The bezel is black. See this clip at 0:16 , it's just a short glimpse of the white version: Asus Zenbook Infinity UX301 with Haswell and touchscreen - YouTube . I'm pretty sure I have some pictures of it on the PC at home, if you're interested, I'll upload them later today.

If you are interested in the different models, here is a link to price comparison website with different models (even the white) Suche nach Asus Zenbook UX301

I'm very interested in the UX301 but I also like the new Ativ book 9 Plus.

    thanks mike & mrkey!

Seems like the palm rest area looks more white than silver?

Also seems like the 1440p is never combined with 4500U/4400HD, but please correct me if I'm wrong.

I wished there were some comparisons if the 4558U version has measurably more fan/heat issues than the 4500U.

In the below list, note that it would be interesting to know if the low spec version (128) uses raid 0.

    1.1 UX301LA-C4013H blau Full HD i7 SSD 2x256=512 GB 8 GB 1799
    1.2 UX301LA-C4014H weiß Full HD i7 SSD 2x256=512 GB 8 GB 1799

    2.1 UX301LA-C4005H weiß Full HD i7 SSD 2x128=256 8gb 1599
    2.2 UX301LA-C4006H blau Full HD i7 SSD 2x128=256 8GB 1599

    3.1 UX301LA-C4003H blau Full HD i5 SSD 128 4 GB 1299 (unclear if this is raid0 2x64)
    3.2 UX301LA-C4004H weiß Full HD i5 SSD 128 4 GB 1299 (unclear if this is raid0 2x64)

    4. UX301LA-C4019H weiß Full HD i5 SSD 2x128 8gb 1499 (sic)

    5. UX301LA-DE022H blau Ultra High-Res i7 Iris 256GB 8GB 1799 (obviously they mean 2x128GB raid0)

here's a very good look on the white version. It seems like it actually combines glossy white with silver and black. I think this looks like an interesting, unusual combination. Sure to turn heads. The blue/black is a bit more boring, but will probably look more professional, rather than stylish. OK, sorry for this blah-blah. Here's the vid:
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B4M5_p_9UVY

What I find stupid is how ASUS offers lots of combinations (some of which are not necessary IMHO), but leaves out more interesting combinations like
    * matte instead of touch
    * 1440p instead of 1080p on the 4500U
    * LTE.

I think all versions should have 8 gig of RAM. At least the low versions should have 6 gig. 4 gig is just useless.

Is the UX302 1080p and not 1440p? How's the heat and noise? Pictures?

According to this news below, it's 1080p.
Asus Unveils Zenbook UX301 and UX302 Ultrabooks
"The UX302, however, is only available in 1920 x 1080 although both models support 10-finger multitouch. Asus also boasts that the screen is capable of clear viewing angles up to 178 degrees."

Asus USA did not provide ETA on their roadmap.

    1) If you could comment on the build quality of UX302 vs UX301, and maybe vs UX31A and Macbook Pro 13 Retina as some reference points, that would be amazing.

I'm expecting the UX301 to be top notch, but I'm not certain about the possible clam shell design of the UX302. Does it flex more/feels less solid than UX301?

    2) What is the HDD configuration in the UX302? I'm guessing it's not the PCIe RAID0 like in the UX301? Is it just a normal 7mm drive?

    3) What is the battery capacity/battery life of UX302 compared to UX301?

    4) How are temps when stressed/gaming on the UX302?

    5) What's the 1080p screen on the UX302 like (color space/accuracy, contrast, etc.) compared to the UX301 QHD screen?

    Thanks a bunch!

Here's a good photo of the white version. It really looks good. I think it's a different thing if a notebook is completely white, or has only minimal silver appliances, versus this design. it look more like an even distribution of silver, white, and black. It reminded me of a designer kitchen... :)

    1. I'll have a video wit the two side by side, hopefully later this week. Till then, then UX302 is much like the older UX32VD. Or in other words, the metal sheet on the underbelly is very thin and the body tends to squeak and flex when grabbing the laptop. The UX301 is more robust. So is the MBA.

    2. yes, 7mm 2.5 inch drive

    3. 50 Wh, so a tad smaller than then one on the UX301

    4. See the performances section in here: Asus Zenbook UX302LG review - the GAMING 13 inch ultrabook . Unfortunately I still haven't bought a proper IR thermometer to measure those exterior temperatures. The belly and the area just on top of the keyboard do get hot while running games for hours and it's not comfortable to touch them when this happens, but I've seen worse. I'd reckon they reach 50+ degrees Celsius, but like I said, can't exactly measure that

    5. I have nothing to complain, except for some light bleeding, which seems to be more or less a given with Zenbooks... A non-glare non-touchscreen would have been nice also, imh. But I'll have the two units one next to the other in a few days and then I'll be able to say if there's any real difference between them. I don't have a colorimeter, that's just one more thing on my list of things to get :p

Hope these help. You'll find more details in the post and especially in the video, which I'm still working on and should be live in a few hours. And if you have other questions... well, I'll be around.

Awesome review Mike!! It's kind of disappointing to see that the build quality isn't as good as UX301... Is the difference mainly due to the bottom plate? (e.g. is the rest of the laptop frame an aluminum/plastic hybrid or an aluminum unibody?)

Did you actually mean thunderbolt????? Or is it only a mini display port?

I've been looking around and around for a haswell ultrabook at 12"-14" with thunderbolt and couldn't find ANYTHING at all other than the upcoming macbook pro retina 13".

Interesting... This is definitely unexpected... Is this documented in the official specifications anywhere?

Could you check if this is also the case on your UX301?

From what I have seen, this isn't the case on the UX301, UX31A, or the UX32VD, and it's very weird (and awesome) for it to just randomly appear on the UX302.

Wow that's really interesting. Mini-DisplayPort and Thunderbolt are identical connectors, but that logo does look like evidence of Thunderbolt being on board. Which would be HUGE news, as it opens up the possibility for adding an eGPU via Thunderbolt PCIe enclosure.

I wonder why NOTHING has mentioned it having Thunderbolt so far. Can you check to see if this is present?:

I'm having a hard time finding that particular line, I think that's from Windows 7 and it's in a different place in Windows 8.

Anyway, just to be sure, I'm looking in Device manager, View >> Devices by connection . Or is it somewhere else? Either way, I've been digging through Device manager and haven't found anything about Thunderbolt yet

We should be conservative about this for now until someone actually tests a Thunderbolt device.
Because if it's not mentioned by ASUS, then it may not be there since official spec only mentions about miniDP.
Also, the logo isn't a Thunderbolt logo, please refer to the images below for Thunderbolt logos.

    Thunderbolt Logo on Apple Mac.

And it is not a typical DisplayPort logo.

I was looking at the wrong photo, the other one definitely looks like thunderbolt+minidp. Between using a similar logo to usb-charging and port to Mini-DP; they have made this connector very confusing to spot.

Let’s hope they added a Thunderbolt 2 port, that would be truly awesome!
But such a feature should first and foremost be available for the high end UX301, strange to see it on UX302...

And some more interesting discussion about the same logo on the Asus G55 laptop...

"What is that port used for on non-Thunderbolt enabled models?
The port is used as a DisplayPort video output. You can hook up DisplayPort monitors or use an adapter for other connections. DP is great for super-high res monitors as it can output 2560x1440/1600 resolution whereas HDMI cannot.

What is that port icon then? It looks like Thunderbolt
It does not confirmation that your G55 contains Thunderbolt inside, as all G55 chassis are identical.
The Intel Thunderbolt icon is a circle+bolt, however the G55 icon is a square+bolt to indicate the duality of DisplayPort (square) and Thunderbolt (where available). This icon decision was made early and couldn't be replaced - we're very sorry if this causes confusion."

    G55 Thunderbolt clarification

I don't know what to think....

    Nice finding.
However, it's an option (one or both), but they can't afford to print 2 different kinds of logo on that port.
So this is why we need to follow what the spec says and don't assume anything unless it says so.

Yesterday I got notification from Amazon Germany that my ux301 will be delivered this Friday. I will get the 8gb RAM, 256gSSD, i7 version with the WQHD screen. Amazon only has the dark model though I would prefer the white/silver model. However, need to spend a budget item in the next 5 days....
if anyone wants to know any details, let me know over the weekend.

I've also seen what looks like the footprint of a thunderbolt controller on the G46 for example and it ships with no port so this decision could have been last minute.

According to a few retailers they are supposedly receiving the UX301LA-XH72T within 3-4 weeks. Does anyone know the final specifications of this model? There's confusion on the websites whether it's 4GB/8GB and 256GB/512GB SSD.

I'd be interested in if, and if so how much, an SD card protrudes from the chassis in the 301. (Also, if you want to comment on performance of the SD card reader, this would be great.)

It won't win on looks, but those specs are awesome.

Interesting factoids from the ASUS page on the UX301LA at UX301LA - Notebooks & Ultrabooks - ASUS mentioned above...

Windows 8, not 8.1 -- I hope that changes soon

Battery life is up to 7 or 8 hours on the same page: unclear which CPU that is for but I hope the 28W TDP CPU isn't any worse than this

Radio 0 (instead of RAID 0) -- love those marketing folks!
