    OC-Freak, I have some questions:

1- As stated on Asus website, this model comes with either Intel Core i7 2670QM or 2630QM Processor? which one is yours? and is there any big difference between them?

2- excaliberpc.com says on the specifications details that " NVidia GeForce GT 555M 2GB GDDR3", but on Asus and some other online shops websites I see that the memory type is DDR3?

3- excaliberpc.com says that it comes with Built-in 2.0 Megapixel Video Camera and Bluetooth V2.1 + EDR as opposed to HD webcam and Bluetooth 3.0 + HS on Asus website?

EDIT: I found this model N55SF-A1... what does the A1 mean ?

    Thank you!

I think A1 just means its the first edition... A2 will be the first revision... Where did you find it?

I think that's just the US model number? There's a different model number in Europe (N55SF-S1184V). All this modeling and number is messed up. Different models in malaysia, different in the US, different in Europe.

Anyways. I found it on this site Komplett.se - ASUS N55SF 15.6" Full HD Matt which i think is Swedish. Nothing in the UK or anywhere else so far.

Wasnt this supposed to be released mid August?

Anyone know what the difference between the n55 and n53 is? Just sub and design? And the video card?

Video card is the most noticeable change, and matte fullHD display, n53 only have glare displays AFAIK.

    Rest is just design/external sub.

Hmm... the video card is marginally better. But the glossy screen on the n53 could kill it for me... its just soo hard to get the n55 in Canada... and I want to be able to return it in case I dont like it for any reason...

Or I could go with the dell xps... but meh

Dell XPS has also the 540M graphics card. I've been waiting to upgrade since there's a related post on dells forums but nothing so far. Plus Dell XPS is soooo expensive compaired to this one.

Yea... but its alot more convenient to buy from dell expecially in canada. Also, I can return it easily if anthing is wrong... But I'd prefer the asus cause of the warranty and the price...

Is the performance that much better? According to benchmarks it has about a 30% increased performance but this only translates to about 6 fps difference in games like starcraft...

Ok, let's take SC2 as an example then. GT 540M averages at 37fps. GT555M averages at 43fps. Those are the averages, higher averages generally means less fps drops too, it's the fps "spikes" that hurts the gameplay, so for gameplay 6fps avg more might mean a whole lot since you generally gets less dips.

But no it's not a lot, but it's enough differnce to be noticeable in some games depending on setting and resolution. The deal is, if you can get an PC with the GT555 for around the same price as an PC with GT540, you don't loose anything, you get about same battery life with power saving due to optimus. Heat output is not noticeably higher so cooling system doesn't need to be noisy and so on.

IMO Nvidia GT555/AMD HD6770 is ideal in terms of performance vs heat output vs power saving features and thus computers built around these gfx cards is to me very good alternatives. You get decent performance without sacrificing too much in terms of heat/noise/battery life.

Been using my N55SF a bit now, and I really love it. The best part is not the great speakers or the outstanding matte fullHD screen, but the low noise cooling system. You won't believe how silent the cooling system is, even at max load it's hardly noticeable, it's just slightly more noisy than the cooling system of my acer 3820TG, which uses two fans for cooling less powerful components.

Gaming or doing work with close to silence is priceless, I didn't expect it to be anywhere near as silent as it is. So thumbs up for that.

Oh and I have to mention it again; I've not had an matte laptop screen for like 5 years or so....... and I have to say I've missed it, really! It's just so much better to work with, no distracting light reflections, and it's so crisp as well, I had some images and I discovered small details in them I couldn't see on the HP DV6 (1366 x 768 screen), it's amazing.

OK I think this post may have pushed me over the edge to get the n55. Its more about the fact that you are really enjoying the machine than the cooling or anything else...

ASUS warranty is very good (most comes with 2 year warranty). The very bad part is its customer service. Usually it takes a couple tries to get to somebody who knows a little bit about computer, and is willing to assist you in sending the machine in for repair.

Graphics Double Data Rate 3 (GDDR3) is a graphics card-specific memory technology. We'll check on the Bluetooth and webcam and get back to you. Thank you!

Just from what you told me here, made me smile and I think this is my choice, I am getting N55SF than Dell l502x. Cooling system on l502 has such a bad design, and I am actually glad the technicians broke it for me by just rpelacing the fan, it wouldnt start right after. Will miss the display though, speakers and chiclet keys.

Thanks for clarifying what does GDDR3 mean! Still, you did not mention why the memory type that is on EXcaliberPC site is not like the one the official Asus site?

Can you also confirm what's the display type (MATT or Glossy) ?

Yes seems to have the same 5 tabs to release the keyboard.

An n53 keyboard will probably not fit though, since design is different, so you'd have to wait for an n55 compatible keyboard to be released.

And I have not seen nordic layout replacements keyboards available, which kinda blows it for us scandinavians.

    It idles around 50C.

And yes, fan is always running, but it's so silent you can't really hear it, even if you put your ear close to fan vent.

So far only the black show up, however we have already told ASUS that there might be some customers looking for the white.

ASUS N55SF is released since of last week and we have been shipping them since Friday. They are in stock and ready for shipping.

It is supposed to be GDDR3 regardless what ASUS decide to put, because it's dedicated to graphics memory.

    The ASUS N55SF-A1 has a 15.6" Full HD (1920 x 1080) LED Display

p.s. The version of N55SF-A1 we have has Bluetooth 3.0 and 2 Megapixel Webcam.

The matte fullHD screens we are getting in Scandinavia is great, I have no complaints (still you get the typical viewing angle limits of an TN display).

The fact that it is matte makes it so much better to work with.
Blacks are very good, better than any other laptop I've had the last 5 years at least.
Details are superb due to the high pixel density, colours are great too.
Brightnes is just too good, I'm never going to use it at max brightness since that requires sunglasses ;)

Unfortunately Sony support forced me to get one of their own laptops cause of some hiccup with my warranty... So I'm getting the F series 3D (at a very discounted price) instead of the Asus... Oh well... the F should be a solid laptop as well.

Thank you OC-Freak for the reply.

Damn.. I love the temps on it. Seriously with l502x it was horrible with the idle temps, and it was with i5-2410m. And the on-off spins on the fans was making it even worse, ppl would turn around see the cause of the noise.

I cant wait to get my hands on it, more of because I am in serious need of it for school, Will get my hands on it thursday and then fresh install of win7, off with all the redundant softwares.

The specifications are so damn sweet, for its price:

    Komplett.dk - ASUS N55SF 15.6" Full HD Matt

I doubt it but I wish there would be a chiclet keyboard for this model, in nordic layout!!!!

Shame you couldnt get "full" refund.

For the good part.. I just got the laptop today!!!! So beautiful and I gotta say that the screen is amazing, not as good as the one on l502x but it is pretty close with small adjustment, you can get clear and vivid colors on it! The desing is a whole lot better, and I am surprised how silent it is! The only thing that overwhelms the complete silence is the HDD though, you can hear a small murmur. But that is it.. its smooth and silent when idle, when it does get into load, with turboboost you will hear a constant fan exhaust but the sound is linear and satisfying. Usually I am really picky with any irregular noise emission but this is not obnoxious at all, unlike with the l502x I had.

One bad thing about is that it is a bit flexible from return key area to numpad area. Though I dont recall the keys being wobbly from a review found on youtube.

So far I am happy, but just got it on my hands just an hour ago...

It seems the speakers doenst like high pitched vocals when the volume is set to max.

More specific if you run the youtube video song:

    Oh Land - Rainbow

Oh Land - Rainbow - YouTube

I get screech sounds coming from the speakers, like they cant reach a certain frequency. The sound is distorted on certain songs. Does that occur to you as well?

Hey guys, I've read all the posts here and I'm very interested in buying the i7 version of the device in a few days. The problem is that I'm in Romania at the moment and I can't find any store in the European Union selling it with i7 (the only EU store is from Estonia, but only has the i5, both in black and white). I want to buy it from the EU because we have to pay 24% VAT (Sales tax) for products received from non-EU countries. Does anyone know if there's any chance I could buy it from the stores in Denmark/Sweden/Norway, or can you provide other information/solution ? Thanks in advance !

    Hi everyone,

A review have been posted on the french version of 01.net.

The guy said that the keyboard is pure . I'm quite amazed cause i read here there was no issue with the keyboard. The review said the keyboard flex like a slice of pepperoni, and the multimedia key are misplaced, causing a lot of mistake while typing.

    Anyone can confirm?

Hey Guys, im planing to buy this laptop too, i was wonder between this one and Dell L502x.
But this one have 40% more powerfull graphics and good at sound too.
Only problem is that in my country is only version with 1366x768.
    Asus N55SF - SX219

So is there any difference between that 1366x768 and HD+/Full HD in viewing angles or brightness or something?

Yes the right part of the keyboard flex noticeably (enter key and numpad area), and the keys are a bit unstable and will tilt a bit if you hit them at the sides instead of middle.
And yes the multimedia keys are poorly placed, esp. while gaming and using shift/ctrl a lot.

The keyboard is the worst part of the whole computer - still, the keyboard is better than the N53 keyboards - which sucks even more.......
