Just type mouse into the search spot on the startmenu and then click on the synaptics tab.
I guess I just got lucky with the OC, all I have done is a fresh install of windows 7 HP and then swapped 1 1GB ram stick for a 2GB one I had laying around (that is DDR2 667, maybe since that causes the stock 800MHZ stick to run at higher CL timings).
Also I have just bought a Acer Revo1600 that I OCed by the same method, and that I only got to 1.8GHZ (it is just the single core Atom 230), and that was running the 1GB I took out of the 1201N and the stock DDR2 800 it came with.

Uloga im not sure why you getting suck low fps you should be getting alot more on the avg and max...
did you install new drivers for the ion?
oh and i don't think upgrading too 64bit will help much sense im running the 32bit one that comes with it.
and have like 60 to 70 processes still have to clean the junk out of it lol.
and don't plan too sense upgrade to it will not give me full 4gb of memory sense the ions eats it up lol but if i do plan to go more than 4gb than i will but so far i don't see that for a long time.
but even with the stock 2x1gb i had the same fps as i do with 3.3gb 4gb but upgrading too more ram helped games that take alot of memory like mmos and stuff. -
For anyone interested getting some more battery life out of the N330, this may work: link.
_________
Discussing installing OS X on non Apple hardware is against the Forum Rules. -
to get the overclock, you used OCTuner to increase the frequency only, right? -
Little confused here, what should we be downloading to get the battery timing up -
The link should work now: http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?p=5681723#post5681723 -
Ok, so now I'm getting pretty angry. I tried to shrink the volume of the secondary partition, and now all the other ones show up in "Computer", is there a way to hide these again? + My pc wont boot, it just gives me a white blinking "_"
I'm gonna try fixmbr and fixboot in repair console EDIT: Ok, I can't get into the repair console through booting up W7 from USB-key... And F8 doesn't work either.. Gues reïnstall is the only thing that's going to fix this....
EDIT 1:I reinstalled windows, but now ALL MY DRIVES are Dynamic ...... Should I keep it this way? Or change it back to basic? (and how?)
EDIT 2: Ok, I used the command prompt to delete all volumes and change it back to basicagain a Reïnstall
-
Actually it looks like Crystalcpuid only allows changing of the multipliers and voltage not the FSB depending on OS/CPU load. I guess what we would need is a program that dynamically changed the FSB depending on OS/CPU load, maybe a hacked SHE or something where it runs at 66, 133 or 166 FSB depending on the CPU utilization. Of course we could do this manually with OC Tuner. -
-
now drivers reinstall and done
-
Did you click on "disk options" or something similar when you are on the screen where you get to pick where you want to install windows.

anyone got the superhybrid working on x64, I mean, auto start-up?

Hi,
Very good thread, thanks
I'm looking for infos about 1201N.
Does anyone have tested to play games with the Atom 330 @1,9 or 2,0 ? Works it better ?
And what about Seven, with the oc ? No particular problems when browsing 20 or 30 tabs in Firefox ?
Games I use : Guild Wars, Sims 3, Half Life 2 (all episode)
Does these games work fine @ stock ?
Thanks -

find the shortcut, drag and drop it into the Startup setction under start->all programs

do you guys ever here the fan get louder when on the 1201n. I installed more ram and I dont know if I am going insane but I hear the fan more now. I cant remember what it was like with 2gb installed.
Shouldnt you hear it less with more ram installed. My computer says 4gb installed, 3.25 usable so they are in correctly. Just wondering about others opinions.
Is ocz good ram, that is what I put in. What other memory brands are good: crucial, corsair, gskil. -
But it's more likely that your mind is playing tricks on you
As a solution to reduce fan noise undervolting is very effective. I just don't know if it's possible with the N330. -
yep slumpey326 ocz is one of the best
when im in a market for ram i look for theses brands ocz - mushkin which i have in my desktopand theses other 2 crucial, corsair.
when i get a set of 4gb of ram sense right now im using my g50vt-x5 ram and it has to go back in soon sense the 2gb i got in that wont be good for gaming lol
i problee get ocz or mushkin oh forgot about Kingston which is also good brand was looking at there hyperx memory seems like it will overclock nicely. -
thanks, just didnt know. Makes me feel better now. I couldnt remember if I heard the fan when it was just with the pre-installed 2gbs compared to when I upped it to 4gbs.
-
is gskil a good ram brand.
Has anyone figured out how to undervolt the 1201n. Would this work:
http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=235824&highlight=undervolt -
RMClock doesn't support Atom chips. You'll have to use crystalCPUID, disable speedstep and it will only work with AC plugged in. -
how do you disable speedstep in it, also if you use crystalcpuid how do you get it to run on startup and have the F4 thing going I believe to make sure we are getting the most out of our battery.
-
According to Intel N330 doesn't have Speedstep. So no need to disable it.
-
thats good then, is crystalcpuid a good tool to install. I was looking at the download page and I couldnt figure how to get it to run on startup with F4 enabled.
-
It's a good tool and you don't need to install it because it's a portable edition.
You can drag a shortcut to the startup folder of programs. That way it will start everytime you boot your system. I don't know how to enable F4 on startup though. -
Im still confused in what to get...Either a UL30vt or a 1201n to upgrade my 1000HA which I find too small and hard to work on if doing more than just reading emails and viewing websites.
My concern is the battery life of the dual core 330 atom...and the power of it. -
-
I may be getting 4gb of extra ram very cheap to up my 1201n to 8gb ram, will there be a big increase from 4gb ram to 8gb in performance, speed.
-
There won't be any difference unless you run applications that actually need the memory. Like editing a large HD movie.
-
I am planning to upgrade to 4gb; however, I don't want to lose any ability to OC. I can maintain a stable 1.88 GHz with the OEM ram. I am considering the following:
OCZ DDR2-800 Cas 5
or
Kingston HyperX DDR2-800 Cas 4
My hope is that the Kingston will allow for a higher OC than what I currently can obtain. Has anyone tried either of these and, if so, how far can you OC? -
BIOS Questions:
1) Does anyone see the option to adjust SHE settings in the BIOS
I upgrade my ram to 4gb so I was just wondering if I lost the option since I did the memory upgrade. Can others check: see pic below
http://www.liliputing.com/2009/06/asus-eee-pc-user-manual-shows-overclocking-option-in-bios.html
2) Also in BIOS, should I set CPU configuration to Enabled to Disabled (I believe this refers to max cpu). Default was set to Disabled.Last edited by a moderator: May 8, 2015 -
Another question, I bought this RAM for a total of 4gbs (2x2gb):
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820227251
but when I go into CPU-Z in the memory section, I see DRAM Frequency = 408 Mhz. Shouldnt this say 800. Same with the SPD section I see Max Bandwidth: PC2-6400 (400 Mhz). Am I missing something here.
Does the memory I bought being dual channel or that there is two memory sets installed how something to do with it. -
ram bandwidth is measured in 2 pipelines. i.e 400mhz in 400mhz out for a total of 800mhz, cpuz reads it as 400mhz
-
so it is good then, right?
-
yes, its just fine.
-
slumpey326 i never had that SHE option in bios even with stock ram.
would've been nice too problee could overclock more from the bios -
thanks gordesky, did you touch the option pertain to max cpu in cpu configuration section. I believe it is set to disabled by default.
-
hmm not sure what the cpu configuration is but i put mine on enable and it seems like it doesint do anything for overclock or anything i can see..
but im sure it has too be for something just dont know what lol -
cool, thanks gordesky
-
@slumpey: don't waist your time in putting 8gb. on the reviews at newegg.com , someone tried and it still sees 3.3gb ram even with win 7 64bit.
so then this confirms that the memory controller only sees 3.5gb like previously stated. I find it stupid that they would do that.
so I guess running win 7 64 bit on this netbook is useless too. stick to 32 bit. less problems with driver and such.
it is the same thing with the n330 ion zotac aparently. -
or the person doesnt realize that when you put the memory in afterwards you need to go into BIOS and make sure it recognizes it and then push F10 to save it.
If you dont do that it WONT recognize the new memory. I will bet you that was what happened.
Also all my 64 drivers are working perfectly. I have 4gb installed, at first it didnt recognize it but after the BIOS F10 save, it showed 4gb installed (3.25 usable) -
Was just wondering what the temperature readings of your 1201Ns were when they were running.
-
That being said, thanks for your pointer. I'm sure it will save a lot of headache for other users.
Anyone who has one, can you confirm Battlefield 2 fps at 1366x768 with "low" detail setting but 100% view distance? -
good point, but the guy says that the computer sees 8gb installed , but can only use 3.3gb and like 4.6 allocated to hardware on win 7 32bit or 64bit.
the memory controller can't use more than 3.5gb. the guys with zotac pc have the same problem.
if what you say is true you should have 3.75 gb usable and not 3.25gb. -
that could be true.
but this netbook is doing the same as one of my desktops did showed ony 3.25gb instead of the 4gb.
but it had couple bios options that lets you see the full gb which is called memory hole but everything gets unstable the sound would quit the eithernet would quit and the video would be all mess up.
than i looked up and saw that some boards needs that memory for the sound Ethernet and video controllers so that could be the same thing the 1201n is doing the other hardware shares memory and needs it.
so it should take 8gb of memory but show around 7gb of memory or 6.
but ya i also had to go in bios and save the settings what slumpey326 did
or it would just stay at 2gb of ram i was confused i thought the ram wasn't in right so i remember that one guy on youtube did it with a non base asus netbook the 1005? and he went in bios and that fixed it so i did that and it worked.
so ony way we would find out if it works is if someone installs 8gb of memory later on when more peaple buys this.
i would but 8gb of ram is kinda pricey right now.
either way this netbook rocksand i would think 8gb of ram would be overkill lol sense 2gb too 4gb 3.3gb really didn't make much difference ony in games that take alot of memory like mmos.
-
Why would you put in 8GB? Even if it would be supported it won't make you computer faster unless you're editing some huge images in Photoshop or something like that.
-
Hey guys, I think I've read through everything I can on here about the 1201N, all great info!
I'm really interested in this laptop to serve as an ultra portable. I'm a mac guy, but my current budget doesn't allow for a macbook pro; I'll still keep my trusty ibook g4 up an running though.. I'm coming from an OSX background so forgive my 'noobness'
How well do you think this would run Photoshop Elements for some light photo editting?
Whats involved with hooking up another display?
1st. I'd use this with my HDTV via HDMI to watch some Hulu, Youtube, etc..
2nd. I'd like to hook this up with a spare LCD (how well can this handle a second monitor? does it only mirror or can it actually do screen spanning? Can the laptop run with the lid shut while hooked up to an external monitor?
I realize that defeats the purpose of using this as a netbook but was just wondering what the limits of this thing are.
Thanks! -
Well if the other Eee's are any indication (and I owned four of them ...) it's simple to hook up an extra display. You can use an extended desktop (span), you can set the option what to do when the lid is closed so it can operate with an external monitor (just tell it to stay on), and photo editing shouldn't be a problem, as long as you have 4GB RAM. Problem is with the lid is you will have to open the lid to push the power switch if you power down, but most likely if you have it sleep, just moving the mouse or hitting the external keyboard should work fine.
