I had an ASUS G Series G1S-A1 but returned it because of the stuttering issue. Does this one have the same problem?
-
really? I have used the A1 many a times but havent had that issue hmmm...when does it stutter? I havent heard of such issue with the B1 myself.
-
Supposidley when It gets hot or something like that, a number of us in here have that stuttering problem with the 8600 GT
-
Interesting...maybe you should try a cooling pad?
-
yea dude i've done everything in my power, just nothing worked so i RMAed it. Do you know the diffrence between the 2? Since one is a A and other is a B?
-
hmm thats pretty unfortunate...The B1 has T7700 3 GB ram and 7200rpm hdd I think.
-
ah ok. see id hate to go with that one and wind up having that stuttering issue. Though i do like the asus and really havnt seen anything better yet
-
I see what you mean, I quite like the G1S myself too
It could well be because the heat sink wasnt seated properly either on the CPU or the GPU...
-
yea i just really need to know if this is going to have that stuttering issue, i know you say you dont but i wonder if oterhs do
-
Stuttering = when the sound is crappy?
If it is like that, I have the sam problem. -
nah not sound, its video mostly. where if i were to be playin wow my charactre moves fast then moves slow and repeats the pattern
-
Okey!
I have a similar problem when listening to music and watching movies. The sound is crappy and the picture stutters. -
take a look at that and tell me if it is what your machine does please
-
I watched it...(not on G1S) and at the 1st 30 secs it stuttered every now and then...so it might just be the video...
-
Sort of. Difficult to here the sound in the movie though.
But on my machine the fps is very much lower and the game and sound stutters a lot. Makes it impossible to play.
Have the sam problem when watching movie sometimes to. The picture and sound stutters like hell!
Will call Asus Sweden this week to see what to do.
Any ideas of what I can demand? -
sorry fellas that was the wrong movie
this is the right one
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nMfSrLNXtQo -
Yes, almost like that. The sound also stutters tactfully((?) couldn't find a better word)
-
dam that sucks, and what lappy do you have?
-
Asus G2S, European version with tv-reciever and 1440x900 screen.
Really hope that asus can fix this for me. The strange thing is that it is not always this problems. The computer can work perfect for a week then become really ****ed upp for a day or two. -
yea looks like ill be lookin at a lappy that has the ATI Mobility Radeon HD 2600
-
Don't think it has to do with the graphics card because the sound can stutter in winamp/mediaplayer when listening to music to.
-
hmm then maybe were talking about to seperate issues. Becuase that stuttering problem seems to go away when users in 163.67 driver from laptopvideo2go
-
Okej. Think so to.
I have tried both Asus original drivers and a couple from laptopvideo2go with no success. -
It is impossible to produce every laptop perfectly. There will always be some which dont work. These are isolated cases right? I mean, this only happens to a few.
-
I have no clue, i would like to know what cause im really interested in gettin one but now im lookin at ATI asus ones because of the factor
-
flraer if your music is stuttering your problem might be related to ASUS Data Security manager? It's known to cause music stuttering due to spurious HDD accesses. ( Sorry if I already suggested that on earlier pages )
-
Hey E.B.E you said that this stuttering issue happens on the ASUS G Series G1S-B1 to?
-
I don't know that...
-
Did You find drivers 163.67 for XP or Vista?? -
the drivers are at www.laptopvideo2go.com
I downloaded them for Vista but they never installed -
I know this website.. but unfortunately links with drivers 163.67 for Vista and XP are dead.
I was thinking that You just find this driver version somewhere in internet.
I'm curious what aplication You used in this link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nMfSrLNXtQo ?? If You let me know I check my G1s-B1 with stutering problem.
Sory for my language. -
Nice idea though =) -
I wasnt the one who made the video, so I dont know what program. My guess is one of the 3dmarks. Also I couldnt find any version out there on the web.
-
OK.. I check this on my G1S-B1. I have the same problems with Stuttering :/
Aplication from: http://www.ozone3d.net/products.php#gpu_benchmarking GPU Caps Viewer v1.4.2, test OpenGL GPU Burner: Fur Rendering, Window size: 600x600, MSAA: none.
Use: Vista Ultimate x32, nVidia driver 167.49, 3GB RAM -
well it looks like im going to stay away from Asus now, i see Compal updated there Bios and users report of not having a problem with it anymore
-
Hi guys, I read this forum for a while now but I've just registered an account a few days before. This forum helped me a lot to solve many problems on my G1S AK005C (the European version of the G1S A1), but this annoying "stuttering" is still here in almost all the games I have tested ... I tried 163.67 driver, it solved the problem (but my graphic card runs hot with it compared to the others drivers, 72, 75° in idle) but it's definitely not a solve, because new drivers are coming almost every week and I would really like them to work properly on my laptop without the "frame skipping issue". Do you have news informations about how to fix it ? Thanks you for helping me. (Sorry for my english)
-
Hi guys, I have the same problems with Stuttering - in game or in movie viewing. Every cca 5 sec jerk picture and sound.
Reinstall drivers for audio and graphic card is not solving...
I use Everest Ultimate edition v4.50 to diagnostic and tracing temperature of hardware.
If i terminate this software, problems with Stuttering is SOLVED!!!
There's not similar troubled software on yours G1?
P.S. Sorry for my bad English language. -
hi, my sound isn't stuttering anymore since I've removed Asus data manager, but I have the known problem of stuttering on 8600M gt, others marks have resolved the problem with a new bios like Toshiba, Compal, but there is nothing from Asus. I like my laptop, this is a good computer, but that problem is really annoying. If I want to play a game without "frames skipping" I have to play with the 163.67 driver, an old one...
, all others drivers give me "stuttering". Maybe you don't have the same problem as me, because when I watch movies everything are fine, this appears only in games or 3d applications like GPU Caps Viewer. I have already tried to start my games without Everest launched, but it is the same. I have stuttering when the GPU reach something like 96°. Thanks you for helping me.
kabal and Rahzer, do you still have the stuttering issue on your G1S while gaming? (PS : sorry for my english, it's not my native language
)

Read the whole thing. It is indeed the graphics card with the GeForce 8 and 9 series. It's in both the cards because of a shader problem i believe. nVidia has not released a patch for XP for the problem but with Vista, it is solved. So if you have a Laptop with GeForce 8 or 9 series, your better off with Vista for now since more drivers are being developed for it for now. -
-
No idea. More people are having a bit more success with Vista right now than XP. I don't have any stuttering on Vista but i had stuttering on XP, thats the reason why i switched to Vista because after I did, no more stuttering. If the problem happens in Vista, Im guessing just to do Full Windows Update and download the latest drivers to see if it goes away but the problem happens in XP primarily.
-
I am under Vista X86 since I bought my computer, and the stuttering problem has always been here, in almost all the games (COD 4, UT3, Gears of War...)
. I tried all drivers from Nvidia( including the 174.31) excepting the new 174.70 beta version. The only one which seems to resolve the problem is the 163.67. As I see, I'll have to wait for news drivers to be released
, or I'll have to send it back from Asus (I don't know if they'll be able to do something for it...). I would like to know the opinion of G1S users who have the same problem as me under Vista, how much time we'll have to wait for a solution? I've already reinstalled Vista and it didn't change anything. (I have all Vista updates installed
)
-
I have a G1S-B1 and had the stuttering. I installed Vista with all updates and 174.xx drivers and UT2004 doesnt stutter but NFS MW still stutters a bit. GoW, CoD4 and other newer games dont stutter for me at all. Even in XP i didnt have stuttering problems on GoW or UT3 but i did on Ut2004 and NFS MW Still. If installing older drivers help the stuttering then most ppl should do that while waiting for the new drivers.
-
Hey GUYS, -- first of all; sry for my bad english- i'm from Germany
I have the Problem solved! DEFINITIVELY!! I can use every GeForce Driver i want to. I repeat EVERY DRIVER WITH NO STUTTER!!
Now you may asking "How did he do that?!"
Yes, i have find out, that the stuttering that begins by playing on random time is temperature depended!
The GPU begins to throttle (slow down) the calculating performance, when the GPU- Die reaches a manufacturer (in this Case NVidia) specific Temperature!
Now you think: "Humm? And why i dont have "throtteling! when i use the (well working) 163.xx and so on drivers?!"
Thats why, because new drivers like 174.xx and so on, are using the GPU more efficiently as the older ones - so the GPU gets more hot; produces more heat, and breaches the "Im cool enough to not throttle the GPU- Die" mode.
And the solution now?
Its a Hardware based solution. The ASUS manufacture was very lazy, i think. The Heat of the GPU cannot be transported really good from the GPU- Die, over the Heatpipe to the Fan.
I have completely disassembled my precious G1s (I have thinked many times, before doing that). After a "millions" of screws, so i can reach the Mainboard, to get ist out of the G1s case. I dismountet the cooler from the GPU an i saw that the Die has a very... very bad contact to the copper from the cooler. There was a ugly fat Heat- Pad on it and a very Useless Alu-Metal Plate (pic-0057.jpg) (properly for extra isolation?!?!) See on photos. I have cleaned the cooler and the GPU Die. The i applied a SilverCrest CoolingPaste! Then i Screwed all together.
After booting, ive startet Everest and installed my favorite Driver 174.74 an ran 3dmark06. Before that Dissasemble- Action my GPU
Throttels at Deep Freeze and the Core becomes 109C........
NOW.. it dont throttels AND the GPU isnt getting higher than 85C
And now the 3DMarks: 4739!!! I Cant believe IT!!
I havent overclocked my G1s and no other modification. I Use the Stock- Performance
Here my Sys Specs:
Ram: 2gig
CPU: T7500, 2.2Ghz
GPU: 8600M GT
HD: 160GIG
OS: Vista 32
If Asus ever will release a BIOS for the G1s to solve that Prob. then it only contains a new Graphic-Bios with a higher Throttle-
barrier. --> so the GPU can cook out a fresh meal...
It is a damn manufacturing failure.. thats all! Shame on you ASUS!!Attached Files:

Can you do a step by step guide on how to access the GPU?
I don't want to risk opening it and not being able to access it.Last edited by a moderator: May 8, 2015 -
Yes, i will try!
But, i dont have taken Photos from the G1s, where have opened it... I had the Idea to write my Results with the Disassembly, after i have complete this "repair".
But, i will try to do my best to write a god how-to. I hope i get my Digicam from my girlfrient very soon.
To take Photos within this How-To with a Handy Camera and shoot blurry pictures... bäähh.. not so good. Better Sharp Pictures -
Theres only 1 problem with this solution....
This happens on ALL 8000 and 9000 Series cards with games like ut2004, Serious Sam 2 and other Unreal 2 Engine Games. Sure this may cure for the G1S but like all others, i don't want to take my Lappy apart because you can break something, even if your careful. If you're like others and don't want to take your G1S apart, wait for a driver update. Many concluded its a Driver issue and how it deals with the Dynamic lighting in many Unreal Engine 2 Games. Read the thread again from about page 45 on. Explain it all.
http://forums.nvidia.com/index.php?showtopic=23904&st=700
If this "Solution" helps then cool, but if it doesn't, wait for a Driver update (if it ever comes out) -
If you read this thread:
http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=207592
You will find people at first came to similar conclusion. IMO these are different problems. Almost everyone has found that the stuttering kicks in at about ~95C. Before that gameplay is stutter free. With the sleep fix it raises this limit to about ~110C, which is actually the BIOS preset throttling limit for the G1S.
Toshiba, Compal, and Apple have fixed their 8600M GT stuttering issues with a BIOS update. I seriously doubt this is a driver issue, even Zepto reps seem to think it is a incompatibility with the 8600M GT and the Santa Rosa chipset.
The fact is I can play stutter free on my G1S with any driver revision using the sleep fix. However considering that almost everyone has found that the stutter kicks in at about 95C, then its quite straightforward logic that states if you prevent your GPU from hitting this temp then you shouldn't have any stutter.
Keep in mind that there are many different reasons why you could get stuttering in games, however for this particular issue with the 8600M GT, I believe it is not a driver issue. If it were a driver issue why would temp make a difference? -
@Negz.
I agree with you!
I Know, that my solution is not the top way at all.
I only think, to push the GPU to that really very high level, as you say with the standby- trick, to 110C sounds hard.
I know too it was a risky operation to disassemble my Lappy, and i dont recommend it to all. Only to somebody who exactly knows, what he are doing.
When a fixed BIOS comes out from ASUS, it is only a "workarround" to keep the the customers satisfied.
The high temp stays!. . . damn situation!
-
Nice solution. Another disclaimer, though, removing heatsink breaks the warranty seal thereby voiding the warranty.
