Ah thanks, good to know. Then the one on the Asus eStore should be a perfect match.

Says that's for the G72gx....I assume that's what you have?
-

Yes, I have both. A G73jh-X1 and a G72-RBBX05. Both AC adapters are the same model number.
-
That's a great price. I may pick an extra one up... -
Too bad the HD caddy isn't compatible as well.

Thanks again.
Indeed, a BR will take some cpu/gpu work. It's king of inbetween looking at the internets and playing Crysis as far as puter power imo.

Hi All! Just returned my Dell Studio XPS 1645 due to the infamous throttling problem... Really really tempted by the G73 but can someone comment on the Build Quality and Cooling Efficiency of this machine? Dare not bite the bullet before I get this clarified... Performance wise I think the benchmarks says it all...
Thanks in advance! -

I'm still not totally sure what this Asus turbo mode is that bumps it 50-100MHz giving you the 1.7GHz across all 4 cores.

Edit: Just looked at Kens video again and it is the Asus turbo (a.k.a. Easy Over Clock) in the BIOS option. Now I wonder how the i7 turbo is supposed to work. Oh well, I'm a day away from getting into it myself, but I can see that lappyland is seriously neutered from deskyland. -
thought I'd ask how the computer looks.
I've seen pictures and it made the laptop look very plain. Ugly even. Are the feelings about the looks different from the reviewers? does it look better in person? -

Set everything to high, turned AA and AX off. Have my gpu slightly overclocked. Appeared to be running in the 40-60 fps range. Was smooth as silk. -
Hey Vicious or anyone who knows what is that screen testing program you are using in those monitor pics?

I would marry it.. but I'm easy that way

I used to use another program that I like even better but forgot what it was and never have found it again.
Me and that program have spent a lot of time together, im super anal about monitor quality and for my 3x monitor setup at home it took me a week to calibrate and match he color between all 3 monitors. -
Displaymate works pretty good.

But when I got it after about 2 days of having it I was already really liking it. I went through the same thing with the W90 before I got it.
Whats best about the G73 is that it looks uniqe enough to not just be plain and boring, its no squire brick like a sager often is, but its not flashy like a portable disco ball with a built in cpu so it fits all occasions and all manner of people.
Id not be embarrassed to show up with his wearing suite & tie at a business meeting, nor would I feel out of place with it at some hip gamer lan party.
The size/weight are great, and the light up keyboard is quite nice too. -
I dig the looks of it. They're unique yet understated so I don't feel like I have to start doing l33tsp33k when I carry the damn thing around. -

If it wasn't for the G73's looks and cooling design, I would likely still be shopping for something that was designed for my taste.
As far as the bag goes, I think Asus did a wonderful job keeping it from being something someone would need shades to look at and it fits the style and class look of the G73, but it would just sit in my closet as I need to keep it business looking and I have a business looking case for it.

It does look bad tho.
*Edit* sorry I'm totally off topic but it's late here -
"The Tumbler? Oh, you wouldn't be interested in that..." -
Does anyone know which HDMI version is present on G73JH?, not having displayport on such notebook is a shame

No, but the good news is if you dont die at least your notebook will be covered by the accidental damage warranty.
I'll know you tried next time I watch man vs wild and bear grylls jumps down a waterfall and then finds a G73 and a corpse floating around.

My upgraded A2 is due Tuesday from Xoticpc. I plan to take a day off from work to do all the uploads, updates, configs, game installs, etc. based on suggestions here.
I got Blu-ray to be able to watch whatever when traveling and what's the point of 1080p screen if you don't play 1080p movies.
This thread has been EXTREMELY helpful with making the most of this purchase. Thanks to all. -

I am very anxious to get the A1 model as well, but it looks like the earliest day for reseller in Toronto is early March... -
ViciousXUSMC Master Viking NBR Reviewer
A2 has blueray software.
I see no problem in waiting for the A1 but I didnt need the bluray i never used it even one time on my W90 so I saved like $100 almost. Plus is was only a BR player. If I ever get into BR I want a burner too, so may as well save the $100 now with the A2 and later put in a BR burner. -
to those who were going to join me in the new thread "Lonely A1 owners' Asylum"...
sorry, I have deserted you. I am now getting A2 with the CPU/SSD/Blueray/Thermal Compound upgrade and having it shipped next Tuesday
Good luck with A1, I hope ASUS make the Blueray available soon so your machine can be shipped! -
ViciousXUSMC, since you brought it up couple days ago, wanna ask what is the initial HD partition for both 500 HD?
20/80 on both?
After you use the partition software, are you able to maintain Asus's own partition for "recovery"? -
ViciousXUSMC Master Viking NBR Reviewer
the 2nd drive is 50/50 but the OS drive was split something different closer to 30/70 for my review I am installing like 20 games so I needed more C: space. You CAN install games on another partition but it makes no sense because if your OS gets corrupted and you have to install it again the games installed on another partition wont work anymore and have to be installed again so I always keep games on the C: and everything else that is not a game/program goes somewhere else.
I never use the my documents/downloads or any of those folders since they are on the c: (you can remap them but no need, they are just folders so I just make new folders somewhere else on a separate partition or drive)
There is also a hidden partition on the OS drive I think about 14GB its a recovery partition.
Between the actual recovery disk, the recovery partition, and the fact that there is a backup & restore program asus includes installed on the machine they must really want to make sure you have that stuff covered... -
so that partition wizard software are able to merge the OS drive without raping the hidden recovery partition?
-
ViciousXUSMC Master Viking NBR Reviewer
I just deleted the 2nd partition on each drive and then expanded the main partition to fill the entire disk space (and left the recovery partition alone, I dont need it but only 14gb/500gb is no big deal) -
