    Hello every one. I bought an ASUS C90S at 24/08/2007 a 2 months ago the notebook presented a strange display problem.

    The notebook was running and the display suddenly, starts to present many vertical colored bars and the coolers started to run in high speed.

    I tried to restart the Notebook many times and I got gray windows and suddenly (after many restarts) the notebook started correctly. After 4 hours the problem started again and again. I tried to change the power supply and the battery and the problem still persists.
    For many days I tried to restart the notebook and in 90% of the restarts the computer did not start correctly. In 10 % of the times the computer started correctly and worked fine. if you prefer I can send some pictures to you.

    Well, I would like to know if is this a knower problem or not and if someone has this same problem and if I by a new graphic card will solve the problem or not. Same times I can start the windows in safe mode and I continue with snow in window and with colored vertical bars. One day I was in windows safe mode and tried to start a 3d screen saver when suddenly the display was fixed. After 3 resets the problem back. I removed the HD and tried to start the computer still during the bios setup I can see the display problem. Is impossible to work because the computer is very instable.
    I already changed the RAM memory cards and the problem still persists.

    Well could someone help me? Please !!! This notebook is very good Ind I only would like where is the problem. As the warranty is expired the ASUS support could not help me and I bought the notebook in Germany and I live in Brazil for me is very expensive to send it to a European technician.

    P.S.: Attached you can see the pictures from the problem.

    Thank you very much.

    artifacting is usually a problem of the video card. try with an external monitor and see if u get the same results. Also, the c90s is notorious for defective video cards, especially the 8600m gt ddr2 ( first batch )

    Try ordering 8600mgt ddr3 version ( i bought mine from excaliberpc.com ) for around 180 $. Even if ur problem is not the video card, u will get a significant upgrade from the 8600m gt ddr2.

    I've got exactly the same problem on my C90s. Might be due to overheating...or defective video card...??!

    Unfortunately the DDR3 8600M GT is no longer available for sale as I think it was recently discontinued by Nvidia. Asus replaced my DDR3 8600M GT with a DDR2 one and now are refusing to replace it because they say it is unavailable. I looked online myself and it seems almost impossible to find now.

    Your best bet is ebay now. You can either pick up a second hand 8600M GT or you can try your hand in upgrading to a 9600M GT see thead below;

    This thread is still very active as serveral C90S/P owners including myself are presently trying to upgrade to the even faster GT130M so any questions you have will most certainly be answered by someone in a position of experience there.
