That's how it started for me, 3 months later the hinge broke.
I really wonder if this default is affecting all ux303 (and not specifically some of them produced early on). I'm receiving mine today from the repair center, we'll see how long it will last this time...

After my expirience, I will never suggest other Asus item to anyone. One of the brands with the worst service client in the world, and without any look to the customer satisfaction at all. Shame! Shame! Shame!

The shop I bought mine from has opened up 4 of these for me up till now.
The first one started that hinge popping 2 days after I got it. It would pop every single time I opened it.
The second one occasionally popped. This was right out of the box.
The third was perfect out of the box but after 1 week it started to occasionally pop too.
The forth popped just like my first one did, but this time straight out of the box.

I think this problem affects pretty much all units. The repeated stress cycles subjected to the hinge overtime will cause failure on most units in my opinion. I have had a look at the what the assembly is like, and it appears that cheap thin plastic is holding it together which will eventually crack.
I really hope on the new UX303LB they revise the hinge.

Which may be reason for the delay in release. Yeah I've seen the hinge when I disassembled mine and it's not real robust. The attachment to the chassis is inboard to the part that attaches to the lid so it will see shear stresses when really both sections of the hinge should be in line with each other to minimize the stress. Plus the amount of metal used is small, and the plastic screw bosses have no structure to them. This needs to be fixed.

Did anyone succeeded with adding caching SSD to UX303LN initially shipped with HDD? I got half size mSATA card and successfully insert it into notebook. I can see it as separate drive, but can't add it as cached device to intel rapid storage. Possible reason is an absent of RAID choice for SATA type in BIOS.
But AFAIK there are several models with buildin HDD+SDD configuration, so I think it is possible to setup caching mode. But I can't understand how. Please help.

Never seen it in real life, but all UX303LN reviews mention hdd+ssd as possible configuration.

But I think that it's a very strange decision to made ready-to-use half-size mSATA slot and have no ability to use it for caching SSD.

    Hello guys.
Today I bought my ux303ln with i5-5200u, 8gB ram and 480gb ssd without OS so i installed win8.1 64 bit and have problems with WiFi drivers - when I am installing drivers from asus.com i have a BSOD with note SYSTEM_THREAD_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED :(
I found out that this might be caused by old nVidia driver so i made an update, than uninstall but nothing helped. Any solutions?

It's normal ux303ln without touchscreen. I think the ssd drive was modified by our local Polish retail store. It's Sandisk Ultra II 480ssd ;)

    Hey,

consider re-installing from scratch - save you heaps of time trying to troubleshoot the issue

I had similar issue when I replaced the SSD. Much of the issues are due to windows update automatic drivers install - this can happen when you install your wifi drivers first - so the trick here is to install wifi drivers last or you can disable windows automatic install:
    http://superuser.com/questions/665158/can-i-prevent-a-driver-from-being-installed-with-windows-8-1

I compiled a driver pack for broadwell ux303ln you can use it offline setup or for reference. Installing the drivers in the order as specified will ensure a glitch free setup process.

Yeah its very unfortunate because apart from this problem, in my opinion there is no other alternative machine if looking for something similar. By the way I just checked now and it looks like Germany is the first to get this UX303LB (it's already in stock). Fingers crossed they have fixed the hinge.

Asus do tend to disable features no used in shipping models. Are you sure you are not talking about the hyrbid drive offerings that have NAND built into the 2.5" drive?

I found that UX303LN still have licensed ExpressCache software here: C:\eSupport\eDriver\Software\Others\other\ExpressCache\Win7_64_Win8_64_Win81_64_1.3.110.0\ . ExpressCache can be used for using SSD as HDD cache.

Just note stupid issue: EC installs into C:\Program Files\Condusiv Technologies\ExpressCache\ but still look for it's license in C:\Program Files\Diskeeper Corporation\ExpressCache\EC.lmf. So don't forget to create legacy path and copy file EC.lmf here.

    Hey there, I am a new user of zenbook UX303LN asia spec : i7 5500U, 8GB ram, 1TB + 24GB SSD, 1080p, nvidia G840M + intel HD 5500, win 8.1 SL

i have an issue to my Photoshop CC. sometimes when i open the program, the intel HD display driver stopped responding, and I think this is the driver issue.
can anyone help me with the driver / give me the update driver for the laptop?

Intel HD driver version 10.18.10.4013 WHQL
nvidia driver version 9.18.13.3337 WHQL (forceWare 333.37)

Go to NVIDIA site, search for 800M series driver, download and install. Universal driver directly from vendor installs and works fine here (so long as you stick with WHQL rather than beta versions). And it tracks updates. Also, updates to Intel HD driver should automatically come with Windows 8.1 updates (there was one recently in fact). Photoshop CC works perfectly fine on the 350.12 version of NVIDIA driver and latest Intel HD WDDM driver update from Microsoft.

    Hello everybody,

I bought a Zenbook UX303L (i7, 8GB Ram, 256 SSD, QHD touchscreen display) in august last summer when it got released and this was my first windows laptop in a very long time as I had used Macs for the past 8 years.
My only complaints about the Zenbook are the noise and battery life. I checked this thread back then, but because I didn't use it much I didn't really bother to ask about it.
The big problem is that the Zenbook is dead quiet when I boot it up, but at some point the fans will kick in (sometimes even when I am not using the computer) and at this point the battery life completely melts.
And the fans (maybe it is the GPU or motherboard I don't know) have quite a high pitch noise (almost like coil noise) which can be annoying in a very silent room. (it is not very loud but definitely audible)

At the time, I remembered some tips I read, so I set my resolution to 1080p instead of QHD and have disabled turbo throttling (apparently scrolling on this laptop makes it autothrottle, has this been fixed?) in battery mode, this helped my battery life but didn't solve my fans kicking in for no reason.
Generally I get about 3h45 of youtube video playing.
    2h30 of twitch streaming.
    Around 7h of browsing//office.

I don't know how much I should trust the estimated remaining time but it is really annoying to see it drop to like 1h43 at 88% right now when the only thing opened are 2 chrome tabs and 2 minutes later it will show 6h remaining.

Anyways, if it is a hardware problem I can still return it to Asus I guess before August.
I will probably have to keep it another year but I am not very happy about my purchase, but if there is a way to fix these battery//noise problems this laptop will feel so much better.

Thanks a lot for your help!
    Alexis

    Thanks for the help guys!
@TheUntouchable So I disabled the maintenance while idle, hopefully it will fix my problem of fans going on when the pc is not doing anything!
I wouldn't say they are that noisy, but the noise is quite high pitch (again I live in a dead quiet room) but I can live with that as long as they don't turn on while just using office or chrome...

    @Meaker
I didn't notice anything too weird, except for the part where the CPU TurboThrottles when scrolling.
Can I turn off the GPU while in battery mode? That could be useful to save up some battery.

    Thanks again!

ps : Is it normal for the fans to kick in while the only task in watching a 1080p youtube video on Chrome? It doesn't seem that intensive task to me.

Setting your resolution won't help because it's still driving and lighting all the pixels on the screen. Only what will help is if you get an actual 1080p screen. 7h of browsing/office is about right. Maybe make sure your video streaming and browser is using the intel GPU instead of the Nvidia.

Also, set your laptop up to not sleep or hibernate or power off automatically by creating a new power profile based on the "power saver" profile, and let it idle overnight until it shuts down automatically (set this to like 3% battery life left). Then when you recharge you should get a good indicator of battery life left. I recommend using something like BatteryBar Pro (Pro version is worth the cost) or BatteryCare for better battery information.

    Hello guys,

I recently purchased Asus zenbook UX303LN, near the end of January 2015 from NCIX, and I have been having issues with the battery. I was suspicious as to why my battery doesn't last long (usually lasts 1-1:30hrs on balanced power plan, ridiculous!). I tried many different methods to increasing the battery life other than not removing the smart gesture but no luck. So I installed BatteryBar to see what's up and to my shock the battery wear was @ 59.4%. Also tried BatteryCare and It gave 59.4% battery wear as well. I'll try to contact Asus Service tomorrow and see what they say.

    [IMG][/IMG] [IMG] [IMG] [IMG][/IMG]

If I get no helpful response, what do you guys recommend? Factory reset, buying a new battery...?

Thank you in advance for your responses

Wow, that is extreme. Something with that much wear likely isn't a calibration issue, but can't hurt to create a unique power profile based off power saver, set it so it never sleeps or hibernates or powers off, set shut down % to 1%, and let it idle overnight and let it shut down on its own. Charge it up fully before turning it on, then see where the battery wear level is at then. Otherwise I'd see about getting it replaced under warranty, if it is, or if you're so inclined, just replace it yourself, it's not that difficult.

For a highly worn battery that can of course just kill it off.

Batteries normally have a 6 month warranty, you can try talking to your reseller about the abnormal wear on it.

this is freakin'annoying... installing the beta driver doesn't help... but uninstalling intel graphics drivers resolve this issue. However, the 840m becomes the primary graphics card - it's always on and reduce battery life.

Does anyone know the official dimensions of the power port? Should have exterior and interior diameters. I am trying to use an Anker 19v external battery but am not getting a good fit.

Also, are we still SOL on the gestures engaging turbo mode issue?

    Hello :)

I have a Asus Zenbook UX303L which is probably a problem with the video card. The Witcher 3 at the low is around 35 fps mode when the suddenly jumps to 5 . Also flying clock from 1259 on, eg 135 Mhz or higher, eg 500 to 1,000 mhz

Here scenn with FurMark where the temperature .So much higher temperature is not a problem, just like the TPD on furmarku which is approximately 50% higher ....
What can be the reason of capturing clocks in wiedzmin 3?

Ugh, I had this laptop and returned it yesterday. Cannot deal with the colour issue. I called ASUS and they said a fix will be made by December. I cannot wait that long...

Does anyone body manufacture good light laptops with FHD screens anymore?!

You can order the ASUS ux303LN or LB with FHD screen from Europe. For example on www.amazon.de

I am willing to do that, but no one at Amazon.de customer support speaks English so if I order an expensive laptop from there and it smashes during shipping or gets lost I am stuck no?

You might want to try a different driver set.

    Hi everyone!

Question: I'm trying to connect my UX303LN to an external 4K monitor, using the Mini-Displayport. However, te maximum resolution it lets me choose is 2560x1440 .

Is this a limitation of this model?
