Wouldn't putting foil under the keyboard potentially block air from entering inside? Even though most of the air is sucked in through the mesh above the keyboard, I'm pretty sure some air is sucked in through the keyboard itself.
I'd leave the keyboard as is and adjust your typing style. You will get use to the keyboard after a while.
-
For anyone who thinks the air comes from the top, remove the top casing of the system. You will see there is no where for air to travel. It's all blocked off.
-
If you are looking for top reviewed games go to www.gamerankings.com they take all the reviews and give an average score, and they also give links if you want to read a specific review.
-
yeah, I dont think there is any air entering through the keyboard...if you use the foil trick, it's advisable to cut holes in the foil that match up with any holds between the keyboard and the tray it sits in, just in case.

Dude, try gametrailers.com They are said to know nothing about PC gaming but i trust their opinion more than any other by far.

And here is Spike video game awards.

The sole reason i am getting this laptop is for Aion and Battlefield Bad Company 2. Aion is not as bad as you think! It is going for a graphics update and many other goodies too. Check out the aion vision trailer.

Needless to say, watch in HD.
The rest i completely agree. L4D is a joke, and other games in that list are way overrated. -
I have no problems with this keyboard. I'm thinking maybe some people need to strengthen their fingers or increase their dexterity?
-
I dont know....if I type a little harder, it doesn't seem to be much of a problem, but that's kinda besides the point. I should not have to adjust my typing style that much. I mean, I dont think it will end up being that much of a problem, because i'm out of school and don't really plan on using the G73 to be typing papers or anything, but if that were going to be a primary use for someone, I think I'd be a little more upset with the keyboard. I'm just putting this out there because i'm sure someone will want that information.
Other than this small issue, I love this thing so far. I played the Bad Company 2 beta on it last night for about an hour at 1920x1080 1xAA, 1xAF all settings on high, and it ran like a champ. I didnt check the FPS, but there really wasn't much if any noticeable slowdown. I ran AMD GPU Clock tool for temps the whole time and when I was done, I had an average of I think 77, 85, 75 or something in that realm. Max on the core was never above 80...I think. The bottom of the laptop was actually cool almost, even after all of that, so that's amazing. -
i doubt someone would buy a g73 to type papers on.
and I like firmer keyboards, makes it less likely for me to hit a random key than some of those other hair-trigger keyboards. -
firm?
the keys on the g73 are pretty soft, imo. -
i was just assuming, getting mine tomorrow, people were saying you had to press the keys harder.
-
You have to press them harder because they're soft and the keyboard tray flexes too much. It has nothing to do with them being firm. I think next on Asus's list of issues to tackle (now that it seems they figured out cooling) is the issue of making a decent keyboard. I hope to god their Eee Keyboard or w/e the heck that keyboard with the screen is that they're making isn't this bad...hahah.
-
I would agree with Sleepy0, the keys are very soft. I only suggested pressing harder as a few had trouble pressing the keys. I don't know what to suggest hockeydude35 other than maybe he should buy a MacBook or a different laptop instead if the keyboard is giving him such problems.
- I'd also take his complaints with a grain of salt as I disagree with him on just about all his complaints.
- Wait until you have the laptop in front of you and decide for yourself.
I just did a quick typing test on the G73 keyboard: TEST LINK
No mistakes and did decently fine on wpm. On the paragraph above, if you make a mistake, the letter you typed wrong would show up red.
- Personally think there is nothing wrong with this keyboard. It works great, looks great, feels great and the g/f here wants this laptop for the sole reason she loves the keyboard, better than her Toshiba.
- Going from my old keyboard it took a few minutes to get used to this one. But once I did, it's awesome.
-
LOL...I love how you tell everyone to take my comments with a grain of salt, when there is someone else a page back who agreed with me, that the T and Y keys aren't registering when typing with fairly normal pressure.
Nice typing test though. And, for the record, I thought about buying a Macbook, but I prefer Windows for a laptop...plus I wanted a computer that I know I can upgrade myself. Like I said, I love this machine otherwise, but there are some people out there that want to know about things such as keyboard issues, and clearly i'm not the only one who's having them, so I think it's at least worth mentioning...no need to get snarky. -
I personally think your complaints about the keyboard are highly exaggerated and letting future owners know that. They can decide for themselves once they have the laptop themselves. I have no problems with the T and the Y, none whatsoever. Not even a little bit of trouble.
-
I wish some others would chime in on this....It's kind of hard to judge if there really is any issue here when there are only 2 people who have mentioned that they've had trouble and 1 who hasn't. Anyone else out there experiencing any typing issues on the G73 keyboard?
-
No issues here.
Slight flex in certain areas but the keys themselves are great, -
Stealth bomber W Notebook Enthusiast
This may be redundant but as most people are use to typing on different keyboards there natuarly going to view the ease of use of a new keyboard differently based on what there use to no one said that the keyboard didn't work just that they were having issues manipulating the keys by typing in the manner they are use to. For instance I'm currently typing on my IPhone and if I can do that this keyboard should be a breeze LOL
-
It's no Thinkpad keyboard.
-
Stealth_Bomber_W makes a very valid point. So, let me revise...if you're used to typing on an Apple Keyboard...you may very well hate the G73's keyboard for prolonged typing situations, such as chatting, forum posting or paper writing...haha.
-
Keyboard is fine for me
TY key test: tytytytytytytyty -
The Envy is supposed to be HP's flagship and is priced accordingly, yet that keyboard was the cheapest feeling I have ever used.
So, I'd say the G73's is on par for the price
-
for the x1 owners, here is solid deal on a backpack if you dont mind the XPS written on it.
http://www.buy.com/prod/17-gaming-n...enues-wenger/q/loc/108/212810132.html#cRevSec -
I've got that backpack and it's huge.
-
Most 17" backpacks are huge. lol
I am sure it's worth the $29.99 buy.com is selling it for though. -
Mandrake, will the backpack hold the laptop and a bunch of other stuff like a normal backpack? I have been carrying around my work laptop in a regular backpack on flights for years (with books/clothes/etc). Do you think you can squeeze this laptop in with a decent amount of other stuff so I can continue to do the same?
-
Yes. I it will hold my M17x, G73 and both power adapters.
-
I need some Help the deciding factor in buying this or not is if you guys think this will play the new Star wars game http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DOvbv-LkK6w.I have heard games like this are really demanding.
-
Well considering this is 95% the best laptop out there for gaming, if it can not handle it at medium to high settings, then nothing currently will be able to most likely...
-
For those still looking for one of these little monsters, macmall (go figure) has both the A1 and A2 versions in stock.
http://www.macmall.com/p/ASUS-Notebook-Computers/product~dpno~8049882~pdp.gahgifb
I just started using mine and, on first impression, it's an amazing laptop. The keyboard is very, very similar to the one on the w90. Wouldn't be surprised if it's the same parts. The design is great, much thinner and lighter than I was expecting. -
The second link is the G72gx-A1, NOT the A1 everyone here wants
-
0100 1010 0101 0011 Notebook Evangelist
Why does their A1 have a Q9000?
EDIT: Good catch! -
is macmall reliable?
-
Yes. The Apple gnomes charge you for an Asus G73 and then send you a macbook pro. They then charge your credit card for the 1000 dollar difference for half the computer. The ghost of Steve Jobs then whispers in your ear every night while you sleep convincing you that your new macpro is really a G73 while you wonder why you can't run any games and your warranty runs out in 6 months. Are they reliable!? What do you think!?
-
Not according to this.
-
I don't know if they're reliable, but they are the same as PCMall which also appears to have it in stock. http://www.pcmall.com/s?rch&q=asus g73jh&includeImage=true
-
Hah, wouldn't be surprised if the G73 arrived with a subliminal phrase repeating under audio tracks "you want a mac. people will like you more..."
But yes, they are a very reliable retailer, at least for Apple products. -
LMAO! you made me laugh
-
To be precise, they have the A2 in stock, and for $30 less then NewEgg. The A1 is still MIA, and prevailing opinion is because Asus has experienced delays in getting the BluRay players to put in 'em. That's ok with me for now, as I don't find out how much my income tax refund will be until Wednesday evening.
That gives me more time to try to convince myself that I don't NEED this much laptop and would be fine spending $1k less for what I do need. However, when I get an I WANT, it's hard to ignore it...
Hmm, with that $1k, I could get a ported throttle body and intake manifold and a dyno tune done on my GTO. Damn, choices, choices....so many wants, so little money.
-
seems like powernotebooks also appears to have them in stock.. for them having "IC Diamond Thermal Compound - CPU + GPU FREE w/CPU Upgrade" I just placed an order from them with wireless 5100
-
Argh, I am so tempted but Macmall's reseller ratings stink: http://www.resellerratings.com/store/MacMall#reviews
Still holding out for with my A1 from Gentech...
-
PowerNotebooks is a great reseller as well according to people who have ordered from them on this forum.
-
Donald at powerotebooks is a great guy and will go the extra mile
-
^^
Yes, so far so good with PNB for me. A long wait (that's not quite over yet), but apparently "my" G73 has arrived (at PNB) - an A2 - and is being converted to an -A1 (BD combo added, along with a couple other additions). Hopefully should be enroute to me early this week. As usual though, of course we'll wait and see what really happens?! -
Thanks for the link. Just bought it.
Warning to others...the majority of 17" notebook backpacks i've tried have not worked because of how deep the laptop is. -
I tried intalling AMD GPU clock tool v0.9.26 and it caused my my computer to crash. I ended up having to do a clean install to get Windows 7 to stop freezing.
Did I do something wrong or was this some kind of freak accident? I downloaded it from 3D guru and it said it was compatible with the 5870... but for now I am assuming that I downloaded the wrong version. So fair warning to anyone looking to download the GPU clock tool, make sure you get the right version or you could end up like me.
Thankfully the clean install seems to have done the trick and everything appears good as new... -
so all resellers are now back to doing CPU upgrades? What about the story it being too hard?
-
Seeing that PowerNotebooks is charging $125 to do it to the stock CPU versus the ~$35 they were charging, it's not that it's too hard, it's just time-consuming and, like anyone, they want to be fairly compensated for their time/effort.
-
I don't think so all the resellers are doing it, i saw this option only on powernotebooks.com.
Anyway, ''What about the story it being too hard?
'' is good a question.
PS: What CPU they are upgrading for? 820QM? I didn't understand ''free CPU upgrade'', because we still have to pay $575.00 for 820QM when customising. -
the option to upgrade CPU is also still available on Gentechpc's website.
I read some where that Xopticpc is also offering CPU upgrade too.
Anyway, my guess is that it's all due to competition.
So powernotebooks is charging $125 labour fee to upgrade the CPU? -
Oh god....what were you guys saying about this thing staying cool?
lol...obviously a glitch of some sort...pretty sure my desk would be on fire right now.
