I had a m1330 ordered as well, actually I haven't canceled it yet, but I will in the next day or so. Dell really dropped the ball on availability with the m1330, if I had it in my hands right now, I probably would have never bought the V2S.

 

i just ordered a v2s from milestonepc in canada...really hoping it isnt delayed!

Sorry guys, but the delays and concerns about the 8600GS's GDDR3 have "forced my hand" here. I'm canceling my V2S order and picking up a MBP. Whoever was interested in doing a review should contact Andrew, now that I've pulled out.

 

What is an 'MBP'?

Why are you guys all using battery life as a factor in your decision? Even though we don't know the F8's battery life, the VS2 is similar in build to the V2je, which has a pretty bad battery life (2 hours with 6 cell and 3.5 hours on the 9 cell, not to mention that the 9 cell isnt included with the VS2). I would love for the VS2 to have improved it's power settings to reach 3 hours on the 6 cell, but that's wishful thinking.

I preordered the VS2 because I heard the build quality is probably better, and because it looks better in my opinion. ^^;; Other than that, techincally the F8 is a better deal because it has a better vid card and its $200 cheaper. I just hope the build quality is worth the extra $200.

 

Does anyone know when this laptop will come out?

See earlier - the concerns are about the actual clocks of 8600 gs video memory. As has already happened with F3sv

 

yeah you are right that would not make it worth it at all if it doesn't have DDR3.

I mean, it's already a bit of a stretch to get this laptop over others that have a much less price tag, and to be shafted like that...

 

Heh yeah that just makes me feel all the worse about this.

 

ARGH, all these drop-outs are giving me second thoughts... and it comes out this thurs. for me. I'm pretty sure i'm gonna stay loyal though and stick it to the end.

 

I had second thoughts for a bit, but then I realized that gaming on my laptop wasn't a priority. I just need to be able to run WoW, Civ4, and maybe Supreme Commander at decent framerates.

I think in this community the value of this laptop is really hurt if the 8600GS is not as powerful as everyone hoped. This was supposed to be the W3J replacement in many peoples minds, but I don't think it can do that with a gimped video card.

No one knows for sure yet if the 8600GS is gimped like the F3sv, so I guess we will all have to wait and see.

 

good point. well it will be a very good upgrade for me as I have tried playing games with Intel's Intregrated GPU with 512 RAM. I've played Rome total war on it (fine but low settings). But it failed miserably on medieval 2 total war. If you've played the game you know theres a strategic map view and the real time battle. My intel barely managed the map view and in the battle's it stuttered every second making it unplayable (the loading times were also extremely long). So, for me it will be a big upgrade for me and I think that I won't have much regrets as I don't play the most recent games but games from 1 or 2 years ago

 

That is true. Since this is admittedly a higher-end laptop than the F3SV, it's possible that they used the more expensive GDDR3 version in it.

 

I think I will probably stick with the v2s even if it doesn't have gddr3 memory, although I hope it does. I just cant find another 14" I like out there....

Im also hoping that it has lightscribe on the dvdr...I dont know why it wouldnt, seeing as the w7s which is 13" has it.

No, not yet but it says on their website ETA August 23rd for Canada. For the US, it actually said today, so you should call them and check that out. I'm gonna call as soon as I get a chance whihc should be in the next hour or so.

 

i called milestone, he said they'll be delivered there (canadian store) on the 23rd

 

well I just got off the phone with asus canada and the rep thinks it has DDR3 same as the G1-S

 

i thought the 8600gs only used gddr3 (with the exception of the F3Sv, who knows what ASUS did to that one).

 

cuz there's some dispute on this website as to whether it has ddr2 or 3

 

I second this as I called too. The store is not 100% sure as that is what hte shipping company tells them. They have no control over the shipping company so I'm not so trusting of that arrival date.

They're all stellar in terms of support and CS. I would suggest GentechPC, as they're offering a $50 discount, free shipping, and a free external 160GB HD. If you live in Canada, or if the GentechPC offer is over, go with MilestonePC. They have the same offer as GentechPC, but without the free shipping.

Does anyone here have any information about the V2S-B1 model, and how it might differ from the A1?

 

supposedly, milestone should've gotten their shipment on teh 20th so it might already be in stock. I advise for you to call them and check.

 

I haven't heard of a B1 model, but going by the other Asus B1's I would say it'll have a larger/faster hard drive and a faster processor. It may even include the 6 and 9 cell batteries.

 

maybe not though, if you compare the F3SV-A1 and the B1, the only difference is the screen resolution

 

I just pre-ordered my V2S-A1 from Gentech PC today.

Ken from Gentech PC said that they are expecting to recieve their shipment of V2S's sometime later this week or early next week.

Does anyone know how the V2s will handle supreme commander or maybe even Crysis?

 

dunno about crysis, but supreme commander should be playable.

 

I think Crysis will be fine. I here is will be a pretty scalable game.

hey, i have a v2s pre-ordered from milestonpc canada. i'm just wondering if anyone has made a call to milestonepc (canada or us) or any other reseller in north america to see if the v2s shipment was delayed or can we expect to receive it relatively close to the ETA dates.

 

mentioned in another thread, I called them on Monday and they said the 23rd. I asked them how sure they were and they couldn't give me an answer as it was their shipping company that controlled the delivery and had no power to dictate shipping dates. You could try calling today as it is the day before it arrives so they might have more info. I'll be calling tomorrow to see if I can pick it up. (my instincts though, are telling me there's will be a delay)

haha, these delays just keep on coming. My guess is end of next week. I called too, but it seems you beat me to posting it first. I'm on vacation next week so I won't be able to pick it up till early sept. Stupid delays, I wanted to bring it with me to vacation.

 

i'm not sure i'll still get one if it's delayed much longer, we'll see though

 

same, i need it by the time i move into uni, so milestonpc better get their shipment in next week or =/.

 

If it is delayed past next Wednesday, I might just cancel it and go with the lower end MBP.
