I've used the backpack everyday going to work with it. It's not tight at all.
It's very easy to get it in quickly, easy to get out easily. There is room for space between the top of the laptop and the top of the backpack. There is enough room to put in a few large textbooks.
In the other zipper more than enough room to stuff the powerpack, large headphones (Audio Technica AD900), a small book to read on the train, and a small container for lunch.
The backpack does what it's meant to do. It's not hiking backpack, but no problems with the laptop and the above.
-
I think that would... You'd just have to be careful not to stick it before you got the connector pushed in to place.
Maybe some thick-ish velcro would work too, and be at least a little easier to remove.
I went to MicroCenter at lunch, and looked around at some HD enclosures and brackets and whatnot, but didn't see anything that looked like it would be close enough to working to try. -
If you look around, both of those ebay things say either ETA feb 18th or mar 4. I don't think either of them have them in stock.
-
I think I found a tray from an old inspiron 3800 that I can make work... Will require some tin snips, pliers, and a drill, but I think it should work well once I'm done.
Of course, I won't even get to try for 6-7 more hours. :\
-
Good news, I'll add that one to my list of new games to buy along with Battlefield Bad Company 2 and the Razor Death Adder.
Oh ya time to replace my router with 802.11 n
Anyone have more recomendations.. -
Wow Sleey0, giving you + rep on that bag suggestion. They've already shipped out my order with free Fedex delivery!
-
We should start a g73 battle field 2 clan and TAKE OVER THE WORLD!
-
Im in!
/tenchar -
Sounds good to me!!!
-
I'm down! Haven't played a battlefield game in so long though lol
-
I'm in too.
On a side note, I have not heard from Euisungkim in a while. Either UPS found their way to his house through the snow, or he got lost in the blizzard searching for the truck on foot. -
Slappa makes good stuff and is very prompt.
I am sure you'll like it
-
I'm sure I will too.
The styling and overall quality sucked me in.
Are we taking bets?
-
$5 on lost in the blizzard!!
jokes. i'm too broke for bets! -
Could have sworn I mentioned Slappa first.
Did you grab the Matrix or the Spyder? I went with the Spyder myself.
If you have any problems, you can also contact them for warranty repairs and etc. Did you mention that you're an NBR member? The owner is a official reseller here and has offered discounts to NBR members previously.
I bought my two Slappas from an unauthorized dealer and was thus not covered by the warranty, but Dom very kindly offered me a 50% off if I wanted a replacement. -
Oop, you might've. So like uhm... + rep too! I went with the Spyder. ACK, I didn't know about discounts!
-
Rofl. No need for rep.
Try to PM Dom here, he might be able to give you a small discount. I think it was 5-15% the last time. I'll look up his ID.
Edit: http://forum.notebookreview.com/member.php?u=64501
It's definitely less utilitarian looking than the Targus bag included with the G73jh, but it's also a bit larger. -

Not sure he still frequents these boards.... -
Well, then consider the rep for that then.
Hopefully Dom can apply a discount, but if not I'm still psyched about the bag.
*edit* Dammit sleey0, you killed my buzz. -
Yea, I noticed, but you usually get a email message about PMs. So that might help.
Regular roller coaster here.

Hi All,
Been spot checking this thread for a while and I'm already seriously considering upgrading from my G51VX-X3A to a G73JH (probably wait for the A1). I've already "accepted" the fact of the bump in form-factor from a 15.6" to 17.3" and a bump in about a 1 lbs. in weight. Basically, I carry both my G51VX-X3A and Acer 1810T to and from work in a single backpack (in different compartments) and I'll probably finally "segment" the Acer 1810T into its own laptop bag.
So I'm just curious if there are any G51 owners that have "upgraded" to the G73... and what are your thoughts? Did the bump in size and weight bother you? Anything you've noticed or should be pointed out?
Thanks in advance!
Cheers,
Kermee -
Euisungkim and I are doing exactly that. We both had the G51J and sold them for this model. We should both have them tomorrow and can examine the differences.
-
Awesome! Congrats to both of you!
I eagerly await your thoughts and impressions!
G51J's... so you guys will have the same CPU as the G73JH's, correct?
Cheers,
Kermee -
Yes. We both went with the 720.
-
You guys are two peas in a pod
-
True!
-
You switched to an A2?
-
Evensen007
Did you received your G73 yet? I pre-ordered on 1/5/10. I hope I will be able to get it around the same time as you and Euisungkim.
but currently the ETA pushed to mar 2. =/
-
You guys have really good patience.
I wouldn't wait 2 months for any laptop
-
I had to. If I waited for the A1, I wouldn't get one until possibly March. I will add the Blu ray later.
Where did you pre-order from? We are both getting it tomorrow (unless a miracle happened and the snowbanks near kim's house parted like the red sea for the UPS truck. Last time I checked though, Kim looked Asian and bore no resemblance to Moses).
You may want to call and see if you can get an A2 allotment since you did pre-order so early on. That's why I was able to get one of the few initial A2's that Xotic got in.
I probably wouldn't again! haha -
I'm home and no package. UPS truck was leaving the neighborhood while I was entering it.
-
Maybe he knew you weren't there (car, etc)?
That blows.... -
Should've turned around and chased him!
-
My wife was home. She said he stopped at a couple of neighbor houses and left.
-
Weird.
I really don't like UPS. Too bad the el-cheapo shipping wasn't Fedex
-
Different UPS truck for the overnight stuff?
-
Could be.
In my small town, there are 2 different fedex trucks, and at least 2 different UPS trucks.
Did your status change on the tracking site? -
Let me know if I left anything out.
-
Newbs like me looking to order a G73JH-A1... I called Gentech to get an ETA on a ship date before I ordered online and she said early March. Bummer, I'd like it sooner so I'm going to call some of the other resellers.
-
No, still the same. My town is 150K people.
-
I HATE UPS!!
-
Yeah, just saying Chi town probably has 30 UPS trucks
lol
-
yeah, FedEx really let me down today...I can't really blame them too much since it was basically blizzard conditions here in Northern Virginia. Here's to hoping it comes tomorrow.
-
My "city" is technically considered a village now. :-/ Probably less than 1,000 people in the city, but many many more county-wide.
-
Weird. some people around me (5minutes away) got it and I didn't.
I called them right now and they said they'll call me back in an hour. I'll see what happens. I hate UPS. -
I have kind of a dumb question here. I know in the desktop Catalyst drivers there is a setting under "Displays" I think that allows you to adjust ATI's equivalent of Digital Vibrance. Avivo is what it is called.
For the life of me, I can't find that setting in the Catalyst drivers that came with the X1. Is this setting not available in the mobile Catalysts? -
I am now officially an owner of the G73! (X1) Am loading it up for the first time, so I'm typing on my desktop. Man this thing is huge! First big laptop for me. I love it so far though obviously it's too early to tell much yet.
I just RMA'd my extended Newegg warranty since it's got a 2 year warranty on it, so I saved $100 there. Definitely helps bring the cost down.
Hopefully I'll post more on it later!
-
Congrats dude, hope you love it!
-
So, I assume since this thing comes with the Standards Asus 2 year warranty, that the extended warranty through NewEgg would then cover this thing out to 4 years? Seeing as it says that it begins once the manufacturer warranty ends...
