I'm trying to sign up my laptop for the coverage but I keep getting this error everytime I click submit:

String or binary data would be truncated. The statement has been terminated.

What's the problem here? It happens with Internet Explorer, Firefox and Chrome. Do I need to register my laptop on the website in order for me to take advantage of it? It's only been 10 months since I bought it so I should still be under the coverage, right?

You're TOAST! Sorry to say those words, but the warranty is only available to those who REGISTER in the 1st 30 DAYS of ownership! YOu're outta luck, sorry to say, must be done in the 1st 30 days you own the notebook.

That's a big No Can DO! The warranty for ADW is only a USA deal, Canada too, as I recall, but NOT overseas just because you bought it in the USA...that just will NOT FLY!

The ADW Warranty must be to a USA or Canadian laptop where the owner lives/resides in the USA, PERIOD! End of discussion...ONLY for USA and Canadian laptops whose owners live in those nations.

I would contact Costco Concierge Service right away. I just checked and ALL ASUS laptops on their site state they come with a 2 yr Global warranty and 1 yr Accidental coverage. PLUS, per Costco's electronic policy, any laptop (regardless of manufacturer) you buy at Costco comes with a manufacturers 2nd yr warranty (Costco pays for it; this was the case with a Toshiba laptop I bought). I think ASUS may be trying to pull a fast one on you.

If it is the case that Costco does not qualify and they have the wrong info on their site, then Costco will allow you to return the product for a full refund.

I am a Costco member and have bought laptops and major electronic purchases from them in the past; Thus I have previous experience with some of these issues.

Good luck and keep us updated.

*EDIT* In fact Costco still sells the N71JQ and it states it comes with a 2 yr warranty, 1 yr accidental, and 30 days pixel guarantee. Contact Costco!

    *2ND EDIT*
I just went to ASUS ADW website. It states if you bought the laptop at a Costco warehouse (physically went into a warehouse as opposed to buying it online at Costco.com), then they won't cover it. WOW, that is stupid. I mean what's the difference.

Thanks for your reply, Alexmuw. I actually did end up returning the Asus laptop, for other reasons. But it looks like Asus has made changes to their ADW website to clarify their policy (probably as a result of my complaint to them).

@AsILayDaing refurbs typically have 90 day warranties. It should say on the sticker on the bottom something like WARRANTY: 3M.

Is there an asus site where you type your s/n and shows you how many days your warranty has like apple? :p

The ADP says that scratches and dents are not covered.

I just happened to have a nick on my LCD, so I'm not covered? I think it's dumb because this means that I can just drop a screwdriver on my LCD and claim the warranty?

This is a long thread; so, I haven't read it all, but ASUS does NOT love all of their customers.

I recently purchased an ASUS NX90JQ and went to activate the warranty only to find out that it doesn't apply to me since I bought it from Microsoft Store.

Microsoft Store wasn't the only seller that the warranty doesn't apply. Cosco, Buy.com, and a few others were excluded.

I had read about this warranty and thought that this was a great deal, but I didn't know about any exclusions regarding sellers.

I am sure that it is related to money, but an ASUS computer is an ASUS computer and SHOULD be covered.

How did you try to activate it? Did you get an error message when you tried to register on the ADP registration site?

There is a box on the Activation page that says Microsoft Store and others are not included in the warranty.

No, you don't get an error message, but you have to send in your invoice and there email of activations. When they see where I bought it, the computer will not be covered.

Wow, that's messed up. And those sites say it comes with the ADH warranty anyways. I'm interested in what companies and sellers are on that list.

Source: ASUS ADP at a Glance

Try it on an external monitor.

Save any data you need to keep to an external drive or a network shared folder.

Clear any personal data after backing up that you don't want ASUS to see.

    Hi people,

I'm planning on buying the asus u46sv from USA and bring it back to the UK. For example if i were to buy it from here GentechPC with the Asus 2 Year Limited Global Warranty, how would i claim the warranty if the laptop broke and who would i take it to here in the UK.

hmm working on a laptop for a co-worker of my wife. Her kid dropped it and the hard drive is damaged. Was going to just order a replacement but I wonder if she registered hers in time... Or if she didn't if they require proof of purchase to register...
