If you are careful with it then it should be fine :) a high quality matte coating is basically what none glare screens use by the way so if you get it right you can just a coating to get the same result pretty much.

I've used screen protectors but I want 1080p for power savings and eliminate the scaling issues. Problem is that I need the bezel to go with the non-touch LCD, otherwise the touch screen overlay is still glossy.

But holy hell. Just played a round of BF4 at 720p medium settings, locked at 50FPS and it played smooth as butter. I even overclocked the GPU to 1259MHz (boost) and vRAM to 2200MHz. Peak CPU temps were 92C and GPU at 85C, but there was no throttling. I also repasted with IC Diamond. Before that I was throttling CPU and GPU, now it's near limit but still working great. I'm quite impressed at this mini marvel.

hi guys, i know that it is possible for us to upgrade our storage, but, may i know what is the exact ssd model we should get? i own a core i5 128gb ssd configuration. i'm considering upgrading my storage to 256 or to 512gb. what kind of ssd should i get? also, what would be the best cloning process so i can transfer everything (including os/recovery) to the new storage? thanks!

btw, just got my laptop from the service center (hinge problem). so far, they were able to replace it and is absolutely perfect.

Every SSD you want as long it is an sata 2.5 inch SSD. (For replacement)

Of you don't want to replace it and use the msata slot then you need a half sized msata SSD.

Personally I would just copy files manually and do a clean install for performance. If you don't want this I am sure that there are enough guides which explains to do this properly.

Hi. Thank you for your response. Does this mean that I can get a half size msata SSD and use it as a slave drive? because if that would be the case.. i think it is more ideal so i can preserve the stock OS.

Isn't it that the msata slot is only used as a cache? sorry for my ignorance but, how would i define which is the master and slave for both of the ssd i have in case i get one?

    thanks for the advice!

Yes. You could use a half sized msata SSD as "slave". You can set it as master of slave in the BIOS. Though it would not really matter as your system boots from the master if it has working boot partition. So if you add a 2nd nothing will change and will work instantly.

What core and memory clock do you have on the GPU?

Do you mean with vram your RAM?

I use NvidiaInspector to overclock, it can overclock the GPU core up to maximum of +135MHz over stock and vRAM as much as you can, which is how I got the 1259MHz core and 2200MHz vRAM. The vRAM is dedicated to the 840m. It does not use system RAM.

Runs stable here on 1259 core and 2180 memory.

Don't use MSI afterburner, could not get a stable clock with this software.
    Use nvidia inspector instead.

I like my Samsung thin and light but this ASUS takes the cake. Not much heavier or thicker, has 3 USB 3.0 instead of 2, CPU is noticeably faster, has a 2.5" drive bay, one expandable RAM slot, but comes with 12GB stock, same 3200x1800 LCD touchscreen, and costs the same. Only thing I'd like different is dark blue color like the Samsung and actually prefer a 1080p non touch LCD.

Hey guys, are there any extra large batteries being sold for UX303? If yes, where can I find them? I like the 5 hour battey life (Wifi, browsing, document editing and occasional Youtube), but more often than not I wish it could have been even longer.

Nope as it has an inside battery.

I will make a guide next week on how to under volt the CPU, and with some other tricks for longer battery.

I inspected my hinges today and dont know if i should worry or not. As you can see on the pictures, there is a small gap between the right hinge and the screen. is it the first sign or everyone has that?
P.S. left hinge doesn't have this small gap.

But will undervolting really help with battery life with these CPU's? I don't know that it will, the biggest power drain is the 4k LCD which is difficult to do much about except running minimum brightness. Running a low usage browsing scenario I doubt will improve battery life much. Undervolting will help with lowering temps and consuming power at load. But Intel XTU is a good app to adjust voltage.

The 4k screen is most drain, but in my opinion even if I improve it for 10 minutes it is fine for me.

Ugh. Today I went to go remove the screen and cracked the touchscreen digitizer glass. That glass is super sensitive. Well, I did order and receive my 1080p matte LCD, but also had to order the LCD bezel and cable, because it seems the 3k LCD is 40 pin LVDS and 1080p is 30 pin LVDS. Asusparts.com (out of Europe) had parts in stock, now just have to wait a week (hopefully no more) and I can be back in business with my 1080p matte LCD.

If this works, all in all it will cost less than $200 to swap to the 1080p non-touch. Seems odd to pay more for a 1080p non-touch, but IMHO will be worth it in the long run.

The only way to be sure would be to open the unit and inspect the metal of the hinge.

Do you mean with undervolting, we could only eke out around 10 extra minutes of battery life?

I'm not sure how much improvement does undervolting bring to the battery life. I have done my research, and one youtube video even claimed that the improvement is only around 2%, which is barely noticeable.

Never really checked. That 10 was an example. And if you say 2%: 5*60min=300*0.02=6minutes. Those 6 min are welcome for me.

I don't really care it it is less. It has battery impact, even though it is slight. Every battery life improvement without decreasing performance is welcome for me.

    Theoretically it saves battery.

From the other side, undrrvolt is less heat.
    Heat decrease battery life.

The amount of heat the battery sees from the system temperature especially with this little guy is irrelevant. The battery won't see any heat from the CPU, and even 1C difference won't even make a measureable difference. High heat would be if you left your laptop in the rear window of your car on a hot sunny day. That would decrease battery life, not a CPU running 1-2C cooler.

I have no clue what you mean by "small gap between right hinge and screen". Both sides have a small gap. Without a small gap, the hinge would rub on the base. Could you add a pointer or arrow to show what you mean by small gap?

    Thanks, Jim

I just got a brand-new unit today. Mine does not have a gap at all. I think your hinge may split from the screen eventually like some others have mentioned. Maybe send it to Asus for hinge replacement?

That gap has nothing to do with the hinge. That is just a plastic trim cover.

From all the photos of broken hinges I saw, the hinge cover is what seems to comes off..few of them on Amazon
Edit: mines a newer Broadwell UX303LN so the might have done some changes to the hinge and the cover to address the hinge problem.

So the Toshiba BIOS worked on the Asus? Seems a bit risky to me. Not sure I'm willing to brick my laptop (although it is current a brick after cracking my screen). But "Thermal Configuration" sounds tempting, If I can prevent throttle.

    Hey,
I have recently bought UX303LN (config R4338 - HDD, i7, 4GB RAM) without preinstalled Windows 8.1 ( I had my own copy before).
When I was preparing HDD for system I have formated hard drive, and now the mini msata drive (16GB) is not showing anymore. How I could bring it back ?

I have also problem with 1 missing driver:
    VEN_8086&DEV_1603&SUBSYS_183D1043&REV_09\3&11583659&1&20
I can't find drivers for this device.
Thanks in advance for helping me.

This is not really related to this laptop.

Make sure your hard disk is formatted into MBT or GPT. And had a partition or volume. Where can't you find your disk? Windows or in BIOS? Make sure your partition is active if you have multiples.

Asus don't use the intel software for acceleration, they use their own software so that drive was likely not formatted normally. Be aware the drive is not really meant for normal usage.

I'm very embittered after received the pc UX303LN back from Asus Italy support, the problem with the microphone persists and now I found new defects.

In the report, they replace a lot of pieces also those that were worked perfectly for me:
    - new ssd for system hang up ssd error: that's ok I had black screen in the boot sometimes
    - cable LVDS for audio error and no power error: ok for audio but I never had no power error
    - new camera module for camera error: I never had camera problem
    - new bezel plate assy for gap anomaly: I never found assembly defects
    - new arry mic cable for audio error
    - wilkins peak2 802.11ac+bt/m.2: for wireless lan error: I never had these problem
    - new lcd panel for abnormal lines on display: the display was absolutely perfect

    Now:
    * the microphone still stop registering while speakers playing
    * the aluminum body is scratched in 3 zones on the lid
    * below the webcam there is a piece of cable that protrudes from the frame upon the screen
    * I see halos white and black along the bottom side of the screen with dark images (film view)
    * I lost 17 days of kasko warranty without the pc, and now is worst than before

I paid a lot of money and now I don't know what to do.
I'm very unhappy for have bought this Asus.

Eclipse_lite, I've been going through the forum and you seem to be the guy everyone is turning to. What files do I need to attempt the fix on the ux303ln QHD yellow issue. I downloaded and did one of the bins I found, and it didn't do anything. Can you summarize what all fixes you have posted and how to install them in one place?

Download files. Look what extension the files are. Google on how to use and install it.

If you can't do this it is maybe better to stay away from tweaking and fixes.

I can handle the install. I downloaded the program and bin file and ran it was told it was a success and didnt see a difference so I was trying to make sure I have the right file.

    anxinteleepromupdate-edp-2.3.exe program file name
    yw_setting .bin bin file name

Is there another patch or bin file that I should be trying?

Make sure you run exe as administrator and turn laptop fully off.
This fix it for 50% in my opinion.

If you want to fix the other 40%, than you should download the ICC profiles someone posted in this topic. Before you ask "how" to do this, please use search function of the forum to find the files, and Google on how to use and install them.

PS: the ICC profile with the name ASUS UX303LN 8086 834C works best for me.
