Ever since I upgraded to the new BIOS, I have been having problems with my touchpad. If I don't shut my laptop off for lets say 4 days keep it in hibernate and sleep mode, then on the fifth day the touchpad stops responding whenever I turn it on from sleep or hibernate mode. It takes a minute for it to start responding or i have to complete shut the laptop off. Anyone have a solution or had gone through this problem. Also anyone found a fix for the fan noise? I am past thirty days so I can't exchange it now, just have it sent to ASUS to repair it.

The ASUS one, since I never D.L Elan.

BUMP.

I thought I could hit Fn+F9 to turn on the touchpad when it is not working but it is actually turning it off when I do that (meaning that it was already on). I did not check which BIOS version I have, I believe it is the one from June. This is really annoying as I don't use the mouse all the time... -
Same prob for me as well. The internet navigation also becomes slow after sleep or hibernate and i have to restart. Did you install the system on the SSD ? I did follow the guide to do so perhaps it could be linked
-
No I never reinstalled anything, just kept it as it was. I hope when Windows 8 comes out this problem will be fixed. Anyone find a solution for this?
-
bumpppppppp.

I re-installed the ASUS drivers a few days ago and the problem went away. But it came back today.
-
Same issue here.
The touchpad is dead after sleep.
Additional notes:
- The touchpad buttons actually work, its only the touchpad itself that does not responds.
(E.g. clicking the right touchpad button opens the context menu while the cursor can not be moved)
- The icon in the notification area ("ASUS Smart Gesture") correctly shows how many fingers is touching the touchpad. So the problem does not seem to be the driver ( ? ).
- There is no minimum sleep time for this to occur on my machine. If I just close the lid, and then open it 10 seconds later, the problem reoccurs.
- After a few minutes it sometimes starts working by itself if the lid is left open.
- If I just insert and then remove the USB adapter for my wireless mouse, the touchpad starts working. (Edit: not consistently though.)

My touchpad seems to be quite loose on the left side and kills my overall experience with the UX32VD:

Is it supposed to be like this? -
The touchpad is tooo sensitive, every time Im writing a text the mouse jumps around...
-
If you haven't opened the computer at all, you could still try to open it (you need a T5 torx screw driver to remove the bottom) and tighten the screws holding the battery.
It worked for me anyway, hope it will help you too -

Has anyone found a solution for this? Or are the only ones who are having such problems?
-
Do you know if it's possible to put a little piece of double sided foam between the battery and touchpad to push it more firmly in place?
If anyone is willing to try, be sure to let us know. This is right now the only thing keeping this machine from beeing perfect -
^ Same for me. Requested an return to seller but if I could fix it myself it would obviously be much better.

Did anyone ever solve this issue?
-
I asked ASUS about the problem and got this answer:
Dear Valued Customer,
Thank you for contacting ASUS Customer Service.
Hi,
For this issue, firstly, have you installed any other memory to the laptop? If so, please remove it for the compatible problem may cause this phenomenon.
Secondly, Please try the following method:
1.go to control panel ,open the network and internet ->network connections->network and sharing center->change adapter settings
2.right click the wireless connections ,hit the properties
3.hit "configure" ,switch to Power management, disable "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power.
If the problem still remains, please try to reinstall all the ATK drivers.

So did it work or not? For me it does not.

I have the same problem with my UX32VD (out of the box). And one time the tp stopped responding during use. Clicking works but no mouse movement. So I tried two finger swipe - still no mouse movement. Then three finger swipe - now the mouse started to move again!
Regularly the left click + drag on the scroll bar, or one tap to select doesn't work for a moment. -
This time when the tp stopped responding (mouse move) the above three finger swipe didn't solve the issue. Instead I restarted QuickGesture, QuickGesture64, and AsusTPCenter and that "unlocked" the mouse. This time...

So has this ever been fixed? This is an incredibly annoying bug for such an expensive laptop.

A new touchpad driver was released (Asus Smart Gesture). Maybe the issue has finally been resolved? Any experiences?
-
Ok they seriousely screwed up two finger scrolling now... this is perhaps even more annoying than the unresponsive click bug (though that one may finally have been solved).
Try scrolling through a website or large PDF file now. :'( -

Press/click registration issue seems to be resolved, but only in Windows. In Linux it's still problematic.
However, they totally destroyed 2-finger scrolling. It is pretty much unusable now. -
Still no freezing nor any other issues. I'm keeping my finger crossed.
2-finger scrolling may be a bit different but still useful I find. Maybe it depends on what is being scrolled? -
I ve used the Elantec software ... then few days ago I came back to the Asus smart gesture
The two finger scrolling is smotth enougth to be used all the time
What is missing is to personnalize the finger commands as middle button or application
Otherwise all basic features are present .... the Elantic give me more possibility but is well less adapted to this Touchpad ..
I hope in the future we will have more functionnality from Asus
the things I never used is the three finger horizontal scrolling to replace ALT+Tab
just my point of view -
1. two-finger right mouse click: it only works after trying it forcefully for a number of times.. extremely annoying
2. two-finger scrolling: it only works when I keep my fingers horizontal now, and very often it moves the mouse while scrolling.. almost unusable now -
Im not the best with computers but I had the same problem and searched and searched and found nothing that helped. Then I just started poking around on my NEW s400c and think I figured out the problem. Please let me know if this helps you.
In the notification status area over by your clock on the right side of your toolbar click on the small arrow pointing up.
There you should see where you can safely among other things.
You should see a dark square with a red dot or slash through it. Click on it. It is for your trackpad.
It should bring up a screen with options to customize your track pad.
Click reset to default settings and apply.
This worked for me so far. I will keep you updated. Please share on other boards as needed if this worked for you.
Thanks,

Merrit8..Thanks for such a simple answer to a irritating problem that ASUS doesn't cover in their own manual or on their website. This worked great for me. The touchpad icon was in the notification area all along and you can customize it there by clicking on it!

If anyone is still having issues with trackpad driver, here is my solution.
The sensitivity issue and unbearable scrolling was driving me nuts. As appeared, it was not a crappyly built trackpad, but entirely a driver issue. I didnt have any luck with ELAN or Asus drivers for UX32VD, but found one form Toshiba to do the trick.
The trackpad's responsiveness now is just unrecognizably accurate and scrolling is a bless after installing Elan's drivers for Toshiba Satellite U50D. I have been using this driver now for a year and am happy I did since I was really into selling this laptop.
The ELAN driver version I used is 11.8.7.4. You cannot install it the regular way from setup, since it is meant for Toshiba, but update the driver from device manager and point to the extracted drivers from the setup. -
