I'd say I like the Newegg one better than BB's one. 'cause the display is better and I think we get an Asus warranty unlike BB's one.

I remember when ODM notebooks like the Sager were considered ugly and cheap looking... wait, they still are.

The G50 will look fine to a lot of folks and will sell a lot of units.

Yeah, I prefer the orange, but I will live with silver/blue theme.

I like bling notebooks. The day job forces me to be conservative so I like my hobbies loud.

Well I just purchased one of these laptops at bestbuy. The hard drive is a ST9320421AS in the device manager, which has 7200 rpm specs listed on Seagates website. Also here is some of the specs from the GPU. I ran the techpower program for the GPU specs.

The 9800m GT has 96 shaders. The 9800m GTS has 64.

So there ya go, its a heavily downclocked 9800m GTS. Even if it isnt, IT IS NOT A 9800GT! I dont care what GPU-Z says, dont get your hopes up people.

According to the people who wrote the GPU spec program at techpowerup the program pulls the name from the driver. Then you can compare the specs given. So if the 9800m GT has 96 shaders then the card would be the 9800m GS as stated on the laptop sticker. I don't think those specs are a let down. I thought the laptop was a good buy. It may not be the best buy but it was a good buy.

??? Its a 1250 notebook with Centrino 2 and a 9800m GS. It doesn't need to be anything else in order for people to want it. Its faster than a 8800m GTS - thats a good thing.

No madness. Questions was answered a while ago and them confirmed recently. 530/1325 G94 with 64 shaders.

I get a boring heavy old Toshiba for work so you can understand my post office exuberence.

Can you guys confirm that it doesn't has Bluetooth?
Also, does it come with the Asus International Warranty? If it has the warranty this computer is everything i've been looking for: a decent gaming machine around or below 1500$ from a manufacturer that provides worldwide warranty.

Is there going to come out another g50 version of Asus outside Bestbuy better than this one?

The notebook has a 12 month warranty. I not sure about international, but would guess no. This laptop is marketed for Bestbuy. One USB left side, One USB back side, two USB right side.

If you mean the X83Vm-X1 its on sale for $899. 1GB 9600 GS and the same P8400 processor as my G50VT-X1. Not a bad buy, but I am not crazy about the color and wanted a larger screen.

I got my G50VT-X1 today at Best Buy. It has a quiet fan, very good screen, very little bloatware, very good build quality, and no keyboard delay. This laptop will be replacing my 2 year old desktop. Before having this new notebook computer, I tried out a Dell XPS M1530 in March of this year, I took it back within a few days of receiving it because of the flaws it had. I really liked how the XPS M1530 looked liked. The G50VT-X1's design is a cross between the Dell Studio lineup and the XPS M1530.

You may want to hold off buying for a little while. It seems to have a display glitch. IE the screen goes black and may or may not come back when you reboot it. This happened to me when I was checking it out at BB. It came back when it was rebooted. But for other people they had to return it. Gateway's 7811 seemed to have several problems when it first came out with about a 10 to 20 percent return rate but was latter fixed.

Although this seems to be a good buy for the price, the biggest drawback to me is the lack of a center scroll button on the touch pad. Makes scrolling web pages and Word docs a real pain without a mouse.

Oh and a quick question. I see the antena connect on the side but Vista 64 says that no tuner is installed. When I go to the Asus Drivers page and look under Vista 32-bit I see all of the TV Tuner software but nothing on the Vista 64-bit side.

Any idea if the G50Vt-x1 has a tvt tuner built in and if not would it be possible to put one in after the fact. I pulled the cover but I did not dig deep enough to see what the ant. connected to.

Another thing I noticed with the cover off was that the second drive bay did not have a mounting bracket installed. Are these hard to find?

AFAIK the US ASUS models do not come with TV tuners (issues with the NTSC standard, maybe?)

As to the warranty, again AFAIK BestBuy models have BestBuy warranty, not the ASUS international warranty.

The bracket might be available on the ASUS eStore. Otherwise maybe one of the resellers will have it.

The bestbuy page is down :(

I know the warranty is only one year, but do you go through Asus still or is it done through bestbuy? Any word on a specific date that someone else will get this thing? I like everything except the warranty and tax

This would be a really nice laptop if offered through resellers with a better resolution. I see the resellers hiking up the price a lot though, which makes me curious as to how this model will compete with the G50V-A1/A2 models. They'd have to be nearly the same price, which means the G50V owners got screwed.

Newegg has the Asus G50V-X1 on sale for $1349 and today they sent out a promo code in their newsletter for $100 off bringing down the price to $1249. I ordered mine today, since my previous laptop died yesterday. I was going to consider the G50VT-X1 from best buy for price/performance/avalability, but since I can get the other one through newegg, with a 2 year warranty, and a better screen resolution, then this was just as good of a deal for me, since I really need something soon.

    Asus G50V-X1 from Newegg
    Promo code is

    Asus G50Vt-X1....9800mGS
    G50V-A1.....9700mGT

I can get either for same money (BB and Newegg respectively).
The question is what, if considerable, is going to be the differance between the two cards in game play.
Then its the A1's better resl........Hmm....my head is starting to throb.lol.

I would suggest you to wait for 1-2 weeks, since that's when the G50Vt-A1 will be available from Asus resellers. The prices should be relatively similar to the G50V-A1.
