just ordered me one of these from gentech pc a few minutes ago
hope it ships ASAP!!!!!!

 

well if its at customs it should be ready in a couple days.

 

yah i'm hoping it'll be there early next week, but if its not there by friday, i'm gonna havta resort to picking up a different ASUS or a MBP.

 

Probably to be expected with any new product roll out, but it is irritating. Not MPC's fault though, just have to sit there and deal with it. I haven't even seen any other Canadian reseller offer them yet.

 

No, absolutely not MilestonePC's fault. They've been pretty good with replying to any questions or concerns. Really is irritating though, especially when there are other options which are far more readily available right now. I can easily drive down to the Apple Store and have a MBP in my hands within the hour.

 

Called GenTechPC, I'm hearing an ETA of 1st week of September for V2S arrivals...I seriously hope that I heard wrong or the lady on the phone misheard what I asked.

 

Geared2Play is getting the V1S, but the ETA on the V2S is apparently mid-October now. Just letting anyone holding out for that deal know.

 

Seriously? I ordered from GenTech, but if it takes that long, I'm canceling my order since I need a notebook for school. I'll give it to the end of next week before I jump to conclusions.

 

Ship dates for GenTech are most likely a different story from BToTech because of the particular situation BToTech is in...

 

milestone might be the way to go, supposedly there gonna arrive next week and is sitting at Canadian customs right now but I don't know the validity of that.

 

Man, this makes me wonder if I should stick with my m1330 order, it's expected to ship on 8/28, but I have a lot of concerns about the build quality. Early reports have not been good.

 

the delay's are upwards of a month for the dell right now so 8/28 might turn into 9/28.

 

If the V2s was delayed until October, then Asus is treading on some VERY thin ice when it comes to my purchase.

 

it shouldn't. WORST case scenario, mid-late september. They're already pushing it though because they said they released late July and its now end of August. You;re right though, they are pushing the envelope and I might have to start looking for other alternatives. Maybe start a thread on what to buy, something like the V2S and for the same price or maybe cheaper.

 

well, that's what the milestone guy told me when i asked him on the phone. he says it's at customs, i don't see how it could take a week, much less a month, to get through customs/arrive in toronto

milestone seems to be pretty well regarded on here (as far as i've seen) so i dont have any reason to think he's not being straight with me

 

agreed, let's hope your're right. Bad thing for me now is that I can only pick it up on labour day weekend since i'm on vacation next week. Hope they can open just for me for a pickup or maybe they're hard workers and may open on a day or two during the weekend

 

arg i was hoping to get this before i left for college too. i dont think my college starts accepting packages till the 8th though >.<
and i really hope it doesnt take that long to ship my V2S...

the Canadians might luck out then as its at customs right now and expecting it next week.

 

I'm wondering if MilestonePC has sold out of it's first shipment, it seems like they are the first retailer to get them here. If they haven't sold through their first shipment it might be tempting to order one from them if they can ship it out quickly.

 

I called milestone and they said that they ordered 100 of them. However, with the delay now, they don't care how many and just want to see how many they can get to their store so if you haven't pre-ordered chances might be slim but there's no harm in trying.

 

what exactly is causing the delay? if i choose a different color will my laptop arrive sooner? j/k

 

supposedly a typhoon that hit China a few weeks ago and yea, the hot pink color will cause a 2-3 week delay.

 

hey guys, been a lot of posts around here about the V1S's battery wear. Does anyone know if it will affect the V2S? Maybe? I'm really concerned as I have stuck by this laptop so far with the delay's, (possible GDDR2) and the loss of the 9-cell. But if there is gonna be battery wear, that's the last straw and I might have to pull out and cancel my pre-order.

 

i would like to know the same

 

Yeah I hope the V2s doesn't have battery wear problems. This just sucks.

At this point, I might just wait for the F8s. It might not be as sturdy as the V2s, but it is ~$300 cheaper. I can dig it.

 

all companies are having delays...so waiting might be the only option now =/

it got "lost" but i reordered and they assured me my place in line was not lost. i have a ESD of Sept 12, but many people have been getting their laptops shipped 12 days early.

 

Bah! I really like the V2S, but like icehockey, im kind of tired of the delays.. i'll stick it out a bit longer, but beyond that..luckily im commuting this year to school, but i just like the form factor and the sleekness of the v2s comparatively.

Hopefully the thinkpad ships early!

 

So, last week the milestone guy said the v2s's would be in early this week and I hadn't planned to call until tomorrow to find out the status.

If any of you guys call first, could you reply here with the results? That will save all of us some time and spare the milestone guy (who is going through a personal situation) some stress.

 

Well lets see...maybe by the time the V2s ship...maybe the F8 will also be ready...lol. But yeah...this is gonna be harsh I am currently using my job's work to type this since my HP of 3 years finally gave out and no longer works. RIP.

But yeah if someone can tell me when the Thinkpad T61p go back on sale on the lenovo site that would help.

 

well...you can get the thinkpad t61 configured to t61p specs off the education website that's what i did
officially, it should be back up mid-september.

 

How does the V2S compare with the T61p? My impression is that the 14" T61p's video card is inferior to the 8600m GS. The T61p also does not come with a webcam. I would think the build quality is comparable for the 2 notebooks. The T61p also seems to be slightly more expensive, especially if you want to get a dock. Any other thoughts?

 

the build quality of the t61p is supposedly vastly superior to the asus. i haven't had the chance to see the v2s, so i can't say.

 

I will probably give them a call in the morning around when they open. If I had a solid ETA on this thing it would definitely make the decision easier.

I feel like its in my best interest to stick with Windows right now based on my schooling needs, but I've got to say I have a fervent curiosity about OS X.

I've got the MBP sitting right next to me, unopened. I don't have a V2s sitting next to me right now. Another strike against the V2s considering I need a notebook as soon as possible.

 

I'm in the same position, Night. I need this thing for school, starting Tuesday. Unfortunately there isn't a lot else that I could get on short notice. The sony sz is too expensive, the dell 1330 has too long a wait. I really don't want to get a macbook. I'll be in a tight spot if the v2s is delayed much longer.

Please let us know what he says when you call today.

 

Called them earlier today, the guy who picked up the phone told me either late this week or early next week.

 

Does customs really take this long or was he not telling the truth last week? Anyone have any idea?

 

Customs is really that unpredictable, especially for something like this, I dont think any reseller in Canada has it yet, but its tough to wait it out I know. I've had experiences with similar items (not in this volume) shipping across and it does get held up. But I dont think it actually arrived at customs probably later than we originally thought.

 

Hi, I'm new in this forum...

I'm thinking in buying the Asus V2S, but the version that is available in my country, Portugal (V2S - 4S023E), is a bit better... It has a Nvidia 8600GT with 512Mb (eh, eh!!!). I don't no if it is GDDR2 or GDDR3. It also has a Intel Core 2 Duo 7500 (2.20GHz) processor.

Basically it has the same specifications of the V1S available in Portugal (V1S - AS004E), but has a smaller 14,1'' display.

Does someone no another country, maibe also in Europe that has the same version of V2S (V2S - 4S023E) ??? I'm searching for a review of it...

 

It would be GDDR2 if its 512 MB, same as the V1s.

Are you sure that is correct though? As in, are there actual physical V2s' in Portugal that you can go see? I am pretty sure I read somewhere that it was listed mistakenly with V1s specs.

If you could give us the dimensions of the notebook on the page where it is for sale, we could probably tell you if its a V2s or if it is a V1s.

Anyway, no reviews on this notebook yet. Everyone waiting for their pre-order to come in is basically a guinea pig.

 

Francisco, it sounds more like the Asus F8Sv. That lappy will be like the V2S with an 8600GT, but there isn't much info about it yet. I have only seen it for pre-order...

 

I called Gentech PC from whom I pre-ordered the V2s. They said that the ETA is now mid-September.

I am this close to cancelling my order and getting a MBP.

He didn't go into specifics. He just said it has been delayed further. I am really considering cancelling my pre-order.

My decision was between the V2s and the MBP. I am sure I will be happy with the MBP.

 

Well thats just excellent. I really hope the guy I talked to yesterday was being honest with his expected dates and not just trying to keep me hooked on the order. He was pretty short with me and did hang up while I was mid-sentence which really turned me off.

Just when I thought the V2s would be my choice something else gets thrown right in there again which makes me reconsider.
