How does that work out on a 16:10 Screen?

    Anyway i hope Newegg Gets This + 1440 x 900 (Or Better 1680 x 1050)
    That would make my christmas.

I may purchase one and manually upgrade it to WUXGA, if they only have WSXGA+ max.

And how are you going to do that huh?

Alot of misguided comments so far. The 9800m GS (score from a guy who purchased the G50VT) gets 8200 at 1300*700. If that was the normal res 3dmark06 uses (1200*1000) that would become 7200~. That is lower than the 9700m GTS and only a bit higher than the 9700m GT.

Also, the 9800m GS. 9700m GT and GTS would obliterate every game (cept crysis) at 1366*700. Not med-high, ULTRA HIGH with AA. The default res

I sure hope that the G70sg at least has a 9800m GT, or a GTX now because of the changes in the G50s (probably won't happen because it *already* should have a GTS :( )

I'd find the model number of the current screen, then I'd find a laptop that uses both that screen an a WUXGA screen, I'd then purchase the WUXGA, void my warranty by disassembling the G50VT, apply some Arctic Cooling MX-2 wherever needed, and attempt to swap the screens. If it somehow fails, I'll just re-sale the screen.

its called a 9800GT in GPU-Z cause maybe its a new card not announced by nVidia yet. Maybe it recognises it as a 9800 GT. Dont get all excited it if does say it is a 9800 GT, its definately not up to 9800 GT performance for sure. Asus had to downclock it like crazy so it didnt burn the new G50VT.

    Hello guys,

I am new to the forum. :)

In any case, this laptop looks fantastic given the very reasonable price and I am thinking about buying it, since I would like a good gaming laptop, but on a budget. The only downer is the screen resolution, which does seem a bit too low. I would certainly be willing to pay a bit extra to up the resolution a little.

Some of you have mentioned that other versions of this notebook might appear with better resolutions, but I fear they will also improve the processor and other things and thus drive up the price. Hmm, what to do, what to do...

Prices are not known yet to the public. But yes, the non-Best Buy version will come with a better CPU, dual hard drives, higher resolution and complimentary carrying case + gaming mouse. I suspect it would be similar to the G50V-A1 when it first launched (about $1600-$1700) for the non bluray model.

Well, given the extra features, that would still be a very good price. I wish they just included a carrying bag and a screen with a somewhat better resolution and slapped on an extra $100 on the current price. It certainly doesn't need to be 1920x1200 for me, but 1366x768 is in one dimension even slightly worse than my current resolution of 1280x800 and my current notebook is three years old with ATI Mobility Radeon X700.

The screen will almost certainly be 1680x1050, which IMO is perfect for a 15". I agree with the terrible 1366x768 res on the Best Buy models. You're surely want to play on an external monitor if you want a better gaming experience. We'll see the reseller versions of the G50Vt soon enough with the exact prices. Hopefully there won't be any delays from Asus as they tend to release them a few days to weeks after the official release date.

Either of those two resolutions would definitely be perfectly fine by me.

I you are right - we probably won't have to wait much longer to see the reseller versions. I wonder why BestBuy got the laptop first anyway - I would have thought that it is also technically a reseller of Asus's proucts.

Probably not. The Best Buy version of the G50V came with the same 1366x768 15.6" display, but the reseller versions were 15.4" 1680x1050 displays. I would expect the same for the G50VT.

saw it at BB , looks better then the gateway. but the screen size and rez. is low as i'm used to the 17 inch 1080P size. some of u are also casting doubts on the 9800gs it seems.

... How, long, have you guys known about this? :(

    I like it :)

Any chance other sellers would be able to get rid of the lid? Or that it would just come with a black/silver finish, I hate when these companies do this.

Well, yes, I can see your point - a laptop has to be both for gaming and for work and flashy designs are inappropriate to bring to some settings.

I am definitely planning on buying a new notebook soon and this laptop is a candidate, but I must chose carefully, because once I buy it, I will have to keep it for another three years or so. On top of that, I don't have a desktop, so the computer must be pretty universal.

Buy a G50Vm lid off ASUS eStore and swap it? There's a good chance it's swappable, since it's basically the same notebook.

Besides, when the "real" G50Vt's come around (the A1, A2 etc.) they may have a different color scheme.

just remember that if you buy from newegg you will not get the same support that you will with an asus reseller. I to was looking to buy my notebook from newegg but newegg is always higher on the price.

just wish this laptop didnt have this flashy design n theback... i have been debating for a couple of weeks on whether to get the g50v-a1 due to its orange color... really like the dual hard drive option, but then i saw this laptop so i was like yes good things come to those who wait, so it was perfect until i saw the back of the lid... then i was like oh no they didnt.

cause like arom.. i cant walk around camppus with a lid like that... so besides the "GPU improvement".. how does it differ than its predecessor the g50v...

If the lid is the only thing making you not like this new model, I think a lid skin would easily solve that and both be easier and cheaper than trying to swap it for another lid.

Plus then you can design your own stuff.

I would have held out for the G50VT-A1 if I had known it was going to exists, I like the looks & specs better.

That could be dandy idea. Heck, I've been adoring the U6 for a while to take with me in the 'field', maybe I'll just see what they've refreshed when it comes out. This C90s will run all the games I care now to play. I really just need a backup computer because I work for myself, and if I'm out a computer for repairs, I'm done working til it comes back.

Lid skins are basically covers or stickers you place over the notebook cover.
Here's a few websites that provide skins

I don't get why the do that either. I am in grad school, that lid makes me look like an idiot at school and work. Asus, if you are listening, just because we want a gaming laptop doesn't mean we want to tell every person I meet "I PLAY COMPUTER GAMES!". Make a plain option please!

Agreed... I've been considering buying a G50V-xxxx model, but the looks are absolutely awful. The hardware is great, but I much prefer a plain old laptop with a more low-key appearance. It's unfortunate, because I think ASUS has better bang for your buck than Sager does in terms of hardware and warranty, but the Sagers just look that much better IMO.
