Also, they may be updating the download section with drivers for it as I went there maybe 7 minutes ago and it loaded...now it wont with the new news article....it may even mean they will be shipping out today (mon) to resellers!!!

IT PAYS TO BE OBSESSIVE ABOUT TECHNOLOGY NEWS!

Yeah 800mhz is too expensive tho... maybe just maybe you can overclock 667 ram to 800mhz via bios.

The biggest upset tho is that it only supports 3gb of ram. With 2gb DDR2 sticks being so cheap now optimal performance would be from 2x2gb for a total of 4gb of ram.

    OMG!!!! WAIT!!!!

Ok, if you type www.asus.com into your web browser then to to the North America link you cant find the product page for the c90 anywhere but you can see the announcement of the c90 dated 6/25 the one i just discovered. But if you go to the link that shaddix provided then click on the blue Asus logo in the top left you see another older announcement for the c90 and guess what: IT SAYS DDR2-800. So who do you believe....??? the latest announcement says DDR2-667 but the links shaddix have are only 4 days old and say DDR2-800 on the product page AND the homepage!!!!!

ok. www.asus.com and clicking "global" vs. clicking "north america" yields different info on the DDR2 speeds supported. Bottom line.

    DDR2-800 is actually very affordable:
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...1052910525+1309221140&name=DDR2+800+(PC2+6400)

BUT im going to be mad if it does support it cause i was trying to find out what it supports and everywhere i looked sayd 667 so i ordered 667 passing up on the 800 and i cant send what i have back....

Those are 1gb sticks of DDR2 800mhz stuff thats expensive... we have 2gb sticks of DDR2 667 for 70$.....(not 2x1gb I mean actual 2gb dimms)

Maybe its cheap if you compare it to ram prices in the past, but its not cheap when you compare it to the current prices of the 667 stuff. Its nearly 2x more expensive.

I still say its very affordable for getting the fastest speed memory even if it isnt the highest ram capacity the laptop can take...I mean $50 for 1GB of the fastest speed memory supported in laptops to date....VERY affordable!

Dont sweat it guys the performance gains from 667 to 800mhz is almost nothing... seriously the limit on 3gb vs 4gb is actually much worse than the mhz limit.

even at 800mhz its not like its on par with the cpu fsb so your still not at the optimal 1:1 cpu/ram fsb ratio.

I would like to say i agree....but in a laptop i think we need every little mhz we can get...i also have doubts the max memory is 3GB...i think its really 4gb but its better to use 3gb for performance and stability reasons (those reasons unnamed at the time). maybe a bios fix with take care of those problems and they will start saying it supports 4GB* the star being only with the updated bios. Good speculation?

    yep ^^ I agree.

Im in serious doubt about 4gb support, its a matter of how the chipset addresses memory addressing.

Am I really going to need 3 GB? I'll be running vista i suppose. :( I was planning on going with two. But say I will be running vista, burning a dvd, playing WoW, and watching anime through the hdmi, and have like 20+ tabs open in firefox at once. Would 2 GB suffice for that?

Yeah 2gb should be fine, just 3gb does offer more performance. Esp if it uses that turbocache stuff wich gives some of the system memory to the gpu as emulated video memory.

With how cheap it is right now, there is no reason to not get 3/4gb of ram really unless your buying it for a high price with a preconfigured setting. Dont do that, buy it 3rd party and put it in yourself.

Im considering getting 2x2gb for the c90 even if it doesnt support 4gb offically just because it will have better resale value or I can migrate it to another machine that does down the road. The cost is only like 30$ more for a 2gb stick vs a 1gb one.

Im just worried there may a be a small performance hit or memory address issue if I do that.

Yeah, part of the ram just wont be used. But you will still be stuck with the slightly worse latency timings of a 2gb dimm, not that its anything you would ever notice, just it would be one of the things in my head.

Wow, looks like he won the contest

EDIT: Also, Vicious, Flex mode will definitely be in full effect here, so you won't be able to see much of a loss from the dual channel aspect. As for not have the capacity for 4, 64 bit OS's are so rarely used it isn't really to the company's benefit to put that in (even though that is sort of silly on a laptop touted for its "upgradability"). In a year-and-a-half's time it will be the new standard.

Yep, I may wait for the C80, it should most defnititly have 4gb support.

Im not waiting for the c80 just because of that tho, im waiting for the 8800m to come out and see its cost and compatability and also for the nvidia / intel price cuts.

As much as im very excited about a c90 the upgrade bug has finaly bitten me on my desktop now that a game like shadowrun pulled it down to its knees. (I dont see how that game looks like crap, its just the worst coded game around right now... plus vista definitly is a slight kill on performance)

Do you have a copy of Windows XP. If so we can run the same benchmarks with 2GB (mine) and 3GB (yours) so we can test if the "3gb magic number" applies to this laptop in XP. Or if its faster or slower in general.

FYI I am literally on the phone with Asus right now as im typing this to find out the DDR2-667 vs 800 issue. As usual the guy sounds like he has NO idea what im talking about....good @#%! grief! Still waiting through his "uhs" and silence. Ok, now im on hold listening to music and advertisements. I told him about the conflicting info on the Asus North America site and the Global site. Still waiting....2:37PM. OK Support Man: "Its 667!" Me: "And your absolutely sure its 667?" Tech Support Man:"Yes, I just looked at the test reports".

So there we have it a quote-unquote "answer" about the memory speed.

One of the things about the C90S that intrigued me was the built in tv tuner option. Does anyone know anymore about the tv tuner option? Because its listed as optional I'm assuming not every C90 comes with one -- the exact wording: "1 MCX Connector for TV-Tuner (Optional)" The wording leads me to believe that a tv tuner actually is standard and all that's needed is the MCX connector which runs about $5. If anyone could shed some light on the tv tuner , it would be greatly appreciated.

If it will be quiet enough an keep the notebook cool, i really don't mind it... However i think both the c91 and the c80 show a promise of being a little closer to perfection... At least for me ;-)

    Computex in Taiwan.
Also, like I said in your other thread, the fan is the absolute best feature of the C90, simply because none of its other features could exist without it.
It also sounds to me like you only need an MCX adaptor.
