EZflash did not work with USB stick, this is mentioned in the help section of EZflash.
My Bios version is 207. I did not try 209 or 212 version since I do not have problem so far. By the way, I am running XP SP3, and there is a periodic disk activity (about every 0.5s) that I cannot determine yet the source. Filemon/Diskmon from Sysinternals did not help much, I believe I have to progressively deactivate some processes to investigate.
Edit (add) :
For the continuous disk activity problem, I disable Terminal services, that helps a little (less lsass.exe I/O activity), but the hard disk light is still in periodic activity as before.

Hi there..
i have a problem with my laptop..it seems that my fingerprint sensor is suddenly not working. I used to be able to log in using my fingerprint but now i have to type in my password..sigh
i've tried reinstalling the fingerprint driver that was posted here but its still now working..
i've also tried uninstalling and reinstalling the security manager but still it didnt work!..
then..i tried to find the driver in the device manager folder..i cant find anything that has fingerprint/biometric on the drivers
Did i somehow accidentally delete my driver?? -

1. Plug in your Asus Disk
2. Reboot, restore
3. Plug in your driver disk
4.Reboot with brand new OS, test the reader.
If it does not work, I will state the obvious: it broke.
-
Backup your data on the 1st partition, and, if you plan to format the entire HDD ("recover to entire HDD" options) also on the other partitions; before you follow Wishmaker's suggestion.
-
What he said
. I should have mentioned that. Sorry
.
-
lol.. im not so keen on reformatting my hd now coz i dont have some of my installation cds with me..will do it next month
thanks for the help and the tips though!
hope its not broken! -
. I am waiting for the weekend to do it again
. I love installing VISTA
. It installs faster than the drivers
.
-
LOL - when reading about all these wonderful windows (both XP and Vista) problems I keep wondering why on earth people keep using it.
I've never had any problems like those described on Linux.
Oh well, I guess old habits die hard. -
.
Why do people use Windows? For the same resons Bill Gates got in this industry in the 80s. Easy to use interface for every dumbass. Equip institutions with Linux and see how productive people are
.
So, if you had no probs with linux, we should consider you the majority? -
I set a new record with my U6 today
. My 6 cell battery lasted 3h07 mins
. WHOOOHOOO!!!!
The settings I used:
1. Power4Gear Battery Saving
2. Processor state 2 %
3. Brightness on minimum
4. No volume
5. Manual config in Vista to give minimum or no power to mobo components.
6. Indexing off
7. Programs open: Outlook, Word 2007, Chrome and 1 Win Explorer instance
8. Bluetooth off (it takes so much battery when on)
9. Wi-Fi on but on minimum. Browsing NBR was like dial-up.
I wonder what I can do with a 9 cell with these settings.

(187 min x 9) / 6 = 4 h 40 min ! -
HI GUYS!!, serious problem with my U6, CHECK THIS!!
first: my antivirus expired like 2 weeks ago and i haven't update it or installed a new one,
i plugged an usb memory this the afternoon, a friend's one, everything ok, wrote a document and turned off the notebook, now i turned it on and wireless doesn't work, can't see it in the device manager, also the sound card, doesn't appear in device manager, can't hear anything, i think, good fuc/&%" virus, then i restar the notebook and it freezes in the windows xp logo (yes, i have XP SP3, it's been working terrific), and i have to turn it off pressing the power button for 8 seconds, then it starts again and windows can finally start, but if i turn it off or restart again the same will happen, it will freeze again and next time i turn it on windows will start normally, you know what i mean?, one time yes and one time not, it doesn't scares me really, in the end, it's just a god virus, what really scares me is that the asus start logo (that sound when you turn on the notebook) can't be heard anymore, even if i set the volume in 8 ( the louder one ), the speaker doesn't work even before windows starts, i'm going to reinstall windows after i neutralize all viruses, but the speaker doesn't work even when i start the notebook, have someone ever experienced something like this?, anyone know this virus?, any idea?, what if the speakers does'nt work anymore?, or the sund card, could it be because of the virus?, it's hard to believe a virus can do that, what do you think guys? -
Maybe you can try booting into safe mode and do a system restore (say to 2 week ago) and see if that works before formatting your notebook and reinstalling your OS.
-
-
OH Jesus, the asus logo sound is back, just restored the default manufacturer settings from bios, audio in OS is still gone, will have to format, what a good virus
-
Has anyone tried the new BIOS?
L.E: I have 305 now. Guess it wasn't worth updating.
-
-
i did a search hoping to find the answer before I asked this..but I came up with nothing..
I want to reprogram the two buttons that control the webcam and the power options for volume...anyone have an idea on how I can do that?
thanks! -
-
my U6 sometimes gets very hot, and the heatsink just doesn't work, and the notebook sudenly turns off because over heating, it doesn't happen frecuently, but it's bad anyway, what should i do?, update bios?
-
-
thanks emporium, i'll do it tomorrow, good idea
-
Can anyone direct me to a newer audio driver than the one on the Asus website?
-
Direct links:
Realtek ver.2.09 for Vista
Realtek ver.2.09 for XP -
Thank you
.
-
I see there is a new BIOS out for the U6. What changed? Where can I see the release notes? It only says FW update. What does that mean?
L.E.Why is this happening?
HEAT Is not the issue on my U6.Attached Files:

Since the BIOS update my event logs have a peculiar error. Speed limit on processors...I'll rollback on BIOS.

Hey. I keep on having problems with animation in Unreal Tournament 3. It's so slow that it looks like below 10 fps to my eyes.
At first I thought it's some problem connected with the game. I patched it, changed the settings, but unless I turn it like 640x480 with all effects off the animation starts to be fluent.
Then I installed the 3D-Mark05 to test the laptop's performance and it looked awful-the animation was about 5-10 fps and the result was like a bit over 1600.
I tried to install various different graphics drivers (including the ones I found in this topic), but nothing really happens (my actual driver version is 7.15.11.6749).
Did anybody experienced similar problems? -
Mate...this is not a lappy for gaming. The 3D Mark score is about right
.
-
And 1 more thing: My brother successfully plays UT3 on his 2-years old Toshiba laptop. This game is not really THAT demanding. -
In case it is not clear, those results are from PCMark, which is CPU- and memory-dependent I believe, rather than GPU-dependent like 3DMark. And the GPU is where most laptops fall short.
That being said, I don't know what the UT3 requirements are and how well it should run on this laptop.
In any case, don't run the game while unplugged and using the 3-cell battery, the performance suffers a severe drop in that case (see the post you quoted). -
OK. But still my 3D Mark 2006 results were 894, where it should be 1126 (according to some reviews I've googled).
Don't you think it may be connected to the graphic drivers or sth.? -
1. Bad GC drivers.
2. Bad OS
3. Bad RAM
4. High temps, CPU throttling. Check event viewer for this. -
My U6sg seems not to detect a dvd unless its there on boot. This only happens in Vista as in Ubuntu it seems to work fine. Makes me think its a Vista driver issue, but there is not a driver on the Asus website for the dvd player. Any suggestions?
-
There is no specific driver for the ODD from ASUS, since Windows default drivers will work for (nearly?) all ODDs.
I suggest uninstall the ODD from device manager, and then reboot and let Windows re-detect the drive, and install the default driver. -

I really need some input on how to make this thing hybrid sleep when the lid closed. I did my usual thing, pushed the power button to put it too sleep (i saw the power led flashing so it was confirmed that it was in sleep mode), put it in the nice Asus sleeve and then in my bag. I reached my destination and I put my hand to take out the laptop. The sleeve was burning hot and the laptop was so hot that I could barely touch the palmrest. You guessed, it turned on whilst traveling.
I use the power button because no matter what settings I choose in Vista it does not sleep upon lid close. Yes, I updated and uninstalled the ATK 20 times. -
I do not have a direct response to your question, but I have a suggestion.
Use hibernate. When hibernating, the computer is truly powered off, and there is a much lower chance of the computer waking up in a bag. In contrast, some events (and bugs?) can wake it from standby (as you already noticed...) Hibernation takes a bit longer than standby (sleep) but is much safer.
Then, assign the press of the power button (which now puts computer in standby) to Hibernate. If possible, also assign Hibernate to the Lid Close event (but I think you have problems with that, i.e., that assignment doesn't work -- unless I read your message incorrectly). -
Okay. I will config with Hibernate rather than sleep. I don't understand why m lid won't work properly with the sleep/hibernate thing. Can another U6 user post some screens with his config? I want to see if I missed something.
Another question, can you direct me to some good rams? I would like to upgrade my lappy to 4 gigs and I don't know where to start.
Cheers.
L.E: I found these. You reckon they are worth it? -
I'm using XP, but if you're using Vista it should be similar.
Go into your power options property in your control panel. There should be an array of options for you including "enable hibernate" in the Hibernate tab and different options to select in the "When I close the lid of my portable computer:" under the advanced tab.

But considering I paid 100EUR for 1GB of DDR RAM for my M6BNe 2 years ago, I think 69 EUR is not expensive at all for 4GB.
That doesn't mean that 69 is a good price for 4GB nowadays. I don't know that. -
hmmm.. I'm not sure what the market is like in Europe, but $90 USD (~69EUR) is extremely expensive in the US market. The same ones on newegg cost $56USD (~43EUR). You can even can get 4gb (2x2gb) G.Skill ram for $40 USD (~31 EUR). Either way, from experience, any brand of ram should be similar in reliability and all carries a lifetime warranty.
-
Thanks for the lid advice (it still won't work) and for the ram suggestions. Unfortunately, europeans are not as lucky as the americans. In Europe. prices are often identical to the ones in the states from a numerical value. For example, a 3000 $ camera in the states is 3000euros here. Similarly with the RAMS. If I order outside Europe I will pay shipping and VAT and it will bring me up to the price asked here.
I will put the order for those OCZs.
Thanks. -
Being an economical superpower certainly has its advantages

Will ABR install successfully my current Vista Business 32 license on Vista Business 64?
This is more of a confirmation.
Nice one. I just checked the Asus website and 64 bit apps are everywhere for this laptop
.
-
I see some sites like ZZF and others have a 9400M GS 256MB listed as the GPU. Did Asus refresh them with this card?
-
ClearSkies Well no, I'm still here..
It's most likely a typo.
While Asus NA website lists the 9400, the reputable sites run by resellers here indicate a 9300 gpu for the U6V-A1. I'm more inclined to trust the latter, as Asus isn't always known for accurate specs on their website (sadly).
