Pretty impressed so far with my new 121B, having upgraded it to 4GB ram already, and having deleted all the bloat-ware LOL.
Can't seem to change the windows logon screen though.
I've used Stardock LogonStudio on many machines including my Asus G73, but the welcome screen refuses to change on this 1215B.
Any ideas?

Anyone know any monitoring programs for temps and voltages for the 1215B? I did a clean install and I want to do some testing with battery life. I got some A-data XPG DDR3L RAM and I want to see if it's supported at 1.35 volts like the Zacate should be capable of or if it runs at legacy values of 1.5 volts. I also have a Samsung 470 SSD but I shipped that to my dorm by accident..... So the battery life from that part won't be tested until late July.
Also I believe they fixed the touchpad in the most recent shipments. I bought mine last week from Newegg and no problems after 5 hours and multitouch works great. I'll update if it freaks out. -
Does anyone know how to get the wireless button to work after a clean install?
Installed the DDR3L RAM as well, Windows reports an extra 40 minutes of battery life but that's about as reliable as WEI. If anyone knows a testing program, I can try it. -
I'm thinking of getting this machine, and am wondering a couple of things. I'm not familiar with how powerful this processor is, but how would it compare to the core 2 duo t7200 I am using right now in my dell m1210?
Also, have people been able to clean install windows on this without issues? (I will need to do this as I will be buying in Japanese with a Japanese OS).
I mainly want this for the size/weight and USB 3.0.
I want to be able to use it with Ableton live, and maybe a bit of photoshop.
I don't need it for gaming etc..
Do you think it is powerful enough for my needs?
Thanks! -

Yes for the button you need the ATK drivers which has the atk hotkey utility that controls the hotkeys. For the wireless hotkey you also should have wireless console 3 installed.
-
What are exactly ATK drivers and where would they be filed under? For the 1215B I don't see a driver named so under utilities or wireless for them.
-
ALLurGroceries Vegan Vermin Super Moderator
On the 1015B page there is an ATK section which contains the keyboard filter driver and utility.
For the 1215B there is an updated keyboard filter utility under the Utilities section.
I guess there is no wireless console utility for this Eee, unless they forgot to list it on the downloads section. You may only need the ATK keyboard driver and utility in that case. -
EchoShade, how is your touchpad holding up? Any problems with it yet?
I sent back my first 1215b because of the horrible touchpad, screen problems, crooked Ethrnet port and warped bottom. The second one I got (around Memorial Day), the touchpad worked fine but the keyboard was so mushy and flexed that I felt I was typing on a mini trampoline. Also, the keys were "floating" above the base of the keyboard so that I looked underneath them when sitting in front of the netbook. Sent the second one back also.
I am waiting for issues to be fixed (hopefully) before ordering another. How is your keyboard, flexing or OK? Does everything else seem solid and work OK? Has anyone gotten another color, silver or red? I wonder if they have corrected the problems before sending out the newer colors. -
I have no problems with the touchpad at all so far. I did a clean install though so that might be why. Still has keyboard flex but has that nice click with the keys so I don't feel the flex as much but it's still visually noticeable.
The keys still float. I'm going to crack this open in about a month and check the physical connection of the touchpad to see if they did the fix or not. I bought mine when they came back in stock on Newegg on 5/27. -
On the Asus 1215B:
How does the battery do for everyone, does it last 8 hours like Asus says? Has anyone squeezed more life out of it? I'm thinking about getting two of these in the future, one for me one for my wife. If I do, I'll use mine as a guinea pig to squeeze the most battery life out of it. I would probably re-paste, maybe buy a cooling pad and maybe mess around with undervolting if that's even possible on brazos.
Also, has anyone installed Adobe Creative Suite or Unreal Developer's Kit or 3DS Max on the 1215B? How do they perform? Getting kinda tired of lugging my 15 lbs of computer weight to school 3 days a week... -
Undervolting the E-350, 2 sticks of RAM, APU re-paste with IC Diamond, and 64 GB Samsung 470 for lowest SSD idle power consumption with RAMDisk for temp files to prevent SSD usage.
Max temp at 65C and usually around 50C with no cooling pad necessary.
Highest I've gotten the Win7 battery estimate is 9Hr.40Min. idling with Wifi off and lowest brightness. Usually get around 7-8 hours doing light internet browsing. -
To those with the 1215B, how durable is it? I know I like this sort of size of notebook since I got to try out a HP dm1z a while back, but it was quite easy to cause distortions on the dm1z's screen by pressing on the lid. That's a concern to me, since there will be only a thin layer of padding between this and my law textbooks in my bag. Is the 1215B any better?
I'm especially concerned since I lost a previous notebook to a cracked LCD panel (despite the casing being completely intact) a few years back. -
Well the bottom keyboard half is pretty solid. Still wouldn't stack books on it. You can cause flex behind the screen by using about 3 pounds of pressure.
-
-
As a side note, those 3lbs causing flex was in the center of the lid. The sides should be able to handle some decent force.
If you're interested in the Brazos platform then here's a list of ultraportables to look for. I'm only listing dual cores since I think the single core is pretty weak.
Asus 1215B 12.1"
Asus 1015B 10.1"
Acer AO522 10.1"
Acer A0722 10.1"
MSI Wind U270 12.1"
MSI X370 13.4"
Lenovo x120e 11.6"
Lenovo S205 11.6"
HP dm1z 11.6"
There's probably more like one from Sony that's hard to find now as well as a 14" Toshiba. For durability, you might want to look into the Lenovos.
As another side note, my touchpad's acting up after 2 months of use. Time to open the palm rest and apply the fix. -
I just bought the 1215b MU-17 in Bangkok, Thailand.
The specs are a little different here than in the US.
-320G 5400 hd
-2G DDR ram
-USB 3.0
I was undecided about this machine, or the 1015b. The 1015b and this version of the 1215b are the same inside (C-50 CPU etc). The deciding factor was this machine also has USB 3.0 and the bump in resolution with the 1215b.
The machine comes with no OS. But I already had a copy of windows 7 ultimate. A disk with all the drivers came with it too.
I paid 10,000B. Or $330. One year international warranty.
This a popular machine here. They are everywhere in the malls and IT stores (MBK, Pantip ect.)
I'm going to upgrade the ram tomorrow to 4gigs. -
Going to order the 1215B in Denmark today.
specs here are:
500 GB 5400rpm
4GB DDR3 1066MHz
1x USB3
Price: 630$
One thing I don't get is, if it really only has a 10/100 Mbit lan?? No 1Gbit? Can anyone confirm this please? -
No it doesn't have GB lan. 10/100 only. My suggestion to you is that if you need added speed, look into replacing the wifi card with one of Bigfoot's new Killer N half pci express cards. You'll get really great speed over wireless if it's paired to a good wireless N router.
Here's a link to a good replacement wifi card: Bigfoot networks Killer Wireless-N 1102 | eBay
the link is to eBay so it will expire eventually. Just go to eBay and search for Bigfoot Killer Wireless-N 1102
Here's a few routers to match:
Amazon.com: Cisco-Linksys E4200 Maximum Performance Simultaneous Dual-Band Wireless-N Router: Electronics
Amazon.com: ASUS Black Diamond Dual Band Processor, Hardware NAT, 5 Internal Antennas, Fast Gigabit Ethernet and 128MB DDR2 Wireless Router (RT-N56U): Electronics
NETGEAR - N750 Dual Band Wireless-N+ Gigabit Router with USB Port - WNDR4000-100NAS
sorry about that last link, it wasn't very Denmark friendly. I hope it points you in the right direction.
Of course, all that depends on if you have the money $$$$ -
Hey,
could anyone upload a copy of the recovery partition? I know its 16GB but actually there are a lot of people (like me) who deleted their recovery partition and didnt make an image.
Be glad if anyone could help...
peace

PS: For the 1215B -
Thanks alot. I had not thought about that option -
Just got 1015b with C50 and 2gb ram. Want to upgrade to 4gb and install win 7 x64. But seems like there are no drivers for x64 on the asus support page. Does anyone know where I can find those drivers? Thanks in advance!
-
A fresh install will probably have all the drivers you could need with maybe the exception of the latest catalyst driver. But Windows will still probably find what you need through Windows update after you install.
Are you sure you want to step it up to home premium? That laptop barely meets the minimum requirements as it is. -
So, you think I shouldn't worry beforehand and just try to install... Well, I'll try.
Re: the upgrade, all I can say is, this laptop is much faster than my old 1005HA (with atom 270 and 2gb ram) and I've got win 7 ultimate on it. It has been running quite decently for my day to day work. 1015b is an upgrade but I want to make the most out of it by upgrading the ram (I like to use ram disks for my portable firefox and temp files, etc.) -
We're thinking of buying the Asus 1015b AMD c30. How is it for connecting to a TV and streaming Hulu and Netflix? I've read some things about it having problems streaming high-def -- does that mean it won't play those things well at all, or that it will just play them in lower def?
Edit: Well, we just ordered it, hope it does what we want, lol. -
We need to revive this thread. I will start with the overclocking of the CPU using the asus super hybrid engine.
Put it in high performance mode and the FSB will increase to 105MHz, giving a CPU speed of 1055Mhz -
What can be done about this track pad? It does not work well at all!
-
@pawheel
u upgraded 1015b to 4gb? which module u have used?
anyone has the problem with white 1015b - the display can be see through the backpanel on some points... this problem is only visable when all is dark around -

Any idea when the 1215B with the new E450 processors will be out? Any idea about the pricing? All the vendors seem to only have the E300 version. The new HP DM1Z came out and I'm considering either that or this laptop. Thanks.
-
I've tried searching, but it's a bit hard to narrow down....
I've had an 1000HE model for nearly 3 years now and I absolutely love it. I have an Alienware m11x that I use for high-end stuff and gaming, but I like my EEEPC for movie-watching and general use. I'm looking into a new EEEPC, but I'd really love to keep using Windows XP....are there drivers for the new models that will allow me to use XP? Thanks. -
Hi!
I've bought a 1015BX which comes with a C-50. On the website it says the memory limit is 2GB, but i've seen that the Acer Aspire 522 has the same components and it works with 4GB.
Will my 1015BX work with 4GB? -
Yes, it will work with 4GB.

Just bought a 1215B with E-350 for $300... Woot!

Has anyone replaced their hard drive? I did and in the process broke a couple tabs off the palmrest in the upper left corner, so it's loose. What did people use, if at all, to fix this? Those clips are so small, thin, and wimpy, it's no doubt you'd break those tabs.
-
Also, I'm having video skipping and audio lag playing back 1080p mkv files. This is using media player classic output via hdmi to a 46" LCD, any tips or suggestions? -
One thing I found with my M11x is using a single RAM chip, as opposed to two, added a measurable amount of battery life to the laptop. I am running two 2GB chips right now and may throw in a single 4GB chip and see if battery life improves at all. It won't be huge, but since the machine already only runs single channel, and it sips power to begin with, you might end up with an extra 30 minutes or so of battery life.
I would use something like BatteryBar or BatteryCare to estimate battery life, and do one full discharge for best results and future measurements.
I use K10stat to undervolt and here's my profile:
-
Also, I fixed the skipping in the 1080p mkv files in mpc, now just have to figure out how to fix the Netflix HD skipping. -
Hello I just bought an EEE pc 1015b and I wanted to install win7 ultimate x64 on it, but when I tried to install on any of the partitions it said that windows could only be installed on GPT partitioned harddrives and that the partitions were MBR, then I just deleted the windows hard drive partition cause I thought that would fix the problem and it would let me make a new partition, but now it won't let me make a new partition, the harddrive doesn't show up when I restart the windows installation(it just says missing driver?)!
I tried using the recovery tool but that didn't work and instead when I reboot the netbook it just says MBR missing please insert boot media or restart....
Can anyone help me?!
edit: nvm found a program that could let me fix the partition mess in dos and was able to install win 7 x64 -
tried to install 8GB RAM (2 pieces) from my previous laptop and it works.
anybody could give me explanation how to overclocking this asus 1215B?
thanks. -
Hello everybody. Just bought my 1215b with e450 and installed win7 x64. Which hdd partitions should I keep and which delete? and anybody knows where can I download keyboard fn dirvers? volume and other keys dont work with the driver Ive installed. Im going to buy 2gb ram extra this week, is there any real difference upgrading 2 to 4 gb?
thnks guys -
Can anyone tell me how compatible the 1215B_MU17 might be with two 4GB DIMMs? It's going to be a gift, and I just found a killer deal on 4GB DIMMs, and I thought I'd make my mother in law extra happy
If it works, how picky is it? The memory is G.Skill, standard DDR3 SO-DIMM. -
ChairmanNow have tried installing 2x4GB on 1215B_MU17. Does it work? Please let us know!

Good day. I am new to this site. I never thought of joining this site until my beloved asus 1215b shows something unusual. It's an 11 month netbook and i started to see a problem earlier on October. I see some white blinking horizontal line at the top edge of the screen. It's annoying to see and it worries me at the same time and it doesn't stopped there. Before, it only occurs at the topmost part of the screen but now there's also at the middle part. What i do is i put my netbook to sleep mode and then after a while switch it on again and that annoying line will go away. you can check this video to see the problem that i'm saying. Zippyshare.com - M2U00985.MPG It seldom happens but it really worries me. Can somebody help me with this? What causes this problem? I just hope this is only a software issue. I though that this could be the only problem but about last month i noticed a new problem with my netbook and this time when i try to open my netbook, It only stays at the Asus boot screen and it doesn't do anything. you need to long press the power to turn it off. But after after a couple of tries it will boot again normally. Just like my first problem it rarely happens but still it's still bothers me.
-
Have you updated video drivers?
-
Yup. All my drivers are up to date.
But its been months since i updated my video driver and the problem is just recently. And what about my other concern about not booting on startup, is it a separate problem. Are these 2 problems connected? -
i reformatted my 1215b using my recovery and i hope the problem will be gone. People here seems so busy.
