The GatewayFX went on sale quite a few times after its release on August 2008. Maybe a month and a half or two at a time.

Um... can't send you a private message since you don't have 20 posts which is why you can't sent me one either. I got my G50 a different way, but if you're looking to import a laptop from the US all you need to do is to locate the store near you (bestbuy has a store locator), purchase the notebook, open it up out of the box and take out the essential stuff like the laptop and adapters. Then you ship the box to a location at home and cross the border by declaring the laptop as a personal item. It would be wise to take a flash or USB drive with you to upload a few files into the computer’s hard drive before you cross.

gateway is coming out with a new model for gaming. it basically a upgraded 780 but with alot more umf. fast cpu which i thin will be a 2.5. someone or something i read some where that they might try a sli version but that will make the price go up which i think that should be a option to upgrade. tba for spring unless more research and development is needed.

So the GTX would be a bad idea and just upgrade the CPU, do you guys know if a X9100 CPU would fit and if it does imagine the performance with the two especially with the resolution of the screen..and does anyone have any benchmarks for this system? at least a 3DMARK 06 score?
I am really tempted to just pull the trigger and rip this thing apart just to upgrade it.

I believe a X9100 would work. The ASUS G50Vt has great cooling and should be able to handle it. As for the 3dmark06 score people have posted scores of 8,800+ @2.5Ghz.

It's a dud. In other countries, the G50s are sold with a TV tuner. It would be cheaper for Asus to make every G50 unit with the tuner port rather than not installing them for certain countries.

With the cpu at 2.9ghz and the gpu OCed too, I got 9027 on an external monitor (so I could pull full res).

And yes, people are putting the X9100 in this thing. (See this thread forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=315593)
    Isn't it really expensive though?

Doesn't using an external monitor reduce performance a little?
i.e. If you were able to run the standard test resolution on the laptop's screen, the score should be higher?

Wow, an X9100 would be incredible, but I don't think I could stomach dropping $800 on a CPU.

I got a great recommendation from BB on this one and I don't really need the G7 series. Any feedback on docking station for this model? I am waiting for the price to go back to $999, not $1249.

The last sale for $999 came and went pretty quickly, dunno when there will be another one. ASUS also seems to be reorganizing the G50VT lineup, which could result in a new SKU instead.
