Thanks for your answer. I made sure to conclude with the same configuration as you, however the problem remains. My cpu grasps every change to go to turbo mode, and such chances everytime includes, well, scrolling. Even the sample reviewed by notebookcheck couldnt go into 3.1GHz, and mine does each and every time... Is there any way to disable turbo mode in Haswell CPUs? Throttlestop doesnt allow me to do so, the Turbo mode tick box is grayed out. Maybe if I succeed in doing so things will be better, the difference in power consumption is significant (2.8 consumes .953V while 3.1 consumes 1.005V)
PS. I just realised that after coming back from sleep, the balanced scheme idles in 2.0 GHz instead of 800MHz, what is the correct behaviour?

I never use sleep mode because of all the issues I see from people who do use it. My CPU seems to always idle at 0.77 GHz.
Good luck, Jim
Edit: What Power Plan are you using? I am on a modified Balanced. I changed a few things to suit my use profile.
Edit: I think you must have the i7? My i5 has a turbo of only 2.7 GHz. Maybe the i7 has an issue. -
Thanks, Jim -

Does changing the priority level in task manager do anything? I wonder if there are any programs to limit cpu usage for a process. Also I wonder if this is more of an intel problem than the touchpad drivers. Interesting to see what else might trigger this -
After scrolling down or up on google Chrome, hitting Ctrl+W or Alt+D would make Chrome crash (version 38 fixed the Ctrl+W but the Alt+D crash still happens randomly).
Basically even after finishing scrolling Asus Smart Gesture seems to still be working.
The fix for this issue is as other people mentioned to uninstall Asus Smart Gesture and install the touchpad drivers like the Elantech ones for the UX302 in order to keep 2 the finger scroll.
Unfortunately I couldn't find any drivers for the Focaltech touchpad, and there's no way to scroll after uninstalling Asus Smart Gesture so no way to test what I said... -
As a quick FYI - if anyone wants to load Linux on the Asus UX303, there is a stack of work happening here https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1372609 to have the touchpad work. (If you are happy installing a custom kernel).
Inbuilt drivers should come down the line at some point as well. -

I've done a clean setup and the only ASUS drivers I am running are ATKACPI, keyboard filter, Smart Gesture (touchpad), and Genesys card reader. Everything else is generic from respective vendors or Microsoft. Everything worked properly so far.

The official Intel drivers work perfectly here.

Hi! I'm new to this forum, but I've been following this thread about the UX303 for some time now.
Where I'm from (the Netherlands) the LN model isn't available and the only LA model with Full HD (the rest has 1600x900) costs around 1200 (about $ 1500), so you'll understand that I've been more than a little interested in the German models from just across the border where the LN range starts at 999.
However, the Germans use qwertz keyboards and in the Netherlands we usually use qwerty keyboards. I thought I might solve this by ordering a qwerty keyboard from this site and replace the keyboard: http://www.asusparts.eu/en/partfinder/Asus/Notebook/U Series/UX303LN#Keyboard
But then I noticed in a review of a German UX303LN that not just the letters/numbers/symbols on the keys of the qwertyz keyboard seem to be different, but also the shape of the keys. For example: where the qwerty keyboard has a big shift key on the left, the qwertz keyboard has two keys in that place. The qwertz on the other hand has a bigger Enter key. See the two attached images.
Does anybody have any experience with this/replacing Asus keyboards and/or any advice?

Hi I just got my ux303ln US version. There is no leather sleeve or the cables inside the box other than the charger. I thought its suppose to have USB to ethernet and a mini display to vga cables. Can somone plz confirm one way or another.

The keyboard is directly inserted in the cutouts of the aluminium surface. So due to the different shape of keys I can't imagine how to fit the other keyboard in a device like mine.

Can anyone share more thoughts on how to get 4k video in chrome (flash continues to lag) using a i5 Y2P? I've disabled pepflash and tried both HTML5 and Adobe Flash 15.0. Why is IE perfectly smooth?
UPDATE: in my testing, adding this to the chrome.exe commandline appears to make 4k video much smoother via FLASH (must force HTML5 disable)

Thanks for the info! Guess I'll have to get used to qwertz
.
One more question: if there's anyone around here who already owns an UX303LN-R4141H: in the review of this model on Asus Zenbook UX303LN-R4141H Subnotebook Review - NotebookCheck.net Reviews the case doesn't seem to be "smoky brown" but it seems to look more like the greyish UX32 cases. Am I mistaking or does this model have a different color? -
Gizmodo.de did a review (maybe it's more a first impression then a real review) of the german version of the UX303LN. Suprisingly the review says it has a matt non-touch QHD+ display, which I guess must be a mistake by just taking the data from a merged infobox on a price comparison page. The reviewer was impressed how silent the notebook is, not so happy he was with the sharp wrist rest. Btw,, the i7 with 12GB ram for 1200 is now listed on saturn.de

Hey,
I just got this laptop off amazon last week however, Im having a few weird problems.
When I first start the laptop it gets stuck on the Asus screen (before the windows screen) it'll sit there for 2-3 minutes before continuing. Other times itll start up in 5 seconds. Its completely random basically.
I tried installing utorrent however the installation keeps stuck. Years of using utorrent on many different computers I never saw that happen. Downloaded it a second time same deal. Ran it as admin still no luck. It just stops working.
Chrome wont load. Ill click the icon i can see it in task manager but it doesnt actually load up. Not a big deal it happens every now and again on my desktop ending the process in task manager and then relaunching usually fixes but with the case of this laptop that does not fix it. Had to uninstall and reinstall.
Anyway these sort issues makes me feel like it may be a hard drive issue. I believe these laptops use msata ssd's however I have a regular 2,5" ssd (samsung 840) as well. I think I can use that in there if it does turn out to be a hard drive issue. Can someone confirm this for me?
Second question is can I do a clean install on this laptop? Maybe the software not installing or loading can be solved with this. However, Im worried that the hotkeys (volume up down etc) will stop working. I used to have a sony vaio f series where after a clean install there was a certain order of installing drivers/software in order to make sure everything works properly. I was wondering if there was anything i need to watch out for with this laptop? Or can I just do a clean install then install drivers etc?
Thanks for the help. -
I decided to do a clean install (wiped the recovery partition too) following the advice given earlier on settings up a UEFI USB key with Windows 8.1. The laptop is infintely faster and not having the Focaltech driver + Asus Smart Gesture means I am finally getting 6 hour battery compared to 2-3 before.
Used latest drivers from INTEL (WHQL) and Nvidia GPU etc.
The bloatware from Asus, though not the worst, still weighs down the machine. I'm glad I did this after spending a week with the laptop.
Finally I believe the SSD is 2.5".. the mSATA (half length) is only for those machines with hybrid HDDs. These machines have a small 16GB SSD for caching purposes. My model has a 2.5" Sandisk x110 128GB standard.voinea likes this. -
Did you face any similar problems like getting stuck on the Asus bios screen?
So from what I understand I can go ahead and just format install drivers and ill be good to go. Im guessing youre not facing any problems with your hotkeys? -
-
-
Correct. No gestures. Really a bummer but the battery life gains are arguably worth it. I'm currently only using the touch screen to scroll

anyone have received the color issue fix?

The biggest problem with the ux303ln and ubuntu 14.04 for me is a slow and instable wifi-connection.
I tried the latest drivers for the AC 7260 by intel, but its still problematic. -
Hi,i ask few weeks before if ux303la can be upgraded and someone says no,that statement prevent me to Not to buy it,but i just found this page which clearly says and shows that LA model can be upgraded???
http://www.laptopultra.com/guide/asus-ux303la-disassembly/ -
Good luck, Jim -
Yes im planning to insert msata ssd instead standard 2.5 inch ssd i think its smarter way to have 2 storage types,i mean the model which im plan to buy comes with 500gb hdd
