I need to get one of these.
Everything about it is perfect from my perspective.

Also isnt 1600 x 1200 4:3? -
Red_Dragon Notebook Nobel Laureate
lol it DOES but i only use it at 1600 x 1200 it looks real crisp and fell RIGHT where i want it.
-
How does that work out on a 16:10 Screen?
Anyway i hope Newegg Gets This + 1440 x 900 (Or Better 1680 x 1050)
That would make my christmas. -
I may purchase one and manually upgrade it to WUXGA, if they only have WSXGA+ max.
-
And how are you going to do that huh?
Alot of misguided comments so far. The 9800m GS (score from a guy who purchased the G50VT) gets 8200 at 1300*700. If that was the normal res 3dmark06 uses (1200*1000) that would become 7200~. That is lower than the 9700m GTS and only a bit higher than the 9700m GT.
Also, the 9800m GS. 9700m GT and GTS would obliterate every game (cept crysis) at 1366*700. Not med-high, ULTRA HIGH with AA. The default res -
I sure hope that the G70sg at least has a 9800m GT, or a GTX now because of the changes in the G50s (probably won't happen because it *already* should have a GTS

OK NOW IM REALLY GOING TO GO EAT, GPUZ CONFIRM 9800gt NOT 9800gs, I WILL POST PICTURE SOON. AND A NEW LINK. PS: THIS LAPTOP IS QUIET.. I MEAN QUIET TO THE POINT WHERE U CAN LEAVE IT ON BESIDE YOU AND GO SLEEP.. (ops sorry for caps, too excited, )
-
its called a 9800GT in GPU-Z cause maybe its a new card not announced by nVidia yet. Maybe it recognises it as a 9800 GT. Dont get all excited it if does say it is a 9800 GT, its definately not up to 9800 GT performance for sure. Asus had to downclock it like crazy so it didnt burn the new G50VT.

Hello guys,
I am new to the forum.
In any case, this laptop looks fantastic given the very reasonable price and I am thinking about buying it, since I would like a good gaming laptop, but on a budget. The only downer is the screen resolution, which does seem a bit too low. I would certainly be willing to pay a bit extra to up the resolution a little.
Some of you have mentioned that other versions of this notebook might appear with better resolutions, but I fear they will also improve the processor and other things and thus drive up the price. Hmm, what to do, what to do... -
Prices are not known yet to the public. But yes, the non-Best Buy version will come with a better CPU, dual hard drives, higher resolution and complimentary carrying case + gaming mouse. I suspect it would be similar to the G50V-A1 when it first launched (about $1600-$1700) for the non bluray model.
-
-
The screen will almost certainly be 1680x1050, which IMO is perfect for a 15". I agree with the terrible 1366x768 res on the Best Buy models. You're surely want to play on an external monitor if you want a better gaming experience. We'll see the reseller versions of the G50Vt soon enough with the exact prices. Hopefully there won't be any delays from Asus as they tend to release them a few days to weeks after the official release date.
-
Maybe it'll be 1600x900, since it seems to be 16:9...
-
Either of those two resolutions would definitely be perfectly fine by me.
I you are right - we probably won't have to wait much longer to see the reseller versions. I wonder why BestBuy got the laptop first anyway - I would have thought that it is also technically a reseller of Asus's proucts. -
-
saw it at BB , looks better then the gateway. but the screen size and rez. is low as i'm used to the 17 inch 1080P size. some of u are also casting doubts on the 9800gs it seems.

Here it is guys, my first ever review,

Please pardon me as this is my first ever review of any kind. -
... How, long, have you guys known about this?
I like it
Any chance other sellers would be able to get rid of the lid? Or that it would just come with a black/silver finish, I hate when these companies do this.

Thanks for the review howard911!
ARom, I agree that I also prefer a plain-colored design on a laptop, but ultimately performance has a priority over looks for me. -
-
Well, yes, I can see your point - a laptop has to be both for gaming and for work and flashy designs are inappropriate to bring to some settings.
I am definitely planning on buying a new notebook soon and this laptop is a candidate, but I must chose carefully, because once I buy it, I will have to keep it for another three years or so. On top of that, I don't have a desktop, so the computer must be pretty universal. -
Already posted on the other vt thread, but just in case ... Gentech will have the G50VT-a2 in Nov.
"Hi David,
Yes we will, the G50Vt-A2 will be available on November.

Hello,
I was wondering when you will have the Asus G50Vt-a2 in stock. I saw that Bestbuy already has the scaled down G50Vt-X1 version for sale, but I wanted one more along the lines of the G50v-A2.

. . . I was going to order the Asus G50V-X1 from newegg. Think this will be better than the one from newegg??
-
The warranty is a no no . . . When do you think newegg will get this? Just like Asus G50V-X1.
-
Buy a G50Vm lid off ASUS eStore and swap it? There's a good chance it's swappable, since it's basically the same notebook.
Besides, when the "real" G50Vt's come around (the A1, A2 etc.) they may have a different color scheme. -
I want to buy this . . . . but the warranty is not good. Thats why I'm waiting to buy from newegg when they are available, or they may not be. But I'm pretty sure that the newegg version will have a better display.
-
hotpursuit...
just remember that if you buy from newegg you will not get the same support that you will with an asus reseller. I to was looking to buy my notebook from newegg but newegg is always higher on the price. -
just wish this laptop didnt have this flashy design n theback... i have been debating for a couple of weeks on whether to get the g50v-a1 due to its orange color... really like the dual hard drive option, but then i saw this laptop so i was like yes good things come to those who wait, so it was perfect until i saw the back of the lid... then i was like oh no they didnt.
cause like arom.. i cant walk around camppus with a lid like that... so besides the "GPU improvement".. how does it differ than its predecessor the g50v... -
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834220379
its higher price because its better than the best buy version. -
NewEgg one more expensive and with only a 9700M GT!?!? BB much better deal all the way around.

If the lid is the only thing making you not like this new model, I think a lid skin would easily solve that and both be easier and cheaper than trying to swap it for another lid.
Plus then you can design your own stuff.
I would have held out for the G50VT-A1 if I had known it was going to exists, I like the looks & specs better. -

Here's a few websites that provide skins

Agreed... I've been considering buying a G50V-xxxx model, but the looks are absolutely awful. The hardware is great, but I much prefer a plain old laptop with a more low-key appearance. It's unfortunate, because I think ASUS has better bang for your buck than Sager does in terms of hardware and warranty, but the Sagers just look that much better IMO.
