those prices are a joke.
the premium OEM's are putting on Haswell with 8G RAM is ridiculous.
-
Those prices were listed two weeks ago - I believe we will see a significant drop once they are finally available stateside.
-
The days of paying over $2,000 for a PC is over......at least for me it is.
-
The UX31LA-XH72T will be arriving at US retailers on October 18th!
-
Ah, it was the first time I saw it. Although I wouldn't expect prices to drop very early. Doesn't really matter to me... I plan on buying it on release day. It appears that day will be October 18th... the same day that Windows 8.1 is available. My guess is that all these ultrabooks with super high resolutions need 8.1 for scaling, so that's what is holding up all these new Haswell ultrabooks.
-
Really excited for this notebook. Can anyone tell me where they see the official release date of Oct 18th?
Also a few questions as this will be my first ASUS:
1. Why go with the mini-HDMI? I'm assuming I need to buy an adapter. Isn't that annoying though?
2. What exactly is the Display Port? I've never seen this on any other computer. Most TV's use HDMI as far as I can tell. What is the purpose of this when you have an HDMI port that could also use an adapter for VGA if needed.
3. Warrenty - since (as far as I can tell), you don't buy directly from Asus like you do with Sony or Mac, who provides the warranty? Is it a 3rd party warrenty company (which I am not really trusting of)? Does Asus offer a warranty program after you buy from one of their retailers? Are there any in-home warranty plans where a technician comes to you to reduce time without your pc?
Thanks in advance -
nice! where'd you see that?
-
You can pre-order the UX301LA-DH51T on Amazon right now for $1799. Also, I believe these have a full size HDMI not a micro. Anyone ?

Yes if you look at the OP then it is mini HDMI.
-
If you go to the CompSource link ( here) and then hover over "Click here for availability" and you will see that they are expecting to receive 5 units on the 18th.
-
Does anyone know of a US online retailer that is taking pre-orders for the white version?
-
I would love to know the difference in build quality between 301 and 302. I currently have an order on the ux301 but im considering cancelling it cause of the high price...
-
Now that is a good configuration (8 g ram, 256 SSD) and the price is not bad. I'm waiting for the refurbished ones to come out......
I did'nt think they were going to give this combo (8 g ram, 256 SSD, i5-4200U )? I thought all were coming with 4 g RAM...... -
My understanding is that the build is the same but the 302 uses the Intel 4400 gpu and has a 1920x1080 res.

It always baffles me how poorly error checked official websites are. General web design is such an easy task in terms of programming and graphics work. You would think those errors would be fixed day 1 but they have been there since the page became active.I guess if the person doing it is anything like me, they would get bored doing it and just try to get it done as quickly as possible.
-
That's actually decent pricing for the 512GB Iris model. The 18th can't get here soon enough.
-
Thanks for your effort. I like the fujitsu a lot. It's only real weakness is a lack of iris. That and the great black levels and insane contrast ratio(if notebookcheck is correct) are the reason I will definitely get the zenbook over the Ativ Book 9 Plus. I like my Ativ book 9 Plus but lack of deep black levels always kill a product for me. They are good on this laptop but not great. If the IGZO panel competes in those areas as well as comes out in red like in Japan, it may steal the show from the ZI for me.

Windows 8.1 is still in beta.
-
Windows 8.1 was RTM'd by Microsoft last month and is already available on MSDN/Technet.
Amazon.com will be receiving all versions of the UX301 towards the end of this week. -
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
It could be they may just not bother selling it as 8.1 and just list it as 8 much like service packs.
-
Again...SOURCE please.
Where does it say Amazon will have all versions of UX301 by the end of this week? As far as I can see, it says that nowhere. -
Not sure what you mean by build quality. They are basically the same laptop but with different internals. The main differences are the ux302 has a 1920x1080 display, a GeForce GT 730M 2GB, and a standard HDD instead of just SSD.

UX301LA-DH51T
UX301LA-XH72T
Arriving in distribution centers on 10/18/2013. Confirmed by a purchasing rep from Amazon. As someone else pointed out, Compsource is also showing the same arrival dates through their live inventory system. -
does that include the white ones?
-
I was just about to pre-order one from Amazon UK - then realized that they have the 4500U (HD Graphics) priced similarly to the 4558U (Iris Graphics) in US.
-
Only those two SKU's in Blue.
-
So my pre-order was canceled from CompSource because their 5 units (UX301LA-XH72T) are already sold out. The next expected shipment is two weeks out. Damn. MacMall says they don't have any on order.
A brother cain't even pre-order a $2k laptop these days! I blame obama.
#firstworldproblems -
Why no word on the white ones?
-
here is fresh alternative with WQHD screen from NEC

Anyone knows where can I buy the glorious UX301 with 2560x1440 px, 8GB of RAM and i7 with Iris graphics? At amazon one can only find i5 without Iris.
-
This laptop isn't available yet. The most optimistic expectation of release date is this Friday, October 18th. There are many online vendors who are accepting pre-orders. Simply search for the product number... there are two with your specs:
UX301LA-DH51T (256 GB SSD - 128 GB x 2)
UX301LA-XH72T (512 GB SSD - 256 GB x 2)
Even where I have my pre-prder, it shows 1-2 week ETA guesstimate. Ugh.fabpub likes this. -
lol you summed it up perfectly. I truly don't know how to get my hands on this piece. Certainly #firstworldproblems.
As of today 10/15.
a) We are told that all 5 coming in on 10/18 from Compsource are gone.
b) We have one guy with an "inside source" at Amazon.com that all models will be available at the end of the week. Personally I think thats a load of BS.
c) No other site claims to have these units anytime soon.
So how on earth do I get my hands on this already???? -
Is the headphone socket on the UX301 really only headphone?? As in, no embedded microphone connector? So it is not possible to use a headphone with built-in microphone on the UX301?
-
I like this machine a lot, but according to these specs, it has only 4GB and no word on 8GB, so far. I also wonder if it has matte. In fact, given that this computer was designed exclusively to keep the weight down, one should wonder why they would choose a touch screen on a laptop. Thanks a lot for the pointer.
I'm not entirely sure, but I think the previous LaVie Z's was glossy/touch, however there was, afaik, at least one LaVie Z that was matte, in the past. Hmm. -
Only 4 GB ram and not as thin
-
Here is another review, unfortunately in German only: Asus Zenbook Infinity im Test - ComputerBase. The test sounds quite nice but I'm really disappointed about the short battery life: Watching an HD video it lasts about 5:34 h. I really love this device but when I think about the fact, that I want to have an ultra portable device for university and everyday work it's maybe not the best choice. A Macbook Air has almost double battery life, of course it's not the same performance but even with better hardware it would last longer I think. What do you guys think?
If anybody wants to know somethign about the test, I can translate parts of it in english, just ask.
-
Yep. you are right. But it had 1600x900 screen res. google for Lavie Z reviews to get more details. One thing about Nec ultrabook is it is Japan exclusive - hard to find in retail.
-
You're more than welcome to that opinion, I'm just sharing the information I was given. Is it a 100% guarantee? Absolutely not, and anyone that's ever worked in corporate stock control knows that. Keep in mind that Amazon's inventory system is immediately updated depending on stock/orders. The UX301LA-DH51T already is showing 2-4 weeks delivery due to the orders placed during the "Temporarily out of stock" period. If someone here has placed an order early enough during that time, you should see your notebook shipped out by the 21st. UX301LA-XH72T supplies are extremely tight but 5-10 units (per major distribution center) will be arriving on the 18th.
-
Have we seen any reviews for the UX301LA-DH51T (i5 non-iris graphics)? I'm curious to see if there's better battery life, lower temps. I don't need the extra oomph of iris and am a bit more cash strapped so I'd like to see the differences.
-
With these prices, obviously Asus only intends to sell to a small market-share....Interesting strategy

Found another review, it's in Swedish this time:
Asus Zenbook "Infinity" UX301 - Test / Recension - Bärbara datorer - SweClockers.com
Once again it got high marks despite some minor issues. This definitely seems like one of the best, if not the best ultrabook on the market right now. Can't wait to get my hands on this thing. -
If you read the second page, it looks like Asus ditched their proprietary SSD and went with "pattern 2" or NGFF SSD. Maybe we'll be able to upgrade the SSD on our own?
Here's an Anandtech article: AnandTech | NGFF SSDs: Putting an End to Proprietary Ultrabook SSD Form Factors -
regarding the NEC: what a shame, it seems to be matte, 795g, IGZO 1440p, 256GB, quite thin bezel afaics (though ~14-16mm thick), BUT 4GB RAM. How stupid is that? At least the top model should have 8. Why do they do that?! I would have bought this one, seriously. Would have imported it.
NEC ƒpƒ\ƒRƒ“ | 121ware.com > ƒm[ƒgPC > LaVie Z
( RANT ) And what the h*ll is wrong with Samsung, ASUS? 1,4kg machines as opposed to 795g. I don't need no stupid heavy touch screen on a laptop, and I can take care of my stuff so it won't scratch. Are we kids or what? Kids that need to touch everything, and toss around and scratch their toys. And rant about their toys....... ( /RANT )
However, this seems like an interesting alternative to the 4GB Samsung Series 9 (not plus). Given that the Vaio Pro (leight and avaliable in matte) is flawed in various ways, I wonder how the LaVie performs on various items like WLAN, fan noise etc. However one should not forget that the Series 9 is a very refined, well tested notebook, and granted, the NEC is not as pretty. I guess it won't be too wise looking at the NEC, considering there will only be reviews in Japanese, and no English-speaking forum community around the device

They're blowing out Asus UX31A-DH51 for $699 at Newegg.com .This can only mean one thing -making room for the UX301's! Almost tempted to buy for that ridiculously low price -$400 off MSRP. But, alas, I will wait patiently to spend 3X that on a UX301.

Hmz tricky choice but at that price...
-
Wow, that is hard to pass up... except the darn limited to 4GB RAM...
-
tell me what are you going to run on an ULTRAbook that requires more that 4 GB at once?
-
If you have 8gb, your pc will typically use 4gb and we'll run faster. If you only have 4gb, your pc will typically use only 2-3gb and will start using virtual memory which is slower. People can argue this to death but your computer will be faster with 8gb
Also, if you plan on playing any games, it will use normal ram instead of video ram, due to the lack of dedicated graphics. -
it's $899.99
-
Yesterday's shell shocker was $699. I'm not going to edit my post every time the price changes. That would be silly. You can rest assured that at the time of my OP, the price was $699.
