Yeah that's what I was hoping for the barebone is very well priced it's the fact that I have to buy the full version of Windows Vista Home Premium ($219) vs. only buying the upgrade version

Doesn't the barebone include the OS when you buy it with the other required components?

Does anyone know if there will be a C90/C91 without the fans on the back?

And will asus offer other notebooks with upgradeable graphics cards (MXM)?

yes, mentioned earlier, there will be models with weaker video cards that do not require such large fans.

Thanks for your answer, but what I actually meant to ask is:

Will asus offer other notebooks, with NO desktop platform but with the santa rosa mobile platform, combined with upgradeable graphics cards (MXM)?

It seems that the later generations of the C90 family will have Santa Rosa instead.

Just rumours. c90 will not be refreshed with santa rosa. A similar sdanta rosa model will come out in the same size, form but it will not be c90.

Any idea on what these might actuall be. I can assume the 8400 8500 and 8600GT. this doesnt leave much room for an actual "upgrade" in the future when you actually will need it if they aren't planning on newer cards down the line.

    hi guys!
I just found the specs for the C90S model on a NY reseller's website. It will be using Nvidia Geforce Go 8500 256MB and Geforce Go 8600 512MB(price and specs of the GPU's are not aviable yet). However, the memory is still DDR2-667.
It looks like a sound investment to me.

Well if you're looking to buy it, go for it you can't really go wrong with anything cause its totally upgradeable, its really just a matter of if you like the way it looks.

    everywhere else as said 2GB.

    also,

    Supports:

Intel Conroe / Core 2 Duo Conroe

    E4300 (1.80G) E6300 (1.86G) E6400 (2.13G) E6600 (2.4G)

Thats a barebone without the video card. Not available and NOT shipping as far as i know. Its a preorder. some dealers think that eta from disti or asus is set in stone. nobody learns from their mistakes

yea. sry for the misleading title.thx for pointing that out. But i think it should be fine unless they charge $400+ for the GPU(which is a possiblity...) Assuming the price doesnt change dramatically, It could be congifured under 2k with Core 2 DuoE6600,2G DDR2-667, Geforce Go 8***(assuming its not insanely priced) and fair amount of hard drive space.

Here is my rough estimated by shopping around the internet:

    Core 2 Duo E6600 2.4G 4MB L2--$ 223+shipping at amazon.com
    G.Skill 2x1GB DDR2-667-- $89.99+$4.99 shipping at newegg.com
    Seagate Momentus 80GB 7200 RPM 8MB Cache-- $89.99+$4.99 shipping(newegg)
C90S barebone( $859)+Window Vista Home premium Disk( $139)+802.11n wireless( $40)
    Geforce go 8***-- $300-$400 (anything over 400 sounds like a rip-off)
    Estimated Total: $1750-1850

Please correct me if something is wrong or missing.

well milestone has the c90 with the 8600 for 1050USD so they could only charge 200 for an 8600 to make it viable to get the absolute barebones. But as geared2play said who knows whats actually going to happen-even someone like me who doesn't know the business is surprised by these early appearances.
Anyway, although this looks great I'm definitely would (and am going to) wait for some reviews and benchmarks before diving into this.

Anyone knows where to buy C90 or other barebones from Asus in Europe? Are those computers only for NA? That's crazy, I want to buy, I can't find any reseller to take my money :)

I know I can order from some websites in NA, but for a barebone the warranty is local only, I cannot take this risk. Please someone help me!!! :)

Hey, since the C90S will be featuring Blu-Ray technology in the DVD Drive, would it be a standard option or would it be an upgradeable option? And any ideas the release date for this laptop?

The floor model in fremont at asu leap featured no blue ray however there was some talk about hd-dvd. that would make sense because a few of their laptops already do.

With the 2008 figure for the last GPU, I would not be surprised if it was a Go8900. The thermal capaity of the system should be able to handle it.

With the all the fans on the back, I wouldn't doubt it; but that really depends on the chip itself, and how much heat the Conroe will dump into the C90's system.

Sorry, but I was curious to know if you phrased it right. Thermal capacity is the amount of heat needed to raise the PC by 1 degrees celcius. So don't you mean is the system able to handle the thermal capacity of thermal conductors? Sorry, I dono't mean to offend you, I just thought the line wasn't phrased properly. Correct me if I thought wrong. ;)

And also, what is a Expresscard remote and is that necessary? Is that remote just a ordinary remote to watch videos with play and pause, rewind and all those buttons?

    Thanks a lot

I'm praying that the 8800m gets released soon. Id like to get one of these with one, if its not too hot. My friend has a 17 inch P4 toshiba that overheats like crazy, and its incredibly loud.

There's definitely some confusion/inconsistency on this point. Milestone lists the GFX card as GT, but btotech and GenTech don't list any letters after the 8600. I emailed btotech/geared2play, but I haven't gotten a conclusive answer yet.

It is safe to assume the cheape rof the two. The difference between the two? one with less clock but more processors........I dont think it matters at this point.

I'm looking forward to see more pix of this laptop and a review. I wonder if the 8600 card is available to sell as parts from Asus, that would be cool for many barebone laptops like mine .

I'm going for the C90 with the e6700/100 gb 7200 HD/2g 667, ordered it yesterday. Not that concerned with battery life as it will be plugged into a wall about 90% of the time. I am a little concerned about the heat and noise tho. This thing should really be a beast... I've been waiting for something like this for years.

I apologize if this has been answered already, but why doesn't this laptop appear on any of Asus' sites? I can't find it on the global site, or the U.S. site, or any of the other sites that I browsed through.

Barebone like this comes up with another site of Asus it's like another "brand name" for barebone I don't remember what they call them something like white notebook or something. It's official name is ASmobile.

    Hello guys:

I plan on buying the c90s notebook too when it becomes available, but I am fairly new to all these technical terms and I have a few questions about the c90 notebook.

First of all, what does the VGA port for external display do? does it allow me to connect an external computer monitor to the laptop?

Secondly, what about HDMI? does it allow me to connect an HDTV to the laptop?

Lastly, what is the difference with that and the TV-out (S-video/composite)?

    Thanks :D

VGA is the port in which you plug in your monitor, CRT or LCD, usually the blue colored end.

HMI is another video output port, and yes you can connect HDTVs to your lapotp and playback HD quality movies and etc.

S-video is one of the oldest video output technology, most people don't use this because they have newer TVs. I personaly have two TVs that I use S-Video and watch movies and play games on for testing purposes, mainly because my TV is quite old.

When comparing these 3 types, you will want to use the lastest HDMI if you can, sure the wires cost quite a bit, but the video quality will be noticeable.

I'm not sure what MCX is, but there you go.
