Be sure to run Driver Sweeper when removing the old drivers Driver Sweeper - CNET Download.com
You will need to run it in Safe Mode (reboot system and repeatedly tap F8 until the menu comes up). Be sure it only searches for and removes the nVidia drivers and related.

Hi all,
I bought a refurbished Asus G72GX back in January 2011 and it has been excellent for the first year or so that I've had it, but recently I've run into a few problems.
First off, my cd driver stopped working about 8 months ago. I've tried a few things and looked things up online, but haven't been able to find a solid solution and any advice would be great.
Secondly, my computer had a virus and I ended up wiping my hard drive and manually re installing most updates and drivers, but I have not been able to get the buttons above the standard keys to work again. Once again, if anyone experienced the same problems/knows a solution, that would be great.
Lastly and most importantly, for the past few months (since around March) I have been encountering a huge drop in framerates while playing some games at a higher quality. With Diablo 3 at lowest quality, for instance, I would get 1 min of perfect quality, and 2 min right after of excruciating lag that made the game unplayable (this lag was the same at high quality oddly enough). It isn't an internet problem as it lagged for Skyrim as well, when just a few months ago I was able to play at the highest quality. Any ideas or suggestions on what I might be able to do to fix this problem especially would be excellent.
Thanks in advance to any replies -
For the framerate drops, first I'd check to make sure the fan was clean. You can access it by taking off the bottom cover. The fan needs to be cleaned out regularly. If you use compressed air to clean the fan. I'd suggest turning off and unplugging the laptop as well as pulling the battery. If the fan is clean and you still get drops, check for high temps and lowered gpu clock speeds when the drops happen. If you have the dual core processor, you can also see if it's maxed out or overheated as well.
That's where I'd start. I hope it helps. -
Thanks for the reply. I'll try it out when I get the chance to pick up some compressed air. As for the cd drive, it's not a big deal for me. I'd rather wait till I get a desktop as most games are available online anyways.
UPDATE: I just cleaned it out yesterday. The vent beside the fan was full of dust. Since cleaning it, it seems to be working great again. Thanks a lot! -
I missed the part about the buttons. You can download the programs for those buttons from Asus I believe or google them. Check out the following link. There's a quote and my reply which may help you. It's only 2 pages back from here in this thread.

Hey,
I just bought a 2,5 Proworx external HDD. It has a USB3 Cabel which can handle USB2. The Problem is, on my Portege R700 the external HDD is recognized and i can save data on it, but my g72gx does not even recognize it, anybody know what the problem could be? Is it the cable? But why does mit R700 recognize it? -
I have a strange issue that happened a few mins ago on my wifes 72GX. I went afk a few mins and came back and the laptop was off and the power adapter had no green light. Unplugged all went to check fuses(they were fine) and plugged back in the charger and the green light came on..plugged it into the laptop and the light goes off and I get no power from it.
This happens over and over as soon as the charger is plugged in it shuts down..no smoke or smell and I cleaned out the dust and reset battery.
Anyone have an idea what this could be? Faulty charger? -

Tried 3 chargers (friends) and they all do the same thing.. So I think the mobo or something is shot on the laptop. Thanks for the advice but I think my wife is out of luck on her old Asus.
-
My second guess is that at some point, the wire was tripped on or pulled which may have broken the solder on the connection of the DC power jack to the mobo. If you know how to take the laptop apart, (there is a video guide on youtube meant to get at the graphics card, but it will do) you may find that this is the case and all you need is to re-solder it. I had that problem on my old Gateway and had to re-solder the connection a few times over the years. I would try plugging everything in and see if moving or wiggling the wire at the connection has any effect. If so, it just might be a broken connection or DC power jack, which is a very easy and inexpensive fix. If the DC power jack itself is broken, you may find one on the net. I know there was a site that sold them a few years back, but I don't remember the name. Just google, "laptop DC power jack" and you should find something. I eventually replaced the DC power jack on the Gateway, and it only cost a few dollars for the part. Good luck! -
The Backlit Keyboard is Not Working with Windows 7 64bit. All Drivers installed and Turbo Gear is installed. All services are on. I tried reinstalling them removing them reinstalling them. Nothing seems to work. Why hasn't there been a fix for this. All I see are threads about people describing the problem and not following up on it. We need to start a class action lawsuit against Asus for this defective piece of .

Is configuring a raid system possible on this laptop?

Question: I was trying to switch out my Nanya PC2-6400 800Mhz RAM stick with a PNY 2GB PC2-6400 800Mhz stick, but all that happens when the computer starts up is a black screen, though power is on. Help!
-
Is there a way to get wifi working even if the switch on the side is faulty. my wifi switch is stiff and will not click into the on pasition. windows keeps saying turn wifi on when i check it. I know the card is working for a fact.

Hi Kastulu, you should have a short on your mobo! that makes the power source shut downs to protect itself (and the mobo). If you have good soldering skills you can try to find the short, if it is a cap replace it with a 10uf or 20uf smd ceramic cap and see how it goes. If you had allready replaced your mobo and still have the old one, I would like to buy it from you.
Good luck

Hello Everyone, can someone know where to buy a screen laptop for my asus g72gx-bbx05. and if is possible to replace it with a 1080x1920. my current resolution it is 1600x900 and my screen is broken, so everywhere i look for it it says you got to replace to your exact screen size that it came by manufacturer default, i just spoke to a guy from that website, [url=http://www.laptopscreen.com,and he was saying to my that is strongly recomended to replace it to the same size and 1600x900, if i going to change it to a 1080x1920 i would like to to replace the, lcd screen video flex cable because i had it plenty of white screen ficlekings!!!, so if i replace it to a 1080x1920 would like to fix those flickeings too!!!
thanks so much in advance!!! -
I'm not sure if you've solved this issue but I had the exact same problem. Get the exact same screen, especially if you had that annoying screen flicker prior. I got one off amazon for $40 after trying a generic one that came with an additional ribbon cable because the connection was on the wrong side. It was a nightmare.

Hi folks, hopefully someone can help me. I replaced my hard drive with a 320g 7200 (lower memory was a money saver). Reloaded windows 7 64-bit (a clean install is awesome, btw). I downloaded the drivers per Asus but something just ain't right.
First: powering down, screen goes blank but the CPU continues to run and keyboard stays lit up, 80% of the time it will stay like that and then reload back to windows, the other 20% and I have to hard power off. Occasionally when I reboot and just get a black screen with a cursor blinking and I have to remove all power (cord and battery) to get it to boot.
Second: gaming performance is way down. Sometimes it's so bad the video will lag and I'll get this weird sound blurb.
Thirdly: also only when gaming, whether the video/sound is cooperating or not, any text has a high chance of double tapping a keystroke. This only occurs when gaming as I've typed all this and not had one incident.
Final: the fan is blowing like mad, again only when gaming.
What I've done: opened up the back and blew everything out though there was not a lot of dust in there.
Also I followed Asus DL instructions in order but I didn't restart after each driver install when prompted, just did them all and restarted at the end.
Any suggestions? I'm not too software savvy.

Anyone know where I can find a verified replacement ADP-150NB D AC Adapter for my G72GX-RBBX05? Item 04G266009903946003709. I don't want to get screwed again. with a mislabelled product
Problem:
I ordered this product, Amazon.com: Delta Original 150W 19.5V 7.7A AC Power Adapter Replacement For Asus Model Numbers: Asus G72Gx-A1, Asus G72Gx-Rbbx05, Asus G72Gx-Rbbx09, Asus G72Gx-X1, Asus G73J, Asus G73Jh, Asus G73Jh-A1, Asus G73Jh-A2, Asus G73Jh-B1, Asus G73Jh-BST7, A as a replacement for my Asus's Delta ADP-150NB D ac/dc adapter (item 04G266009903946003709, with a barrel connector, which is the item showed in the picture). I received a delta ADP-150RB B adapter with a larger barrel connector that didn't fit. (Model: DA150PM100-00. DPN: J408P). This is not only different than the product pictured, but it is incompatible as a replacement for ADP-150NB D items 04G266009903*, because the DCInput connector is wrong.
The ac/dc adapter I own looks exactly like the item here:
Asus ADP-150NB D laptop ac adapter store, ASUS 19.5V 150W adapters for canada : CA Battery Store, canada laptop batteries, laptop adapters for Dell,HP,Asus,Acer,Sony,Apple ...
except the barrel connector is straight, not L shaped (same size though I'm pretty sure) and the label is CC: A Rev: 03
Please help me out. BTW I'm American -
Heii Guys,
I have encountered a small problem. I have bought the new Tomb Raider Game and I would like to run it on my G72 on normal settings. But the problem is that my notebook just crashes after some minutes of gameplay (the screen goes black and then the laptop shuts down). First i thought it may be overheating, but since the gpu has a temp about 85°C and the CPU about 64°C i don't think that is the problem. (I also played DMC 5 some weeks ago for some hours and it didn't crash).
I did also some research and read that there is a problem with nvidia gpus. But since I bought it from Steam the game should be up to date and i just updated my gpu driver...
So do you guys know any solution for this?
Kind regards -
Hey guys, I have had my G72gx for a couple years now, never had any problems besides slow downs in frames when playing games. Which was quick fixed by giving it a good dust clean
. Well I have a big problem now! Every time I am playing a game or even in skype. My computer just freezes. If I leave it alone for about 2-4 mins It comes back and I can continue to play a game or recall someone in skype. It's getting to the point where it happens sometimes every 10-20 mins, to every 5 mins, and sometimes I can go hours!
Any suggestions would be amazing because I would hate to have to get something new! =( -

Hey All,
So I was reading through the numerous numerous posts about overheating issues people are experiencing. I experience them as well. I saw the way ren3g7ade has his RAM sinks mounted inside the chassis. Read about the use of copper shims etc when doing a re-paste. I had an idea, but wasn't sure if anyone had tried it yet.
What about removing the aluminum heatsink from the graphics card completely. Then replace each point of contact with its own RAM copper heatsink. With the additional clearance you could purchase the taller heatsinks and grind/cut them down to a height where they barely don't touch the panel when it is placed back on. Of course, still add the sinks to the copper piping. I would also mount as many as I could fit on the bracket in the center (the one that holds the GPU heatsink on from the backside.
It seems like placing the copper heatsinks on the fins of the aluminum one would be pretty inefficient. I understand that there would probably be a loss of surface area for cooling after removing the aluminum heatsink, but do you think the gain of having straight copper directly on the components would be worth it? There would also be an additional airflow across the board itself with the larger sold heatsink out of the way.
I'd love to hear some thoughts and opinions on the subject. I someone has already suggested this idea then I must have missed it, there are A LOT of pages to this thread. Also, if someone did ever successfully create a copper version of the aluminum heatsink I'd like to hear about it.
Thanks!

Appreciate your help, thanks! -

So long as the cable is the right one it should work, there is no reason for them to use different motherboard circuitry between the models and especially so if his was the low res screen and went to the higher one.

Hi gang.
I'm running G71G and recently I had some problems with multiplier. Laptop is running T9400@2,53GHz and PLL: ICS9LPRS929AKLF.
Can someone provide me with default settings from SetFSB for both TME (Register9, bit6)and PCI2 (Register2, bit2)? I'd appreciate it.

Have you tried using throttlestop to control it?

Would anyone with the ASUS g72gx Laptop be kind enough to grab the Blu Ray Drive Driver for me with Double Driver ( BooZet Freeware | Double Driver - backup and restore installed drivers) and upload here? I'll pay $5 via Pay Pal if the driver works.
I reinstalled Windows 7 64 bit from scratch and found all drivers from ASUS website expect for that one.
In device manager I see "hl-dt-st bddvdrw ct21n with the Microsoft 2006 driver installed. Discs I put into drive show empty, so i assume i don't have correct driver installed. -
