I have Windows 7 Ultimate x64 running on my 1201N, but the bluetooth doesn't seem to be working correctly. A headset that I have used on the same OS on other computers isn't recognized. Also, it's missing something called a coprocessor driver. I'm not even sure what that is. Is it possible I am missing the chipset driver? Anyone else noticed the same thing?

Overall I am happy with this computer, it's much faster than my 1005HA (which I still have). I gave away an MSI 12" laptop (weighing around 4 or 5 pounds) when I bought my 1201N. Battery life could be better, but I don't use power saving settings. I get a little over 3 hours on the 1201N and about 5.5 on the 1005HA.

download the nvidia drivers from the nvidia website itself.

you should have to install a bluetooth driver because I believe it is installed when you install win7 64bit. I dont use bluetooth but I see the bluetooth icon on my win7 64bit 1201n.

Just out of curiosity, Did everyone received their sleeve carry case for this laptop. I am waiting for mine from Amazon which says it comes with one but I also notice I couldn't find a picture of the sleeve in any reviews or store pictures.

I believe the sleeve thing, is the white protective microfiber like thing that it comes packed in. It's more just like protective packing material than an accessory. If you were hoping for a proper protective sleeve I suggest you grab one from ebay for about $5-10.

yep i was wondering about why i didn't get a sleeve than i saw the asus logo on it and think to my self would this be the sleeve lol

but too make sure i emailed laptopinc which i got the laptop from and he said that's what asus calls a sleeve lol

but he even said he wouldn't call it a sleeve and he edited it out of the specs lol

tho i do use it a sleeve till i get a real one i put it on and put it in my laptop case helps to prevent scratch's.

    cool :)

oh little update on overclocking i figure i try the memory i have in my dell 9300 which has ddr 2 533mhzs 2x1gb and i went to overclock and so far i have it at 1950mhzs with the stock or my g50vt 800memory in it will freeze and blue screen around 1900-1920mhzs.

so it seem like lower mhzs memory overclocks better or the memory is good memory sense its a pretty known brand corsair i bought that memory about a a year or 2 ago for my dell 9300.

your memory is lower than 800mhzs too right jake?

    edit 1976mhzs now

depens some memory overclock more than each other. and the ram i bought for my dell 9300 must be good overclocking.

in games memory speeds doesn't matter much i pretty much would get more performance sense my cpu is higher.

Yes I am running one stock (667 I believe) and then one from another laptop I had that is 533 or so. I think what happens when you have mismatched speeds is that it runs at the lower speed but the Latency settings are matched to the higher of the two (normally the faster Ram has higher Latency). Maybe that is why I had success since my faster ram is actually running at a higher latency.
Also Everest is showing my memory effective memory clock as 833MHZ, (and thats at 2.0GHZ) 10:4 RAM:FSB ratio, so maybe since you are running into problems at 159 FSB and above that is where your memory clock is going from 795 to over 800.

So in theory memory rated at 800 MHZ should allow you to overclock to at least 1.9GHZ, but if you want higher than that you will need higher rated memory. Or maybe high quality Ram that at a lower rating. Just cos something is rated at a speed doesnt mean it will perform above that speed especially if it low quality. Anyway that is my 2 cents.

another dumb question, does it make any sense to use Readyboost on a usb to add more memory or is it kind of a waste.

It depends on your uses, how fast the usb device is and how much RAM you have. If you have more than 2GB of RAM don't open and close a lot of different programs and the USB device is of average speed it probably wont make a huge difference.

ya sense the cas on this ram what it shows in cpuz 2.0 4 4 12 16 thats pretty low think the 800mhzs ones was 5 or 6s

tho the ram should be runing at 4.o cas but the 1201n puts it too 2.0.

ony 800mhzs ram that has low latencys is this one http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820104148

so when i buy more ram for this sense i like to have 4gb 3.25 . i problee get that one or one of the 533s or 667s sense they seem to have all low latenceys .

tho kinda have a problem with booting with theses rams sometimes it wont boot have take the battery out and put it back in and than it boots.

slumpey326 i use a micro high speed sd card for ready boost not sure if its helping but it does seems too help in games a bit better :) sense right now im ony useing 2gb.

oh that ram is good but not sure about overclocking sense 800mhzs ram has high latencys. i would try to higher the latency in ntune thats if you haveint done that aready. oh and for bad ram trust me you would know sense you be getting alot of errors.

edit im at 2000mhzs now :)

The ION chipset driver from Nvidia worked like a charm. The bluetooth headset is still messed up, but I have the icon too. I had it before. My experience with Windows 7 is that bluetooth is extremely flaky unless you install the correct driver. The generic Microsoft ones have never gotten the job done for me. But it could just be my iLuv i212 headset that's flaky with the generic drivers. :D

@ Gordesky1: can you run some 3dmark06 and passmark test at 2000mhz with your current ram?

    did you test for stability?

so the lower the latency , the better for overclock? so then why you guys say to increase the latency in the nvidia ion memory setting?

would be so good if ddr2 was available in 1066mhz. it would speed up the graphics also

yes the ram with the lower latency is better but you still have to higher the latency in ntune the higher you overclock.

the more you higher the latency the more overclock you get on the memory.

if you aready have ram with high latency you pretty much not gona get to far sense its runing at high latency just to run the stock clocks.

if you look at cpuz spd tab you see what you memory can do like mine says at 266mhzs2x 533mhzs it can do 4.0 4 4 12 16 at 200mhzs it can do 3.0 3 3 9 12.

i had to higher all the latency on the stock 800mhzs allmost too the max they go to get 1900mhzs sense there latency was 5 or 6 aready.. same goes for my g50vt memory but that memory was worser than the stock memory in this 1201 lol couldint get 1900 stable no matter what.

ya 1066 would be nice for overclocking... but it wouldint speed much up for graphics pretty much just for benchs.

sense i pretty much try to overclock everything i have and i have tested 800mhzs vs 1066mhz speeds in my desktop and pretty much theres no diffrence in games. sense sometime you have to run you ram lower than stock to get better cpu clocks but with laptops you cant lower the mhzs on the ram like desktops.. :(

but its nice to have everyhing clocked up nice thats how i run my desktop with a amd 965@4ghzs and have the 1066 ram to 1160mhzs

ya so far its seems stable gona play some games and run stress testing on it and i run 3dmark 06 and passmark and post the results :)

From what I understand when running RAM in dual channel if you have mismatched sticks then it will run at the CL that matches the higher of the two. i.e. if one stick is DDR2 533 CL3 and another is DDR2 667 CL4 Then is will run at DDR2 533 CL4 (basically the worse case scenario for each stick). Maybe this mismatch is what is assisting me in OCing. I probably should try some tests with taking some RAM out and swapping it around.

jake whats your 3dmark 06 score?

so far mine is staying under 1800 :( even at 2ghzs the cpu is scoreing good but the ion is kinda low ony scoreing 600s even when overclocking the ion.

With OC both the GPU and CPU I can get to 1860
Look here for my post with my benchmarks.
I think with a little tweaking I could break the 1900 mark. Maybe this weekend I will try. I think I can push both the CPU and GPU a little higher, but heat becomes an issue and it will randomly freeze when stressing both, but I can stress one or the other fine.

@gordesky1: I'm very interested to see what kind of performance gains can be obtained from the Kingston CL4 ram. I have been considering that myself. So far, with the stock ram, I have managed the, apparently typical, OC of 1.88GHz and managed a 3DMark score of 1794 with the ION OC'ed to GPU 500MHz and Shaders 1200MHz.

I have noticed that all the games I have tried on it so far have only used one core on the CPU. I believe they utilize both cores on my desktop; so, is there something extra I need to change to allow both cores to be seen by all applications?

I believe I found the solution to my own question. In the nVidia Control Panel, under 3D Setting > Manage 3D settings there is an option called Threaded Optimization. This was set to "Auto," I changed it to "On." Now the same games that were previously only using one thread are now using two and four threads. This does not seem to have increased the max FPS significantly; however, it does seem that the min FPS has dramatically increased in games that are now utilizing both cores.

WoW, oddly enough, has not seen much of a change in FPS, despite spreading it's workload across two threads; but, it's load times have decreased. It is possible that it is still only operating on a single core, but is now making use of hyper-threading... not quite the result I was hoping for, but improvement is still improvement, I suppose. In open world settings, I get 30-35 FPS on med gfx settings and native res, in capital cities I get 15-20, and in Dalaran I get 6-10 in crowded areas of town.

Despite WoW's lack of gfx improvement, Rappelz (F2P MMO produced by GALA-NET rappelz.gpotato.com) went from using one thread to now using all four available threads; and, performance in towns and dungeons, which previously cut the FPS in half, is now much closer to it's max performance in open world areas. There was also a noticeable decrease in input lag for skill execution and wait times for window loads. While an increase in max FPS would have been nice, Rappelz was already running at an acceptable 30-40 FPS outside town with high gfx; so, overall, a welcomed change and very playable game, even at native res.

you would be above the 1900 mark with Xp pro for sure. It has been concluded in the myhpmini.com 311 forum, after alot of testing that xp is 15-20% faster than win 7, especially in games, even if you tweek win 7. something to do with 7 eating more cpu cycles than xp. untill windows fix this , xp will be the faster OS on atom based cpu.

I was also reading about the kingston hyper x ddr2-800 memory and it seems like it is the way to go. aparently with a more relaxed timings, it can easily reach 933mhz+. Also read that OCZ is one of the best overclockable memory out there.

1201NL without OS, and with single core Atom, but only $20 to $30 less? I was thinking more like $100 less.

I would hope that the Kingston HyperX memory would OC higher than that. I am able to reach 942MHz memory bus with the stock DDR2-800 CL6 sticks in the 1201N without any timing tweaks.

for some reason the ion in mine is under performing in 3dmark 06 the scores is ony around 600s but the cpu is around 1030@2ghzs so that is working good.

but even overclocking the ion it doesn't do anything.. i know its not gona give much score but i expect little.

max 3dmark 06 score i can get is 1730 @2ghzs and with the ion at 530 and 1200 shader and 550memory.

now im wondering if ion deepens on the memory speed cause your memory jake is around 800 when at 2ghzs right?

when mine is at 2ghzs mine is around 667mhzs. sense im running 533mhzs but aint yours running at 533 too at stock clocks?

hmmm i don't know. I think the hyper x was with CL5 timing. maybe with CL6 it would be even more. I have no idea in what system they tested it also.

although I'm sure the hyper-X is more stable at those speeds.

@ferrarista: You are correct, by default the HyperX does run at CL5; however, it has been tested and verified to run stable at 4-4-4-12. I would hope that this would translate to the ability to OC further than typical CL5 ram, such as the OCZ memory that slumpey is running.

@gordesky1: When I scored 1794 3DMarks, mine was clocked at CPU 1.88GHz, GPU 500MHz, Shaders 1200MHz, and Memory 800MHz. FSB is at 157MHz, everything stable.

    3DMarks - 1794
    SM2.0 - 678
    SM3.0 - 694
    CPU - 974

For overclocking I am just using OCTuner only, no other programs, and just upping the CPU frequency to 150 to get my CPU to 1.8ghz. Is this fine or do I need to do anything else.

    I also have 4gb worth of memory at 800mhz (PC2 6400), I believe the latency is 5.

Correct because it uses the RAM for Video RAM the faster RAM helps. but if we have the same overclock (i.e. same FSB) then the RAM should be running at the same speed. The FSB to RAM Speed ration is 2.5:1 i.e. the memory will run at 2.5x the FSB (you then double it since it DDR2). so 167 FSB = 417.5 x 2 = 835 in my case. This is regardless of what you RAM is rated at.

kind of a dumb question but when I updated the nvidia drivers for win64 when I did a reinstall, I only found the graphics driver under the ion notebook section for 64 bit, the other two drivers (chipset & hdmi audio) I got from the ion desktop 64bit section since there was none for these in the notebook section for 64bit. Is this correct?

what i dont get is when im at 2ghzs 167fsb my ram is at 667mhzs and shows 2:1 fsb ratio.

and my ram is rated at 533mhzs.

like at stock my ram would show 266 which is 2x266 is 532.

but why is yours diffrent and you have 533mhzs too?

jake about 2 pages back you said you running 667mhzs stock stick but the stock sticks in theses 1201s is 800mhzs and than you said 533mhz for the other stick you sure the 533mhzs stick aint 667?

cause that would make more sense i don't think a 533mhz stick is gonna overclock way up to 833mhzs that's like a 300mhzs overclock on the ram lol.

can you put everything at stock speed and check cpuz memory tab for me and tell me what it says?

The reason for this is that the notebook ion is not meant to support windows 64bit since the n270/280 atom processors which are meant to be the notebook processors don't support x64.

I agree that does seem like a huge OC and my only explanation is that it is running at the high CL of the faster stick. Actually now thinking about it I think I may have been mistaken. I think it was PC5300 (which would be 667) that is confusing me. I apologize. So it seems like I have 2GBs of 667 rated RAM and 1GB of the stock that I assume is PC6400 (800) since that is what I think I remember the specs on this being. But now I am double thinking that, since I think that is what my Acer Revo 1600 is. I have way too many Ion based systems that all have different speed RAM.
Any way here is my CPU-Z memory tab at stock FSB 133 and OC FSB 167.

The interesting figure there is the CL2 number. but maybe 2 clocks = 4 since it is DDR or something.

Yes or you can grab them all from the desktop section, there is no difference between the desktop and notebook drivers I believe. They just try to change the availability to make it less confusing.

its no problem :) yep thats my problem than runing 267mhzs 533mhzs stock and when im overclock too 167 it shows 667... gotta get better memory lol

i atleast want to get some good 2x2gb 800mhzs memory or even good 667 memory.

now im not sure what would give me better peroformence if i should run the 533mhzs with the 2ghzs clock or run the stock 800mhzs and have it at 1.9ghzs.

ony thing that shows performence loss is 3dmark 06 so far

i had the cpu up too 2.050mhzs but the ram gave out around 680 than restarted lol

oh and thanks for posting the screenshots :)

    Well I got to 1900.
FSB: 166 (at 167 it will randomly crash during 3dmark06 and also while I was playing WOW)
    GPU Clock: 600
Processor Clock: 1250 (at 1300 I get some random crashes referencing dx errors during 3dmark06.

These settings seem to be pretty stable (I will do some more stress testing this weekend) also this is with 1GB of the stock ram and 2GB of PC5400 DDR2 667 RAM (I will open it up later and get the manufacturer but if I remember correctly it was whatever was cheapest at the time).

    wow that's a nice score :)

cant wait till i get better ram so my ion scores would be up there. my cpu score is usely around 1030 to 1040 @2.0ghzs 167fsb so that's doing good.

    @ jakejm79

thats the best score ive seen yet! its great to see the video OC so high. it would seem the higher you OC the CPU/FSB you can get higher clocks squeezed out of the video.

this is awesome! thanks for the pictures.

Yeah I can get the GPU Core up to 625 (I think that is the max since setting it any higher wont stick). 3DMark06 runs fine at 625 but other games have texture issues, so I backed it down to 600. Plus it basically made no difference to the scores. I think I have pretty much maxed this thing out, unless I get some faster RAM.

I prefer the functionality of W7 over XP, and this isn't a gaming rig so gaming performance/benchmark scores aren't that important. I'm sure if I did install XP I could break the 2000 mark.
