Thx for the help. I ended getting tired of the tweaking and went back to the vista, spent days trying to make the stuff work. Appreciated ur help though...
One last question though, which version driver do u guys recommend for 9300M GS on the U6V? tried the latest from Asus, but that one seemed to my lappie up...
And also, anyone managed to remove the lagginess with using bluetooth mouse? tried with another bluetooth mouse (sony vaio), and it still lagged...
-
You could just use the latest mobile GPU driver from nVidia.
-
has anyone solved this problem?, deas it also happens in vista? -

Have a U6V-A1 running on XP. Everything has bene working great so far but after I upgraded my MSN to the newest version "Windows messenger live 2009", the integrated chicony webcam stopped working properly during video calls. It would display an image that is completely messed up in term of colors. The webcam works fine if I just turn it on outside of MSN, so it must be a compatibility issue with the newest MSN. Has anyone else experienced this problem?

Hey all,
having some issues with my U6sg. Sometimes when i try boot up the asus logo comes up and it makes the startup/post? sound but then just stalls. The HDD light doesn't blink at all and after another like 90 seconds it makes the post sound again.
I'll power down the laptop and reboot, sometimes the HDD will finally kick in after two or three restarts but i'm a bit worried that its a sign that it's about to die? When it does boot up it runs fine, no issues.
The drive is the stock 160gb Hitachi drive and im running xp sp3, had the laptop for less than a year. Any advice would be greatly appreciated, thanks! -

I installed it without any problem on my U6V. -
1. Check my Tips and Tricks, under "No POST" and "Has my HDD gone bad?" -
I like everything about this laptop except 2 things:
the screen produces way too much white and thus the color looks washed out even after calibrated with hardware calibrator. And NVIDIA graphic card, I hate NVIDIA since I am more into multimedia and ATI video card produces much richer color than NVIDIA even with HD Purevideo software installed. And there is an updated info on NVIDIA graphic cards: All are defective including the 9 series NVidia card. If Asus equips U6 series laptop with ATI lowend 4 series video card and borderless and better LCD panel, it will put macbook to rest. Sony/macbook LED panels are so much more vibrant, richer, deeper color than U6V. I owned U6S-A1 and U6V-A1 and macbook 13.3 unibody so I know -
Here's the same image I posted in my macbook review comparing the 2 screens:
-
I stopped watching movies on my Asus U6V because of the washed out color. I only used it as a DVD player and HDMI to my HP LP2475W 24" screen. Sux to be a student, the freaking dorm is too tiny for a real TV
-
I hate the glossy screen on the u6v. granted i've only had one other laptop, the z70v, whose screen was matte. i keep seeing my reflection!
-
The "glossiness" on the U6 series actually isn't that bad in comparison to other glossy screened notebooks. Of course, a matte screen is more desirable for most business-type notebooks.
-
I figured it was worth a shot to get it fixed under warranty (only had to ship it ~1hr from my location) but disappointed it wasn't an easy fix.
I have an external Bluetooth adapter (Logitech MX-900), and it works just fine.
I'm also planning to get a Logitech mouse w/ nano receiver. -

Any U6e Owners here know whether it is possible to upgrade the CPU from Intel duo core 2.2ghz to something else ??
Please kindly advise. -
You can upgrade your CPU up to a T9900 (3.06GHz) if you like. -
Has anyone successfully gotten OS X to run on their U6?

Can anyone help me out with this Easy Flash utility? I've read the bios update guide and I understand how to do it, but every time I select my bios file, it says that the BIOS ROM can't be read, or something to that effect. I have unzipped it and the filename is U6SgEpAs.305 and is 1024kb. Any advice?
Edit: Nevermind. I renamed the U6SgEpAs.305 file to AMIBOOT.rom and it worked fine. -
Apart from a few worn out marks on the leather close to the touchpad -left click, my U6 is still fit. Funny enough I just finished Prototype on it in 3 days of hardcore playing. Temps never went higher than 74 on both GPU and CPU. I played around 7h everytime without quitting the game. The noisy fan did its job.
P.S: Low quality don't imagine FULL HD resolution with Super High Settings.
-
The problem is fixed under XP with latest version PCIE_Install_5732_0701.
Now the Realtek Gigabit NIC card no longer appears as removable device. -
Hi there, new user here.
I have been looking at the u6 series for sometime (specifically the Asus U6 bamboo). I need a 12 inch laptop that I can use for programmes like Adobe Flash and Photoshop. Is that going to be possible? Or am I going to have to get a bigger screen size?
Its very important that I'm not lagging all the way through drawing and manipulating vector art.
Cheers,
drayfuss -
The U6 bamboo would be fine for Flash and photoshop since it has a relatively powerful CPU; however, if you're dealing with large images, a 12" screen may limit your productivity unless you plan on using an external screen.

Greetings
What version of BIOS is last for U6E ?
I tried 204 from asuscom, but with it T9300 processor runs only at 1200MHz all the time, and bluetooth have turned off.
305 works fine, but notebook thinks that it is U6Ep, and techsupport has told that it harmfully for a notebook.
OS is WinXP
Sorry for my English -
Hey guys,
I have a U6sg running XP, just wondering if anybody knows of drivers for the dvd drive? I've looked on the asus support site and can't find any. I'm not sure where I got the driver that is currently installed for it, might be a generic one.
The drive has recently been playing up a bit, very noisy and sporadically has trouble reading discs, so i thought i might look for the correct driver.
Thanks -
DVD drives don't need drivers, not even in winslows. You could try updating the SATA controller driver, but I doubt that'll help.
It sounds more like your drive might be dying. -

Hi,
I have a U6v running 64bit Vista Ultimate. I've been running the system without a problem for about a year now.
Just recently I noticed that the fan seemed to be running at 100% non stop and the air coming out felt surprisingly hot. I decided to look into this in more detail and found that the CPU cores & GPU were all idling at about 80C.
The only change to the system I can think of is that I ran windows update 5 days ago which I think is about the same time these issues arose.
The specific updates that were installed are (vague descriptions):
Media Centre Update
Realtek PCIe GBE Family Controller
.NET Framework
Several Security Updates
NVIDIA High Definition Audio
I attempted to remove the NVIDIA update and instead installed the latest drivers from NVIDIA website. Unfortunately this didn't help.
I also attempted to upgrade the BIOS. I tried a few versions but had no luck so reverted to 207 as it had previously been the only version that allowed the CPU fan to not constantly be at max.
I also tried installing a old version of the NVIDA drivers (185.85_notebook_winvista_64bit_whql specifically) which I am still running. Currently my CPU cores are idling at 65 & 67 and GPU at 70 with my computer set to "High Performance" mode. This seems better than earlier but I'm still not convinced I am back to the original state.
Does anyone have any suggestions?
What are some normal idling temperatures? The ones I have stated here are with Firefox & Thunderbird open.
Thanks! -
My CPU cores idle at 29C and 32C and my GPU core sits quite comfortably at 40C, but that's probably just because I don't use windows.

My distro is Gentoo as in my signature.
I'm not sure what you mean about missing features? If you're referring to vira (and the wasted resources for an (anyway inefficient) anti-virus program), adware, spyware, horrible multi-tasking, catastrophic memory management, laughable disk access and non-existant security of windows - then yeah, I'm missing all those "features".
If you're referring to features missing in Gentoo compared to other distros or features disabled in order to keep CPU/GPU temps down - then nope, I'm not missing out on anything to get acceptable temps and performance out of my laptop.
I usually run with the AC adapter, so I'm not too familiar with battery life. Anyway it depends very much on my usage. Gentoo is a source-based distro, so I compile everything myself, which naturally sucks some juice. I'm running very bleeding edge, so I compile a lot, plus I play WoW a bit. Both things uses quite a bit of power, which is why I usually use the AC adapter.
A few times I've forgotten to plug in the adapter and it shut itself down (gracefully) after a couple (2-3) of hours. -
I actually meant missing features like the card reader, camera, fingerprint reader, hotkeys etc....
-
Ahhh those features.
Card reader, webcam, fingerprint reader all work fine and the hotkeys can be configured to do just about anything.
When I originally installed Linux I had to do a few tricks (extract, disassemble, correct a few errors, re-compile and inject BIOS into the kernel) to get the brightness keys working, but I'm not sure that's necesarry anymore. This was necesarry since most laptop makers seem unable to code an error-free BIOS (well actually only the DSDT-part of the BIOS) that complies with the official ACPI standards. Then they tend to work around those errors in their windows drivers. Thus fixes are sometimes necesarry on Linux. There are some recent changes in the Linux kernel that might introduce similar workarounds, but I still use my custom-compiled BIOS, since I know that it works.
One small issue I do have is that the WiFi LED doesn't switch off when I disable WiFi. It is however extremely rare that I switch it off, so I don't mind. I probably could make it work, but so far I haven't bothered. -
Hello,
Does anyone succeed to install Windows 7 on the U6V? Where did you find the drivers? I assume that there will be missing ones like OSD, fingerprint? -
I only went as far as to install the files: ATKDrv_v104321575_Win7_64 and ATKHotkey_Win7_32_Win7_64_100052. They were referenced on the ASUS support forums for another model, but they seem to be standard. I only cared about the Fn-keys working.
http://support.asus.com/download/download_item_dna.aspx?product=3&model=ATKDrv&SLanguage=en-us&os=30
http://support.asus.com/download/do...duct=3&model=ATK_Hotkey&SLanguage=en-us&os=30
For the most part, things seem to be running fine. First on my list is to find drivers for the touchpad, the one-finger scrolling is not working.
The webcam comes up as a device USB2.0 0.3M UVC Webcam, and the Fingerprint Sensor shows up in the device manager but has an ! beside it. I don't use either, so I haven't bother figuring them out yet, but I am sure it won't be that hard.
Bluetooth also worked enough to sync up the mouse, but unfortunately, Win7 didn't fix my main gripe with this machine -- the bluetooth mouse is still jumpy.
I was disappointed to see the U6V not on the list of supported laptops on the ASUS site, and that they don't have drivers available for Win7 -
Ah, figured out how to get to the drivers...
Under the Notebook download page, you can select APPS or DRIVERS under the Series, and then the type of driver/app you need under Model number.
Then it gives all the options, e.g. Synaptics vs. Elantech touchpad -- so just have to pick the right one...
Cool, thanks Asus! -
Hey mathomas,
what drivers did you use for the wireless / LAN / bluetooth / card reader / audio? I checked on the asus site and cant find any drivers for windows 7 (for the U6sg atleast)
I'm assuming i'll be able to find graphics card drivers online. I'm running XP at the moment on my U6sg and i've got drivers for it when i originally downgraded named "ATKDrv" "ATKOSD2" "InfUpdate." I can't remember what these drivers are for and im wondering if i'd need updated versions for windows 7?
Thanks -
@mathomas

I have just installed Windows 7 64bit on my U6V.
Pretty much everything seems to be working. I used the Vista 64bit webcam and flash card reader drivers and everything else I obtained from the links mentioned in previous posts.
I did not install Lifeframe or Splendid as I never used them in the first place but all the other function keys seem to be working. The on screen display is different from what I used to have (it is now the more traditional one that I my M6Ne used).
The only problem I have come across so far is that although Power4Gear works, and the button switches between modes there is no on screen display to inform me of what mode I am in. The only way I can tell is by manually opening the Power4Gear app. Anyone else come across this problem or found a solution?
Thanks -
-
Ahh yes, that seems to have done the trick - thanks!
-
So everything is running nicely for me in Windows 7 x64 now....
I thought I would once again give the BIOS updates a go...
Unfortunately I still have the same problem where all versions except 207 (which is no longer available on the ASUS website) result in the CPU fan constantly being at max speed.
I have tried BIOS 209, 212 and 213 all with the same result. Does anyone run one of these three BIOS versions and not have the fan speed problem?
Is there any way around this problem!?
Thanks -
I still have the U6V207AS.zip. If you are interested, I can upload it.
