same here i get 5.0 for graphics.

vinceboiii Animals are friends, not food.
-
Do you get the exact same scores as I do?
-
Hey vinceboiii, what resolution were you running Crysis at when you got 20 fps?
Anyone else tested any other games yet on it?
Went to Best Buy today to toy with it again. The speakers sounded fine, don't think I'll need it much louder. As for typing, I did experience some minor typing lag. Not sure if it's because I was typing too fast, but I think part of my left palm slightly touches the touchpad while typing, gets annoying sometimes, but that happens to me on every laptop computer. -
I dont have hard figures, but it runs Far Cry 2 real nice on high details

AHHHHH man i wanted it so bad. But nows its off sale and I canted afford it. I might compromise battery life for power and go with the other Asus with the 9300m gs -
From what i have researched the 9300 doesnt hold a candle to 9600
-
Guitar_Hero_Bml Notebook Evangelist
yea thats true, which is why i said Im gonna prolly compromise and get better battery life but lose the power
-
can somebody run mass effect test on systemrequirementslabs.com?
-
Has anyone figured out the max amount of RAM this notebook will recognize?
-
It runs the test great.. Past the recommended settings
-
Can someone test an ubuntu livecd? or install it?
Tell us how it runs!? I'm concerned about the audio, I've never heard of an azalia chip
video?
WHat kind of performance do you get?
battery life?
etc.
How's linux run on this thing? -
I'd like to reformat and reinstall Windows when I get this laptop; however I'm having a difficult time finding drivers for 64-Bit Vista. The only ones listed on the Asus site are:
- Bios
- Card Reader
- Intel Turbo Memory Technology
Anybody have any luck finding the rest? Will the drivers for 32-bit Vista work? -
For many recent laptops from ASUS, the drivers are dual 32/64 bit. I cannot say for sure that for your laptop that will be the case, but there is a good likelihood that it will.
-
For those wanting to reformat, is that to get rid of all the bloatware and to repartition the HD into one partition?
I plan on using this thing for gaming on the go. Would having a single drive be better than partitioning it into two seperate drives like it comes already? -
I personally prefer the 2nd partition, b/c it makes reformatting in the future easier.
Anybody know if hybrid-sli is enabled with this notebook? -
Ok next question, not to get away from the Laptop itself, but whats hybrid-sli?
-
I am interested in buying the Asus X83Vm-X1 at Best Buy but I am confused on the specs. Best Buy's page on it says the ram is PC-5300 but a customer review on that website says it's actually PC-6400 ram. I was wondering if anyone that currently owns this laptop could verify which type of ram it is.
-
There are actually quite a few discrepancies between the BestBuy specs and the actual specs.
It advertises that the video card has 1GB of DDR3, when others have said that it doesn't.
It also advertises an LED screen and I've also seen reports indicating that is false also.
Can anyone confirm the actual specs? -
Need updates from the people that have been using the laptop. Still running good? Any additional pros/cons? Hows the touch pad buttons, still hard to push down?
-
Mine still running great.. I don't notice the touch pad buttons being too bad.. One thing I would like to try is a lighted keyboard. I do alot of typing in the dark, or dimly lit room.. I've never used a laptop with this feature so I don't know if it actually works or not.. Or how much battery it uses(wastes). Other than that, it runs games great on it. I've been playing BF2 and Fallout 3.. No complaints.
-
PC-6400 or PC-5300 RAM?
-
Customer Review's on Best Buy's site say specs are wrong
-
Just got mine.
RAM is 800mhz. I assume that's PC-6400?
Touchpad buttons are hard to press. The weird thing is that the left click is not as difficult as the right click. The difference between the two is significant. Doesn't really make sense. -
vinceboiii Animals are friends, not food.
yeah same with my clicks plus the right click, at the top left corner its slightly pushed down u know what i mean?? so it looks uneven. ill try to get a picture -
For those waiting for this deal you should take a loot at this instead.

ASUS N80Vn Final Price: 969
Better GPU
Original ASUS warranty as opposed to BB -
Wow! My mind has been changed after seeing that! I'm most likely going for the
ASUS N80Vn-GP011C 14.1" 2.4GHz/4GB/320GB/DVD±RW Laptop
NVIDIA GeForce 9650M GT 1GB (1024MB) DirectX 10 Support
$200 rebate, LED display better graphics card, faster CPU... this one pwns the BB one! -
vinceboiii Animals are friends, not food.
nice, wow. that kinda makes me regret my purchase haha. uhh got a question, not sure if iits really a problem but right now my laptop is plugged in and it says 98% (plugged in, not charging) thats usually said when its at 100% plus be4 this i had it at around 74% and it said the same thing. The charging indicator light is not on either.
-
vinceboiii Animals are friends, not food.
wow this stupid laptop(N80Vn) really makes me want to sell my x83vm-x1. lol i think imma do it!
-
vinceboiii Animals are friends, not food.
selling my x83vm-x1 now lol look at sig.
-
98% is not a problem, it can be ascribed to sensor error (or sloppy firmware implementation, since the sensors on the batteries are nowadays quite accurate).
75% on the other hand is a problem. I suggest a battery calibration (BIOS), and if that doesn't solve the problem and the readings keep varying wildly, you may have a faulty battery. -
vinceboiii Animals are friends, not food.
this doesn't happen all the time though i've only seen that 75% once. so yeah
-
I actually used the Live.com $200 cashback to buy the X83Vm-X1 off of eBay. Final price was $665. I'm on a budget and don't need the latest and the greatest, so this was pretty good deal for me.
Has anyone been able to confirm that the ASUS X83Vm-X1 doesn't have an LED screen? -
How did your downgrade go? I want to buy this machine and go to XP but I need to find out if all the drivers are available.
-
I actually never got around to it. I installed ubuntu, which works perfectly, and just have vista in case theres a game I want to play that doesn't have a linux version
-
Ok, so can we confirm the 9600M GT on the x83vm-x1 is DDR3? To the best of my knowledge the 9650M GT in the N80 is DDR2...
Can anyone confirm or deny? -
I'm pretty sure that the best buy version wouldn't have a ddr3 card with a full gig of vram, since it's stripped out other small features compared to the baseline N80vn that it's based on. When I went in to BB to play with it hands on, there was a very clear label on the side of the cardboard box that said N80vn.
-
I am head there right now to look for my self. I hope they arnt closed (early) for Veterans day. The spec list on Best Buy's website says DDR3. Depending on the return policy, I may walk out with it. We will have to see. If there is at least a 72 hr no questions asked return policy I will probably get it. If I cant get any tools to report DDR3 or it doesn't benchmark like a DDR3 9600M GT should I will return it.
-
Well...
Just got out of Best Buy.
The X83VM was connected to the internet. I was able to download and run GPU-Z. (note: this will cause the floor manager to come ask you what your doing).
I took a screen shot but was interrupted by the floor manager before I could email it to my self.
So instead of emailing it to my self I just asked the manager if I could borrow her pin. lol
GPU-Z reported:
430 core, 400 memory, 1075 shader, 1 GB DDR2.
I was trying to see if it was somehow powered down when the manager interrupted me. But from what I could tell before that, it was not.
Not only is it DDR 2 but it is fairly under clocked!
I grilled the managor with a ton of questions.
She said the have a 14 day money back garanty and a 15% restocking fee. I strait out asked her, if I bough this and I didnt like how it performed I could bring it back. She said yes. She said If I was to exchange it the restocking fee would be waved. I made it clear to her the Asus was the only one I was intrested in and there would be no exchange.
So just when she has me sold she drops the bomb. "Will you be paying in cash?" I tell her yes. She explains that the money would be sent back to me in the form of a check mailed to my residence and if I wanted an immediate refund I would have to put it on a credit card. So no sale.
Other thoughts and observations:
It is marked on the box N80VN-2BGP
Clearly an N80 remake.
Its in the same case as the F8
The screen seemed washed out. I was NOT impressed.
The buttons on the touch pad took considerable force to depress. Much more then the ones on my F8
Over all, I think its a POS.
Stick with the F8. Unless this is a Best Buy thing, if the actual N80's are the same they suck.
Also, I personal feel this laptop is only worth about $800. When you can get the N80Vn-X1 for $950 I wouldn't waist my money on this POS -
Guitar_Hero_Bml Notebook Evangelist
Wow, I sure am surprised by the speeds on this thing. It's WAYYYY underclocked. But was still a good deal for 900 bucks. not for the current price. -
Keep in mind you have to double the memory to get actually (theoretical depending on how you look at it) memory speed
Best Buy
430 400(800) 1075
Actual
500 400(800) 1250.
I bet you anything you could bring those clock rates right up to where they need to be with no trouble. I bet Best Buy did it to keep thermals low.
I want to get it and bench it...
If you go to the Best Buy in Grand Junction CO there will be a BMP screen shot of the GPU-Z stats on the desktop. lol -
CNET has a review now, if anyone's interested.
http://reviews.cnet.com/laptops/asus-x83vm-x1-core/4505-3121_7-33361040.html -
Ha that's pretty good - I went to the BB in Westminster and got the manager to pull this laptop (they had only the X83vb on display, the lower end/cheaper/uglier one IMO), and let me play with it outside of the locked down stands, where I downloaded the k-lite pack to play a ripped xvid movie, ran 6 flash websites in the background, and played a DVD as well, to check on multi-tasking capabilities. Found the screen to be sort of washed out by default, but there were more than a few display "profiles" for color/gamma/etc., and the control panel for the vid card has settings to tweak everything manually via sliders.
I could imagine BB buying these N80 one-offs with lower quality VRAM on the cards, to save costs, so I wonder if OC'ing would work effectively. I still don't understand how BB can run such poor Asus configs w/limited warranties. Anyone looking at Asus laptops should be aware of how good the laptops *should* be. -
Totally agree! I'm not sure if any amount of adjusting would fix it though. It would just be variants of wash-out too me... i think...
Ya... I dont know how they can sell any of them for that price. But for around $750, which I think is completely reasonable, they would be flying off the shelf.
If the N80Vn-X1 is $900, why would anyone buy that POS.
Does anyone know if the N80Vn-X1 has DDR3 vid?
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834220389 -
I can't imagine that it would have a different (and superior) graphics card than the higher end spec'd versions.
-
So then it is confirmed. The 9650M GT in both the X1 and the GP011C are both DDR2?
-
How about XP compatibility? Can someone put an xp drivers for this laptop on rapidshere or similar way?I'm planing to buy it and I don't want vista os:/Thanks!
-
ClearSkies Well no, I'm still here..
Asus recycles drivers for most things into Vista, or uses the same drivers (i.e. XP) across multiple product lines. That said, the X83 is a new Vista-only model and Asus does not provide XP driver support for any of their new models.... but you might get lucky.
BestBuy gets exclusive retailer units for discounted pricing to offer for sale and improve their revenue stream, and Asus gets a foot through the door in the lucrative North American market where people 1) don't buy things they've never heard of unless they're at a retailer they're comfortable in, and 2) tend to value price above all other factors in making purchasing decisions (the WalMart effect). Brilliant marketing move on Asus' part, actually, as Dell and everyone else has now moved over and is now directly competing in the B&M marketplace. -
I bought this laptop on Sunday, then while looking around yesterday, I saw the N50Vn-A1B on newegg for $950. After tax, the X83 was $956, so I thought why the hell not, and bought the N50. I get a stronger video card, larger screen, full keyboard, 2 year Asus warranty, etc. The only downside is that I lost 260Mhz off of the processor. Not a big deal, since I'm used to a 1.6GHz Core duo. Any modern core 2 would be faster than it.

Just got my hands on this baby and would like to know if it is at all possible to install Windows 2000 on it? I run mostly older software and games which worked fine on Win2K. Thanks.
