Any ASUS users succesful to get their hardware working in RC1? I know in an older build, the bluetooth didn't work with the v6j.

here's an earlier thread
btw rc1 is not out yet, its pre rc1. although the iso says rc1, its actually not. -
no...RC1 was released today

-
Bump......
... -
update to Vista take lot of money, and it just only look good, so far I only see it look good and alot of bug and new hardware require.
-
Well I accidentaly started a new thread regarding this as I missed this one. but here is what I said
I'm using a A8Jm btw.
-
where can i actually acquire RC1, even though its probleming like Beta 2
-
Well Microsoft have closed the doors after releasing it to 100,000 people but you can get it on the torrent sites. I got mine from torrentspy. Just make sure you get the 5600 build. It's about 2.5GB for the x86 one.
Your Beta cd keys will work too. Otherwise you can just skip putting one in and try it out for 14 days or something before you have to put a proper key in and activate. -
MS will release it to the public in the coming 2 weeks.
-
-
Is what legal? torrenting the file? Its a public release. You have to have requested a CD key from MS to be able to use it. They say that your beta keys will work on this RC1 version. You have to activate your install to continue using it.

Runs great on my V6j. Only probelm is, my audio works 50% of the time. I have the volume all the way up, and I get no sound sometimes. Vista detects the card as a High Definition Audio Device.
Anyone else having this issue?? -

Ran great on the z96j. Audio worked fine too. the only driver i couldnt get was the atk driver for vista. Leave that up to asus i guess. Other then that it worked flawlessly. Ooh ye 3d marks didnt work either for some reason.

Works great on S96j. The new ATI RC1 drivers are also better than previous ones. Gaming is now much better.
RC1 is a huge step up from Beta 2, better performance across the board. When I first installed I only had 1gb of ram. It worked much better when I upgraded to 2gb. Vista really likes more ram. I have all my apps now in the Vista partition and pretty much I'm only using Vista. -

flip where did you get your product key? how did you get atk drivers to work? Where did you get your rc1?
-
Noone has got it working on a A8Jm yet? Anyone else having the DVD won't boot problem?
-
i'm interested in the boot problem with vista as this might be a recurring issue even when the final version is released. so much for being windows vista capable.
when does the boot problem happen exactly? -
Anyone know where I might find some drivers form my W7J? I am especially interested in drivers for the 7400go.
-
Well when you boot from the DVD you get the prompt to press any key to boot from CD/DVD, then the screen goes black and the system restarts.
I also tried installing from within my XP install. It went fine until it tried to reboot, then it started to cycle the POST process. The boot loader was not loading. I had to hit the recovery console and use fixboot and fixmbr. The DVD I have boots fine on two other desktop PCs. -
i spent all Sunday trying to find a workaround to no avail. there probably is a solution to this but i have not found one yet...
-
edit: ah i see...hm seems the issue is more serious than i thought

ATK drivers have worked since beta 2. I remembered that I did something to make them work but can't remember what it was. What is the issue? If you tell me I should be able to remember what I did. -
The people who are having probs installing Vista -- which laptops do you have? Because I heard on a different forum that their problem was resolved by updating the BiOS (in the a8jm). I don't know how true this is considering I haven't tried Vista.
-
I have an A8Jm. I haven't put the 210 BIOS on yet, I'm running 209 which came with my notebook and oddly I cannot see on the Asus site. I'll try 210 tonight.
-
Aha! I decided to put BIOS 210 on before work and the DVD now boots. Got into the installer just fine.
Stick that on the top of the thread. A8Jm owners need to upgrade to BIOS 210 for Vista RC1. You can update in Windows with the WinFlash utility.
I know what I'm doing tonight -
Phew. Good to know.
I won't try RC1 as I'm waiting for the final release. But it's good to know it'll work when I decide to upgrade. -
good to hear
i'm on 208 still
can you tell me if it is better to flash it in windows or dos? -
I figured the windows one is better because if it for some reason fails, you can still hit the forums and redownload the file before you restart. Once it flashes it checks to make sure it went on ok.
I'll be dual booting the release candidates then probably move completely over once RTM comes out. -
cool so everything works so far in terms of asus hardware/software?
also is the fan louder in terms of spinning faster in 210? -
I believe the louder fan started in 208. I don't really notice the fan noise to be honest.
-
-
yeah the last bios update the W3j got was in april
-
Well I did my RC1 install last night, couldn't get the sound working though. Not even sure what audio chip is in the A8Jm. The Asus site says Intel High Definition Compatible Audio Chip. Where do I get drivers for that? I can't really see audio drivers on the Asus website, only this UAA thing that won't install anyway. -
Cyaegha
try this
Version kb888111 2006/03/22 update
OS WinXP
Description UAA bus driver and Audio driver
Microsoft Universal Audio Architecture bus driver for Windows XP
File Size 51.27 (MBytes)

Yup I got it going on my Go7300 after getting a modded .inf file that allows you to use the stardard nvidia drivers off the nvidia website.
You just add it and replace the default .inf that comes with the drivers after you extract the installer to a directory.

is where to get them from
I think this is the asus one i used..

The file you need is attached to this post
just make sure you download a 90.xx series driver as they are for vista.

That worked. Thanks. So much.

In case anyone needs it, here is the sound driver for the W7J (and other models that use the Realtek HD Audio codecs).
-
-
Nevermind I got the Audio working on my W3J
-
-
Tell me RougeMonk, how smooth is the Go7400 in Vista in Aero Glass?. I only got mine going on the last day of my trial, and it wouldnt allow me to just put my other vista key in, it just froze! uurg!

Seems fine. Vista assigns a score to your machine and sets default 3D action based on that score. So depending on the score, various portions of the AREO theme will work.

Does Power4Gear work for anyone?
I installed Vista RC1 on my W3V (since the XP partition got corrupted) and I can't seem to get Power4Gear to run.
Vista seems pretty nice. However, I miss some of the features that the XP installation offers. For example, there's no ATI Utility that manages the speed of the video card (x600). I'd like the ability to run the video card at full speed, especially when I have it plugged in so that I could play games. Also like everyone else, the bluetooth stack doesn't work. The installation of the bluetooth module seems to get stuck at 63%.
P.S. I love eye candy -
-
I can't get bluetooth working either.
-
I too am having issues getting Bluetooth to work on my W5F. The bluetooth stack appears to be installed, but I can't add a device. I'm using RC1 Build 5728.
I did notice, however, that the Bluetooth LED is not lit up on my front panel palm rest. The WiFi LED is lit up though. So, it doesn't even appear to be functional. I tried installing the Asus W_Console, but it won't let me. It says "Can't find ATK100" even though Vista went out and grabbed the latest version from Windows Update. I even tried installing an older version from my Asus CD and it didn't work.
I don't know what to do from here. -
Ive got my A8Jm running on Vista now, but i cant seem to get the nVidia drivers to work from the nivida site, or laptopvideo2go
