
and driver package version 8.551.2-081109a.
Thank you. -
Is it worth the money to go for a q9100 over a q9000?
Or would it be better to go for a pretty fast dual core and then down the line install a qx9300 myself. I'm anxious about dual vs quad core performance in DCC apps. -

If you plan on doing any real, meaningful gaming, you will be severely disappointed in the HDX18T. It is a great system except for the 9600M GT GPU it uses which is quickly heading to the lower end of the GPU scale and even at introduction was a, "mid range," GPU solution.
The W90 smashes the HDX18T Mike Tyson style (Old Mike, not new Mike
).
If gaming is a low to no priority or you don't mind cranking down the details, the HDX18T is a nice unit. But if you want to have any semblance of future gaming at native resolution with eye candy, avoid the HDX18T like the plague. -

The idea you would even "kinda" bring it up shows what kind of person you are. Your an embarrassment to your entire group and this forum, and becoming quite the annoying guy.
Let the dead horse lie dead.
If you even so much as hint at that episode one more time I am reporting you. -
True but gt 130m is also a pretty powerful card. Altough it is not a 260m or 280m, it can still get 8K 3dmark which makes it pretty similar to 8800m gts. Especially if you consider 30% off a system with qx9300+8gb ddr3+blu-ray-rw+1tb hdd costs you less tahn 2.5K. It is a pretty good deal.
-
I could never figure out a way to install the newest CCC where it would show up anywhere in the system, So i think were stuck with the old one regardless .
-
you know what is the w90 best feature ?
You can open the lid with 1 hand without holding the body with the other one, i LOVE that!!!
Look Mom ,1 hand!!
-
Lol thats because its more like a table with a folding screen
You Cant even use the word notebook anywhere in the description of the W90, its a total Hog.

My hing is so tight it will pick up the body with the lid unless you kinda go up and down with it using the inertia and gravity to get extra force.
-
Its the best built laptop ive ever owned period .Solid is not a strong enough word for this thing and no shiny OCD plastic on it is probably my personal favorite feature (aside from the performance).

It's garbage. The CPU saves it score wise.
Run Vantage GPU or just compare the SM2.0/SM3.0 06 scores. I had one, and it was a beautiful system that did everything except game well. I had to scale back a lot even in WoW. -
Ya if i was any kind of gamer i would not consider a 9600gt unless it was in some sort of ultraportable with 1280x800 res. At 1920x1080 though for get about it .
-
Where you been? I've always been "that annoying guy". And I was referring to the first set of drivers ya modded which wouldn't install. Geez, lighten up Mr. Ego
-
Ya know i did a fresh install after a i got the Quad just to test some things and i could never get the drivers(v4's) to load and i really wanted to PM you as it would say windows encounterd a problem etc , i tried every inf and every which way humanly possible to get them to install and nada. Finally after a couple hours of trying literally i installed the stock drivers then had to overinstall the 9.4s on top of them to get it to stick . No clue what the heck was up . Have you ever seen that problem from a fresh OS install with your modded drivers ?.
-
maybe the 9.4 is missing something the stock package has...that happen to some earlier nvidia drivers.
-
Ya thats the only conclusion i could come to as well, just that it seems weird because usually when installing new drivers i would wipe them with driver cleaner then install them, so in theory all things ATI should be gone but there must be something left lingering that lets them install .
-
yeah, but it's not...driver cleaner aint as good as we would like it to be...that goes for driver sweeper too.
just look in this directory and go try to delete one of them ati old drivers and see what it tells you...lol
C:\Windows\System32\DriverStore\FileRepository
do a in file search for ATI or Radeon
then look in each one containing your driver
then dry to delete it. -
Lol i meant driver sweeper
to many years of driver cleaner has left me always using that name . I will have to poke around and see whats left over to know what to do in the future but mainly i just wanted a fresh OS install and fresh set of drivers with no remains of the past set period and i couldnt get it to do it .
-
i use them both because they seem to work better like that..when they do clean the registry, but still unsure if they use the FileRepository to take a short cut to reinstalling files.
-
Well they must be using something left over to an extent from the looks of the problem i encountered . Now that i think about it i grabbed the latest beta of Driversweeper and it cleaned something out to the point where i had a heck of time finally reinstalling drivers on my current OS as well. So he may have changed something in the newest release which is digging abit deeper then before.
-
that driver beta did the same thing to me...lmao!
i had to sort of reinstall the standard vga driver because that program wiped it out or part of it out. -
I got my results from farcry2 but i cant use the snipping tool to grab the whole page of the results because it wont let me scroll down . So here i am trying to figure out how to upload them lol.
-
easy, open it up in IE. -
This is for Dondahdah as i know he was bugging me about getting them up. Quad [email protected].
-
now that is good news!
looks like you gained about 10 fps going from a dual to a quad. -
Ya i thought the results were pretty decent myself .
-
dondadah88 Notebook Nobel Laureate
Thanks alot. and great it seems like everthing is good now with the asus.
-
i think im gonna have to agree. the machine is operational now...just need asus to loosen it's grip on upping the anti is all...
-
throw in some AA there
-
The quad has been amazing so far . Pretty much any game using the unreal engine the frameratess have more the doubled if there not locked@62 fps . Empire total war i picked up another 20-40 fps and the framerates were already awesome on the dualcore. those are just some examples of going to Quad on this machine. I really should have done more before and after shots from the games ive tested that are taking advantage of the Q. But i dont feel like slapping in the old CPU just for that
.
-
I was going to do an AA run but the frame rates are so erratic with 9.4s i didnt bother . From what i have read people with 4870x2s were having massive framerate issues with this driver set and AA.
-
electrosoft Perpetualist Matrixist
I don't think I could run a dual core ever again, unless Apple gave me a 17" Unibody.
And I don't see, "Steve Jobs," coming up on my caller ID.
-
yes, AA. so AA is actually working now and killing both cards...
i thought that was an exclusive nvidia, members only club.LOL
j/k -
Ya i have been running Quads on my desktop now for 2 generations, but you take that for granted until you use a machine that gos from Dual to Quad, then its a pretty decent leap
.
