"Save it some place"? As in on my disk? The easy flash utility can read ntfs partitions?

For instance, the root of the C: drive. You could check my BIOS upgrade guide for more details.

Hi mates, my lcd is messed up, i have to replace it,
i found this one, the seller says it works exactly like the original one, we warranties it, what do you think?, besides, the lcd i'm about to remove still works and i would like to adapt some kind of converter to use with a hdmi conector or vga, anyone knows how to do it?, and does anyone has a guide or manual to replace the LCD? my notebook is the u6sg-a1, and the seller says it's for the u6v but also 101% compatible with u6sg

    in advance thanks

Its official. I am an idiot.

My laptop was like a rocket and I did not know why. I clean it weekly with a brush, the hairdryer and alcohol. I had no change. Today, I ran across a thread with someone having huge temps. The guys in there recommended a proper grill clean-up. I said, why not, took my screwdriver, removed the fan and look what I found...

8 months of crap and dust. I had no idea it was there. I thought I removed it with my usual clean up. After I cleaned this up, my laptop is so bloody quiet !!!! It is like a different laptop! This new 305 BIOS is amazing. The fan barely makes any noise and I am plugged now! I gained up to 10 degrees with the cleanup procedure.

What can I say? People always learn something new :p. I did not want to open the U6 because it works and if it works no need to fix it ;). All you U6 people out there with tons of noise, remove the 2 screws, easy when taking the fan out...use a brush, and go for it ;).

Lol - excellent picture. It's really true what they say: a picture is worth a thousand words. :D

Good thing you got your grill cleaned and that your laptop is nice and quiet again. I'll keep it in mind, if mine should ever start heating up. :)

I have a U6V running the 207 bios without any problems. Any of the later bios versions (209, 212, 213) result in my fan staying at max speed all the time. Is everyone experiencing this? My laptop is almost new and I feel confident it has nothing to do with cleaning the fan... Also what is this 305 bios that keeps getting mentioned? Which U6 is it for?
    thanks

I'm have a U6V w/ BIOS 213 running Gentoo Linux and I have no problems with fan noise.

305 is for U6Sg, so it's not for you.

I tried different BIOS versions and 305 seems to be the best, fan and temp wise.

Yeah, all the compressed air in the world is nothing compared to a good ol' Q-tip cleaning of the radiator grill and fan blades. That's rule #1 of notebook cleaning! :)

Not sure what you mean with the "bars". I assume you mean the radiator. It depends on the notebook. On some it's really easy to remove the fan and then the problem is solved: you have direct access to the radiator.

On others the fan won't come off without removing the heatsink, so you need to work your way in-between the fan blades and that can be quite difficult.

U6V : What is the latest version for Express Gate? (Mine is at 0.8.7.2 version). How to get it?

Thank you. The file is :
    ExpressGate_VT_32_64_081027.zip (so dated 2008/10/27).

I asked this question because in this thread I saw an even more recent version:
    http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=343634
    Version 1.3.13.5 2009/01/15

I installed this 1.3.13.5 version but it installed to C: drive and not to the hidden restoration partition drive, so my Express Gate was not updated! Probably because this version is not for U6V ?

By the way it is a real confusion in naming and version by Asus. Either in DFI image, SSD version, HDD version, setup.exe form..., big differences in version number...

The U6Vc (more recent than U6V) still has only Express Gate version 0.8.7.2 at Asus site !

I would like to update Express Gate to benefit from newer versions of applications, in particular Firefox 3.x instead of Firefox 2.x as currently.

    Hi all,

i've got a U6sg and the other day i tried to read a SD-HC card with my card reader and it did not like it at all! Can these card readers read the SD-HC cards? Or maybe i have the wrong / older driver for it?

Also, i'm looking at getting a expresscard port replicator, anyone got any experience / advice with using a replicator with the U6?

    Thanks!

Are you using Vista or XP?

For the port replicator, are you looking for one that gives you more USB ports?

Warning: once downloaded, the file ExpressGate_VT_32_64_081027.zip contains in fact 0.7.7.0 version, so it is a very old version. I cannot even install it because InstallShield refuses, it says newer version already exists (mine is 0.8.7.2), which surprises me at first since I did not expect getting such older version.

Hey, i'm using XP SP3. Do you need Vista for SD-HC?

I'm looking for a port replicator to plug in an external monitor, surround sound system and some other usb devices. So when i want to take my laptop i don't need to remove so many cables!

These replicators all have multiple audio inputs for 5.1 systems, will this work for my laptop? I'm not sure whether or not to get a usb or expresscard port replicator either.

Goodluck in your hunt. Just make sure you don't use multiple things at once in the port replicator. Due to bandwidth limitation on USB :(.

Wishmaker have you used a usb replicator before? If you have can you share you experiences please. That was my concern, the bandwidth limitation. Also wishmaker, i seem to remember that you had an external sound card, was that for audiophile purposes or out of necessity? Do you know if i would be able to get 5.1 sound out of one of these replicators?

That's why i was looking at these two, they use the expresscard slot instead! Belkin ( http://www.belkin.com/highspeeddock/)
    Targus ( http://www.targus.com/us/product_det...sp?sku=ACP60US)

They look pretty good but they command a premium over the usb hubs.

Yes I have used one and a very expensive Targus one. I bought it via internet, got it after a week and set it up. It had everything, from USB, Ethernet, to Video and 7 channel audio.

I plugged it in my laptop, I installed it, and I was enjoying my new port replicator. I decided afterwards to add, my HP all in one, my USB HDD, play music using the surround and....guess what? :(

    1. My mouse in windows started lagging :(.
    2. Scanning and printing at the same time was not okay :(.
    3. Running games through the replicator video output was so bad it made you cringe.
    4. I could use the replicator but one thing at the time. I was not able to do more things with it like you do with a normal pc/laptop.
    5. I had to send it back. I will never ever use an USB 2.0 port replicator. USB 3.0 yes but not 2.0.

Yes I have an audigy. As you can see in my sig, its the EX54 one and not the USB. Creative mentions on the website that you cannot playback and record at the same time if you have the USB one.

    Hi,

After reading this entire thread (from page 1 to the end literally lol), I now know most of the general problems with this series (hard mouse pad buttons, in some cases bad hard drive, the "emergency" 3 cell battery, etc.). All of which, I find are totally acceptable for me.

As of 2 days ago, I have ordered an Asus U6E. It was kind of hard to track down since it was discontinued, but I managed to find a new one for sale at Sigelectronics.com for $1200 canadian dollars (roughly $1000 USD), which is extremely cheap. Brand new, sealed on box (hopefully there is nothing wrong with it...) It should be arriving in the next day or two. I can't wait!

I know that this is not the right thread to be posting this, but I do not have privileges to start a new thread in the Merchant topic portion of this forums, but does anyone have a 3 cell battery for the U6 series for sale? With all the "later" boxes, Asus no longer includes the 3 cell battery, just the 6 cell battery. I understand all the downside of that battery, but I still would like to own one, just for display reasons.

Couple of days, than I will be an official "U6 Owner". :)

My thought exactly. Lets be honest? What chipset gives maximum bandwidth on USB 2.0 all the time? I still have to see one :). One of the reasons I bought my Audigy on EX54. When USB 3.0 becomes a standard, then surely, port replicators will perform way better than 2.0 ones because of the difference in speed. Even if the chipset won't give USB 3.0 speed all the time.

Michael, could you make it any easier to install XP on my U6S?

You da man; thanks for posting the links. All of the drivers work near perfectly (Some little issues with the Motorola modem driver & possibly Wireless console too, but haven't bother to troubleshoot them yet.)

It was like giving my Laptop an enema...

Alright, so after a week, my asus U6 laptop came in. I ordered a U6E-A1 (white). however, i received a U6S. I know spec wise, the U6S would be better, because it has a dedicated video card (8400M) while the U6E has an integrated (x3100). Also, this "package" i receive did not come with all the accessories (It's missing the carrying sleeve, and the carrying case). I don't know if the company i bought it from forgot to include it?..... Does the carrying case and sleeve come INSIDE the U6 box? or have its own packaging?

After spending a couple of hours playing with this U6S, I really enjoy this laptop. I know I definitely want to stick with the U6 series, but I perfer the white. My question is, should I send it back, and try to get the U6E? And hopefully the U6E they send will have ALL the accessories?I will not be using this laptop for gaming, but i will be watching dvds. Would the lack of a dedicated video card really hurt dvd play backs?

BTW, i paid $1200 Canadian dollars ($1000 USD roughly) for it (brand new), so its a good deal, no matter which I choose, even without all the accessories.

Hi and welcome to the forums.

The Vista BT driver on your drivers disk will work for XP just fine. If you do not have your disk, you can download the driver from the Asus website too.

Once you insert the disk, a message will pop up saying your OS is not compatible, but just cancel the message and go into My Computer and select Explore on your optical drive. From there, you can access all the files in your "Vista-only" drivers disk.

Did you choose the setup file in the WIN32 folder?
I don't remember the driver version I put in that all-in-one package, but the one I used on my U6V was azurewave_BT-253 Version 1.00.000

As you mentioned, it could be SP3 conflicting with the installation file, and if that's the case, you'd probably have to uninstall SP3 first. But before doing so, try install the driver again in safe mode and see if that works.

Today something terrible happened to my laptop.

I was sitting with a friend (a girl), and we were looking up something online. Then she wanted to type and so she lifted the whole laptop by the LID!!! Here I was babying and taking care of my laptop everyday ever so gently and she did that!! :(

but she did comment on how nice the laptop was :)

I wouldn't worry about it at all :)
Although the screens on the U6 series are quite thin, it's also sturdy enough to be handled by the screen.
