So im headed to teh SDCC in july, and i dont want to bring my G50-VT A2. Ive been wanting to get a netbook for a while and have been lookign at the 1005HA for a while. Althought i heard that in the next few months the Nvidia chips will be put into netbooks, and also some other little upgrades.

So basically i was wondering should i go ahead and get this netbook, and just bring my g50!?!? Or do i wait for the new chips, and maybe a better res, etc?

also my last question will this asus 1005ha be able to run windows 7? (without all that lag etc)

Oh yeah i also forgot to mention im basically going to use this netbooks for schol use, media, and maybe some of those old old games like duke nukem? or some other little games, aim/msn/ym (will be using this allot). and prob a few other stuff which dont come to mind right now.

From what you are using this netbook for I think it is a moot point whether it will have an nvidia chipset in the next year. A netbook is still going to be a netbook and expecting anything other than basic computing functions will only leave you disappointed.

Windows 7 runs fine on any EEE pc made in the last year right now so the 1005HA should be no different. If you want to increase performance I suggest purchasing a 2gb stick of ram for it.

Ah, well, my Asus 1005HA or wait question is buy it now or buy it later? Assuming I'm going to buy in the next 4 weeks...so far, it doesn't seem to make sense to preorder, given that the preorder price seems to be MSRP. Worst case, it will stay the same, and I'll have a few weeks of deferred gratification, best case it might wiggle downward a little once it's actually available. Or am I just wasting time and it will be months before it loosens up?

Agreed. I'd also wonder what the cost of the new units would be. The 1005HA is already at the upper part of the netbook price spectrum.

netbooknewbie, I doubt the price will come down any time soon. Your best bet is to try to get some sort of cash back deal via live.com or fatwallet.com.

Samsung to introduce NVIDIA Ion-powered netbook
    http://www.engadget.com/2009/06/29/samsung-to-introduce-nvidia-ion-powered-netbook/

"According to a mag called Netbook Italia (which might have something to do with computers) Samsung is developing a new NVIDIA Ion-powered netbook platform, with the first such device making the scene in Europe as early as July. The N510 boasts a 1.66 GHz N280 processor, 11.6-inch WXGA display, 1GB RAM, 160GB hard drive, WiFi, Bluetooth, 3-in-1 card reader, and a 6-cell battery. The addition of a GPU should help out quite a bit when viewing HD video, although we're guessing this could take its toll on battery life. Either way, we'll find out soon enough."

What's all the hype about this NVIDIA Ion thing? Isn't it just a better graphics card or is there more to it?

CUDA is going to be a big help in terms of decoding and specifically flash on sites like hulu and youtube.
