Background:
The screen quality is the most important factor in my notebook purchase. I want a 1080p 17" LED. What I'm looking for is simple. I want the best screen available. Finding it is the hard part. I owned a Dell Studio 1747 with the 1080p B+RG LED but had to return it due to the infamous 7 beeps of death issue. However, the screen was just stunning. So I've been watching the G73JH for a while now. All the fantastic hardware on this model is a huge bonus but what I really need to know is...
How is the screen? Is it the most stunning 17" 1080P screen available? How does it compare to Dell's B+RG?
Thanks!

FUUUUgh! Raced home earlier to find a "delivery halted due to emergency conditions" message on both my G73 and HD, rescheduled to tomorrow. UPS fails.
Oh well, will give me more time to figure out how to Macgyver the HD bay -
Mine never showed up.
-
What does your tracking say?
You should call UPS and they can get a hold of the driver for you to see what happened. -
-
Just asking -
-
Seriously, call UPS.
I know in some areas UPS can deliver up until 9pm so you may have a chance if you act quickly. -
-
-
It's not a big deal, although you paid a premium for overnight shipping.
That would irk me big timeNot so much non-delivery, but the cost.

WOW! Some dudes just bought Battle Field Bad Company 2 for $19 from Barnes and Nobles. Deal is over though.
- It's through Gamestop. So they already received notice they can pick it up from a Gamestop when it's released. Incredible, had to have been a mistake but seems B&N will honor it.
Personally I'm waiting for Steam to have Borderlands on some deal that includes both the DLCs for like $25. -
-
Damn. I really wanted the laptop today. I guess I'll be getting it tomorrow morning or something. But where I live I usually get it around 4~7pm which sucks a$$. -
Yep.
UPS always comes late for me too -
How long did it take for Newegg to post your tracking number? Mine shipped this morning but still not tracking information.
-
About 10pm, IIRC.

Well here is my update on my G73JH A2 with the failed keyboard.
I sent the unit back this morning. After reading the thread today I grew quite conserned with the delay. Called ASUS Customer Service and was told the following:
If ASUS has a reserve stock, for customer service issues, I will have a new unit by the end of the week. 1 day turn around.
If they have no stock available, then I will recieve a phone call from them and be given the choice of waiting for stock arrival or having the keyboard replaced.
After catching up on the thread... I will choose the keyboard replacement with a chance of getting it before next weekend.
Wish me luck.
I will say that the customer service rep was very good, which gives the confidence I will be taken care of.
Good luck to everyone else recieveing their units -

Here's an interesting Romanian review that is translated called "Asus G73 - a very good reason not to buy Alienware":
http://translate.google.com/transla...-nu-ti-cumperi-alienware-5470011/&sl=ro&tl=en -
G73JH-A2 (with 80 gb SSD) from Gentech didn't make it today. Damn snow.
Getting it tomorrow morning though! -
-
Anyway, back to the original question...
Does the G73JG have the best 1080P LED screen on the market? How does it compare to the Dell 17.3" 1080P B+RG LED?
Thoughts? -
Those battery reports are better than I expected even though the reviewer isn't impressed: "I played Modern Warfare 2 and Far Cry 2 for an hour without power from the outlet." " I ran a full HD video for over an hour and 20 minutes."
He didn't like the glossy screen which I'd agree with. I'd pay real money for a matte option. -

grats to everyone who got their A2 and X1 models!!!
However, after scrolling through nearly 20 pages, there has been very little information on A1. Even the resellers (I know they are real busy) seem to have disappeared into thin air.
Does anyone have updated information on A1 availability? The 17th Feb ETA is completely out of question? -
I was going to throw in the towl and call and order the Alien Ware desktop when i read that Romanian review the title was a sign from God
-

Hey I actually Pm'd Ken from Gentech and he said that we will all find out on the 17th weather or not there are A1 shipments coming in. He said if it is delayed again he thinks it would be due to a BR drive shortage since A2's and X1's are available and allrdy in people's homes.
Its frustrating preordering the first model that they released yet there are 2 other models announced after and yet they are the first ones available lol. Lets both keep our fingers crossed for the 17th and maybe we will luck out -
If you had preordered early enough, why not just switched to the A2? If that didn't work for you, why not just get the A2 or X1 from newegg?
Seriously I do not understand why anyone would have been holding out for an A1 after being given so many chances to get their laptop before March/April.
EDIT: nvm I see Australia and I'm assuming that has something to do with it. Sorry mate -

This caddy may work can an owner please varafy this thanks. -
I dont' want X1 because I want CPU /SSD /Thermal Compound upgrade
Hope that clears up the confusion
-
It is very very strange how he still doesn't know what stock is incoming in 6 days time -
-
-
Yea I hope we have some good news too. He said I was one of the first 10 preorders for this thing so ive certainly waited long enough lol. Yea it is strange to me too I figured he could just give ASUS a ring and see what the deal is but I guess it must be more complicated than that -
Lucky guys!!!!

Is Quad around? I've been stealthly lurking around this fourm for weeks wouldn't let me post LOL great picks and reviews and info from all I have been in the game for thirty years and the specks in thes lappy are awsome something you would expect to pat over $2100.00 for by my estimates so who ever gets this machine in whatever configuration the get it in is getting a great deal I chose the X-1 as the A-1 doesn't come with a blueray burner figured I could get a plextor and be able to burn bluerays and still do my GD+G karaoke stuff too lol. Great fourm and awsome machine.
-
Good luck! I hope the stock comes in on the 17th! -
allan,
Replacing the Blu ray drive in the laptop won't be hard at all. Most new sata blu ray drives use the same 3 clamp bezel that are now universal. You can always buy one after the fact and I will even put up a guide or video on how to change it out on your laptop if you need it. -
The G73JH-A2 is a $1550 machine. You can't expect the "Best" of everything. They provide the best ram upgrade I've seen so far, the best mobile GPU, the best HDD whether you go 7200 HDD or a SSD, one of the best battery life of a performance laptop (probably is the best, I got 2 hours, 30 minutes surfing the net). They keyboard looks great, the g/f wants the laptop for that along, but the number keypad is a bit squished. But it's easy to type on and relatively quiet. The cooling system is good enough to overclock the GPU and memory clock by 100 and play stable for hours.
After all that is the screen the best? Probably not since it's not an RGB. But considering I sit right in front of the laptop, I see no horizontal or vertical problems. I don't stand over it, squat below it or look at from the left or right. In that sense it's perfect for me. I love it.
Oh the price is the best. I can't find anything even close in pricing. Even the MSI, after upgrading to same spec as the G73 it's more expensive and the screen still worse.
-
I might give Ken a ring now and see if there is still any possibility of changing to A2. Although I did ask him from memory and he told me that all the A2 are gone as well. -
That battery life sounds solid to me! Good to get some real world figures! I freakin' can't wait to get my hands on this thing! It's too perfect for me!
