    @Portable System:
Yea, that was the reason for me to hit on the 32 which has the same problem. Maybe take a look at the Toshiba Satellite z30 ( -A177 I think). I had this on my list, too, but just didn't buy it since i've read it has bad linux support.[/QUOTE]

Already eyed the Toshiba Satellite as I saw the device last week in a Mediamarkt. While I didn't found a review of it yet I read somewhere (I believe on Amazon?) that the fan can be kind of noisy. As I'm really picky about fan noise, that's one reason I want to get rid of my Acer notebook, I decided to wait for now till November. If Asus then still can't deliver I need to rethink my situation and needs.

UX305 is a fanless ultra-portable without dedicated graphics and with a tablet grade processor. Nobody is cross-shopping between the two models.

UX303LN's replacement will probably come once the 5th generation Intel processors hit the market around January.

I know, but as I already said, I don't trust Asus here. They already mixed up the UX3xer- with the UX30xer series here in germany. My impression before was that the 30xer series follows more the ultrabook-route (touchscreen etc) while the UX3xer series is more the classical portable notebook. While in other regions they updated the UX32LN (I believe in scandinavia you get the UX32LN with Hasswell-Refresh cpus) I can't understand why they did not the same here in germany. The UX305 fits perfectly in the ultrabook-class, the german UX303 though is more an updated UX32 in gold. I can't understand Asus here, and knowing how quick they skipped the UX32LN after delivery problems it's very likely for me they will do the same with the UX303LN, especially when a higher version number will hit the market and nevertheless if both machines would be interesting for different audiences. I know, that are just presumptions and I would be really happy if an UX32LN or UX303LN would finally hit the shelves here, but as long Asus is doing such a cluster I believe the worst. Asus will not release two 13" and similar sounding system at christmas time, they will focus on the new and more interesting machine (ultraflat, ultralight, ultrahigh-def, ultrasilent, "add another ultra-buzzword") they announced on the IFA and so the UX305. That's my assumption and fear.

Yeah, I agree that Asus' strategy is confusing. Too many similar models in a short time frame. But, I agree with henrikv, the 305 is not competitive with the 303. It is in a new niche. I think the 303 is set to be the new "flag ship" series if they can ever get supply problems fixed.

My UX303LN has a tiny little rattle when tapping the touchpad also. I noticed it when I first got it, but it doesn't concern me. I think it's just the sides of the part of the touchpad that is supposed to move for physical clicks hitting the palmrest chassis.

I'm in the US and waiting to pull the trigger on a purchase.

Anyone have a way of getting a UX303LN with an FHD screen over here? ( With a US keyboard so no importing)

I can't justify spending the money with the known coloring issue unresolved. The better battery life of an FHD screen would also be a plus; although I could live with a firmware fix if one ever came out...

    Any ideas?

Yep, Germany. Was hard to find that shop, since it's in general hard to find a store, that's not listed on the price comparison websites. I think of that small, but professional local store that you might have in town. Otherwise I don't see a chance to get one, since the big stores obviously are sold out. So I cant't really recommend any shops. Took me 4 Weeks (and 1-2 hours daily) to find "my" shop :/

got my UX303LN-R4142H a week ago from notebooklieferant.com (which was only 1 day available and listed on geizhals.de, yup i was lucky to grab one :D ) and said good bye to my exactly 6 years old asus pro58vn. i changed the ssd with my crucial mx100 512gb. opening the bottom cover was not easy for first time. watching an ux32 disassembly video on yt helped me a lot.
if you want to play games with external monitor, you have to lift up the display of zenbook a little bit, so it can breathe some air.
the matte fhd display has no color issues. it's just perfect!

    Well guys,

I just spent an hour chatting with an ASUS representative who flatly denied there was any color issue with the UX303LN displays sold in the US.

If this is true then that means they are obviously not working on a fix. If it's false that means they are denying the issue exists or simply don't care -- which also does not bode well for expecting a fix.

I really wish that companies would be more transparent. It's clear there is an issue here. You literally would have to be blind NOT to see it.

A shame really. Everything else about this laptop is fantastic.

What are the alternatives for someone who wants discrete graphics on a 13.3 ultrabook?

    Hi Guys,
I'm looking to get ux303ln. The only thing that is holding me back is being able to install Windows 7 on this machine. I have done a lot of googling and have not been able to find the answer if Windows 7 can be installed without any driver issues.

Anyone tried installing Windows 7?

You should be fine installing Windows 7.

Why not run 8.1 with something like StartIsBack+ though?

The Windows 8 backlash is so worthless. Install the old start menu if you want it then it's better than Windows 7 in every way.

I plan on using the machine for mostly development. Many development tools are not fully compatible with windows 8 and I personally do not like the UI. I know there are work arounds ie StartIsBack, ClassicShell etc... But that's not something I want to do.

I love the machine, but I am not sure if I can install Windows 7 with working drivers. Looking at Asus's website, they only have Windows 8 drivers. Does anyone know if they will work with Windows 7?

Has anyone had any issues using the HDMI port on this laptop (I have a UX303LN-C4147H) ?

I am trying to use it with an Asus VW266H monitor. The display properties in windows detects the monitor (ie it correctly lists the monitor name) but nothing ever shows on the screen.
The laptop works fine plugged into my projector using HDMI and other devices plug into the monitor fine using HDMI... but when I try and connect the UX303LN to the Asus monitor nothing happens.

I have tried a couple of different HDMI cables.

Any thoughts on how to get this working?

So I'm having annoying Wi-Fi issues, it fails to connect every time I wake the laptop up from sleep. Looking on the Intel forum this is a known issue with the card used in this laptop and it's driving me nuts. It has been an issue for months, if anyone wants to follow it see here: https://communities.intel.com/thread/49947?start=255

I'm getting really frustrated but otherwise the laptop is perfect, not sure what to do.

And if do a fresh install, will the recover partition when I press f9 go or stay?

T440s does not have discrete graphics. There used to be T430u which was an ultrabook with discrete graphics but for some reason they discontinued the series. If anyone can suggest any decent ultrabook with discrete graphics that would be really welcome because it seems that it's never coming out in EU, have been waiting for it for 2 months now :(

Sorry to hear of your problems. I have seen several comments about problems with wifi on recovery from sleep on other laptops. And, if I remember, other wifi cards.

I never let my UX303LA sleep. I have seen too many wifi and other issues with recovery from sleep.

    Gents,

I finally bought this laptop and so far so good. My Yoga 13 broke (lines appeard in the screen) so I bought this one as a replacement. The only regret is that I should have gone for the ssd variant but these are not being sold in Thailand so I bought this model instead.

The screen is great but I do struggle a bit with the scaling, some programs look great but I use some other programs for work that look not that great.

    Plus points:
I think the keyboard is great - comparing it with my Yoga 13
I think the design is beautiful
The touchpad is so much better than the one in my Yoga 13

I was expecting a little bit better battery life, I have been getting about 5 hours with light use. Maybe with the ssd it would have been higher.

    Cheers,

I like to clone the new ssd, but I have no experience cloning a hdd to a ssd. Your cloning software may require you to re-partition the hdd before you clone if the hdd is larger than the sdd. Another option is to image the hdd and restore the image to the ssd. Again, the hdd may need to be re-partitioned if the hdd is larger than the sdd. And there could be an issue with restoring an image to different hardware.

If you do a fresh install, there is no recovery partition in any installation media that I know of. If you wanted to do a fresh install and still have a recovery partition you could make a Windows 8.1 USB recovery drive with the recovery partition copied to the USB. Then you wouldn't need the recovery partition on the new ssd.

I took my UX303LA to an Asus repair center for my ssd upgrade to be sure I didn't void any warranty or scratch the case or cause any other damage. (I have already caused damage to two other laptops while upgrading.)

    Good luck, Jim

I had this same issue. Intel's AC 7260 is buggy. I'm not happy with the range and had the same issue you're describing. I had to disable and then re-enable the wifi adapter in the Device Manager. Annoying but once I put Device Manager on my desktop the whole procedure took only a few seconds. Anyway, this problem eventually went away. I'll check my settings tonight (at work now) and will tell you what I did. I can't remember offhand.

Thanks, I would really appreciate any insight you could provide. Interestingly it works perfect at my job, but terrible at home despite all other devices working fine. But if I could change some settings on my home router to make this damn adapter happy, I could live with that.

Try changing the channel, maybe start with channel one and work your way up until you get the best results. My wifi has been perfect. Great range and stable. I get the same internet up and down as my wired desktop which is about 15% more than my ISP promises. And I get that throughput 15 feet from the router or 40 feet away through four walls.

    Good luck, Jim

Well when it's connected it works great, the problem is getting it to reconnect after sleeping. I am going to mess with the settings when I get back, I'm out on business until Friday. We'll see how the hotel Wi-Fi fares tonight.

You could setup a new task in Task Scheduler which disables and then enables the WiFi device when you wake the notebook:

    Download DevManView

    Trigger: 'On an event' - Log:System - Source :powerTroubleshooter - Event ID:1

    Action: devmanview.exe /disable_enable "Intel(R) Dual Band Wireless-AC 7260"

Make sure you tick the box to run with the highest privileges and untick start the task only if the PC is on AC power.

    That should do the trick.

Just disappointing to need workarounds and hacks like this to get basic functionality working. Thanks though, I'll go that route if wireless changes on my router don't work.

    In Device Manager
Properties--Advanced: Disabled u-APSD (this boosted speed, I dont know if it had an effect on the sleep issue)
Properties--Advanced: Disabled Sleep on WoWLAN Disconnect
Properties--Power Management: Allow computer to turn off this device and Allow this device to wake the computer are both CHECKED. Only allow magic packet to wake is NOT checked.

Let me know if any of this helps. I can do more digging. I spent a lot of time with router and adapter settings to try to get this better.

I ended up buying it from Power Buy in a shopping mall. They have this exact model in many shops around here. The other models online, like the shop I mentioned in my previous email.

Not sure about that shop I mentioned but before buying I was considering using them and I read very good reviews. Not sure if the ship internationally though.

Keyboard wise, like any other thai keyboards... quite busy!

Wrote yesterday with somone from cyberport about the availability of the ux303ln:
"Hallo, zum Asus UX 303 gibt es momentan keinen Liefertermin. Es ist nicht absehbar, wann dieses Reihe verfügbar sein wird. Einzig dieses Modell soll voraussichtlich ab 06.11.14 wieder verfügbar sein: Asus Zenbook UX303LN-R4142H Notebook i7-4510U SSD Full HD GF840M Windows 8.1
Sobald der Webshop wieder läuft, kannst du dir auch den Link anzeigen lassen
    Viele Grüße"

Quick translation: Only the UX303LN-R4142H is expected to be available at 06.11.14. No dates for the others.

Manually install the Intel Driver for it.. I have had no issues since then. Install the FULL package here:

    https://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?DwnldID=24168&lang=eng&ProdId=3714

download the e164 package.. it makes the wifi much better. Ironically my sister has a Vaio Pro and it had the same issue.. I installed that driver and it fixed her wifi also, however the Pro was much worse.

How convenient for them to only get the most expensive one ;-)
Whatever, I don't believe any dates coming from Cyberport...
