What ram did you have in it? It will need low voltage 1.35v sticks.

    it's 1.35v stick - Crucial 8GB DDR3 1600 sodimm 1.35v - CT102464BF160B.C16FER

I revert back to the original stick it came with Samsung 4GB 1.35v 1Rx8 PC3L-12800S-11-13-B4 M471B5173BD0-YK0

Then, the boot up BSOD went away

I would trust Samsung magician yes. Firmwares are released to fix issues & improve performance. So definitely do it!

Can you share with everyone on the RAM that you had used which was incompatible? And the new one that's compatible?

    I have incompatible issues with Crucial 8GB DDR3 1600 sodimm 1.35v - CT102464BF160B.C16FER

Would anyone care to share which 8GB DDR3L stick that they have no issues with?

You mentioned the RAM passing MemTest86+ testing. Unfortunately this doesn't mean much. We've ran into many instances where MemTest86+ reported no issues, only for us to replace the RAM anyways and see the BSODs disappear. MemTest86 is a fine stress testing tool, but it doesn't always pick up faulty memory.

Either the system really doesn't like that particular RAM module, or you had faulty memory after all.

I have the same Ram stick and I had problems with it, with awaking after sleep mode.

Crucial says the memory is compatible with UX303 but looks like it is picky.
Have you updated the BIOS to the latest version? Perhaps you can try it again.
Also, if you got a pair, then try just a single module individually, then finally, both of them.

If problem persists, then change them out to something else.
Because these Taiwanese brands are most likely compatible with Kingston, ADATA, and Samsung, so perhaps try sticking to Kingston and see how they go.

it's already on ver206 the latest version out there. there's only one sodimm slot that accommodate up to 8GB module with 4GB soldered to the mainboard.

Does anyone experience the problem of having their UX303LN CPU always running at 2.4-2/5 GHz? It's just ridiculous. Even playing music (either offline or online) boosts the CPU speed to 2.5 GHz, as with watching videos, and even two-finger tapping to double click.

I know that there's a "fix" for the ASUS Smart Gesture boosting CPU speed problem, but I tried it and it didn't work.

Anyone knows how to solve the problem?

What power profile setting are you on? High performance will always keep the CPU clocked up.

Okay, so in this case then just swap to a different brand but don't stick to the same model.

I am on Balanced settings, and I have double-checked everything: minimum processor state (in advanced power settings) set to 5%, maximum 100%.

When I don't touch my laptop and no music is playing, the CPU speed will drop to 1.5GHz after around a minute or so. But it goes back to 2.4-2.5 as soon as I open a new webpage (regardless of browser), type on Microsoft Word (without using the trackpad) etc.

I have the exact same issue. Its been like that ever since I bought this laptop around Christmas last year... but I find that the CPU clocking up isnt really a problem... fans are keeping quiet, battery life still good enough.
Now if there was a fix, of course I would like that, but its not bothering me that much at the moment

Hey guys, was going to buy one of these but now I'm not sure with the hinge problem.

    Does it happen to everyone?
    What about the ux305?

    Thanks

What do you mean by "I'm extremely careful with it" ? Is it the way you're opening it
Are you feeling the hinges getting a little bit looser or are you hearing a cracking sounds?
I was also extremely careful with my laptop; opening and closing the lid less than once a day on average with extreme care, always being careful where I was putting the laptop or while carrying it, but it still broke after 9 months.

I wonder if load levels impact it due to where it vents if the plastic is being heated/cooled rapidly that could impact longevity.

I had similar problem when I upgraded from Windows 8.1 to Windows 10.
I know that CPU will always run at maximum frequency (in idle) when "Power plan" option was set to "High performance", but it happened even on "Balanced" and "Power save" option even if "Minumum CPU" was manually set to default 5% and "Maximum CPU" was set to 100%.
What helped me was clicking "Restore default option of power plan" button (sorry, I'm not sure how it's in English version of Windows) for "Balanced" and "Power save" power plans. After that at first sight settings of "Balanced" and "Power save" power plans didn't changed, but under the hood it repaired problem, so now in "Balanced" mode CPU is running in accord to real usage :) (idle at lowest possible frequency and under heavy load maximum frequency)

Yep thats what I meant: very careful when opening/closing. I don't feel the hinges getting looser (yet) nor cracking sounds... I sure hope that thing doesn't break

"careful" means that open the lid from the middle, not from aside and It has nothing to do with how you carry the laptop.

Hi to all. About the cpu problem with windows 10 is a known bug software and MS will try fix it.
In the meanwhile I have always an unknown peripheral alert error and i can't fix it.
I haven't install intel raid storage because on the Asus website the rar file have not a properly installer but only a lot of files. Any suggestion?
    I need to install it??
Plus sometimes the ultrabook don't want turn off and, the power button and the power led, are always active

    Hi everyone,

I just registered here as I bought a UX303LA (with a Intel 5500 graphic chip, not the Nvidia) but I got very interested in the hinge issues which appear to be a real problem. It's quite bad that Asus doesn't seem to acknowledge the issues and make public statement on a fix and/or warranty extension to cover this problem as it is quite clearly a design flaw.

Thanks to HTWingNut and iaTa (and others) for bringing pictures and thoughts about the failure mode. The design of the hinge combined with cheap screen frame material, allowing high torsion strength, is clearly the root cause. Metal inserts for injected molded parts are not good for taking stress caused by repeated movement. Also, due to its position close to ventilation outlets, heat cycles can cause premature ageing of the material, causing it to crack much more easily. This is maybe why the issue only occurs after some 5 months or so.

Question is, has Asus fixed or improved mechanical resistance of these parts in the late revisions of the UX303 model ? I will maybe open my unit when I get it to see if any change was made. If so I'll let everyone know.

I'm thinking of a way to increase resistance to torsion of the plastic screen frame (maybe filling the gaps between the renforcement bracings with polymer glu, or some kind of hard material).

hey, I tried flashing the fix on my girlfriends ux303ln, but she had screen turn off enabled after 2 minutes and it turned off during the flash. it caused a grey blinking screen and after rebooting i just get a black screen. The keyboard turns on tho. I tried resetting bios by removing 2 battery cables and cmos battery for some time and i pressed the power button for a few minutes too. plugged everything back and no change. What's the next step here? Did I brick this for good or did I just fail resetting bios. Im taking it to asus service tomorrow, but would like to know some kind of prognosis. the laptop is 2 days old (bought used and receipt gone) and nobody here is quite happy I ****ed up. How expensive is a corrupt bios fix?

E: searched the thread and found out i could use hdmi to get to windows which i did and i used it to try and reflash newest bios through windows. i managed to do that but when it had to boot I got the blinking screen again and hdmi didnt work anymore. Guess I made it worse...

There is that, also there are bios recovery services that should not cost huge amounts (desolder bios chip and reprogram it manually).

So not the most expensive mistake to make, just a little time intensive.

got it fixed at a local service shop. They said it was a real headache to fix and took them all day, but they charged only for 2 hours so I got away with a 52 euro receipt. Lucky this time :p

Only a really small difference I guess, I think I got it better with some splendid tweaking and an icc profile from here, but Id like the newest info on calibration to get it better. Current icc makes it kinda reddish, so I upped the color temp to blue spectrum a bit. Is there cookiecutter setting around?

Anyone have a more permanent fix to the hinge problem? It looks like when I took it in the first time, they moved the center bit right below the ASUS logo on the screen to the side that was broken.. Gonna take it in again and ask what they did.

They did the same to me, after my hinge broke they replaced it with a new screen and placed it in an asymmetrical fashion (slightly more to the right).

    Hi,

I am still looking for a solution of the yellow color problem. The YW_setting.bin flash could not proceed with my computer (it starts, says "Chip id: 00" and does not continue). Neither the color profile which has been uploaded here helped.

Would love anybody who'd give me a hint!

I've been looking for alternatives of the ux303ln because of this stupid hinges design, and didn't find many options.
But finally another light, thin, powerful laptop with discrete GPU and a good battery life is coming on the market; Microsoft Surface Book.
I would definitely turn to this option if I had to deal with broken hinges again, I'm sick of Asus playing the ostrich policy with its customers.

Pros : Supposedly better hinges (weird design, we will see when it comes out), better battery life, better GPU and CPU, better screen, can be turned into a tablet (not very interesting but at least it's an option), and maybe better customer service (I would see Microsoft trying to emulate Apple in this respect)

Cons : Twice the price of the ux303 (for merely better specs), there is a gap between screen and keyboard once the laptop is closed because of the hinges design
